My first entry into Kesek was by horse and carriage. And through the curtains of those carriage windows, I spied a sea of gazes all focused my way. Hope. Gratitude. Worship. Every one of them, genuinely happy to see me. It warmed my heart, but at the same time, it weighed heavily on me.

What I was about to do was tantamount to treason – to fight against the devils as a devil…

Even so, while these corrupted nobles were deserving of the doom that awaited them, what about these innocent people?

Saving all the innocents was most likely impossible. I did not have that kind of power. But I could at least save the race I used to belong to.

The province of Kesek used to be the property of the noble family of Abbott. It was said that this family was a staunch supporter of the Andassean royal family, or at least the previous head was.

Unfortunately, the previous head was murdered by his own younger brother, aided by the Ertalonese kingdom. Then by purging the entire estate, he successfully took control of the family.

The bloody massacre only took a scant two hours. Those close to the previous head were murdered before they even knew what was happening.

All that was information I learnt from the old majordomo of the estates, Adam.

It all clicked at that moment. An entire uprising in a region was rare. A monarch had to be immeasurably cruel in order to spur such drastic action. But if the heads were secretly replaced with traitors, it all made sense.

There was no shortage of such craven traitors. Ones lacking in competence, but brimming with ambition and dissatisfaction for their current state.

Old Adam was a man closing in on his fifties. In the estate, he wasn’t a power player, but with decades of running the estate well, he was a talent in his own right. Thus the traitors kept him around as well.

Upon learning of what befell the previous head, I next set my attention towards the location of the traitors. Old Adam told me respectfully that they had fled upon learning of the failed invasion, along with most of their kin. In all likelihood, they sought shelter in Ertalon.

So that’s why the estate looks like a dog’s bowl after the dog was done licking it…

I asked Old Adam why he did not leave with them, to which he simply replied that this was his hometown. However, I could see the guilt in his eyes, most likely towards the previous head. But I understood he had no choice in this matter. At his age, he had a family to look after, and if he did not surrender, all of them would have been in trouble.

Regardless, I was a permanent resident of the manor, and Old Adam was still the majordomo.

After countless upheaval, the government of the province was in complete paralysis. Without a leader, the masses were no better than blind mice; chaos was only inevitable. Thus I knew that restoring order was imperative in ensuring that this province could function.

And that was where Old Adam, with his decades of experience, came in handy once more. Upon learning of my concerns, he quickly introduced some talents in the field of governance. Which in a medieval world like this, basically meant the gentry. Education was something only reserved for those with power. For the common folk with talent, magic and aura were their go-to. And even amongst the noble, only those without a talent for either of those disciplines would specialize in governance. Maybe the odd scholar or two.

As the majordomo of the ruling family, it was no surprise at all that he would know so many nobles. And I couldn’t care less what the old butler had in mind when he recommended them either; I accepted those who were willing to be interviewed. After verifying their character, with the help of Ferti’nier, I sent them to work officially.

Before my arrival, panic amongst the populace was a looming crisis. With every passing day, the problem only grew worse, as news of the defeated army closed in on them like vice. Along with rumors of nobles organizing raids of their own, posing as those defeated soldiers.

It did not help that the same populace had just gone through two regime changes in a short time; from Andassean to Ertalonese, then back to Andassean. All within a month.

But all that changed with my arrival. Unlike the nobles, I had protected the common men multiple times by slaughtering those corrupted scum. To the nobles, I might be a callous harlot, but to the common men, I was a savior. Thus did they come out in droves to welcome me with open arms and hopeful tears in their eyes.

Looking at them, I couldn’t help but remember my parents in this world, Morran and Rhona; they were killed by soldiers hired by those self-same nobles. At least back then, they had the common decency to dress up as bandits. Now they just killed everyone.

But unlike the small village I grew up in, Kesek was massive, coming in at 180,000 square kilometers. It was a medium-sized fiefdom, closing in on a large one.

Yet, even with all that land, the population of Kesek was merely three million plus. How many citizens did a random metropolis on Gaia have? Probably more. And in a space that was just 18,000 square kilometers.

Perhaps they just couldn’t produce enough to support a larger population in Kesek, or perhaps their death rate was just too high.

I was once a commoner like them, so I knew how the nobles viewed them. Dogs, if they were being kind. No less than dogs, in all likelihood.

Ever since I defeated those three overlords, I was awarded the title of “Crimson Dragon Lady” by Andassis the Seventh.

Titles were a privilege afforded only to those who were as powerful as an overlord. Meaning… Regardless of what my actual star level was, I was now a member of that elite club, a person that could take on three overlords alone.

Not long after the three Ertalonese overlords were slain, General Cleoz announced the news. Without much fanfare, I might add. Not that it was needed, the Ertalonese army immediately fell apart when they learnt of that fact.

Of the five overlords that came to invade, there were only two left. One was the general leading the entire army, while the other was the hierophant who used that forbidden spell on the fort. That same spell was the very reason he was now out of action, seeing as the spell itself was woven with his own Territory.

All in all, the Ertalonese army had no way of resisting our forces any longer.

With no other options left to him, the enemy general, General Moniz, started planning for a full retreat.

Being a veteran general himself, Cleoz knew what his counterpart was planning even without checking. On the night of the victory itself, he invited me for a little discussion. He wanted me to join the pursuit and deal the enemy a decisive blow with my magitek knights.

I did not like the man. That much was certain from my first meeting with him. But for the greater good, I dutifully accepted the order to lead the Magitek Knight Corp.

This time, Cleoz took the lead himself. And in one fell swoop, crushed the coalition army of Ertalon and those rebellious northern nobles who joined the enemy. It was surreal for an Earthling like me… that was 400,000 soldiers!

Next up was to reclaim our lost territory.

Honestly, such a rousing victory wasn’t even imaginable for the soldiers just days ago. They had their backs against the literal fort walls, with only a bunch of new knights to aid them. How ridiculous the situation must have sounded to them, and probably to the history books in the future…

Apparently, the King himself held a banquet that night to celebrate our victory.

And those despicable nobles who were clamoring for their kids to be returned… They immediately jumped on the news like ravenous sharks, vying for rewards that they truly had no part in.

However, those were all small details. Andassis the Seventh gave his tacit agreement to their behavior as well. To begin with, if the entire north rebelled, that meant there were huge swathes of land to be given out. Naturally, he could have just consolidated it all into the royal family’s estate, but in a feudal system like his, he had to divvy up the spoils to his subjects.

But… all that wasn’t my problem. This kingdom did not even belong to me, and I had no intention of caring either.

The final battle of our pursuit ended in a one-on-one battle between the two generals. General Moniz was heavily wounded and had to be evacuated by his troops. Even now, we did not know if he survived with those injuries.

The other overlord, the hierophant, had fled long ago. The remaining troops were crushed by our army…

It was a rousing victory, but for the peasantry of the north, this was a nightmare. The scattered enemy troops were easy targets for our soldiers, but not for the peasants. However, these defeated soldiers weren’t the only plague upon the north. Some devious nobles even had the gall to fake bandit attacks in order to claim credit for themselves.

Once more, the pure evil of these people astonished me.

By putting an end to some of these attacks, I now had the dubious honor of simultaneously being the most welcome person and the least welcome person amongst the nobles.

In order to placate some of these furious nobles, Andassis the Seventh finally had to step in himself, issuing a transfer order, politely sending me off to the territory he gave me. In other words, the northern region of Kesek.

At this point, the defeated army hadn’t extended its tendrils into Kesek yet. Given how close Kesek was to the borders, even these soldiers weren’t able to progress that far. Another three to five days were needed.

But that did not mean the Kesek peasantry were living free of worry either. Every day was spent in fear of the inevitable – that a bunch of ragtag soldiers, dressed in ragged armor and wielding broken swords, would just turn up on their doorsteps to pillage their village. Days felt like years for them. When we first arrived, the despair hanging in the air was palpable for all to see. But only for a while longer…

On the night of my arrival, along with the Magitek Knight Corp, a wave of hope washed over the ailing populace, like the break of dawn on the cold, dark winter night.

In the first place, the traitors were the lords of these regions, not the peasantry. They were merely trying to live their daily lives unbothered. Now, in just the span of a few days, their communities had been upended by the arrival of nearly 200,000 refugees from the neighboring lands who had been pillaged, with no signs of abatement.

Naturally, Kesek wasn’t the only region affected by refugees. When the defeated soldiers came knocking on your doorstep, there wasn’t time to be picking and choosing your safe haven. You just threw on your shoes and ran…

To where? God knows.

The rest were either killed by the pillaging soldiers of the defeated army, or killed by the pillaging soldiers of the army pretending to be the defeated army… Not that those who fled were any better. All that awaited them was a life of hardship, and scraps to show for it.

Truly, the definition of a rock and a hard place.

Thus did my arrival seem like a turning point for the region. The fame of my knight order had spread far and wide, even to this remote region. Realizing that my arrival was brought forward, there was no short of fanfare at the news…

The scene of thousands queuing up just to welcome us was a truly sight to behold…

The hellhounds of Mo Ke’s Trails were numerous in numbers, and with their fierce, combative culture, became one of the main forces of the city. Being the leader of these forces, Violet Snow was, without a doubt, a major figurehead at this roundtable.

The silver-furred demonic werewolf Habona was another roundtable member. Unlike normal werewolves, however, a demonic werewolf wasn’t able to transform into a human, because of their furious nature. This had the unfortunate effect of most of them having terrible disposition most of the time. They weren’t in a frenzied state, but they would often be found taking offense easily, starting fights at the drop of a hat. Natural-born berserkers, if there were any. But Habona was a different story. She had immense control over her emotions, and with her impressive might, became one of the most powerful military leaders of Mo Ke’s Trails. Under her command were demonic werewolves, lizardman, medusas, demonic half-orcs, and a host of other non-devil clans. Naturally, they were one of the main forces of the city as well.

In the first place, devils weren’t the only ones residing in the Hells, though the humans tended to lump everyone into the same category regardless.

Abaddon was a complex biosystem. Countless clans all resided in this region, everyone an actor in this bloody play of the strong preying on the weak.

Habona was the undisputed strongest of the city. Had it not been for Numila’s Flametail, an epic-grade weapon, she would win a hundred percent of the time in a deathmatch against Numila.

Evilin, an evil eye who once enslaved countless Abaddon ratmen in the Prison of the Dead, but was later subdued by Mo Ke, now floated quietly above the roundtable. Beneath its meaty sphere of a body, dangled appendages that resembled a jellyfish. From each of them, one could sense powerful psychic emanations.

Even as he took part in this important meeting, it never once stopped in its daily work. And as the number one psychic expert of the city, there was plenty for it to do that was both precise and complex in nature.

Ever since Evilin signed that slave pact with Mo Ke, it had been faithfully serving Numila due to her engagement pact with Mo Ke.

It was one of the founders of the city, and was a critical contributor in the initial stages of this city. Had it not been for its psychic talents, Mo Ke’s Trails might not even exist today.

Then, there was Julia, a mature lust demon, the grandmother of Mimiya, and wife of Mo En, an apostle of Sloth. Because she once learnt the art of Dark Alchemy under Mo Ke, she had the ability to craft equipment, and was now the head for armaments in the city.

Julia had nothing but the utmost respect for Mo Ke. From the first glance, she could tell that he was a devil with the literal devil’s luck. Thus, she took the bold step of bringing her entire faction under his fold. Thanks to her and her lust demon alchemists, their forces had a much smoother start-up due to their bone weapons. Just like Evilin, her loyalty to Mo Ke meant that she was a staunch supporter of Numila as well.

As for Numila herself, her engagement pact with Mo Ke naturally elevated her position, allowing her to be the undisputed leader of the city and the head of this roundtable. She ruled over the harpies and the other devils who were blessed with an Original Sin.

At this point, the only faction that could stand up to Numila’s own was that of Habona’s. However, Habona wasn’t too keen on politics, focusing instead on warfare.

Within the city, Numila was the queen.

There was once an overlord who tried to cause trouble in the city, but he was swiftly sent packing with the combined efforts of Numila and Habona.

From that moment on, the neighboring factions knew not to mess with this city. For despite their lack of an overlord, they weren’t pushovers either.

Tapping on the stony roundtable before her, Numila drew the attention of the attendees to her before starting in a deep voice. “I’ve summoned everyone here today for a matter of grave importance. A messenger from the Devil King of Pride just left, but he left behind a troubling message… The Apocalypse in the Western Human Realms is about to start… and we are not exempt.”

———Paliseth————

Matriarch Paliseth’s days hadn’t been the best since receiving that divine revelation from Lolthe a mere three days ago. The Apocalypse was about to begin, and she was commanded by the Spider Queen Herself to join forces with the devils in slaughtering the humans, and every other lifeform in the realm.

Clearly, the Spider Queen was siding with a certain evil god. In fact, She was practically His adoring fan.

Dressed in the most revealing dark elven dress possible, Paliseth quietly sat atop her throne. Beneath was the heroic Zurnalin, giving her report of the army in a half-kneeling position.

Not at all listening, she quickly sent away Zurnalin. Suddenly, she turned to her attendant and asked, “that girl, Aishael, still isn’t willing to come over for a visit?”

Flustered, the female attendant was at a loss for words as to how to answer that question. One wrong word and she could end up being marked by the Matriarch.

However, she never had to reply as Paliseth soon sighed heavily. “That child has grown some wings, I see… Does she think she can do as she pleases, holing up in that city of hers all day, just because she has the backing of His Holiness? Maybe I’ve just been too kind of late…”

“…” The female attendant fell to her knees in sheer terror, head lowered and trembling visibly.

Reason wasn’t always the strong suite of the Dark Elves, anger especially. And the fastest way to relieve said anger was to take it out on someone.

“And what are you so afraid of?” Still seated comfortably in her throne, Paliseth seemed to have noticed the trembling as well, and a strange fascination soon arose in her.

“I…”

She tried to come up with a response, but no words were forthcoming. Traumatic images of her predecessor still haunted her, and her trembling only worsened.

“How unsightly.”

The attendant probably thought she was being reprimanded, but only Paliseth herself knew that she was referring to herself instead.

“Stand up. Bring Jez here, I wish to have a talk with her…” she commanded slowly, right hand stroking her jowls lazily. As she looked up into the endless abyss of the ceiling, she muttered to herself, “I wonder how long has it been since our Jez has seen her handsome father… Perhaps it’s finally time. After all, a vow of marriage is not so easily forgotten. Time to show myself as well, I wonder how long it has been.”

Hearing those words, the attendant leapt to her, practically scrambling to carry out this order and escape while she could. “I will do so right away, Matriarch.”

Looking at that fleeing attendant, Paliseth was suddenly struck with an unknown sensation.

Even with her lofty position, she was still just one of the matriarchs of the Dark Elves. There was someone above her.

“Am I really that terrifying? Compared to His Holiness who had an entire clan wiped out with a sentence?”

However, her words merely echoed in her cavernous but empty hall…

The Demoness Abode, since its inception, had always been the best refuge for orphans and women in distress. Over the years, Ancarin and Regine were unceasing in their grooming of these future faithful.

Those who came to the Demoness Abode were all desperate women and children. Every so often, Regine would patrol the nearby human cities, recruiting fresh blood for the Abode, and also cleaning the streets of people who did not sit right with her.

While her actions might not seem like the actions of a demoness, and more like a wandering heroine, her intentions were to recruit more faithful for Mo Ke.

Mo Ke was a devil with three Original Sins, and was even blessed with the bloodline of Lucifer. Even if he might not be aware of this yet, his noble bloodline had afforded him some degree of divinity, like being able to bestow his grace upon his faithful.

Naturally, such mundane matters had always been handled by the freeloader in Mo Ke’s body, Ferti’nier. In truth, Mo Ke did not even know how strong his bestowed grace actually was. He merely knew that, under certain circumstances, those who believed in him were afforded power… and that was it.

The reason for the Abode’s existence was to recruit and groom new demonesses who worshiped Mo Ke, and were willing to offer up their lives and soul for him. Thanks to that, most of its inhabitants had been blessed with power.

For the vast majority of deities, the power they bestow followed a theme that had to do with the domain they governed. The Goddess of Life would bestow healing powers onto her faithful, so on and so forth.

However, Mo Ke was different in that he had three Original Sins on him. His innate ability, Consciousness Impartment, could be said to be the closest ability to the primal source of the world. Thanks to that, the powers the inhabitants of the Abode received were varied. Basically every ability under the sun, barring Light-related ones, and the truly obscure ones. Dimensional abilities were manifested; elemental abilities, even psychic ones.

The Abode had been slowly expanding in its native region, and with the power it held, became a faction in its own right, not yet major, but not minor either.

Thanks to how discrete the Abode’s operations had been, the major factions within Tarnia had only managed to glean the most basic of information on the Abode. They had tried multiple times to rectify this lack of information, but each time, they were the ones who had suffered losses instead. After all, the core of the Abode were females, meaning the spies that could be sent were only females. However, these spies would eventually become brainwashed, leading to a change in allegiances.

While Ferti’nier was still a body-less soul, she was no pushover either. Putting aside her inordinately long life, she herself had managed to dissect the laws of the world on Gaia. Her abilities weren’t something that these mortals could ever hope to comprehend.

For the most part, the Abode had laid low. There weren’t any large actions by them, so rather than being an upcoming major power, they were more like hermits.

With time, most people lost interest in this mysterious faction. Other than the odd noble fool who heard rumors of how many beautiful women there were in the Abode, but they were prone to mysterious disappearances. Given that these were fools to begin with, not much fuss was kicked up after their disappearances either..

Yet not all was rainbows and sunshine for the Abode. There existed a weak link in this chain of solidarity. And its name was Ann. The same little girl who Mo Ke rescued during his last trip to the Western Human Realms. The sole survivor he and Nicole rescued from that doomed village.

The unfortunate truth was that the girl he rescued had already been possessed by that evil witch, having sensed her own demise some time in advance. She split her soul in two, hiding one half in Ann’s body.

Ever since assuming control of little Ann, she had kept quiet, all because of that single knowing look that Ferti’nier gave her when she was in charge of Mo Ke’s body.

Two years of laying low. Two years spent currying favor with Regine and Ancarin. Two years spent befriending little Nari and Hayley. As proof of her efforts, her status within the Abode was quite substantial, despite her young age. Those two little scamps were basically the equivalent of the crown prince in the Abode, thus her identity as their playmates had some spillover effects as well.

Mo Ke hadn’t shown himself in the past two years. Neither Ancarin nor Regine had received a single message from him, as if he had completely vanished from the face of this world.

Under such circumstances, little Ann started to act up. She was planning to cause a stir, and a big one at that!

Taking out the communication crystal she kept hidden in her room, her lips parted into a devious grin, completely at odds with her child-like appearance. “Let’s see if you have really disappeared…”

—City of Mo Ke’s Trail—

Ever since that fateful separation with Mo Ke, the ragtag band of devils he led through the Prison of the Dead had banded together in the mysterious Abaddon, founding a city known as Mo Ke’s Trail.

Their main objective, as the name would suggest, was to find Mo Ke. He was the string tying these disparate clans together, so searching for him was of the utmost importance.

Right now, the head of the three harpy witches, Numila Blaze was chairing a meeting within the city. At attendance were her two sisters, Elena Frost and Eugenia Tempest. Not only that, the other heads of the city were present as well. Like the stern-but-absolutely-not-threatening Violet Snow, who still had the body of a tiny newborn puppy, and thus could only sit atop the stone roundtable, lest she was ignored due to being too small.

She was a mixed-blood, born of both the Gehenna Ice Wolves and the Hellhounds clan. With an innately strong talent in Ice magicks, plus the recognition of the Hellhound clan, she was the alpha wolf of the hellhounds within the city… perhaps, alpha puppy would have been more accurate.

The first year of our glorious cult. The Goddess Ke Ke Cult was founded by the five great cardinals. The head cardinal, the esteemed First Cardinal Duanmu Xinqing. The second cardinal, Second Cardinal Qiaoqiao. The third cardinal, Third Cardinal Duanmu Bitong. The fourth cardinal, Fourth Cardinal Youqin Lixiang. And the last and youngest cardinal, Fifth Cardinal Qiao Jiaojiao.

The hierarchy of the cult was simple. The five cardinals managed the entirety of the cult. Below that were the cities that had at least a single cathedral dedicated to the Goddess. The ones in charge of these cathedrals were the bishops, and beneath them were the executives, the lowest managerial rank in the cult, and in charge of the daily work that went into running a cult.

Beneath the executives were the attendants -basically the priests in a fantasy world church. The daily sermons were handled by these attendants. They are the initiate tier of the Goddess Ke Ke Cult.

Beneath them are the faithful, though everyone in the cult is a faithful, even the cardinals. Yet even the faithful have their own rankings. There were those known commonly as the fanatics, these were the faithful who had chosen to devote their entire life to the Goddess.

Amongst the fanatics, the rate of awakening is the highest. Those who awaken an ability through their faith were known as the Divine Awakened.

—- The History of the Cult of Goddess Ke Ke.

“Ahh… this new game is done as well.” Jeerah reached out and grabbed the juice, then in her velvety voice, muttered in a low whisper that was clearly meant for those present to hear. “So boring… if only there was a man nearby to entertain me…”

“…”

“Borriinggg. You can at least play along, I might just say yes, you know.” Jeerah winked at her dead-eyed slave, to no avail.

“I’m sorry, but I do not wish to be whipped for three days and three nights… besides…” At that point, his fish eyes suddenly turned alive as he pointed fervently at the anime girl on his T-shirt. “My mind and body have already been promised to the Goddess. No matter how you may tempt me, I will never betray the Goddess! My life and my purity are Hers alone!”

“…” Jeerah was left speechless. Whenever the topic turned to Mo Ke, Shentu Buping turned unusually animated.

“Master, you should convert to serving the Goddess as well!”

“No.” Jeerah rolled her eyes at the blatant evangelizing. “It’s not like my master lacks supplicants, you guys can go on believing in whomever you wish.”

“Speaking of masters… Master, I was truly surprised when I learned that you were a servant of the Goddess herself.” Buping grinned from ear to ear. “I could barely sleep for a few days from the sheer excitement.”

“Oh? And?” Jeerah raised an eyebrow at the man who seemed to be insinuating something.

However, Buping didn’t say a word, merely staring at her flawless feet with a burning passion.

If there was ever a way to make disgust manifest, this would be it. His gaze alone gave Jeerah the goosebumps. She hurriedly hid her feet, straightened her posture, and with a flick of her wrist, pulled a blanket out of thin air, which she swiftly wrapped her feet in. It was only after she was certain not a single inch of white skin was exposed that she returned to glaring at Buping.

Even for a lust demon, the look he gave her was just too much. It wasn’t like she was a low level lust demon who had to rely on her body to find protection. In fact, she was planning to guard her purity for long as needed.

Displeased with her servant’s traitorous display, her voice turned sharp. “What do you think you’re doing? Using that disgusting look on me.”

Unbeknownst to Jeerah, Shentu Buping was now in the midst of his own fanatic mode. “Master, have you ever been stepped on by the Goddess?”

“Huh?! What does that even mean? Why must I be stepped on by my master?!”

Jeerah practically exploded when she heard that question. Only the most cruel of torture methods ran through her head right now, as she swore to keep Buping alive throughout, just so she could torment him further.

However, that was only the beginning. He stared wistfully at the ceiling, as if he could see through the ceiling to the stars above.

“If you, master, as the servant of the Goddess have been blessed by her stomp, then wouldn’t I have been stomped on by her, if I were to be stomped by you, master.”

“…”

“Master?”

“Kill yourself!” She slapped him.

“Oooo… maybe the Goddess has even slapped you before… no response is an affirmative… Perfect, just great! So I’m one of the lucky ones to have been graced by her touch… I… I can die satisfied now…”

After that inane rant, Buping thumped his chest and yelled at the top of his lungs in the most disgusting way possible, face flushed like a tomato.

“A discount on Floorboard Simulator? Absurd! I’m in!” By now, Jeerah was completely ignoring the masochistic little Bupig. Opening up a holographic shopping site, she began happily browsing.

It was only an hour later that Jeerah finally came back to her senses. By then, she had 23 games stacked in her stacking cart, all of them the expensive kind.

Shentu Buping came back to his senses at the same time. He peeked over her shoulder to have a look himself, just in time to see the total bill on her cart.

He immediately yelled, but in horror. Like his mother and father had just died. “My money! That was the donation money I was preparing to offer to the cult… Master, how could you be so cruel… My faith…”

“Hmph. That donation money is just something your cult uses to fool mortals. As if you can serve your gods by offering money… Hah.” She snorted derisively. “Just take it as payment for the slap.”

“So, master, you were slapped by the Goddess in the past?”

“Nope.”

“Master, how could you lie to me…”

“You’re the one that wanted to be slapped. Now, don’t ever make such a disgusting request ever again.”

Buping held his tongue, but he still furrowed his brows at Jeerah.

A moment of deathly silence ensued…

Finally unable to withstand his withering gaze, she lightly coughed. “Speaking of which, has there been any news of that missing master of mine?”

The moment the topic turned to Mo Ke, Buping’s anger immediately disappeared, as he answered with utmost earnesty. “No, the five cardinals have said that, in order to welcome the Goddess back to our world, the power of faith is absolutely necessary. Our faith isn’t sufficient yet to welcome Her back.”

“So I have more time for games then?” she half-asked.

“Master, did you say something?”

“No, nothing at all. Shouldn’t you be going to that church of yours, listening to those crazy sermons?”

“Ahhh… I’m going to be late… today is sermon day as well… It’s Cardinal Qiaoqiao too… No, no… there’s not enough time…” Looking at the time, he jumped to his feet, like a cat who had his tail stomped on. He dashed to the door, ordering his AI as he did so. “Flag a hover car for me… Crap, that’s still not enough time. Maybe if I jump out the window, and have the car catch me, I can save a minute and a half…”

Hearing that, Jeerah’s smile went stiff, “but this is the eighth floor… Just give up, you’re just a mortal.” She began muttering out loud at that point, “Although… that crazy ******* should be close to awakening already, maybe he won’t die…”

She sighed to herself in a bemused fashion, then slumped back into her sofa. “To think some randomly created cult can reach such heights in such a short time… Are the humans of this world so foolish? Or is my master just that capable… or beautiful… He didn’t exactly subjugate them by force.”

Just as she entered contemplation mode, an ear-piercing scream echoed through the streets of the city.

“More undead? Sounds near, too… A pity that my master’s arrival inadvertently set this planet on a path of no return… Well, I can’t return on my own. So before I locate my master, I should just continue pretending to be a normal human. But this… “money”… is really useful, but I can’t work. Or start a business. Sigh… I can only rely on that dunce’s wallet for now… But what am I even doing wasting time when there are games to be played?!”

This cult with a comical name had actually grown into a behemoth in only the span of just six months. The main reason would be that, while the normal awakening rate for humans was one in a million, the members of the cult displayed an awakening rate of one in ten thousand.

In fact, the rate of becoming an Awakened increased the more fervent one was. The greater their faith, the greater chance of becoming an Awakened, with some even saying the rate was one in a thousand for the most fervent of believers…

While the numbers hadn’t even crossed a single percentage point, this rate was miles better than one in a million.

Thanks to that phenomenon, the amount of believers exploded, going so far as to enter the upper echelons of the Federation itself.

This outcome was a result of the seeds sown by Ferti’nier. The clone she left on Gaia was able to gather faith and increase the rate at which she could attain godhood.

Before Mo Ke’s arrival, this world did not even have anyone that could remotely be considered immortal. It was a fully scientific world. A veritable treasure trove for Ferti’nier to reap the faith power of the masses.

This so-called clone of Ferti’nier was the “Magical Girl Harem Grooming System”. While looking after Mo Ke, it also researched the laws of the planet.

Being a former Devil King, she was uniquely equipped for this task. Trapped in the Chaos Crystal, she had all the time in the world to unravel the mysteries of this world. Even a treasure trove can be emptied with enough time and tenacity. Especially when there was no one to compete with.

However, the large-scale invasion of the undead messed up her plans. With no better options available, she had to leave behind that clone while Mo Ke and her were sent back to the Western Human Realms.

Before Karlston’s untimely self-destruction, she was more than ready to squat in this planet till she attained godhood.

But Karlstone blew himself up, and she was thrown into a dimensional rift…

Being a spirit trapped in a Demigod-tier dimensional artifact, the Chaos Crystal, she was well-versed in dimensional arts. A fortunate happenstance that allowed her to bring Mo Ke safely back.

The cult was currently expanding well on Gaia, while on the other hand, back in Purgatory, Mo Na had received a revelation of her own.

Dressed in the typical gothic-loli dress, our little she-devil had grown into a fine young she-devil. Her innate intelligence and devious nature allowed her to take to the Hells like fish in water.

Because Ferti’nier had shown herself using Mo Ke’s body in front of the other overlords, they had all been enthralled by her beauty then. Meaning, they were Mo Na’s thralls as well… After all, she could very well be their stepdaughter…

Despite Mo Ke’s countless protestations, his bloodlines of the Origin Angels meant that he could be a male or a female…

This little feature had caused him no small deal of consternation and trouble. And while Ferti’nier was kind enough to give him his little brother for a while, it was now on holiday again…

A man was only as great as his little brother, and all that…

Mo Na was currently seated in the middle of a black garden, playing around with Cinderel, the resident puppy mascot of the group, who hadn’t grown an inch since Mo Ke’s disappearance. With her slender fingers, she would dangle a piece of meat before the little puppy, and when the puppy could no longer hold herself back, she would pull back the meat.

Cinderel would grumble in her little barks, but Mo Na would only smile mischievously back.

Without Mo Ke around, she had only grown more mischievous.

Amidst their tomfoolery, the barrier surrounding Sable Radiance quietly dissipated.

Nearly all the overlords in the region felt that change the moment it happened. After all, the bane of their existence for countless years was finally gone!

Other than those old codgers, Mo Na, with her genius-level of talent, had also noticed this change.

“So it’s gone… Is the Apocalypse that Papa mentioned finally going to start…” Mo Na muttered to herself. Closing off her physical senses, she actually extended her psychic senses to where Mo Ke was at: the Western Human Realms!

“Was Papa gone all this time because the barrier was blocking him from teleporting back from the Western Human Realms?”

Now hugging Cinderel, she gently ruffled the puppy’s soft fur, to which Cinderel stuck out her little tongue and licked her hand appreciatively.

Because of her mother’s innate talent, Cinderel wasn’t born defective, despite her less-than-ideal genepool. Her natural talents afforded her an intelligence far above the average hellhound. She could tell that Mo Na was very happy right now, and was trying her best to get an extra pat or two while she could.

Amidst her rubbing, a distinctively irksome voice came knocking in her head unannounced.

“Oh? Isn’t this our little brat? Still remember your big sis? Although “mum” wouldn’t be bad either.”

“So you finally show yourself, Ferti’nier! You shameless woman, where have you been hiding Mo Na’s mama?” Mo Na said to the voice in her head. To outsiders, it probably looked like she was talking to herself.

“Kidnapped? That was an accident. But we’re back now, and the disappearance of the barrier means the Apocalypse is about to start.”

“Is mama over there now? The Western Human Realms. What happened back then? Mo Na even shoved that annoying Jeerah into a dimensional hole, but there’s been no news since. Maybe she’s dead?”

“Jeerah, huh… let’s not talk about that idiot, gets my blood boiling for no reason…”

For some reason or another, Ferti’nier’s tone immediately took a nose dive when the topic turned to Jeerah. Any hint of levity was instantly wiped off her, as if it had never existed in the first place.

“Yes, she is quite annoying… but isn’t ‘idiot’ a little…”

In Mo Na’s eyes, the lust demon known as Jeerah was a thorn at her side, but she was capable enough, else she wouldn’t have pushed the lust demon into that dimensional hole in the first place; she needed her to locate Mo Ke.

As for what she did when she arrived on Gaia…

“Let’s not talk about that idiot for now. How are your preparations? As I said, the Apocalypse is near, and even if my little brother hasn’t come to terms with his own position yet, you should still prepare as soon as possible. Wouldn’t you want him to see your capable side when we meet in the near future?”

“Hmph, as if Mo Na needs you to say that, Mo Na is super capable! In all sorts of ways! More than a she-devil who has no body! So no one but Mo Na can have mama!”

“Heh, our little girl is getting all jealous… How cute. Anyway, your big sis is just here to send her greetings.”

“Then scram, Mo Na doesn’t want to talk to you for long either.”

With that said, Mo Na shut off the link on her side.

“Cinderel, send word for all the overlords to gather, I have some important matters to hand down.”

“Woof!” The little puppy scampered off Mo Na’s lap with glee, then sped out of the garden.

“Mama… we will see each other soon…”

——–Jeerah’s Location——–

In a certain room, shut off from the warm embrace of the sun, behind multiple shut curtains and closed windows, was a certain woman lounging comfortably on a sofa, chest bursting at seams in her casual blouse, thighs on full view thanks to her shorts. Right now, Jeerah was disguised as a normal human, playing a game set in the medieval era.

Tapping on the holographic keyboard before her, her fingers flew at the speed that could only be described as monstrous, as she destroyed the boss before her without taking a single point of damage.

“Is there anything more boring than a hero-beats-up-the-demon-king story? Shentu Buping, get me some juice!” Jeerah lazily sunk into the soft cushions of the sofa, limbs stretched as she called out in her seductive voice.

Had this been any normal male, they would have probably dropped to their knees in worship already.

But who was this Shentu Buping? Well. He could best be described as Jeerah’s servant, dressed in a T-shirt with an anime character printed on it, someone she bumped into during one of his hiking trips.

Upon hearing this command, Shentu Buping promptly pulled out the refrigerator from its wall section, then reverently handed her the bottle of juice.

“Mistress, your juice.”

However, the she-devil did not even want to pull herself up from the endless depths of the sofa; that was how far she had fallen into depravity. But she was a devil for a reason…

Yet despite her relatively light dressing, and astonishing looks, Shentu Buping didn’t seem the least bit enticed as he kept his head and eyes lowered.

Clearly, something was off here… Unless Shentu Buping was actually Shentu Nodick…

Eyes locked to the departing figure of Wyrm, Cleoz’s smile swiftly vanished as the pilot in question left earshot.

He pulled out a communication crystal from his dimensional ring, sending forth a missive without delay. A while later, a reply came to which he discreetly opened and replied to.

This exchange of messages continued for a good few minutes, finally ending when the other party sent her last message.

Stowing the crystal back into his ring, Cleoz gazed into the distance of Mo Ke’s departure and muttered to himself, “You’re playing with fire here… my dear royal brother-in-law…”

On the other end of the crystal, in a resplendently resplendent villa of respendlence, Andassis the Seventh was in a meeting with his personal maidservant, Missiger.

“Three overlords…” Andassis the Seventh stated slowly, back against his chair, eyes glinting in the light. “Overlord Ironshield, Azerek. Puppeteer Master, Bodion. Thunder Emperor, Razor… The three of them together can easily wipe out a duchy by themselves…”

It was then that Missiger’s communication crystal lit up. She immediately activated it, and after a quick check, her perpetually icy face actually broke into a faint smile. “Your Majesty, Sword Saint Kuranshid and Hierophant Bodo Kazan have sent a congratulatory message. Seems like they found out about the battle at the fort as well.”

“Hmph, those fence-sitters, I’m not surprised they have eyes in the Impregnable Wall as well.” As he said that, his lips curled into a dismissive snarl.”They really thought that they were the kings of this world just because they had some measure of might?”

“With Lady Mo Na guarding that region, I have no doubt those two will have to re-evaluate their own worth,” seeing her employer so happy, Missiger couldn’t help but join in as well. “But Your Majesty, what about Lady Mo Na’s reward?”

“A reward…” Andassis the Seventh fell into deep thought. While he might have said nothing, he seemed to have had something in mind already.

“Your Majesty, it would be wise not to treat Lady Mo Na as the same Lady Mo Na of old. With her accomplishments, a suitable reward is required to placate the masses.” Missiger carefully uttered, unaware of the King’s own machinations.

“I understand…” He exchanged a look with his favorite maidservant, eyes a mixture of emotions.

A long while later, the King declared in a slow voice, “Lady Mo Na will be awarded the position of a Duke. Her title will be the Crimson Dragon Lady. Her fiefdom will be the province of Kesek in the north.

“Kesek?!”

Kesek was the borderland between Andassis and Ertalon. Dispatching her there was basically using her as a deterrent against Ertalon.

In fact, Kesek was the first province to surrender at the start of the war, and might even still be under the control of the Ertalonese kingdom. Sending Mo Na there was the same as an invasion northward.

After all, if this was Mo Ke’s fiefdom, he would be obligated to repel the invaders on his own lands.

“Since her base has already been established, let’s have her grow it then… But since Lady Mo Na is already the commander of the Magitek Knight Corp, have her elect a representative instead to handle the daily matters of her fiefdom.” The King frowned at that point. “I sincerely hope she is the savior of our country… that’s all we can hope for now…”

This was a precarious situation for the King. On one hand, Mo Ke’s contributions were too huge to be ignored, not without ramifications. But with the power Mo Ke displayed and his newfound status, any betrayal could be catastrophic for the kingdom. Any reward had to be carefully calculated so as not to stir unrest while maintaining the power balance.

After all, even Mo Ke’s unmatched looks were a weapon that could rally the masses under his banner…

“Missiger, relay a message to Lady Redleaf, mention I wish to have some tea with her in the gardens.”

“Understood.”

The kingdom of Andassis had always had close ties to the Nature Elves. While Mo Ke was basically the guardian of the entire kingdom, and must not be offended, balance was still an issue. Should no one be able to counterbalance his power, disaster was only a matter of time… even if the person himself had no desire for power right now.

As king, there was no way he would allow such a glaring weakness to be left unchecked in his kingdom. He needed an ally that wouldn’t betray him, or at least side with Mo Ke, that could also keep Mo Ke in check.

—————- Change of Scene—————-

The invasion of the undead forces had engulfed the planet of Gaia in the flames of war. As time passed and information began to trickle in, the current tally of the undead forces was in the billions.

At the start, these mysterious invaders held the upper hand due to their unknown powers.

However, the act of invading itself had changed the planet’s laws. Not only was Southern Plains affected, soon, the entire planet was changing as well. As the two worlds collided and melded, there began to appear humans with supernatural abilities. Awakened, as they would soon be called.

The villains Mo Ke fought were examples of these Awakened humans. Yet the rate at which they appeared was abysmal -barely one out of a million.

All that changed with the appearance of a strange cult known as the Goddess Ke Ke Cult.

“It’s useless, your nether flames might be strong, but as long as I touch them with an energy coating, and separate myself in an instant, even that lioness of yours can’t harm me.” The golden armored man roared in triumph. At this distance, his golden armor only seemed that much more majestic, reflecting his bluish lightning, akin to a heavenly deity of some sort. “You will pay with your life!”

It’s true my lioness doesn’t have the greatest of defenses, but just because you sent her flying doesn’t mean I have nothing left to play.

Heavensbreak!

The 72 plates of Heavenbreaks zoomed in to form a wall between me and the golden armored man. However, his lightning spear dove in like a snaking dragon, power focused into a single tip as it exploded. To my greatest surprise, the shield wall exploded in a shower of metal.

The plates themselves weren’t damaged, but their formation was definitely destroyed.

****, I knew he was strong, but… In that case, time for my newly acquired shield, the Shield of Gaia!

The Shield of Gaia was the name of that shield I looted off Ironshield. It had the ability to erect a defensive barrier, powered by the mana particles it automatically absorbed from the air. Every few minutes, it was able to erect a barrier that repelled magic.

Just don’t use it for physical attacks…

The familiar blue dome expanded outwards from the shield, however, barely a second later, it was torn asunder by the violently crackling spear of lightning.

“Ping…”

The sound of glass shattering echoed in my ears, heralding the advent of his deadly spear.

I could feel the hairs on my arm tingling from the sheer concentration of Lightning element in the air. Even with Wyrm’s nine-star defenses, I could feel the pores in my body react violently to the static energies, as if to lament our weakness and impending doom. Even so, I wasn’t about to give up, not even in the eleventh hour! In fact, putting myself in a ridiculously dangerous spot and getting out of it was a speciality of mine! My home ground, so to speak!

“Pseudo-Territory Resistance!”

Just as his lightning spear was about to pierce Wyrm, I activated the strongest card Wyrm had to play. In some sense, this single skill could be said to be the greatest bane of Territories. It might have only had one purpose, but in that single field, it was unmatched!

The moment his spear came into contact with Wyrm, it seemed to dissolve, breaking up into its most primal mana particle form.

Stab!

I thrust my dragonslayer greatsword into his chest without any hesitation. His eyes were wide with disbelief, even as it pierced his heart. Yet disbelieve all he wanted, this was the cruel reality he now faced.

“This is the new weapon of the age -to triumph over the supernatural with a mortal’s power.” I declared with slow confidence as I drew out the sword. A bright red flame flickered in the gaping wound I left in his chest. “The magitek armor. The first prototype of the Messianic series, Wyrm. Remember that name, even if you will soon die.”

“Wyrm… an unprecedented weapon… cough…”

The golden armored man collapsed onto the ground, hands grasping his chest as he tried to heal the wound in vain. But this was no mere sword wound I left on him. This dragonslayer greatsword of mine was bathed in the blood of a red dragon. Each wound it left contained the residual flames of that very dragon.

Even if the golden armored man was an overlord, he did not specialize in healing itself. By now, the flames had spread to his organs, and only an overlord who was a healer could save him. Perhaps even a Demigod was needed.

“I might not have concrete proof of this, but these weapons were the reason why Ertalon invaded Andassis, were they not?”

“Yes… His Majesty had already seen the fearsome potential they held… but even he did not… This is not a matter of future potential any longer…” At this point, he was well beyond coughing out blood. The excruciating process of having your innards burnt alive also burnt up whatever blood he had to throw up. Even so, he was strangely calm about it. “Lady Mo Na… if I’m not mistaken… I’ve seen your portrait before… such beauty… if only you were on our side…”

With those last words, he was dead. Barely a second after he finished talking, his body shriveled up into burnt, black husk.

Why wasn’t I in their kingdom, he was asking with his dying breath. Honestly, who knew. It was probably Ferti’nier’s fault. But that trip back from Gaia was an arduous journey on its own, just being alive was a miracle.

I’ve slain three overlords now… That should satisfy the criteria for shocking. I doubt there would be anyone who wouldn’t have heard of my magitek armors after the news break on this battle. Goal accomplished then.

Still… where did golden man even sprout out from?

Based on what I know about their deployments, that stone giant and the old mesmer were the only two planned for this ambush.

Yet just as I was pondering that question, I spotted a figure dashing in from the same direction the golden armored man arrived from.

He was clad in a breastplate of equally golden hue. With a red cape flowing in the wind behind him, he cut a striking figure in this desolate battlefield. He looked to be about 30 years of age, well-built, short, red hair, paired with the handsome face befitting a military man.

Naturally, I had some inkling as to who he was, but this was the first time I’ve seen him in person. Before I arrived in the fort, Andassis the Seventh had given me his portrait. He was General Cleoz, the officer in charge of the last fort guarding the heartlands of the kingdom.

“Lady Mo Na, I presume. Seems like you’ve taken care of the enemy.” Cleoz landed gently on the ground. He first eyed the blackened husk of the enemy, then nodded my way. He smiled, “You have personal thanks for the battle this day. Had it not been for your efforts, Lady Mo Na, I’m afraid our Impregnable Wall wouldn’t be so impregnable anymore.”

“General Cleoz? Are you sure you should be idling here?” With regards to this man’s timely appearance, I had my own views. “Is the main battle going well?”

“That’s just a small skirmish, this is the true battlefield.” Cleoz answered with another smile. “But who would have thought the enemy would send three overlords. Had it not been for Lady Mo Na…”

“A small skirmish, huh… I’m sorry, but I’m tired and wish to get some rest.” My deadpan voice echoed sonorously from within Wyrm. “Since the true battle has ended, I’ll leave the rest to you, Mr. General.”

“Very well, I’m sure Lady Mo Na must be feeling tired after having faced down three overlords, even if she’s not injured.” He replied politely. “I’ll have the best room prepared for your arrival–”

“Thanks.” I sped off without allowing him to finish. It was only when I was sure I wasn’t within his sights that I slowed down Wyrm’s flight speed.

Do you take me for a fool? Why was that golden armored man even there in the first place? And from the same direction, no less. I might be dumb, but not that dumb.

That man was clearly fighting with the General. The fact that they weren’t in battle, meant that they were at a stalemate. The stone giant must have somehow sent out a message to him when things were looking bad. In other words, the General did not try to stop the golden armored man when he tried to rush to the stone giant’s aid.

The time we fought was more than enough time for an overlord like Cleoz to accomplish a lot. The fact he appeared after the golden armored man died was more than coincidence, as if he was waiting for something.

In a battle like this, where the only overlords were concentrated on my end, him being the only overlord was highly advantageous to him. On a more sinister note, this would have been the perfect time to arrange an untimely death for me as well.

Even I had to admit I was fast becoming a threat to the King. By placing me as the commander of this newly formed knight order, I was now part of the greater political scene.

At the end of the day, regardless of whether the King believed my otherworldly identity, I wasn’t a native Andassean. We did not know each other for long as well, nor did I have any intention of being his queen. He probably had my origins investigated thoroughly the moment I arrived, but good luck finding anything.

No king, in his right mind, would trust a person who suddenly showed up on his doorstep. Andassis was no fool, so he clearly did not trust me either. We were just using each other.

Had it not been for the Ertalonese army striking so rapidly, he wouldn’t have given me such a heavy responsibility to begin with. He needed me, who could slay an overlord using the power of Wyrm.

But he still did not trust me. Because of my origins. The fact I now had the Magitek Knight Corp under my command was unusual. This was most likely his chance at having me “removed” from that potentially dangerous position.

“Hehehe, seems like our little brother has gotten a little smarter, after all. At least those souls weren’t wasted.”

Hey. I’m a little dumb, but not dumb dumb.

“Clearly, since you’re at least aware that you’re dumb.”

Hmph. Well, my relationship with Andassis the Seventh needs some digging into, maybe I will start with General Cleoz. He’s the nearest person.

At least the age of Magitek is finally here. That’s half my goals complete.

“Ahhh!! This cannot be!”

Even on the verge of death, the stone giant was struggling as hard as he ever was. Bits of rubble and soil filled the air as he flailed about in a vain attempt to put out the nether flames from my lioness.

Unfortunately for him, my nether flames weren’t so easily extinguished, even for an overlord.

Like a candle before a raging flame, the stone giant began to visibly melt before my eyes. Finally, his entire outer layer was burnt off, leaving the burnt husk of a man, now at the height I was familiar with.

“To think I would meet my match here… His Majesty was right… this strange armor indeed possesses the potential to change the world… or perhaps it already has… I was still too late…” he eked out one final lamentation, seeming more affected by his failure than his own death.

Just like that, an overlord, who just moments ago was rending the earth asunder, was now dead. Nothing left behind. Nothing, except his shield which miraculously survived the burning.

I flew over in Wyrm, picking up the still-burning shield and casually flicked away the flames. Hoisting it up high, I took a good look at the diamond-shaped shield.

“Ironshield! Blast, how dare you!”

Ironshield? Was that his title? That was my first thought as a thunderous roar echoed from a distance away, bearing ever closer by the second in a streak of golden light. In just the blink of an eye, he was in front of me.

“Territory: Raging Lightning Realm!”

Countless lightning bolts snaked towards that man within a hundred meter radius. Without a doubt, he had forcefully changed the laws of this surrounding area.

Like the roar of a victorious army, the air crackled with thunder as the bolts of lightning tore through every object they could lay their hands on.

“Monster! You will pay with your life!”

Another overlord!

A bolt of lightning shot up from his palms, then like a comet, or perhaps a sword from the heavens, pierced through the sky as it crashed down towards me.

“Protect the Commander!”

A number of the magitek knights tried to deflect the bolt from me, however that idea alone frightened me even further. I knew better than anyone how strong their defenses were. At best, they could take a hit from a seven-star, definitely not from an overlord.

Unless I did something fast, they were done for…

With no other choice, I tossed out the shield that I just looted from the fallen Ironshield. Like a discus, it spun towards the sky, clashing squarely with the falling bolt of lightning!

“Boom! Rumble!”

A blinding wave of light washed over the land. The shield I threw out was sent flying back towards me, crashing right into the three magitek knights who were bunched up together to deflect the bolt. Their mechanical bodies crumpled immediately upon impact, flying a dozen meters back, bodies silent and unresponsive.

“Go check up on them! I don’t care if they are alive or dead, but bring them back, and get out immediately!”

“Commander!”

“No talking back!”

“… understood…”

Finally, after a stern yelling, the kids abandoned their plan of helping me, albeit unwillingly. With those three magitek knights in tow, they sent another message.

“Commander, the three of them are fine, but the magitek knights are…”

“It’s fine, those can be replaced easily. What’s more important is that you guys are alright.”

“Commander…”

“We can talk about feelings later, we are still in a battle right now.”

“We’ve embarrassed you… Commander, here’s your shield.”

Ansom handed over the shield to me with both hands.

“Good, I want you guys to head back first. This isn’t a battle you can help out with.”

“Be careful, Commander.”

“Mhm.”

The magitek knights wasted no time in retreating from the battlefield. Unlike their opponent, this man wasn’t some lumbering giant, but an overlord wielding lightning itself. There was a possibility, with his speed, that he could even kill them all while fighting me.

That was why I chose to have the kids leave altogether, not even to observe the battle.

“They’ve left, in that case, shall we start round two?” Floating high above, wreathed in rings of lightning, the golden-armored man stared haughtily down at me. Ever since he threw out that first bolt, he hadn’t made an attempt to attack again. Clearly, he wasn’t up for a many-versus-one fight. Not that it would have mattered; they would have served as support at best, and at great cost.

In the first place, killing them would be easy with his speed. Thus he did not try to stop them from leaving either.

“Territory Skill: Lightning Spear!”

The golden-armored man pointed at me. His rings started revolving at a blinding speed, bolt after bolt of lightning started snaking out of it, coalescing into the shape of a spear.

Nether Flame Lioness!

I commanded my nether flame lioness to leap at the man while I ducked to the side myself. Just as a precaution, I readied that shield to block an attack, even preparing Heavensbreak as well, on second thought. While I might not know the limits of this newly-looted shield, it was undoubtedly higher than my own magitek armor.

Blessed with an impressive defense, the lightning spear collided with both Heavensbreak and the shield at full force, yet it failed to leave a dent, merely causing a frightening, but otherwise harmless, boom.

“Ranged attacks won’t work? In that case… Lightning Destruction!” The golden-armored man brought his hands together and pulled them apart. As he did so, the Lightning elements in the air coalesced violently, pulled apart like a noodle, finally forming up into a three to four meter long, blue spear.

He inhaled sharply. A second later, I felt an immense pressure smash into me, as he let forth his spear with a howl, aura honed to the sharpest possible in a bid to pierce through me!

Nether Flame Lioness!

The nether flame lioness boldly charged at the man. However, he barely moved a muscle in the face of that deadly black-red flame. With a swift stab, he sent the flames flying hundreds of meters away.

At that distance, even my nether flame lioness needed a few seconds to return. But in a battle of experts, a few seconds was more than enough to finish the battle a hundred times over!

****… this guy is too strong, I need to guard, now…

The dragonslayer greatsword tore through the old mesmer’s barrier in an instant. As the last of his spells crumbled, it pierced even the saucer-like tool the old mesmer was using to fly…

Boom!

It exploded like thunder, sending the old man flying away, violently coughing blood as he free fell to the ground.

Then, under the enthralled eyes of everyone present, Heavensbreak sliced the man into shreds.

“Mmm. Not bad, but a little old for my liking.”

Don’t be picky, at least you have something to eat!

“There’s still one more, little brother, don’t let him get away!”

Yeah. Yeah… I heard you the first time.

Now that the mesmer was dead, those brats under me started to wake up as well. The memory of having teamed up on me was still fresh in their minds. Now that they were in control once more, there was nothing to hide the guilt on their faces.

“Commander…”

“We just…”

“Don’t dwell on it, not having an anti-enthrallment system planned was an oversight. I will take note of it for the future.” Looking at their sorrowful expressions, I didn’t have the words to comfort them, nor did I have the time to do so in the middle of a battle.

“For the time being, maintain a safe distance. There’s still one more opponent left, and he’s an overlord. Do not approach us, under any circumstances.”

“Understood!”

The kids answered in unison before speeding off into the distance as a group. From there, they would watch the battle between me and the stone giant, who was now in a bind thanks to the death of that old mesmer.

That stone giant had clearly pretended to be on the run to lure us here. His plan was most likely to have that mesmer capture us in one go.

Based on how the Ertalonese had tried to steal Wyrm, our enemies clearly had information on us, and that would include the magitek knights. They probably knew that the pilots weren’t too strong themselves, but with their magitek knights, the potential destruction they would cause would be dangerous. In order to minimize their losses, that old mesmer was key.

Unfortunately for them, they never expected an exception to the rule like me. How could they? I had the bloodlines of the Lust Demon and Illusion Demon. Was there any person more suited to countering psychic magic than me? Maybe not in a hundred years!

Especially not when I still had a certain she-devil waiting to help me, should anything go wrong.

Thus their plan was doomed to fail from the start.

“Old man Pala!”

The stone giant was shaken from his reverie by the death of his companion. But he wasn’t running any longer. With a great howl, he lunged at me, every step booming like a miniature explosion.

“You monster, you will pay for this?!”

“Monster?” I sneered at the charging stone giant. As I did so, countless fireballs rained down upon him. “If you guys didn’t try to invade Andassis, he wouldn’t have needed to die. You were the ones who started this war, and now I’m the monster? Shameless.”

“Ahhh!”

The stone giant clearly wasn’t in the mood for a debate. He frantically swung at me with his arms, kicked at me with his legs, and even tried a couple of jumping stomps.

But all his moves were easily dodged by me, especially in his frenzied state.

“Come down here! Come down here, this instant!”

“As if, why should I listen to you?”

“Ahhhh!

He yelled with a primal fury as he slammed his hands against the floor, conjuring up an earthen sphere when he pulled them up.

I immediately knew what he was up to.

“Die!”

He tossed the sphere at me, but I dodged it cleanly with a duck.

“Magitek Knight Corp, prepare artillery fire!”

“Yes, Commander!”

The kids obediently turned their aim towards the stone giant and carpet bombed him. Yet the stone giant did not even pay the sky-darkening barrage of flames any heed, instead howling into the heavens. “Territory: Earthen Destruction!”

The stone giant leapt high into the sky, and with a grand landing, he sent the earth itself crying in despair as the ground cracked and shook violently.

Unable to fly for long periods of time, the magitek knights were barely able to maintain their footing in this precarious situation.

The fireballs they had sent towards him were seemingly blocked by an invisible force, igniting prematurely against each other as they were deflected.

“A gravity skill… You should have the kids retreat for now, you wouldn’t want them to get caught in this battle, little brother.”

“Everyone, retreat from the battlefield!”

Honestly, that last command wasn’t needed at all. By now, most of them knew that they were useless in this fight, especially when they saw their fireballs being deflected so easily.

Without any hesitation, they rapidly pulled back.

“If you won’t come down on your own, I’ll make you come down!”

As he said that, he charged towards the fleeing magitek knights, eyes red with murder.

Following Fortitude of Stone, the stone giant had shown two Territory skills.

“That fellow is better than I thought! Little brother, get him quick, his soul is definitely going to be a feast. Your big sis is eating well tonight!”

Quit nagging, I know what to do.

I had intended to win this battle with just Wyrm, but now that the stone giant was using the kids to get to me, I knew I couldn’t hold back any longer. Now was the time to finish him off.

“Nether Flames Lioness!”

A vortex of fire materialized in front of me, expanding rapidly in the span of a few seconds to ten meters in diameter. As the flames grew, they took the shape of a gate, from which a seven to eight materials tall lioness emerged, composed entirely out of the blackest and bloodiest of flames.

“Roarrr!!”

It roared at the heavens before leaping at the stone giant.

The stone giant had an impressive defense, but this nether flame lioness was also my greatest spear… Let’s see who will win in this battle of the greatest spear and the greatest shield.

Fearlessly, it dove right at the stone giant. The giant did not even hesitate to backhand the incoming lioness, like it would a fly.

However, my nether flame lioness was an elemental creature, and wasn’t about to be bullied by a mere physical attack. The instant the giant’s hand came into contact with it, its flames latched onto his hand, crawling up its shoulder and engulfing half his body in no time at all.

“This…The Nether Flames?!” Realizing that he couldn’t put out the flames, no matter how much he tried, it dawned upon the stone giant how much trouble he was in. “There’s no way you would have such an ominous power!”

“Whether or not I have it is something your body knows better than anyone else.” I coldly stated. “For daring to harm my kids, I will have you pay the ultimate price.”

The battlefield is always changing. Nothing embodied that truism more than my own magitek knights turning their cannons towards me and firing off fireballs…

My mind was immediately thrown into disarray…

Exactly how am I supposed to dodge all those fireballs?! But if they are just fireballs… Maybe it’s not as bad as I first thought.

Heavensbreak!

The 72 plates of Heavensbreak formed up automatically into a giant shield. Just in time, too. As the last slice of Heavensbreak fell into place, the fireballs darkened the skies before me.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The explosions raged on unabated for five whole minutes before the dust began to settle around me. Flames scorched the lands, leaving nothing but a desolate wasteland as far as the eye could see.

While it might have seemed like I was in a bad shape, the truth couldn’t be any further. Lest one forgot, Wyrm was constructed with Red Dragon scales, and the one defining feature of such scales were that they could absorb Fire elements.

Forged with the same scales, Heavensbreak was unharmed by the barrage, even absorbing some of them in the process. Their scales gleamed that much brighter after what was supposed to be certain death.

Magitek knights all had their own mana limits. The mana cannons were mana intensive to begin with, let alone after having used a few barrages at the breach. At this point, they were spent and had to stop firing.

To the enemy, I was probably dead.

Technically speaking, the magitek knights could fire as much as they wanted thanks to their ability to absorb ambient mana in the air, but that level of replenishment wasn’t enough for such a concentrated barrage of fireballs.

“Oh my, maybe I shouldn’t have cut those corners during development, but that’s such a bother…”

Ferti’nier voice came in chiming, laced with the thickest sarcasm.

Hold on, Ferti’nier, what did I just hear you say?!

“Nothing. Your big sis wasn’t saying anything. Little brother, you must have heard wrongly. It’s actually sad. How can someone so young be going senile already? How about a hug to comfort you?”

Hmph. I know what I heard, don’t try to play coy with me. You thought it was a bother to implement a psychic defense system, that’s why you didn’t do it.

“Oh, that’s just hearsay, little brother. Your big sis said no such thing.”

Hah. And I thought you were a Lust Demon. Or did you change your Original Sin to Sloth?

“Mesmers aren’t even that common to begin with, even less so accomplished ones. To be able to control 90 pilots like that is even rarer. Your big sis just didn’t think you would bump into someone like that…”

So you did cut corners. Useless.

I blurted that out without thinking, but the moment I did so, I immediately regretted it. Ferti’nier wasn’t one to take a slight, no matter how minor, lying down…

“Oh… don’t be mad, little brother. Those brats are just under the temporary control of his Territory. Once you kill the mesmer, the control will come undone.”

I know that as well, but where is he?

“Above you, of course.”

Above me… She’s really being awful helpful today. Did her character change overnight? Or maybe she knows she messed up as well.

By now, the residual dust and rubble were gone, revealing Wyrm which was good as new.

“Impossible! After all that…”

A wizened voice gasped in surprise from above me. I looked up to find an old man hovering aboard a saucer-like magical tool. He was probably muttering to himself, but Wyrm was more than capable of picking up such anomalies.

That’s the mesmer? I guess there’s no one else other than him. If they were to bring too many, the plan would be easily exposed. And Ferti’nier herself said that he would be flying above me.

Still. That’s pretty high up. How cautious of him; he must have prepared for this ambush for a long time. I might not have even thought to look there if Ferti’nier hadn’t warned me beforehand.

“You think you’re safe just because you’re all the way up there? How naive… it’s time to pay for your crimes!”

Not wasting another word, I rushed at the old man with a surety completely at odds with the sense of safety he thought he enjoyed.

“Stop that thing!” Finally realizing how imminently dangerous my attack was, the old mage jumped back in fright, immediately commanding his enthralled magitek knights to try and stop me.

A second later, all 90 of the kids swarmed towards me without hesitation.

You think they can stop me? How futile. They aren’t as fast as Wyrm, and those mass-produced models aren’t capable of long flight.

Their lack of features was a conscious decision on my part, or rather, a conservative decision. I did not want the budget for each to go too high. Thus, they only had the ability to fly for short spurts.

I swatted away the closest magitek knight and sped on. Like a sword cleaving the sky, Wyrm took to the heavens unopposed, its target that old mesmer!

“Damned monster!”

His frail constitution obviously wasn’t suited for close-range combat. Psychic magic was an obscure discipline to begin with, so battle tactics were hardly on their minds when developing.

The mesmer had no guardian available to him. All he had were whatever tools he had for emergencies. Like a defensive scroll, or a magical shield of some sort. Naturally, he threw out all that he had, even going so far as to use that saucer as a shield.

I could see the fear in his eyes. But even his myriad layers of defenses weren’t going to spare him from my wrath!

“It’s no use. Cast all you want, but nothing will save you from daring to control my cute little subordinates!”

Having created over ten barriers, the old mage looked more like a flying saucer than a human at this point. Yet if there was someone I wanted to kill, nothing could stop me!

“Crack! Crack! Crack!”

Wyrm shattered each of his barriers without resistance, my dragonslayer greatsword tearing through them like paper. All around me, the signature cracking sound of a barrier shattering filled the air.

With Ferti’nier at the helm, the Heavensbreak plates dove into the blinding cloud of dust. All around me, the screeches of metal against metal rang out, clawing at my ears with a ferocity never seen before .

Three seconds passed, and the stone giant abruptly lunged out of the dust cloud. I ducked to the side with Wyrm, evading him as he slammed into a nearby wall.

A deafen explosion rocked the fort as a sizable chunk of the wall exploded forth in a shower.

It was a mighty ambush, but useless as long as it did not connect.

Back faced towards me, I found that his back wasn’t as severely damaged as I would have hoped. There were scratches, but despite Heavensbreak’s multiple attacks, his own defenses were too high for the plates to leave any sizable wound.

There’s no choice, then. Melee, it is.

This time, I did not wait for Ferti’nier’s advice before diving in with Wyrm. While he was still recovering from his previous attack, I swung my greatsword as many times as I could physically muster at his exposed back.

As an Epic weapon, even his fortified skin wouldn’t come out unscathed.

The stone giant seemed to have picked up on this as well. Rather than try to face his body around, he frantically crawled ahead, ramming through the wall and whatever was unfortunate enough to be in his path.

A great number of Ertalonese soldiers were sent flying, even two of my own magitek knights were affected.

“Meat, you ain’t escaping from your fate that easily. Little brother, chase it down, don’t let it get away!”

Yeah. Yeah.

The stone giant fleeing wasn’t lost on the troops present. Their flagging morale instantly collapsed when they realized their vaunted overlord reinforcement was trying to escape as well. To begin with, the volley of fireballs had taken a huge toll on their numbers; there were less than one thousand of them at this point. Their second wave of attack was only holding on under the premise of that overlord still being in the battle. As long as their overlord was active, victory was still possible.

However, even that was no longer possible. That overlord wasn’t even a match for me. In fact, he was desperately running for his life. While he might have taken out two magitek knights in the process, that wasn’t intentional. And even counting them as taken out was being generous. The magitek knight possessed unbelievable defenses. While the machine might have been destroyed, the pilots were alive.

“Eight of you, stay behind as a contingency. The rest of you are with me!”

I had eight of them stay behind to mop up the remaining troops and take care of the two kids. The two magitek knight hulls still had to be recovered, and the wall was still a concern. In the meantime, it was time to hunt.

In all likelihood, that fellow was heading towards his main camp. With the 90 remaining magitek knights, they should be able to handle the troops there. Just one volley of their mana cannons alone would cow the troops into submission.

“With the Commander!”

Unlike the Ertalonese army, the kids couldn’t be more motivated even if they wanted to. With the winds behind their sails, they roared their acknowledgement at the idea of charging into the enemy’s main camp.

The stone giant’s speed was admirable. But before the flight mode of Wyrm, he was at best average. As I led my team in pursuit, I made sure to continue peppering him with my shoulder cannons. Even if they couldn’t bring him down, I wasn’t about to let up.

However, it was about that time when the cooldown on his magical dome recovered. A half-dome materialized out of thin air, blocking the fireballs with its shimmering blue magicks. A series of explosions shook the ground around us. The air itself became noticeably hotter from the residual heat.

Our pursuit continued for another five kilometers. Throughout the chase, the stone giant didn’t seem as panicked as he initially was. In fact, he seemed to be leading us somewhere, and that somewhere wasn’t his main camp.

Realizing that, I sped up Wyrm to its limit to try and chase him down this instant.

Dragonslayer greatsword in hand, I pointed at the stone giant and commanded, “Maintain artillery fire on the enemy, I’m heading in.”

“Understood!”

With the order given, the kids slowed down their speed to maintain a long distance from the stone giant before firing off their shoulder cannons.

With over 90 magitek knights lobbing fireballs his way, even that magical dome was only able to hold out for a few more seconds before it shattered and dissipated in the air. The remaining fireballs landed squarely on his back.

“Cowards! Fight me fair and square, if you dare!” The stone giant yelled angrily, though he didn’t seem all that hurt by their attacks.

I was already in the process of preparing for a dive when I saw a golden opportunity to shake him further.

“Idiot, what do you think soldiers are for?!”

The moment those words left my mouth, a surge of psychic energy hammered into me, encompassing my armor and the kids as well.

What’s going on? Where did this psychic field come from?

I immediately asked myself, but it was then that a voice started speaking in my head in a slow, soothing tone.

“Submit to me… be my slave… do not resist… If you do, your brain will implode… submitting is the only way…”

Unfortunately for the owner of that voice, psychic suggestions like that were useless, Territory or no Territory. With the bloodline of the Lust Demon and the Illusion Demon in me, my psychic defenses couldn’t be any stronger. Especially not when I had a Devil King residing in me; what was an overlord before that?

Even a Demigod might not be able to work his magic on me. And there was no way anyone would allow a mesmer to reach that level. This mesmer being an overlord was an oddity in itself.

I wonder how the Ertalonese king hid such a powerful mage and allowed him to become an overlord.

However, just because that mesmer’s suggestion did not work on me, did not mean the kids were okay…

As the effects of the psychic Territory washed over them, their barrage fire stopped. Instead, their cannons turned ominously towards me…
