Chapter 25 – Zhao Junsheng’s son

“Get a room for what?” Chen Weier was a bit confused after hearing that. It wasn’t really her found that she couldn’t think of it, while in Songjiang, we would either get intimate in my home or Zhao Yanyan’s, we never went to get a room at the hotel.

“Of course it’s to play the kind of game that only the three of us can play!” I said lecherously.

“Play game?” Chen Weier still didn’t quite get it, actually if she think about the connotations a little, she would have understand, it’s just that she didn’t think in that direction at all.

“Weier-jiejie, don’t listen to him ********, hubby wants to play that robber and peasant girl game with you!” Zhao Yanyan explained with giggle.

“Hai hai!” Chen Weier was eating a crayfish at the time, so hearing Zhao Yanyan say that, a slice of chilly got stuck in her throat, causing tears to fall out. After coughing for a long time, she said, “Yanyan-meimei, why are you becoming more and more like him, you even say such perverted things while we’re eating.”

“How so, this game was invented by Weier-jiejie! You don’t know, while you’re at home, hubby forced me to play some kind of uniform seduction with him, you brought up all of his bad habits!” Zhao Yanyan glared at me and said.

“Hai hai!” Hearing Zhao Yanyan say that, I nearly choked since a piece of spicy crayfish got stuck in my throat, forcing me to drink a sip of water and said. “Yanyan, let’s talk about this when we get to the hotel.”

“What’s uniform seduction?” Chen Weier asked in confusion.

“You’ll know later,” I answered perfunctorily.

Due to getting a sudden idea this summer, I downloaded a few **** flicks from the internet. Just looking at the nurse uniform, school uniform, and teacher’s clothing in it made my blood boil. In mainland during the 1990s, the present where the internet was still not very developed, most teenagers did not know about uniform seduction, so it was normal for Chen Weier to not know. After watching those flicks, I got Zhao Yanyan wear custom made school uniforms, resulting in the chick getting dirt on me, and said that I got spoiled by Chen Weier, not only playing some sort of perverted game, and got even over the line.

I thought of Ye Xiaoxiao again, if I could do that with her at school or in the office… Hehe. However, I wonder how she is recently, I got people to gather some news for me several times, but they didn’t get anything. I don’t know if it’s because she didn’t manage to think it through or not, but I didn’t plan to wait any longer. Even if she didn’t think it through, I will go and find her. Since I adding Su Yingzi and the random-*** Yu Ting, laozi’s harem is extravagant enough, I’ll welcome her back, then do it slowly.

Zhao Yanyan said something beside Chen Weier’s ear, instantly causing her to blushed. After quite a while, she said to me softly, “Hubby, if you want to play, then I’ll play with you, don’t trouble Yanyan-meimei!”

“Ha! And you were talking about me, Weier-jiejie, you are even lewder than me!” Zhao Yanyan said.

“Alright, alright, who said that your Yanyan-meimei doesn’t like it, she was even more excited than me!” I said.

“Oh wow! Liu Lei, you’re still talking!” With that, Zhao Yanyan’s hand attacked my waist like a crab claw. Although my body has been modified, and that this amount of pain is nothing to me, I still pretended like I was in tremendous pain, since I still need to satisfy a woman’s vanity. Otherwise, if she found out that it was useless against me, she might think of some kind of other weird moves.

Seeing the ambiguous relationship between Chen Weier and I, he felt like we were flirting, and that we didn’t look at relatives no matter what, so he finally couldn’t stand it, causing him to walk over and say to Chen Weier, “Weier, what exactly is your relationship with this brat!”

At that moment, Chen Weier was chatting happily with us, seeing Zhang Tianyang suddenly say that, she first momentarily blanked, then said coldly, “It doesn’t seem like your business what our relationship is, right? If you must know, then I’ll tell you, he’s the boyfriend I told you about!”

“Boy-boyfriend?” Zhang Tianyang said in disbelieve. “You’re older than him, how… What’s more, didn’t this brat say that you’re relatives? Ha, I know, Weier, you must be lying to me, right, you must be!”

“****, are you done yet, we are relatives, but hubby is a relative, right!” I said impatiently.

“Weier, don’t get tricked by this brat, look, he’s obviously a little white face, and only knows how to pick up girls, I saw that this brat was touching the girl beside him!” Zhang Tianyang pointed at me and shouted.

“You don’t need to care about my business!” Chen Weier said like she didn’t hear anything. No ****, she couldn’t be more clear about Zhao Yanyan and my relationship, the three of us often sleep together, what’s wrong with a little touch.

“Weier, you must be tricked by his flowery words, you’re still young, and don’t understand, look at how poor this brat is and is still two-timing, who does he think he is, is he Shuguang Corporation’s CEO or the CEO’s son. Finding two wives like others when he doesn’t have money, you will definitely not be happy with someone like him in the future!” Zhang Tianyang no longer cared about shouting in public.

Hey, he really guessed it right, although I wasn’t Shuguang Corporation’s CEO, Shuguang Corporation belonged to me. It’s just that, why did so many people think Director Zhao had a son?

Even Zhao Yanyan found this funny, Chen Weier naturally also knew about my financial capability, so she forcefully restraint her laughter and said, “So, I would be happy with you?”

“About this… At least it’ll be better that with this brat! Weier, where do I not compare up to him, Huaxia University has the elite academics from all around the world, the top people from every industry, I do count as a top student in our computing faculty, in terms of family conditions, although my family doesn’t compare up to the big boss of those large companies, we do have a car and house in the capital! Although I might not be as handsome as the brat, but they have always said a talented man and a beautiful woman, there’s never been mention of a handsome man, it’s not as if we’re competing to be mail prostitutes, you can’t eat handsomeness.” Zhang Tianyang said proudly. From his perspective, with his conditions, aside from not being as good as the brat in terms of looks, he was no worse in other areas. His Adidas clothing was worth about three thousand something, look at what this brat was wearing, the ****** shirt doesn’t even have a brand, it was probably made on street stalls! Furthermore, treating girls to this sort of cheap street side restaurants, he was obviously a poor person and didn’t know romance! Thinking that, Zhang Tianyang instantly got more confident.

“Sorry, I have no interest in what you talked about. Zhang Tianyang, I had thought that you were a just person, and wasn’t vain. I didn’t think you were like this as well, and think that you can gain a girl’s affection with money. I was really wrong about you, I had treated you as a friend, but now we aren’t even normal friends, please don’t disturb me in the future,” Saying that, it was equivalent to Chen Weier making things absolute in order to make Zhang Tianyang give up completely.

Chapter 24 – Hubby is a relative, right?

Thus, I told the driver the address. The driver thought to himself, so it really isn’t a rich dude, I really don’t know why the two girls are with him since he takes the girls to eat at street side restaurants! However, his thoughts immediately changed after we got off.

I casually throw him a hundred yuan and said, “No need for change.”

The driver received it and thought, “So, the real ones don’t show it!”

When we found that street restaurant from back then, we saw that the owner was still the same person as back then. My memory was great after getting reborn, allowing us to locate the place very easily.

Seeing the three of us come in, he smiled with a bright smiled, “Yo! You guys came again, what would you like to eat today?”

Zhao Yanyan momentarily blanked and said, “Why is the memory of this owner so amazing, we came here three years ago, right?”

I smiled, “Don’t listen to his ********, how could he remember, those are just standard words for getting business! Even if we haven’t come here before, he would still say that!!”

“What would you like to eat?” The owner walked over with the menu.

“Then we’ll have twenty Maxiao for now!” I said.

“This xiaoge is obviously someone who understands food from first glance, we are not praising ourselves, the crayfish here is definitely the best in Yanjing city!” The owner immediately praised himself.

Upon hearing this, Zhao Yanyan immediately giggled! It really was as I had said, what the owner said was pretty much the same as three years ago!

“What is this young lady laughing for, don’t not believe it, I’m not exaggerating, even the CPC officials ate here before, they all praised it to no end!” That owner showed us a thumbs up.

The more I listened to the guy, the more exaggerated he got, he’ll probably speak about how the American President was a guest here as well. Thus, I quickly wave me hand to tell him to prepare the food.

Before the crayfish came, we heard a loud laughter. Several people walked into the street-side restaurant. I looked over, one of them was actually Zhang Tianyang!

Since most of the guests were eating outside, there were a few within the room. That’s why our table was very obvious, Zhang Tianyang clearly saw us as well. When he saw Chen Weier sitting here, his expression changed slightly. He said a few words quietly to the people beside him and ran over.

“Weier, didn’t you say you have stuff to do today? Why did you come to eat here?” Zhang Tianyang said with a sullen face, he was clearly very displeased in his heart.

Chen Weier never thought that Zhang Tianyang could actually come here to eat as well, so she wasn’t sure of how to reply. Chen Weier didn’t actually lie to him, she did have stuff to do! However, hearing what Zhang Tianyang said, it was as if she had intentionally lied to him.

“That’s right! Weier did have stuff to do, she promised to eat lunch with me!” I said in palce of Chen Weier.

“What? ****, the **** are you, brat, is Weier something you can call! Wait, I remember, isn’t the brat that Chu Gao brought over, you? What were you called again?” Seeing that I asked Chen Weier out for lunch, Zhang Tianyang immediately got angry.

He had pursued Chen Weier for three years, he has sent flowers, have written love letters, there were three hundred and sixty-five days in a year, as long as he was in school, he would call every day, hwo could he let this brat get there first? However, he looked again, there was still a beauty beside the brat, and seemed rather intimate with him, so he wasn’t that sure either, was there no relationship between him and Chen Weier? Perhaps they were relatives? That’s right!

It must be, Chu Gao said that this brat is his classmate, so he must be a new student in the first year, and Chen Weier is already in her third year, if they didn’t know each other before, how could they eat together when school just started. Furthermore, Chen Weier must be older than him. Adding onto the fact that the girl beside him might just be his girlfriend, this meant that Chen Weier didn’t have much to do with him. Thus, he said, “You are Weier’s relative, right?”

“I’m called Liu Lei!” I said. “I should be.” I said it in an ambiguous manner as I thought in my heart, hubby is a relative, right? With that, I intentionally looked towards Chen Weier. As I expected, this chick also understood my meaning since she blushed shyly.

Seeing Chen Weier like that, Zhang Tianyang thought Chen Weier got embarrassed, so he said with happiness in his heart, “Since it’s Weier’s relative, then you’re my friend, this meal is my treat, don’t be too courteous!”

With that, he pulled over a chair familiarly and sat on the side. Then he waved his hand, “Owner, add a few more dishes!”

Afterwards, he said, “Weier, when can you actually accept me, in my eyes, why are you doing this, I know your family conditions definitely isn’t very good, you’ve been eating in the school canteen every day for three years in a row, and you refuse to buy a piece of nice clothes. After following me, you can buy anything you want and eat anything you want!”

I thought to myself, if you said this a few years earlier, Chen Weier’s brother Chen Yong might really have sold Weier to you in the heat of the moment, but that’s impossible now.

Since Chen Weier was sold to my without any choice due to money, even though she didn’t know that I was the one that bought her virginity, this left a deep scar in Weier’s heart, she didn’t want anyone else to think that she was with me because of money. Hearing Zhang Tianyang’s words, she naturally became angry and said coldly, “Who said I don’t have money!”

“I…” Zhang Tianyang stuttered, and didn’t know what to say. Was he supposed to say that I see that you aren’t wearing any clothes and don’t have a car to pick you up?

“Okay, Zhang Tianyang, I understand your good will, we’ll pay ourselves, your friends are still over there waiting for you, hurry over tehre and see!” Chen Weier’s words clearly told Zhang Tianyang to leave this place quickly.

This wasn’t the first time Zhang Tianyang has gotten turned down, and he did kind of get braver and braver the more he got turned down. It’s just that seeing Chen Weier sitting with another boy, he felt rather annoyed. On the other hand, Zhang Tianyang’s friend all sneered and mocked Zhang Tianyang after seeing him hit a wall, causing Zhang Tianyang to get even more pissed.

After Zhang Tianyang left, Chen Weier said quietly, “This person is really annoying, he pestered me for three years, and wants to treat me every single day.”

“I know, I was on the side when he called you,” I said.

“Hubby, don’t get angry, actually Zhang Tianyang isn’t a bad person, he might have just gotten a bit angry after seeing us get to intimate today,” Chen Weier understood my personality, there wasn’t a single person that pursued her who ended up well, so she was worried that I would do something to Zhang Tianyang.

“Hehe, don’t worry, your hubby, I, isn’t that petty, as long as he doesn’t do anything over the top, then let him pursue you. I won’t do anything to do, it can also serve to test you,” I chuckled.

“Heng! Test me for what, I’ve have countless pursues this three years, but I’ve only thought of you in my heart! How could you say that!” Chen Weier faked her anger.

“Okay, okay, I’m just kidding, we’ll get a room in a nice hotel after eating, hubby will properly compensate you,” I said lecherously.

[Vol. 3] Chapter 1 – Mistress Uproar

“Melissa, you don’t have to prepare supper today. I’ll eat outside”

“Oh, even though you came back after a long absence you want to go out?! I put so much effort into it and yet–”

“My bad, leave it here I’ll eat it tomorrow morning.”

I left the mansion while hearing Melissa’s scolding in the background.

I put on my mask on the way to the hideout as to not attract any attention.
I passed Doji outside the mansion and he said “I delivered her properly” in a low voice.
But honestly, I thought that Elsa might not be in the hideout.

Aah, though this is the first time seeing her after that time.
But if one thinks calmly about it wouldn’t be weird for that to happen.
She didn’t sign a contract with me so Elsa is a free person and able to go where ever she wants.
Generally being a mistress isn’t normal.

That’s why I decided to be neither disappointed nor angry even if Elsa isn’t there.
That would be too excessively miserable as a man.
If that’s really the case I want to be capable to get through it with a laugh.
That’s what the popular villain Carlo would do, right?

As I thought about such things I reached the hideout with a fast beating heart.
I thought about knocking the door first but it’s my own house and if no one is in there that wouldn’t be too cool so I opened the entrance with one of the spare keys the old landlady gave me.

 Gacha

When I opened the door– Elsa was standing there.
She waited for me and didn’t run away.
I was deeply moved and approached her to hug her.

“El–”

“Kyaaaaaaaaa!”

“What, what happened?!”

As Elsa screamed Crescent moon jumped out from the back of the room.
 Why are you here?

“A, a strange looking person suddenly came in here!”

Elsa quickly hid behind Crescent Moon.
Ah, I forgot I was wearing a mask.

“You, a strange person you say, but isn’t that Akatsuki?! Didn’t you say you were Akatsuki’s mistress?”

“Eh?”

Elsa became speechless as she heard Crescent Moon’s words.
 This girl, maybe……That’s natural, huh?

“No, I’m sorry for surprising you, it’s me.”

 I took off the mask.

“Carlo-sama”

Elsa suddenly wore a joyful expression.
I’m relieved, it seems like she is happy to see me.

“What’s the meaning of this, Mister Akatsuki? Explain it to me properly”

I heard Crescent Moon speaking in a harsh tone.
I mean, why are you even here?

I decided to first sit down in the living room and drink some tea.
Yeah, the tea Elsa made isn’t bad at all.
Though I’d prefer it if it was a little more black.

“I came over because I thought I might be able to meet Mister Akatsuki because I didn’t see your face around that much recently and then when I came over I found this girl here”

Crescent Moon started to speak with me.
Without a doubt the eyes behind her mask were cold.

“So, when I asked her who she was she answered with “I’m Akatsuki-sama’s mistress”.”

Mmm, you should fix that habit of telling every person you are someone’s mistress immediately.
That will give us a bad image.

“Because I’m really Carlo-sama’s……I mean Akatsuki-sama’s mistress. Hey, it’s like this, right, Carlo-sama?”

Ehm, she mixes up Carlo and Akatsuki a lot.
Well, though I think that’s unavoidable.

“Elsa, call me “Akatsuki” from now on”

“Ah, I’m sorry, ehm……Akatsuki-sama”

So, shall I tell everything to Crescent Moon?

“What Elsa said was the truth. This girl is supposed to stay here from now on.”

“Heeh, “this girl”, huh? Just when one thinks he just had his debut as an adventurer and borrowed this place he’s already surrounded by mistresses as one would expect of “Akatsuki-sama”.”

 Why is she so angry?⌈1

“Didn’t you say something like “I’m no good with women”? Is that so? So it was like that.”

“It’s not like that but various things happened. Well, let’s get along.”

Why is my heart beating like this?
I just share a work-relationship with Crescent Moon while sometimes looking at her mountains, right?
By the amount of money she cheated out of me it should my privilege to take a look.
Besides, I’ve only kissed Elsa so far.
So her being angry while I’m completely innocent⌈2⌋ is unreasonable.

“Apart from that, do you have any business with me, Crescent Moon?”

“Hmpf, oh well, fine. Yes, that’s right, I came over to invite you to go together exploring a labyrinth for a while because the guild asked me to do it.”

Was I able to safely change the subject?
Getting angry for some incomprehensible reason is one of the reason’s I don’t like women.⌈3

“Labyrinth exploration, that sound’s interesting”

“Doesn’t it? Even though I came all the way just to invite you……”

“Then, let’s go to the guild at once. Crescent Moon, I’m sorry but could you please go ahead? I’ll be coming soon as well.”

I was somehow able to send Crescent Moon away and it was just the two of us left.

“You arrived safely.”

“Carl……Akatsuki-sama, can I really live in such a nice house?”

“Yeah. You may freely use it. I’ll also usually wear this mask”

I got the mask from the other room and put it on.

“Well, it’s a bit scary. But I think it suits you well.”

“Is that so? You’ll probably get lonely because I can’t come here that often so I don’t mind if you go outside.”

I took out three gold coins and put them in front of Elsa.

“You should be able to live with this for the time being. Of course, you are allowed to send it to your grandparents if something remains. Tell me if it’s not enough, okay?”

“Well, this is more than enough. Thank you very much. This not being enough is outrageous.”

“But I might ask you to go shopping for me, anyway, just tell me.”

Then I stood up and got close to Elsa.

“I thought that Elsa might have already left this place.”

“Why? I did properly promise you this.”

“No, it’s just that we only met once. Thank you very much.”

“I should be the one to thank you. Thank you for treating me this well.”

“I heard it a lot already but is it really okay?”

At my question, Elsa looked down bashfully and answered me in a low voice.

“……Of course. Because, ehm, you were totally cool and it was love at first sight. And I also gave you my first kiss.”

I couldn’t stand it anymore and hugged Elsa.
I forgot to remove the mask……Like this, I’m not able to kiss her.
 How regrettable!

VPnA – The Prequel Volume 2 Chapter 22

Here’s yesterday’s chapter that I couldn’t post since I had a fever.

Remember, the Very Pure and Ambiguous – The Prequel Fan Art contest is going on. I would really appreciate it if I could get some submissions… >_<

Also, do check out my other translated novel over at volare – Special Forces Spirit! If you haven’t read my post of potential teasers I might do before, it is a military novel about the events surrounding a Special Forces soldier in China that has left his unit without any xianxia/supernatural/fantasy elements to it!

Chapter 23 – No time every time I ask you out

“****, did you cheat, why is your speed faster by mine by so much!” Chu Gao complained.

“Cheat your *** online! Don’t find some stupid excuse when you lost!” Zhang Tianyang said.

Hearing that, I knew that Chu Gao lost again. Thus, I said, “Chu Gao, actually StarCraft relies on tactics…” I told Chu Gao about the top class tactics I learnt in my previous life to Chu Gao, yet no matter what, he refused to believe me, since these tactics did not exist in this era.

I had originally wanted to take revenge for Chu Gao, but seeing that the time was already eleven thirty, and I had promised Zhao Yanyan and Chen Weier to wait at the school entrance at twelve, so there wasn’t enough time. Therefore, I could only agree with Zhang Tianyang to compete another day, while this fellow didn’t care at all.

Originally, I was already preparing to pay, but I accidentally overhead the sound of Zhang Tianyang making a call on the side. In this era, there were very few students with mobile phones, it wasn’t as popularized as it was later on. Only those with very rich families could afford mobiles, otherwise, even if they could buy it, the monthly fee of fifty kuai per month was still a lot. To ensure that we could contact conveniently, I bought Zhao Yanyan and Chen Weier a phone each, since they phone knew that I was rich, they didn’t object. Furthermore, since I didn’t like trouble, I just charged up ten thousand yuan of phone credit for them each.

“Hey… Chen Weier? I’m Zhang Tianyang… Do you have time this noon, let’s eat together… What? You have something to do? Why don’t you have time every time I ask you out? … Weier, I have been pursuing you for three years, give me a chance, don’t you not have a boyfriend? … What? You already have a boyfriend? Don’t lie to me, we have been classmates for three years, can you hide it from me! … Oh? Is that so, alright, then I’ll call you again tomorrow!” With that, Zhang Tianyang hung up.

Chen Weier? The same name? It can’t be that much of a coincidence, right? However, with Chen Weier’s looks, she should have plenty of pursuers. This Zhang Tianyang might just be one of them, however, his method of pursuing her was a bit shameless, with Chen Weier’s personality, even if I didn’t appear, she couldn’t possibly go out with him.

Since I had stuff to do during noon, I bid the brothers farewell beforehand. These people didn’t play enough yet, therefore, left earlier. When I went to pay, Chu Gao wouldn’t let me no matter what and said that they will pay together later. There was no helping it, I could only put my money back. It wasn’t much anyways, if I continued then it would have just ruined our relationship. As for Zhang Tianyang, since he couldn’t get the date, he was most likely getting annoyed, so he called something and hurried out of the internet café.

Before I got the school entrance, I saw Zhao Yanyan and Chen Weier standing far away. Chen Weier was one of the school beauties of Huaxia University already, and Zhao Yanyan was beyond beautiful, and was rumored to become the new top school beauty. The two beauties standing together naturally drew the admiring attention of many boys.

It seemed like if I went over there now, I could cause a commotion to arise. There was no helping it, I could only call a taxi first, then give Zhao Yanyan a call.

Not long later, Zhao Yanyan and Chen Weier got on the taxi. I pondered about calling Liu Yue these few days in order to buy a car, otherwise, us going out was too inconvenient. Liu Yue as already moved the headquarters of the car shop to the capital for more than a year, apparently, they were running pretty well. Although the interests were entered into my account every year as promised, I didn’t really care about such money, so I didn’t know exactly how much it was.

“Hubby!” After Zhao Yanyan and Chen Weier got on, they called out together. There were a lot of people in school, so they avoided it, but there was no one familiar now, so they had nothing to hide.

However, that taxi drawing was shocked with his mouth wide open after hearing it as he thought to himself, this is too crazy, it was crazy fortunate to get one of the two beauties, yet this brat actually got two!

The moment he thought about that old woman back home, he felt annoyed, what was good about this brat, isn’t he just a little handsome, what else is there! There was not a single branded piece of clothing on him! How was he supposed to know that although the clothes I wore weren’t of any brands, they were completely exorbitant!

Within the companies around the world that cooperated with Shuguang Corporation, a lot of the shareholders of those were royalty members, in order to please Shuguang Corporation, they would give quite a lot of pure handmade clothes, watch, and other daily products that were specifically made for royalty.

Since I was the chairman behind the scenes for Shuguang Corporation, Zhao Junsheng naturally put the focus on me and got a lot of things made with my measurements. Although these major shareholders did not know who it was made for, they had no need to ask, as long as their associate was happy, so were day, who cares who their associate gave it to.

However, the driver only complained in his heart, and didn’t dare to show it. After all, this was the capital Yanjing city, it was a place filled with rich and important people, who knows if this brat is the young master of a certain important family.

Last time, another taxi driver had got a customer in front of Huaxia University, the people that went on was a young man and two young girls wearing revealing clothing, just because he said something extra, the young man got pissed, then called a bunch of people to not only beat the person so he had to go to the hospital, they even trashed the car!

The taxi driver had wanted to call the police, but afterwards, he found out that the young man was the second young master of Daxing Gang! How would that person dare to call the police, he quickly ran away through the night. He knew that calling the police was useless, he could only get the people that hit him thrown in prison, but the other person could make him disappear off this planet at any time.

Seeing the weird expression on the driver’s face, I knew what he was thinking. Thus, I asked him, “What, jealous of me?”

The driver immediately realized his misconduct after hearing and quickly said, “Not jealous… Not jealous! Where would you like to do?”

“What do you want to eat?” I asked Zhao Yanyan.

“I don’t know either, let Weier-jiejie decide, she stayed in Yanjing city for two years, “Zhao Yanyan said.

“Then Weier, what are good things to eat around here?” I turned around and said to Chen Weier.

“I… I normally don’t go out and eat, I always eat in the canteen…” Chen Weier said quietly.

I understood Chen Weier’s personality, she would save as much as she can. Although I stored a lot of money into her card, this girlie probably barely used it.

I shook my head and suddenly got an idea, “Yanyan, how about the crayfish I took you to eat the last time we came to Yanjing city?”

“That’s great! I haven’t ate it for a long time! Weier-jiejie can eat spicy things, she definitely would like it!” Zhao Yanyan said.

Actually Zhao Yanyan had also trained her own ability to eat spicy food, since we often visited the Sichuan Restaurant that Weier’s family opened.

Chapter 22 – Gradual Process

To my surprise, Ouyang Tianqi immediately expressed his agreement, “Good, I haven’t gone on the internet for a long time, I’m going to check my email!”

As for Chu Goa, he actually said, “I haven’t played StarCraft for a long time, oh yeah, boss, do you play StarCraft?”

I faint, as expected of computing students, they even play StarCraft.

As for StarCraft —— It seems to be a bit too easy for me, I remember when I wasn’t studying, I would often run to the computer suite to play StarCraft.

“I play a little!” I said.

“That’s great, boss, I was just worrying about no one playing with me, let’s compete a bit!” Chu Gao said happily.

After we left the school gates, we saw the internet café Huang Wenjing talked about. The name “Flying Fish Internet Café” was really obvious. If I remembered correctly, this Flying Fish Internet Café would get bigger and bigger until it becomes the head of the capital’s internet café industry.

If I was choosing to start my own business now, an internet café wasn’t a bad choice. This industry had huge profits. A price of five yuan per hour would be able to get back all of the investments within half a year.

After paying the deposit, we chose a few computers that were beside each other and sat down. I had originally wanted to pay, but Chu Gao rushed forward first. It seems like the families of our dorm is rather rich. When Chu Gao took out his wallet, there was at least three thousand something kuai of cash in there.

“Chu Gao, ha, you came again?” At this moment, a short young man walked over.

“Zhang Tianyang, what, you can come, but I can’t?” Chu Gao said in annoyance.

“Haha, you can come, of course you can, I just thought you would be too embarrassed to! Loser!” Zhang Tianyang intentionally emphasized on the word “loser”.

Hearing that, Chu Gao’s face when sullen as he said, “Solo.”

“Even if we solo a hundred times, you would still lose! “Zhang Tianyang said in contempt.

“Boss, play for a bit, I’m going to solo him once!” Chu Gao said to me.

I needed to talk with Zhao Junsheng on the internet about the future development position of Shuguang, thus I said, “Sure! If you lose, then I’ll help you beat him!”

I didn’t think that what I said angered Zhang Tianyang. He said in rage, “Do you know who I am?”

“Aren’t you Zhang Tianyang?” I asked in confusion, while finding the situation rather funny.

“Since you know I’m Zhang Tianyang, you still dare to say that?” Zhang Tianwang also asked in confusion.

“Wait!” I interrupted him. I understood what this guy meant now. What he meant was that his name was known by everyone, so no one dared to speak to him like that. “I know that you’re Zhang Tianyang, but I just heard it from Chu Gao. I didn’t know you before!” I clarified.

The moment I said these words, Zhang Tianyang’s face went bright red, I had no idea whether it was due to rage or embarrassment. After a while, Zhang Tianyang finally said, “Then I’ll introduce myself, I’m the president of the StarCraft society at school. If you don’t accept it, then you can challenge me any time.”

Seeing his serious reply, I could only say, “I’m called Liu Lei, I’m in the same room as Chu Gao.”

Yet, Chu Gao got impatient, and said to Zhang Tianyang, “Are you done yet, solo or not?”

Zhang Tianyang glared at Chu Gao and muttered, “I’ve never seen anyone like you, being so anxious to taste failure.”

“Less ********, hurry up, I’ll create the game, come and find me!” Chu Gao said.

Meanwhile, I started chatting with Zhao Junsheng directly using the Shuguang Messenger that Shuguang developed.

I told Zhao Junsheng my thoughts about creating simple computer games. I remember, before I was reborn, which is essentially now, internet card games and chess games started getting popular. With the gigantic Shuguang Messenger user base, it was very easy to take over the casual games market! In these years, Shuguang become the number corporation in the world with my ideas, so Zhao Junsheng would execute out my thoughts. This time, it was no exception, after hearing my words, he immediately started a conference to talk about this.

We then chatted about some other things, every time my dad sees him, he would respectfully address him as Director Zhao, he really wasn’t used to it. That’s why he wanted me to get my dad to change, even if he doesn’t call him (Zhao Junsheng) qinjia, then even Xiao Zhao was fine!

Only after I responded by telling him that I’ll tell my dad about this, did Zhao Junsheng let me go/

After I went offline, another problem surfaced. Within these years, Shugaung Corporation has gotten bigger and bigger, completely displaying the truth to the logic of “the chicken lays eggs, the eggs hatches into chickens”, the entire corporation was like a rolling snowball, becoming larger and larger. The industries it got into were ones I never even imagined at the start. Some of the subordinate heavy construction companies in some African countries had gotten orders to produce military machinery for the local government Zhao Junsheng had turned my memories of my previous life into reality one by one.

I should be happy that Shuguang Corporation had developed! However, it’s because Shuguang Corporation as so huge, I was unable to imagine if my parents could accept it when I walk onto the stage as Shuguang Corporation’s chairman behind the scenes. Since that would be too extraordinary! I was even regretting that I did not tell my parents everything three years ago. Although Shuguang Corporation was very hard to accept back then, compared to know, I was afraid that if I told them everything, my parents couldn’t take it! After all, a person’s acceptance was limited!

This was like a poor person earning money day by day and finally becoming a billionaire, then it would be easy for him and his family to accept it. Yet, if he won the lottery and got rich overnight, they might become so worked up that they collapsed mentally!

In other words, everything needed a gradual process! However… How should I tell my parents now? The current Shuguang Corporation was no longer a gradual process! The only way was for Uncle Zhao to put Shuguang Corporation into my hands after Zhao Yanyan gets married to me! However, Uncle Zhao had not only once announced publicly that there was a true owner for Shuguang Corporation, this meant that Zhao Junsheng had no right to hand me the corporation!

I suddenly had an idea, that’s right, gradually!

If I start up a business now, then create a business empire that’s comparable to Shuguang Corporation, when I announce that I’m the owner of Shuguang Corporation behind the scenes, I believe that my parents would find it rather easy to accept it.

Since they witnessed the process of me creating a business, they would have had the mental preparation then, so they wouldn’t be too shocked!

Thinking that, I got happy again. Not bad! This definitely was a good idea!

All along, Shuguang Corporation was run by Zhao Junsheng, it could be said that I only provided some technological data and ideas! That’s why, it couldn’t be said that I established the company! I did want to carve out my own career as well, isn’t this a good opportunity!

Thinking that, I instantly relaxed a lot.

“How is it, Chu Gao, do you submit?” Zhang Tianyang said with a smug.

[Vol 1] Chapter 13

I sat back down on my futon as I lost myself to my thoughts.

If I consciously focused on my hand, I was able to perceive golden light emanating from it.

“I knew it, this is æther after all……”

It had an appearance of just an ordinary light, albeit golden in colour. But I felt as if the light was overflowing from my body.

It seemed to be somewhat similar to the aura that the Gargantuan Boar was wrapped in, although the colour was different.

Perhaps my encounter with the Monster somehow activated the ability to perceive æther in me. However, possibly as a side effect, I lost consciousness.

When I clenched my fist with all the strength I could muster, the intensity of the light from my wrist seemed to grow noticeably. After observing that, I was convinced that this golden light was æther after all.

But to clear any doubts, it would be better to cast a spell and actually check whether the light would react.

“But how do I use the æther from within me to cast a spell?”

I tilted my head as I thought about it. The grimoire had no mentions of a way to manipulate æther in the body for magic.

For now, I decided to try the invocations that I have been using the most, such as light magic, drying magic, fire…… If things get dangerous, I will revoke the spell.

After that I would use wind magic to fly up and hover, while strengthening my body.

While doing all that, I managed to figure out the trick to manipulating æther. All I had to do in order to use it was to gather it in a part of my body!

I could charge æther into an incantation by gathering it in my throat while chanting the spell. Just like that, the spell would be charged with æther.

I noticed that when using magic powered by my æther, the effects of the spell would more accurately reflect the image I had in mind.

Until now, when using『Ruby’s radiance』, I was able to start a fire, but not control its size or strength.

However, I was now capable of exercising more control as the strength and size of the spell effect was proportional to the amount of æther used to cast it.

Magic language gave form to the casters imagination using æther. Therefore, if you were skilled in manipulating æther, you could increase the power of your spells by two to three times.

By the way, if I tried to cast『Ruby’s radiance』with the image of a water ball in my mind, it would not activate. But if I cast『Ruby’s radiance』with the image of a 『Crimson fire』, it would work as the『Meaning of words』overlapped.

This meant that the『Meaning of words』was indispensable while casting magic.

I started to practice my magic skills by varying the amount of æther used in casting light spells. As a result, I was able to change the brightness of the light according to my desires.

Without a doubt, soon, I would be able to command magic as if it was my arm or leg.

Coming to think of it, I might be able to improve the spell incantations further. Till now, all I had been doing was chanting the ones written in the grimoire.

That was because the effects were fixed and thus the result of the spell was guaranteed.

I was afraid I might regret messing around with the spells and bringing about unwanted outcomes.

However, now that I could sense and perceive æther,  it should be possible to give『form』to the 『image』in my mind with chants that were shorter and hence, more efficient.

…… Also, having to chant those weird incantations was embarrassing, even if no one else could understand them.

Anyway, I’d start by making an original spell first.

If I can image it, that is……

“『Lantern』”

After chanting that, a ball of light materialized under the ceiling. Alright, it had reflected my『image』perfectly.

Seeing the white fluorescent light from my mind come to existence encouraged me a lot.

Ok, Let’s turn off the 『Lantern』 for now

“『Lights off』”

The ball of light disappeared.

This time, I’d try out another spell I have thought of.

“『Mini bulb』”

An orange ball of light lit up, though it was somewhat weak and unable to illuminate the room even at night. Nonetheless, I was satisfied that I could replicate 『images』in my mind.

It seemed like the effects could vary greatly in scope based on the amount of æther used alone.

For example, besides using wind magic to just blow on things, I could use it to raise or lower humidity in the room, increase or decrease the ventilation, or even hoisting someone up into the air…… Among other things.

I could even use magic to heal wounds I suffered to the back of my hand.

For the time being, I decided to not  cast any large-scale attack magic. I didn’t want the whole house turn into a charred bowl of soup.

While continuing to practice magic in my room, I suddenly felt a source of æther approaching it – a person perhaps?

It was almost like the æther the Gargantuan Boar was clad in, but it did not give off a bad feeling like the former.

Right when I moved my eyes towards the entrance door, it opened.

“Gerald-chan, are you awake……?”

The person peeking out the door was Mother. She was wrapped in an orange light・・・・・・・with a concerned expression while looking at me sitting on the futon.

“Ah, Okaa-san, sorry, was I too noisy?”

“Oh, no it’s not that. Are you feeling better? You slept for three days”

…… I was out for that long.

“Yeah. My body feels fine. There is no need for concern”

I stood up and jumped around to prove my point. Instantly, Mother ran up to me and hugged me, saying “I’m sorry”

She then placed her forehead against mine, while looking at me.

“Wha-, Okaa-san!?”

I stood up in surprise while my mother calmly said “Good, it seems your fever has subsided.”

I couldn’t help but be embarrassed by being treated like a child by Mother but still, I was very grateful for it.

Well, to be fair, my previous life’s Mother was so・・・I was not used to being treated like this and I was not sure how to respond.

“So? Do you want to eat?”

“Ah, that…… “

I was caught off guard by Mother’s question as I was still surprised by what happened just now. While I was scrambling for a reply, my stomach went guu.

Mother, while looking at me with a gentle face, smiled affectionately.

“Don’t worry about my stomach. Look, it is rumbling with energy!”

She smiled.

…… Ahh, I am so weak to her smile.

If Mother knew about this, I would be definitely made fun of by her. Definitely.

[Vol 1] Chapter 11

Original Translation can be found at RaisingTheDead.

The forest added to the darkness.
The sun shining in the sky is really starting to fall now as well.

Also…

“Haaaaa…..haaaaaaaa”

Father is nearly out of stamina.

“Father…”

Low stamina… well, that’s part of being an adult.

“Wh.. what is it Gerald? Your Father… haa… is just a bit out of shape.”

“I think it’s because you haven’t been doing any exercise.”

“That’s true, but exercise is hard! It would be nice to be able to boast about how fit I am, but I just can’t do it.”

“Ah, yes, yes, it’s such a hard thing. This coming from someone who’s exhausted.”

“Haaa… haaa, don’t try and think that this is someone else’s problem, Gerald. Your the son of Cecilia and I.”

Don’t say such a terrible thing with an air of superiority.
… for now, along with studying magic, and practicing reading and writing, I should also play a lot outside.

Still, I haven’t gotten exhausted after hiking, but we haven’t really gone that far.
…I should consider this as a warning about my physical strength, this thing Father called 『Adventure』.

“Well, it can’t be helped Father… 『Heaven’s defend this person with your divine protection.』”

I utter the incantation aimed at Father, and a magical light cover’s his body.

“Oh? What’s this? My body feels so light.”

“It’s magic to strengthen your body, Father. Can you keep walking like this?”

“Yes, um. Thank you, son. The azure stone! The star in the night!”

“You don’t need to praise me like that…”

By the way, when Father calls me the star at night, it’s because of my jet black hair and pupils. They are like the night, and I am my Father’s treasure, like a jewel. That’s why my Father call’s me his star at night.
Well, it’s fine. I don’t mind being called that.

…Mother says it sometimes as well.
It feels like a romanticised title when it comes from her.

Are they similar because they are a married couple? They are a good match.

“Let’s go, Gerald! Your mother should be waiting with some warm soup!”

“Oh, it looks like you’ve really got your energy back…”

I lowered my shoulders in amazement.
Then I furrowed my eyebrows because of a strange feeling. It felt like my skin was itchy, a similar sensation to the one I get when I use magic.

Just then…

“Ooooaaaaaaa, what is thaaaaaaat!?”

I heard Father yell.

“What’s wrong Father!?”

“It’s coming Gerald! A monster!”

Blocking the way in front of Father, there was a monster about twice his size.
I’ve never seen any monsters around this area, this one has an appearance like a wild boar covered in bluish fur.

Futhermore, the monsters body was wrapped in a mysterious bluish light. I’ve never seen a creature with it’s body wrapped in light like this.

It looks dangerous, something like 『a lower-class monster』 I think.

Father pulled out his wooden sword for self defence from his knapsack.

He holds it awkwardly, and springs at the monster.

“Eeeeeeeeeeeee!”

It’s a pitiful yell, but the wooden sword is swung at the enemy with a lot of spirit. However, it makes a cracking sound as it strikes the monster and breaks.

“Wh, what… this can’t be…”

Father lets out a small voice and staggers backwards as things happen different to what he expected.
Also, I think Father’s attack might have made it angry? The monster violently scratches the ground with it’s foot.

Crap.

“『Soul of heroes, rage of war, grant power and skill to my body.』”

When I used the spell, a golden light covered me and I felt my body fill with power.

This is a spell for physical strengthening. Unlike the one I put on Father, this one improves 『combat power』.

This raises endurance, strength, reflexes, and agility. It gives you enough power that you can outmatch even a soldier.

“Oraaaaaa….”

I charged out like a bullet at the same time as the monster put strength into it’s limbs.
I jump between Father and the monster, and block the monster with one hand.

“Oh.”

I strike it’s head with my other hand, and it’s skull shatters, killing it.
It would have been dangerous if I couldn’t use Japanese. We wouldn’t normally be able to win such a fight.

“Father, are you alright?”

“Um, ah…. I think so. That was amazing, Gerald!”

“Yes, I used magic to strengthen my body.”

As I speak, Father lets out a breath of relief.

“Thank you, I appreciate it. But… you can’t use that power in front of people from the village.”

“…it’s not good?”

“Even if you aren’t bad, there are people who will assume you are if they see that power.”

It feels like Father hasn’t finished yet.

“However, Cecilia and I, we know you’re not bad for using magic. I want you to know that.”

“…um. Thank you, Father.”

Not everyone in the world would be happy with this power.
But my heart is lifted because my Father, Mother, and Sierra won’t leave me.

…even though my father isn’t that good with his words.
Well, perhaps we’re the same in that regard. Like Father like son maybe?

[Vol 1] Chapter 10

Original Translation can be found at Jagaimo.

“Gerald, let’s go on an adventure!”

One morning.

During breakfast, my father suggested this.
――

Three months have already passed since I was able to use magic for the first time.
I remembered most of the incantations of the magic spellbook, and was able to warm the soup, or dry the laundry when it rained, and spent days helping in the house by preparing the firewood for cooking. During all of this, my father proclaimed “Let’s go on an adventure,” and the two of us went to the forest that day.

“…… rather than adventuring, it would be more accurate to call it hiking…”

While walking towards the grove between the trees, I murmured, the scene before me was much too idyllic to be considered an adventure.

“Exactly right!”

“I think I said what I meant.”

“Don’t worry about the small details. If I say it’s an adventure, then it’s an adventure.”

This father, he’s usually a steady and hard worker, but he often becomes strangely childish.

Well, I’m sometimes too serious, but I guess I’m just stubborn.

“Even so, why suddenly come here of all places?”

“Yeah? Well, I didn’t suppose you’d like it, Gerald. It’s actually kind of fun to walk around these places once in a while!”

So there doesn’t seem to be any particular reason. But I nod anyways at my father’s words. I’m ashamed to say this, but I don’t have any prior experience in hiking, not in my previous life. At best there was rock climbing at school.

That was not a fun memory, because I was floating around, alone, without any friends.
But now it’s different. When I look overhead, I can see the branches and leaves of the tree leave a shadow in the rays of the sun’s light. The light poured onto the ground and drew a mysterious shadow, like a painting directly drawn on the earth. The wind occasionally blows, not too cold nor too warm – just right. The fragrance of the forest permeates and fills my chest, and I breathe deeply. They say that magic fills the forests, and indeed, the air tasted and felt different to that which I usually breathed.

“Look, Gerald. Over there. There’s a bird over there.”

I was enjoying the scenery and looked there upon hearing my father’s words. Perched upon the branch that my father had pointed to with his finger was a small bird with blue feathers. I likely wouldn’t have noticed had I been walking by myself.
But since I was with someone who I was familiar with, I will know things I would otherwise never notice. It may be a somewhat splendid thing. It is a strange feeling that cheered me up, and so we walked the trails in this way.

“……Yeah. That’s right. How should I say… It’s good like this.”

My father nodded and eyed the unusual hue of the bird.

“Don’t you agree? I found that it’s important to try walking around leisurely, and you may make discoveries you can’t find in everyday life. And around here, it’s rare for demons to wander, unlike around a dungeon. Even if I fought a demon of the lowest grade, I could only deal a little damage to it.”

“Dungeon? Is there such a place?”

Hearing the word ‘dungeon’, I unconsciously asked this.

“Of course. That is to say… wait, no. For the time being, sit.”

We came to an opening in the road.

I put my rucksack on the ground and sat in a suitable location.
I took a water canteen and some snacks from inside the bag, and was accompanied by my father who told me about the dungeons.

“Now. Where should I start?”

Father’s story began. In different parts of the world there are things called dungeons.

There, demons who harm humans are born, and every day they attack neighboring towns and villages. In the old days there was a powerful family of witches who were known as the the “Seal Appointing Individuals.” Even if they were able to wound them, regardless of what the humans did, they could not defeat the demons, so instead they decided to seal the demons. The sites sealed by the “Seal Appointing Individuals” were the precursors to today’s dungeons. Once the seal weakened and changed due to the malice of that which was sealed within, it changed shape into a dungeon, and demons were born there. It is said that the creatures called demons were born in order to attack mankind.
By the way, the things known as “Mazoku” is generally a Seal Appointing Individual, while “Mamono” [demon] indicates the kind of monster that spawns within a dungeon.

“It was immediately obvious that with only the the knights and soldiers, the country would be unable to cope with the monsters. Therefore, the country established the adventurer system. By going on adventures to the dungeons with other adventurers, they were able to curb the threat posed by the demons.”

“In other words, the country prepared towns and attracted people out there?”

“Yes. In addition, they attracted ruffians and criminals. There seems to also be some magicians.”

In that way it is said that the people who gathered came in order to hunt demons to gain rewards for their mercenary work.

“Of the adventurers, the achievements of the magicians are overwhelming. They can kill many demons with large-scale wide range offensive magic, instantly killing those that a sword or spear couldn’t pierce. So for a magician, their true vocation would be an adventurer.”

“……But, isn’t it dangerous?”

My father nods at my words.

“Of course it’s dangerous. However, we are constantly collecting information about the demons. If you aren’t prepared and are reckless, it is easy to die.”

Information seems to be paramount, regardless of the time and place.

Seeing this, I was convinced.

“But, well, I don’t really yearn to be an adventurer.”

“Really? I thought you’d be attracted to the adventures and romance, son.”

“But father. Do you think we should try an adventure in the dungeon?”

“Of course we shouldn’t. Above all else, you are my most important treasure. And our home is the jewelry box for it to go in.”

Though I make a “Doya” face, my father has put some consideration into this… “By the way, we have been talking for a while. Let’s go home before it gets too late. When it gets too late, Cecil gets upset, and it’s hard to put her in a good mood every night.”

Is it a story in bed at night? Why do you need to put her in a good mood? …..For the time being I don’t want to imagine too much.

[Vol 1] Chapter 9

Original Translation can be found at Priddles Translations.

While I was busy with my thoughts…

“Hellooooo~! Gerald-chan!”

Mother appeared carrying a tray with a cup of water. My younger sister Sierra was sticking close to her. The 2 year old Sierra, who hadn’t been weaned yet, had learnt to walk and talk.

“All that’s left is to graduate from breast milk,”

Mother sometimes says with a wry smile. Sierra had yet to meet her expectations.

“Hellooooo~! Niitan ⌈1⌋!” she giggled.

So cute!

Unlike Mother’s hair which was an autumn leaf brown, Sierra had beautiful chestnut brown hair. Her inquisitive reddish-brown eyes darted about, her adorable lips curled into a smile.

It was no doubt what you would call an innocent smile. Simply watching her was enough to make me happy.

“Niitan, niitan!”

she cried out, waddling over on unsteady legs. The sight of her arms reaching out, wobbling left and right as she staggered over brought a smile to my face.

I was overcome with the desire to protect her. I felt – how do I describe it – like something warm was filling up my heart. Her presence alone brought others joy.

What could it possibly be? What is this cute creature?

It’s so cute!

“Sierra, just a bit further. Come on, Oniichan is here!”

Without noticing, as Sierra approached me I ended up calling out encouragingly. Since I was slightly bent over while cheering Sierra on, she ended up snuggling face first into my stomach. She smelt like baby milk.

Oh-my-god-such-a-seriously-cute-so-cute-super-cute-creature.

“Amazing! You did great walking so far!”

I praised her with much enthusiasm. It’s amazing for a 2 year old to walk so far! ⌈2⌋ She made it to me all the way from the back door!

If that isn’t cute, then what is? I grinned. I wonder why the particular way a child’s face lights up as they smile is so captivating.

I squeezed Sierra in my arms. She’s SO soft…

What a delightful creature. I want to keep hugging her close and go back to sleep. I wish they sold body pillows like this.

“Oww, niitan it hurts!”

“Ah, sorry. Was I squeezing you too much?”

“No, it’s okay to squeeze more!”

This is dangerous. My brain is about to short circuit. So cute! After hugging her tightly again Sierra hugged me back. Ahh, I can’t let her marry anyone.

You need to be oniichan’s wife, oniichan’s. ⌈3

I won’t hand her over to anyone.

Without question!

And so, while I was busy rubbing my cheek on Sierra like a cat,

“Here’s the water. You worked pretty hard today, didn’t you?”

“Err…yeah, thanks. I wanted to test a lot of incantations, so I can use them properly.”

When I conveyed that I didn’t want to make any mistakes like before, Mother returned an affectionate smile.

“I’m glad. I’d rather not waste any food, you know.”

“Yeah…me too. I don’t want to waste the food you cook either. It’s so delicious!”

“Oh dear, still a child and already so good at flattery.”

“D-don’t call me a child!”

But it’s true, Mother’s cooking is honestly delicious. I hadn’t eaten such delicious food even in my past life. Certainly, since it was a farming village the food was bland and there was no gourmet cooking.

Yet, taste isn’t determined purely by the ingredients and technique. I believe who cooked the food is equally as important. There’s nothing quite like a mother’s cooking. So I absolutely refuse to waste such food again.

“Sierra too! Sierra wants water too!” ⌈4

Sierra complained next to me, interrupting my secret vow. It looks as if Princess Sierra greatly desires some water.

“Okay, okay. Have half of mine.”

I answered and handed her my half empty cup. But then, Sierra was about to drink when the cup slipped out of her hands. The water spilled from the cup, soaking her clothes.

“Ah.”

“Oh no…you’re drenched,” Mother and I cried out.

“No choice. Sierra, let’s go change.”

“No, it’s okay. I can dry it now.”

I said and pointed my palm towards Sierra’s wet clothes. Mother looked at me concerned.

“Gerald-chan…”

“Yes?”

“Sierra isn’t like soup; we can’t lose her. If by any chance you…you understand right?”

“It’s alright, I won’t. I guarantee it’s safe this time!”

“Really?”

“Really!”

“I’m trusting you, okay?”

“It’ll definitely be alright!”

“Nothing will go wrong?”

“There won’t be any problems!”

“…really?”

“Like I said, it’ll be alright!”

“I’m trusting you, okay?”

“I’m 100% sure about this!”

“…nothing will go wrong?”

“Nothing will go wrong! How long are you planning to do this?! Didn’t we just repeat ourselves?! Scary!”

For a moment, I saw a future where we continued to the end of time. I cleared my throat, breaking the infinite loop.

“It’ll be fine, look. Drive away the dampness, the abominable clamminess!”

A warm breeze was released from my palm, instantly drying Sierra’s damp clothes. The effect of this ridiculous incantation was to dry things. It had the power to dry wet things.

With this, it was possible to quickly dry clothes even if it’s raining. If the washing line was inside, it won’t become humid and would prevent the clothes from smelling.

“Amazing, Gerald-chan! I believed you could do it!” Mother exclaimed overjoyed.

She was excited like a child. I didn’t know whether to feel proud or insulted by her reaction, due to her lack of confidence not so long ago.

“Niitan is amazing!”

Yep, Sierra was still innocent and cute. So adorable. What a wonderful creature.

“That’s weird, I was sure Mother was extremely skeptical before.”

“That was your imagination.”

“My imagination, huh?”

“Of course. There’s no way I wouldn’t believe in Gerald-chan. You’re my child!”

I couldn’t help but smile wryly.

It was very much like something Mother would say. So much so, that I was almost fooled by it. Maybe it’s inevitable that I’ll always fall for her tricks.

“Come on you two, let’s have dinner. I’m starving!”

“Me too.”

“Sierra too! Sierra’s hungry too!”

Holding hands, Sierra and I followed Mother inside.

  1. Oniisan -> Niichan -> Niitan, for those of you who haven’t seen this before.
  2. No, it’s not. In fact, you should be worried she’s developing so slowly.
  3. sigh
  4. In Japan, it’s common to find children referring to themselves by name (instead of using a pronoun).

It’s been half a month since ‘the case of the burnt soup’.

Reflecting on my mistake, I decided that I should confirm the power level ⌈1⌋ of the spells in the grimoire. At any rate, I was far too excited. In spite of being a five year old child in this world, it was still quite embarrassing since I used to be 19 years old in my past life.

Even if no one knows that apart from me…

At the very least, I should act a little more like an adult. Magic carries a potentially deadly might. Nevertheless, I had the confidence to handle these spells, whatever their effects.

The magic language is Japanese, and I was formerly Japanese.

There’s no way I couldn’t use magic.

However, as easy as it was to use, I was far from being a master. My first step towards mastery should be to find out what effects an incantation manifests.

And I knew the quickest and easiest method to do so; cast all the spells and record their effects.

“Okay.”

I left the house through the back door and opened the grimoire. On the page, a variety of spells were written in kanji and hiragana. Although I had read it through from start to finish, I had only experimented with 10 incantations.

In all seriousness, how am I supposed to know in what situation I should use ‘Mr Careless’?

I learnt from burning the soup how scary it can be not knowing the effects of a spell; not to mention a spell whose effects I can’t predict at all. No matter what, I will not let the soup’s sacrifice be in vain.

“I guess I’ll practise.”

If nothing else, I should at least try out all the incantations I’m not sure about. I even came to the backyard, just in case.

The backyard was a substantially spacious space. There weren’t any trees or houses, just a large empty expanse. It should reduce the chances of any accidents occurring. Also, it was hidden from the other houses in the village, making it the perfect spot for me to practise unseen.

Just because I’ve been accepted by my parents, I can’t say the other villagers will too. Hence, I decided that it would be better to hide my powers.

“Okay, let’s start with this one…”

⚪ ⚪ ⚪

It was getting dark.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead and took a deep breath. Naturally, while I managed to test a lot of incantations, casting spells repeatedly really tired me out.

Even though I was still at the stage of using the surrounding æther to fuel my magic, chanting incantations all day is fairly tiring. At least it didn’t consume my internal æther as well, to say nothing of the fact that my body was merely 5 years old.

There’s no way it wouldn’t wear me out. In particular, my throat was parched. I needed water as soon as possible.

“Hah…hah…wheeze ⌈2⌋…”

At the moment, I was still unable to sense æther or manipulate my internal æther at will.

I hope I’ll be able to soon. No, I will learn to sense æther.

Once I figure it out, I’ll probably be on the way to becoming a great magician.

“Eurgh…this is bad, I’m so tired…”

I fell flat on the ground, panting. Even though I was exhausted, it felt good. I was filled to the brim with a sense of accomplishment and was about to fall asleep. I can’t fall asleep yet though.

I discovered several things during today’s experiments.

First and foremost, the effects and power of the incantations written in the grimoire. Despite the many cryptic and unclear incantations, I was able to determine their effects just by using them.

Next, I uncovered the relationship between an incantation and the resulting spell. In a nutshell, spells manifest according to their incantations ⌈3⌋. If you say ‘burn’, it burns. If you say ‘freeze’, it freezes.

In ‘the case of the burnt soup’, I said ‘burn to nothingness’ and that was probably why the soup was burnt to cinders.

“Oh, so, if I had said ‘heat up the soup’ instead of ‘burn to nothingness’…”

I imagined that, at that time, my magic was smiling at me and said,

“I burnt it to nothingness!”

My mind stalled on the image of ‘flames of purgatory heating stuff up’ and entirely disregarded the ‘burn to nothingness’ part. If I had said ‘with the flames of purgatory, heat it up’, it probably would have been completely different…

Though I should have noticed straight away that something was wrong with such a dangerous word as ‘purgatory’.

I was totally and utterly taken with the fact that I could use magic.

In reality, nothing goes well when you get carried away.

I was lucky that only the soup got burnt. I shiver just thinking that I could have burnt my family to ashes instead. I now keenly understood how an incorrect incantation can result in manifesting unintended phenomena.

I need to carefully consider my phrasing…

Also, whether it’s because of this relationship between spells and their incantations, there are multiple incantations that result in the same spell. For example, if I chant ‘O flames’ a flame will materialise. In the same way, ‘O flammable robes that cover the sun’ ⌈4⌋ will also materialise a flame.

Obviously, covering the sun with flammable robes will end with a fire ⌈5⌋, and it suggests that incantations with the same nuance will have identical effects.

However, ‘in this place, show me a ruby’s radiance’ also materialised a flame. This is just a guess, but it could be because when I imagined a ruby’s radiance, I imagined a brilliant red flame.

I haven’t figured out how the image, the magic language and æther work together, but it should be safe to assume that a spell is cast by directing æther with the magic language according to an image you hold in your mind. As a result, it should be possible for a flame to appear with the words ‘ruby’s radiance’.

That said, no matter how impressive an incantation may be, a simple chant like ‘O flames’ is far more practical.

“Whatever, I’ll just use these incantations for now.”

With a basic grasp on the laws of magic, I can potentially make my own original incantations. However, it’s more important to learn to sense æther first.

I can come up with incantations later.

  1. It’s a valid translation!
  2. I am surprised to say, wheeze is a legitimate onomatopoeia.
  3. No way?! How is this possible?!
  4. I’m having a hard time deciding which is worse, flammable robes or abominable clamminess…
  5. No, I’m pretty sure it just vaporizes way before you get close.
