It feels like it’s been eons since I started work on this novel.
In fact it’s been almost three years, seriously that’s a scary number to think about isn’t it?
We’ve gone through a lot together, you readers and I.
Mostly a myriad of translators.
You should all be thankful for my consistency.
And if you think about I’ve only missed like… four uploads in that time?
Okay well, a few more than that were late.
I think that’s a win though.
Anyway, let’s look forward to like… at least a thousand more chapters together.
Chinese web authors are different breed of writer I swear.
The hardest part of managing commissions is when the batch is nearing completion and you need to start planning the next.
For budget reasons I like planning ahead, but the downside of that is I always miss my chance for spontaneous commission openings.
But if I keep money in reserve for spontaneous commission openings it means betraying the artists I regularly support.
Woe is the life of a commissioner.
Actually I need to contact an artist about some art I want done in the future.
I guess it’ll be easier to ask them about the price now rather than later.
Tonight is an eclipse night.
Sadly for me the eclipse is at about 5am, and I need to wake up at 7am, so no chance for me to see it.
I’d sacrifice seeing it properly to see it earlier, since it roughly starts around 2am.
But it’s almost 1am now and it’s raining.
Typical Britain, can’t have anything nice here.
Well that’s life, anyway let’s get to the chapter, we left off on a massive cliffhanger didn’t we last week.
So let’s explain what my excitement was about earlier.
Basically I commissioned some artwork of my character from a relatively popular artist on twitter.
And today was the day they were going to send me the concept sketches and they arrived!
This was just the basic pose for the piece, but I think it’s great.
They’ve captured a good mix of beautiful and sexy. As she’s basically turning back to face the viewer while standing in front.
Though half of that is because the pose work doesn’t include any clothes so…
Next up in fact is the outfit, which will be entirely original but heavily themed on Xenoblade’s science-fantasy aesthetic.
At the time I am writing this I am expecting the first concept sketch from a famous artist that I commissioned.
I am very excited for this.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with for my character.
Like seriously.
So excited.
The only problem is that I don’t know if I will be able to sleep.
And then if I don’t sleep, I might end up oversleeping when they send me the sketches.
That’d be suffering!
In the time it took me to edit they sent me the sketch!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
That is a squee of joy.
I’ll discuss it in the next pre-chapter ramble.
The new Stellaris DLC is out.
I almost bought it straight away.
But I think I might hold out until the end of the month, just to be safe.
Or maybe I will buy it on my birthday this Thursday.
I opened up these two chapters to edit and was like “holy hell, we reached Chapter 64 already?”
I’m not sure why that was such a shock to me but it is apparently.
I must have totally tuned out for a dozen chapters and not realised we ever went over fifty or something.
So I mentioned a new art commission last ramble, time to elaborate on that!
This brings the total number of commissions I’ve made this month up to 6, with a total of 8 expected to be delivered in the next month.
That’s a lot of money.
In fact about 1300 dollars worth! Yes it’s a lot.
One of those commissions was actually made months ago, but the world situation is a bit of a mess for that artist so I can’t fault them.
And one piece I’m expecting to be delivered this month isn’t technically a commission but more of an extra birthday gift from an artist I regularly work with.
It’s going to be an absolutely packed month for art deliveries that’s for sure, one commission has been received, but the other 7 are mostly mysteries.
So last night I made the final (final) commission as part of my birthday month art commission.
I got a popular Xenoblade fanartist to draw my character Eleanor in a Xenoblade style.
The original intention was to get an Eva style plugsuit, but I changed to general scifi and Xenoblade after observing their art.
It’s not too different either way, they both have that technological feel.
I’m sure she can pilot a mech either way.
I’m looking forward to the first sketch in about a week.
Apparently in non-UK parts of the world it is Mother’s Day as I prepare to post this.
Obviously it’ll be long over by the time this goes live.
I found that funny because the MILF was introduced in Otome Mob’s anime today.
I’m actually editing this a few hours earlier than I usually do.
I’m looking forward to an early night honestly.
I did a lot of random household stuff today earlier than usual, and I have fresh bedsheets.
Those are always nice.
Well basically, I’m just trying to make sure I have every comfort possible for going back to work tomorrow after my first negative feedback session.
Starting work is hard honestly. If I didn’t need the money for my hobby I really wish I didn’t have to.
So hello everyone!
For those who are new here they won’t know, for regulars of my rambles who will know, hello again.
But I have a set of original characters based on a novel that I am definitely not writing despite how often I call it my novel.
Well anyway, today I got the final version of the character sheet for the main heroine.
So for those who don’t know, that’s Princess Eleanor Pendragon, although I call her the main heroine, she’s less a heroine in the damsel sense and more of the deuteragonist.
Anyway, for those curious you can look at her sheet HERE. Look I’ve linked it for you.
The hardest part of now publishing three different stories is that I have to try and keep three different mental tracks of topics I’ve spoken about.
Like if I was to start talking about my new job without context it’d make no sense to the new readers unless they were also reading my other projects.
So, if I start a pre-chapter ramble with someone that has no context, just assume that I forgot to manage my tracks right.
Anyway today I played FTL for the first time in just under a decade.
I was back in school last time I played, on my cheap laptop, on a friends couch.
One of the artists I was on the waiting list for has been forced to cancel my commission.
It’s a little upsetting, but I completely understand their position.
I have been on the list for over half a year now, and their list isn’t getting any smaller between their free time, official work and commissions.
It’s sad because I was looking forward to it, but also, the concept I had set aside for them to work on has now been freed up for someone else to work on without me having to wait and hope.
I thought things were going well but it turns out I’m rather struggling to adapt to working.
My mindset of trying to avoid problems and getting in peoples way is causing me to get experience slowly.
And due to my lack of experience and trying to avoid getting in the way, they’re perceiving me as slacking off.
I can see why it would appear that way, because I am trying to hide away from everyone else, but the reasoning is backwards.
I’m not hiding to slack off, I’m slacking off because I can’t find things to do without getting in the way.
And the one task they did deliberately assign me I apparently took too long doing, and I’m still not entirely sure how I could have done it faster.
I have six months of placement time guaranteed but I definitely think I will be going back to job hunting after this, and as it stands my anxiety for working has only increased.
