“Nothing major happened while I was gone, right? Is everyone okay?”

“We’re… fine. No casualties.” He answered sheepishly while avoiding eye contact with the lioness.

“That’s great. In that case, it’s time to head back to the hot spring inn. But before that, there’s somewhere we need to visit.”

I tactfully pretended not to notice his little exchange with the lioness, and had the lioness lead the way instead.

Naturally, the place I was referring to was the Shamanta Trade Center, where there were still some survivors I had to pick up before heading back to the inn.

With the lioness leading the way, any undead who dared to even show as much as a strand of hair on their head were instantly swatted to death. Whether they were skeletal beasts or zombies, none lasted more than a tenth of a second.

We travelled in a direct line towards the trade center, rescued the survivors holed up there, then left in the direction of the inn.

“I’m back!”

I called out excitedly while retracting my wings as I descended from the skies into the inn’s courtyard.

A green-haired girl was the first to look up and spot me. Bitong’s eyes narrowed for a second before she spread her hands out and ran towards me. “Welcome back!”

“Sis… you don’t have to pinch my face everytime we meet…”

“His Highness is back? Welcome back, your Highness.”

“Big brother!”

Upon hearing my voice, Lixiang and Qiaoqiao rushed out of the room they were resting in.

“You guys…”

“Hey, you two, behave yourselves!”

“Qiaoqiao is talking to her big brother right now, can those two older sisters over there have the self-awareness to give us some privacy?”

“Can’t you see that his Highness is in pain? Loosen your grip, right now, before his Highness starts hating you.”

“The one who should be letting go is you two! Qiaoqiao, let go this instant! And Lixiang, too…”

“But Qiaoqiao hasn’t seen big brother for a whole day, Qiaoqiao doesn’t want to let go! Why must sister Bitong always separate the two of us? Bad sister!”

“Hmph, harems…” Floater passed by us at that instant, then left after a derisive snort.

“Stop fighting for a second… I brought a lot of survivors with me this time… now be good, and stop tugging on my clothes!” I finally raised my voice. “We can talk about this later, but right now, I have important matters to take care of!”

“Okay…” Startled out of their willingfulness, the girls obediently, but unwillingly, let go of me.

Phew… saved at last…

Now that the girls were settled down, I began recounting what happened throughout the day.

“So we have almost a hundred survivors joining us?” Bitong was the first to grab the crux of the situation, as always. “Seems like lodging will have to be the first problem we solve. Thankfully, the inn has quite a number of empty rooms. But the night patrols have to be adjusted as well…”

“Your Highness, have there been any sightings of other alchemical factories?” Lixiang’s eyes glowed with anticipation, eagerly awaiting a chance to show her skills once more.

Unfortunately, all she got was a confused look from me. “Alchemical factory?”

“An alchemical factory is where you manufacture magical tools.” Lixiang answered seriously.

“So you mean a weapons factory where they manufacture exosuits…”

“An alchemical factory, not a scientific one.”

“Fine, fine.” While Lixiang might seem like an introvert, she was actually quite competitive. Her goal had always been to prove her worth and secure herself a leading position in our team. To be exact, she wanted to prove herself to me and secure her place in my heart.

“We can talk about that later, the survivors will be here soon.” I said to Lixiang while patting Qiaoqiao on the head. Ambushed by the legendary head pat, all the little girl could do was close her eyes and enjoy the patting silently.

I had the girls prepare the area for the survivors. In the meantime, I grabbed Floater along as a welcoming squad for the survivors who were barely a kilometer away now.

Upon arrival, the survivors were immediately greeted by a conspicuously large, black, and downright ghastly looking monster made out of bones. Which had the unfortunate effect of scaring some of the more timid survivors.

Naturally, I explained to them that it was already dead.

The arrival of new survivors was great news for everyone, in general. At the very least, it showed that other humans were still alive in the city… as long as one held hope, all was not lost.

The time now was nearing seven in the evening. Dinner was handled by the survivors from the cafe, and I took this opportunity to have the two officers, Ouyang Huiren and Sima Junmo, gather in the room I was staying in temporarily for a quick meeting.

Other than the three of us, Lixiang and Floater were in attendance as well.

Bitong and Qiaoqiao were busy preparing dinner and allocating the rooms.

“Ahem, I called everyone here to discuss the matter of night patrols.”

Ouyang had 26 soldiers under him, 27 if the count included himself. Sima Junmo had 4 other soldiers under him; those were the survivors left in his squad. Adding on Floater, the ace pilot, we had over 30 soldiers at our disposal.

They weren’t much in the grand scheme of things, but more than sufficient for the purposes of self-protection.

Those unpredictable ghosts were a problem, but with an unending supply of talismans, they shouldn’t cause too much trouble.

“Night patrols shouldn’t be a problem with our current numbers. I had a quick look just now. We have over 30 soldiers, and not that many survivors to look after. As long as we keep them all situated within the same vicinity, patrolling shouldn’t be hard.” Sima Junmo was the first to state his opinions. Having done that, he gave me a wink. “Lady Mo Ke, how should the teams be split up?”

“I have no opinions on this matter, do you guys have any suggestions?”

As I said, I had no experience in matters of the army, so it was best to seek their advice.

“Barring any need for exploration in the day, two shifts should suffice.” Of the two, Ouyang Huiren had more experience with my current strength, thus he made his suggestions accordingly. “The goal should be to ensure Lady Mo Ke’s rest time.”

Ghosts were afraid of daylight, excluding some special circumstances, their activity would be limited to the period from ten till daylight.

Patrols were just to ensure that there weren’t any other undead ambushes. The sudden increase in survivors was the main reason why we couldn’t just rely on talismans as we did before.

Chapter 744: Lion’s Majesty

The moment I turned my mind towards raising my maximum SP count, system lady dinged me in her typical, helpful fashion. Really, is there even a better system than her?

“Being a kind and thoughtful system, your system has one more service to recommend to our valued host. SP enhancement. SP enhancement is a service where your system directly increases your max SP, even without cultivation. The exchange rate is still 10:1. Call 1008 now to… Oops, wrong sales pitch… If our valued host wishes to employ this feature, our valued host merely has to deposit the required points.”

Me! Me! Me! I’ll take it!

I had 7509 points left, of which I immediately traded 6400 to raise my SP by 640. Including my original 60, my max SP had finally crossed the 700 mark!

Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming, my max SP has actually increased tenfold in just one day!

With anticipation in my heart, I summoned the Shadow Guardian first, then began reciting the chant to summon my Inferno Lion.

O Lion’s Majesty… By my command, bless thy emissary with new life… Come forth… burn all that stands before me to nothingness!

Instantly, I felt my newly enlarged SP pool drain out into the Epic-grade accessory on my left hand.

A gigantic vortex of fire began to swiftly coalesce in front of me. Then as if it was a giant dimensional door, a raging claw of fire dragged itself out of the vortex. Just from its thick, bulging muscles of fire, I could already tell this was a true monster to be reckoned.

Just its name alone was enough to conjure an image of a proud lion king.

Now, come on out, show me that proud lion face of yours! Hold on… where’s the mane?

A lion without a mane… isn’t that a lioness?

“Bingo, too bad there’s no prize for being right.”

But why did I end up summoning a lioness?

“Your system never said it would be a lion, right? Besides, what’s wrong with a lioness? Did that lioness steal your food? Did it steal your wifi? That lioness can help you fight just as well, you’re just being sexist!”

What do you mean sexist? That’s not even a human! Bah. Killing those zombies is more important. Those are walking, rotting sacs of points, right there!

The three fire elementals had been highly lethal, thus far. Every swipe they took, a point was banked. The Shadow Guardian was a lot less direct in its attacks, or perhaps unpredictable would be a better description. Its limbs would elongate and shorten. At times, it would grow wider and at times it would turn as thin as a needle. Regardless, those zombies did not stand a chance at all.

Yet neither of them displayed the same ferocity as my newly summoned lioness. With a flip of its maneless head, it sent forth a sea of flames at the zombies… Now that’s some efficient area-of-effect point farming!

More importantly, the sheer density of the zombie horde meant that I was in point heaven right now.

As always, fire magic had proven why it was the most destructive magic, whether it was its shocking firepower, or its overwhelming area of effect.

Every strike of the lioness carried with it unimaginable force. Like an endless machine gun, it tossed out spells that raked in points by the hundreds.

Watching it clear the field like that, I decided just to recall my Shadow Guardian. Why even bother wasting those precious points?

As I basked in the destructive glory of my lioness, I purchased a bottle of SP recovery and downed it like a soda. All I needed now was a cup of popcorn to complete the experience.

System, I have a question.

I thought summoning an inferno lion only required 500 SP? So why did I still get sucked dry, despite having 700 SP?

“500 is the minimum amount required to summon an inferno lion in its sealed up state. With our valued host’s current pool, there is nowhere enough SP to summon it out in its strongest form.”

Is that so? So how strong is it in its strongest form?

“Very.”

And how very is that very? Compared to a mobile armor?

“Valued host, as esteemed as you are, you shouldn’t compare your inferno lion to a mere toy like that.”

Toy?! They are extremely powerful, I’ll have you know!

“And those powerful machines were just toyed around with by a bunch of ghosts yesterday.”

I was promptly reminded of the scene of how those ghosts passed right through their armor to murder the pilots within.

That was just… an accident. Fine, they are toys then! But those ghosts clearly had the advantage there. If they were forewarned, those ghosts wouldn’t have been able to get away with such a daring attack!

“Perhaps. But even if ten of those machines were face off against your inferno lion in their strongest forms, they still wouldn’t stand a chance.”

That strong?

“Your system only recommends the best of the best. Oh valued host, you have no idea how many more interesting tools your system has in storage. You’d better prepare points while you can. Don’t come crying when you find yourself too poor.”

I will.

She was right. In order to afford the more powerful tools in the Marketplace, I had to accumulate more points.

With the aid of my summons, I easily cleared up the entire fifth floor of the park. In an avalanche of sudden wealth, my total point count rose to a staggering 89757, of which half was eaten up by my system in the name of repaying my debts…

Should I clear the remaining four floors as well?

Maybe not. It’s getting late now, and I should head back before the girls get worried.

I took the spiralling staircase upwards to find Ouyang and the others already waiting for me.

The lioness was the first to appear. When it broke surface for the first time, it roared into the skies, as if to celebrate the joy of being under the sun once more. Ouyang and the survivors, on the other hand, nearly jumped out of their skins.

“Don’t worry, that’s just my summon.” At the same time that Ouyang and his soldiers took aim at the lioness, I dashed out from behind her. “Don’t shoot, we’re on the same side.”

“Oh, it’s just Lady Mo Ke. Gave me a fright there… I thought it was some new monster.”

“ROAR!”

The lioness seemed to have understood his words. It glared at the man and growled, as if to show its displeasure.

“Sor-ry…”

Ouyang was quickly apologised and even lowered his head. Given how massive the lioness was, I didn’t blame him for being so submissive. But, honestly, it was kind of comical to see a manly man like him act so meekly.

Chapter 743: I’ll Cover the Rear

“Mmm?” Chiyo Hanataba slowly opened her eyes to look at me. Her first reaction was of surprise, then confusion, before finally greeting me, “Lady Mo Ke?”

I quickly pulled back from her and pretended to scratch my head. “I was trying to wake you up. Yup, just waking you up.”

“Oh.”

She eyed me suspiciously.

Geez, I was really just trying to wake you up. Honest… There’s no need to give me that look…

Following her example, the rest of the survivors began to awaken as well.

“I had a weird dream…”

“Me too… And why are we standing atop these trunks?”

“Did we all faint together?”

“My head hurts…”

“Lady Mo Ke, what happened?” Ouyang Huiren drove his exosuit up to us. “Where’s Yamabe Takuma?”

“Ouyang, a lot has happened since you were knocked out, I’ll briefly explain it to you.” I opened up with a sigh, and with a heavy voice, said, “Actually, you were all under the control of Yamabe’s ability, and almost became his accomplices. But everything is alright now, Yamabe is dead.”

“We were all hypnotised? Really?” Ouyang sounded incredulous as he said that.

“Why would I lie to you? I have video proof as well, here you go.”

Due to Aunty Xinqing’s insistence, I never stopped recording, so Yamabe’s betrayal was an indisputable fact. No amount of lawyering would change that. Assuming there was even a court left in Southern Plains.

Just as I sent the video to Ouyang Huiren, the shrill screams of the female survivors pierced the air… That sound… it’s practically a weapon of mass destruction.

“Those monsters are waking up!”

“There’s too many of them…”

“No… no… don’t come near me…”

The zombie hill started to stir without any warning. The sight was indescribably revolting. Imagine for a second, countless rotting corpses flailing about in a giant, putrid mosh pit, falling over each other as they climbed towards the survivors. The zombies above would fall over and roll down onto the zombies below them. This domino effect continued all the way down to the base level, resulting in the impression of the entire hill itself crawling towards us like a writhing mass of insects.

“Everyone get ready, we’re leaving, immediately!” Due to the urgency of the situation, I held nothing back as I yelled at Ouyang Huiren, “Gather your men and protect those survivors. There are only ordinary zombies up the stairs, so you guys can just leave!”

“What about you?”

“I’m staying behind, of course.”

“Lady Mo Ke, are you serious? How can we let an unarmored girl like you cover our rear? That’s suicidal! I refuse!”

“Are you sure that’s suicidal?” Then without waiting for him to say a word, I pulled out Icy Inferno from my inventory and swung a mighty wave of fire and ice sword energy towards the zombie hill, splitting it in two, right there and then…

“Uwah…” Everyone was stupefied by the collapsing zombie hill and the sword which rend it asunder with just one swing. The look they gave me right now was one normally reserved for a monster…

“Do you still think it’s suicidal?”

I smiled at Ouyang, who was currently running through a myriad of emotions. Satisfied by his reaction, I gave myself a little pat on the back and a silent laugh.

However that one swing had used up my entire reserve of SP. I carefully pretended to be popping open a bottle of wine as I downed a recovery potion in secret, finally ending with a satisfied sigh.

I’ll admit: I’m just showboating at this point…

“In that case, we will leave the rear to lady Mo Ke, we will evacuate with the survivors and the goods first.”

Just like that, Ouyang and the rest of the soldiers cleared the way ahead for the female survivors. Unfortunately, they seemed to be heading the wrong way.

“Hey, aren’t you guys heading in the wrong direction? Aren’t the stairs over there?”

“There’s no need to worry, lady Mo Ke. We have several security staff with us so we can just take the service lift to the surface.” Ouyang immediately answered from the back of the group. “There should be less zombies in that area as well.”

Wait, then why do I even need to cover their rear?

I mean. For points, of course…

“In that case, you guys go ahead first. I’ll join you once I’m done clearing up the zombies.” With them out of my mind, I finally turned my entire attention towards the slowly advancing horde of zombies. Silently, I gathered my SP into my left palm.

“O Emissary of the Inferno, I command thee, burn all that stands before me to nothingness!”

Because I only stowed away my three fire elementals when I met Yamabe, I did not have to spend any SP when I summoned them this time.

“To battle!”

The three fire elementals dove fearlessly into the horde at my command. However, due to the sheer number of zombies, their efficiency was a lot lower this time.

Maybe I should call out the Shadow Guardian? But just maintaining it would cost me a ton of SP, and I don’t want to keep popping those recovery potions.

“Being a kind and thoughtful system, your system has decided to unlock a new feature for our valued host. Any SP expenditure of your Shadow Guardian can be directly deducted from your points. As long as there are enough points, the Shadow Guardian can be maintained perpetually.”

Right… leave it to my system to always think of new ways to fleece me of points.

The feature sounds great, but can you tell me exactly how many points I need to spend? Per second.

“20 points every 60 seconds.”

That cheap? I want a go then!!

Which reminds me… don’t I have a summon called Inferno Lion? But that requires my SP pool to at least have a capacity of 500 before I can even attempt to summon one.

And I’m… 60. Long way to go then…

To be honest, 500 wasn’t as far of a goal as I would make it out to be. Thanks to the Martial Sage Arts of the Primordial Energies I learnt some time ago, it only took 10 points to increase my capacity by 1 by cultivating. However, ever since the zombie virus broke out, I did not have the time nor points to actually cultivate.

I really should increase my max capacity soon, otherwise summoning will always be a problem…

Chapter 742: Bloodline Awakening

Chest still pounding from the pain, I gritted my teeth as I gazed up at the throne. There, I found two Yamabe Takumas, one with a sagging head, the other floating ominously in the air…

Wait! There’s only one Yamabe! To be precise, his body is dead, but it’s his soul that is floating above him right now. That’s how he managed to blow up my Shadow Guardian!

He is definitely dead, but for some reason, his soul hasn’t passed on…

“Surprised?” His ghostly eyes peered at me with visceral rage. “I’m surprised too, I thought I was invincible, but my Goddess still managed to kill me… Too bad you only managed to kill my body, but what you didn’t know was that I had already implanted a suggestion in myself before the battle started. The death of my physical body won’t stop me. In fact, death is but a new beginning for me.”

Because of how sudden this development was, I was still in shock when the two of us met eyes. By the time I realised my mistake, it was too late…

“Since you won’t be my woman… then be my slave!”

His hypnotic suggestion activated. A wave of energy enveloped me, penetrating into my mind as it slowly changed my very thoughts.

How… Why… Why is he starting to look a little handsome… no, extremely handsome…

I want him to whip me… No, no, no…what am I even saying? I’m not a m̲a̲s̲o̲c̲h̲i̲s̲t̲ pig…

“Valued host, have you forgotten that you are a male?”

How is a boy any different from a girl if he can’t get it up?

“Of course, there’s a difference, it’s not like you don’t have something hanging down there.”

But why do I suddenly feel like changing my gender… Maybe becoming a girl isn’t so bad.

“Then what about your harem?”

Harem? A girl can have a harem too, can’t she?

“But if you give up now, then you will end up as that scumbag’s plaything, is that truly alright? Bitong, Lixiang, Qiaoqiao as well. Maybe even their moms… everyone will become his slave… is that truly alright?”

What’s wrong with that?

… No… that’s definitely wrong… why should someone have their way with my harem?! Never! Over-my-dead-body never!

The thought of the girls crying immediately broke my heart. A groundswell of resistance began to form from the depths of my torn heart, overwhelming my mind in an instant and even changing my body in the process.

My left side, from my face to my arms, started heating up as if I had a severe fever. Countless blue markings started crawling across my skin…

“Begone!”

I let forth a deafening howl, blasting away that hypnotic invader in my mind.

That word contained all my pent anger and resistance, and as it washed over the area like a tidal wave, it even staggered Yamabe, causing his wraith-like form to shimmer.

“I don’t know why, but I have this sudden urge to say this to you.” I gently rubbed the left half of my face which was now covered in magical markings that resembled a serpent’s scales. “You think you can control me with your powers? Boy, you’re still too young… but I will be generous and teach what true terror is.”

Still locking eyes with Yamabe, the magical markings on me started to emit an ethereal glow of blue and white. Instantly, Yamabe was caught in a dream by the glow.

“Ahhhh… Mother. Father. I did not mean to kill you all… I just couldn’t control myself… and you guys betrayed me first… you were the ones who treated me like a monster and locked me up…”

Yamabe reached out and clawed the empty air in front of him.

Based on his words, I could tell he was already on the verge of a breakdown. Killing his parents wasn’t a simple matter for him, after all. Perhaps there might have been people who were born evil in this world, he definitely wasn’t one of them.

The more his spirit struggled, the more apparent how much guilt he felt. At this point, he had completely forgotten that he could fly and was mindlessly walking forwards as he clawed the air. One step. Two steps. Then he dipped into the ground, or rather the mound of zombies beneath him. At the end of the day, he wasn’t actually walking on a mountain, but rather a floor of zombies.

As for why a spirit like him was acting like a living, physical being, who knew? But he had completely forgotten that he was just a soul at this point.

He furiously pulled himself out of the pile, but a couple of steps later, he fell into the mound once more… At this point, all he needed was one more push and his psyche would completely collapse.

While I pondered that last bit, he started clawing his own face instead, his delusions only growing worse by the second.

“Goddess… I beg of you, do not leave me… I love you… I really do… don’t leave me…”

What is he even looking at right now… for him to cry like that…

“Don’t marry those disgusting men… every man other than me are all scumbags… they will never be able to make you happy… “

“I curse you. I curse all your offspring to be born with small pee pees…”

“Goddess… why… why is the whole world always out to get me…”

“I’m the main character here…”

“I will never forgive you, not even if I die!”

After a round of screaming, cursing, and crying, he finally fell to his knees atop the zombie hill. His form started to waver, like how those old CRT televisions used to shimmer when the signal wasn’t strong.

A few seconds later, his form finally scattered to the winds like ashes…

It’s over?

No fighting? No stage three?

The abruptness of the ending left me scratching my head… Wasn’t he supposed to be the last boss of this area?

And also, what’s this about me getting married to others? Why is that the same level as your parents getting murdered?

Bah, at least he’s well and truly dead now. The hypnosis on those survivors should release itself automatically.

I had the system release the webbing on the survivors, then walked up to Chiyo Hanataba and patted her cheeks, “Wake up, it’s time to wake up.”

I tried calling her several times to no avail, and just as I was about to pull out my final move, she suddenly stirred. Perhaps she had sensed the earful I was about to give her, or perhaps the hypnosis had just come undone at this precise moment, but regardless, I never got to yell in her ears…

Chapter 741: Why Do We Always End Up Fighting?

Author: The Sole Survivor Original Source: SFACG
Translator: CatatoPatch English Source: Re:Library

Whether we were talking about those 14 female survivors, or those 27 soldiers, both had been completely robbed of their free will. And judging by the state of things, they might even turn their blades on me.

With that in mind… I should start by securing them. There’s been enough deaths in Southern Plains already, I do not want to add to that tally.

System, I’m looking for a tool here, do you have something to recommend to me?

“Definitely, how about the famous webbing of the Dryders? For just 998 points, you can purchase a set that will immobilize everyone. Not only will they be taken out of the picture, they will be kept safe as well. All that for just 998, delivery included too~”

Sounds a little pricey, but if it’s to protect the hypnotized, I guess I have no choice.

998, right, I’ll take it!

Still feels like a scam to me…

“Perfect, since our valued host is so decisive, the system has generously decided to just settle them on behalf of our valued host.”

Having said that, a storm of white threads blasted out of thin air. Then through some unknown miracle, the webbing sought out the survivors, and finally trapped them in a cocoon of their own. Like an ant that had gotten trapped in a web, the more they tried to break free, the tighter their binding became.

“Goddess, I see you’ve made your own preparations too.” Yamabe smiled deviously, not at all bothered by his pawns being immobilised. “I wanted to slowly have them commit suicide, but…”

“Surrender, you aren’t a match for me.” I coldly eyed him, a dangerous glint flashing across my eyes. “It will be too late if you force me to act.”

“We won’t know who will come out the winner till we try. You’d better be careful yourself, Goddess, you wouldn’t want to get caught by me.”

At that last word, he swiftly backed away, eyes closed as he did so… Was he trying to activate his ability?

I had witnessed him use his ability multiple times already. Each time, he had to prepare for a few seconds. The longest I’ve seen him prepare was ten seconds, and I had never seen him activate his ability instantaneously.

As long as I interrupted him during this period, his ability would fail to activate.

And that time was now!

I fired off a Fireball with a wave of my hands. In under a second, a roaring sphere of flames filled his entire field of vision – this was my victory!

Yet he already had his eyes open the moment I fired off that spell. And to my surprise, he even activated his psychokinesis.

“Begone!”

Powered by a mysterious energy, reality itself seemed to bend to his will.

As the words left his mouth, the sphere of flames immediately deviated off course and even did a one-eighty to fly back at me.

Flame Wall!

I waved my hands and cast a wall of flames, blocking the fiery projectile while obscuring his vision. With this window of opportunity, I summoned my Shadow Guardian.

Gifted with its own will, it did not even require any instruction on my part as it darted towards the retreating boy, as I had intended.

By now, Yamabe had managed to float up to the top of the zombie hill. He slowly sat himself down on his handmade throne for dramatic effect, then barked, “Flames!”

A second later, the white webbing around the survivors burst into flames! As the incandescent monster chewed through the webbing, the temperature around them only became more unbearable by the second. At this rate, the survivors would get burned to death before the webbing gave way.

Crap, I need to find a way to extinguish that fire, but I don’t have any water-based skills… and I don’t remember any being on sale either.

“Valued host, there’s no need to worry at all. As long as you have the points, your system has the goods.”

You scumbag, you’re trying to profit off my misfortune… How much?

Even if I hated her profiteering, I really had no choice now.

“Not much, just 200.”

I’ll pay! Extinguish those flames!

“My pleasure.”

As she promised, the white webbings immediately turned an icy blue and even began emitting a white mist… did she change the elemental nature of the web?

An instant later, the flames were snuffed out.

But if that was truly the case, wouldn’t that mean that the temperature was now super low? Are they going to get frozen to death?

“Not at all, every product your system has sold thus far has always been top quality. There’s no need to worry, dear valued host, the webbing won’t harm them.”

As she said, while her prices were criminal, they were never defective. With her guarantee, my worries were allayed.

“As expected of my Goddess, I am in awe.” Having countered every move he had made thus far, Yamabe clapped his hands in admiration as he continued, “I will admit, I did not expect your abilities to be this wondrous, but I guess that’s only to be expected of the Goddess I looked up to.”

“You aren’t too bad yourself, you scheming *******. Your ability can be activated instantly, can’t it? But you made sure to always prepare for a few seconds when you demonstrated it before me. I bet you were already scheming against me then. You’re the one with the true ulterior motives.”

“I am not, and I did not. All that was just a precaution, I did not expect that we would actually fight.”

“Keep acting, keep acting.” I glared at the boy hatefully. “I really thought we could be friends.”

“Friends? Not lovers?” He grinned evilly. “If we aren’t lovers, then…”

He never finished his sentence, as the next moment later, a black hand pierced his skull without any warning.

Yamabe Takuma was dead…

Silent as the night, he had no warning at all before my Shadow Guardian struck.

I looked at the boy’s lifeless face and sighed, my emotions a complicated mess right now. “I bet you never realised that some main characters actually die at the end of their novels, especially the dark heroes. But I guess it doesn’t matter now that you’re dead…”

“Explode!”

Then the unexpected happened. Even though Yamabe was clearly dead, I still heard his thunderous yell echo across the cavernous floor. Following which, his corpse exploded along with the Shadow Guardian which wasn’t able to return in time.

Thump…

At the same instant that the Shadow Guardian died, I could feel a heavy pain in my chest, knocking me breathless for a second.

“Too bad I’m not such a useless main character.”

Chapter 740: Break Down

Author: The Sole Survivor Original Source: SFACG

“Haven’t I given you a mission already?” Even though I couldn’t see my own face, I knew how fake my expression must have looked right now. “You’re irreplaceable to me. There’s no one more important than you, so there’s no need to second guess…”

“I’m important? Are you sure about that? Important for your plans, more like it. I’m just a tool to you. The disposable kind you toss away once you’re done with it.” His face grew even darker. “And even though I’ve joined this Bureau, Goddess, you haven’t even given me an official appointment. Not only that, you’ve been constantly testing me. If I hadn’t been so obedient to your demands, I bet you would have already tried to get rid of me.”

“…”

This time, I couldn’t find an excuse for myself. Even though the situation wasn’t as sinister as Yamabe thought it was, it was a fact that I did not trust him. From the very start, I did not trust him.

After all, he was a boy who murdered his own parents in a fit of rage, how could I trust someone like that…

“What do you want?”

Our trust had completely broken down at this point, but I still wanted to make this work out somehow.

Yet without trust, could there ever be cooperation? There was a saying that a person’s heart had a wall around it known as the skin, a wall that wasn’t so easily pierced.

“I want you to be my girlfriend!”

“Impossible.”

“Then you leave me no choice.” Yamabe eyed the group of survivors who had unknowingly parked behind us. “Goddess, I know you care a lot about these survivors. If you do not say yes, I will kill them.”

“Are you threatening me?”

That scumbag! He turned on me faster than he turned a page in a book!

“This isn’t a threat, I’m merely stating a fact.” He lowered his head lightly and flashed me a sinister smile. “As a show of my sincerity, how about I kill one of them now?”

“Ouyang! Protect them!”

I whipped my head around as I yelled to the man. Unfortunately, I was immediately greeted by the sight of those 14 female survivors all lined up neatly atop a tall stack of trunks. Putting aside the matter of how they even managed to climb that high in the first place, I could tell from their empty gazes that they had already been hypnotised.

As for Ouyang Huiren and the soldiers, they were just as lifeless…

I understand now, from the very beginning I was already in his clutches… he’s not the idiot here… the true idiot is… me… and it always has been…

“What did you do to Chiyo Hanataba?”

“Chiyo is my pawn, I had her approach you on purpose.” Victory close at hand, Yamabe couldn’t help but smile triumphantly as he continued to explain, “Don’t worry, I didn’t hypnotise her, but I did implant a subconscious desire within her to approach you as soon as possible. Honestly, I wanted to see how she, a third person in all this, would retell my story. Her version would be completely neutral and fair… But who would have thought that you would actually refrain from asking me about this, it must have been hard to keep such a secret for so long.”

“So when you knocked on the restroom door, you were checking if Chiyo was actually performing her role?”

“No, no.” He continued smiling. “I just wanted to make sure you haven’t forgotten about me, that’s all. After all, by that time, you had already been talking to her for ten minutes. Spending too much time away from the Goddess makes me uneasy.”

“… And what next?”

“Upon learning that I killed those survivors and my parents, you didn’t confront me right away. From that alone, I can tell you are willing to overlook my crime . But why? Exactly what is it I have that would make my Goddess act like that?” He then tilted his head back slightly.

“This isn’t just me bragging but, if it was me, taking over the whole of Southern Plains is only a matter of time.”

If his head tilted any further back, it would probably reach the floor.

“It’s precisely because I’m so useful that you would bear with my presence. I know very well how selfish humans can be. All that talk about innocence and morals… didn’t they lock me up for their own sake anyway?!” Yamabe was practically yelling now.

“Well look at me now! Those who locked me up are dead, and I’m still alive! Me! I’m the one who’s laughing at the end! I’m the true main character of this story. Whatever I say, goes. The main character never dies!”

“And what about Ouyang Huiren and the others?”

“They have always been under my control, even though they did not realise it. I had already implanted that subliminal suggestion when I woke them up. The moment I decide to flip the table, they will automatically be hypnotised.”

“Like now.”

“Yes, they are already my dogs. Whatever I tell them to do, they will obey without question.”

I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply. “One last question.” I slowly said.

Yamabe Takuma had clearly planned this all out from the start. If I agreed to his request, all this wouldn’t have happened. Chiyo and Ouyang would have spent their entire lives not knowing that they had been controlled.

Unfortunately, there was no way I would ever be another person’s girlfriend. Because I was… am a man! Just because my little brother couldn’t stand up, did not mean that I did not have rights! Men with sausage dysfunction were still men!

“You want to know how to remove the hypnosis?” He smiled knowingly. “Honestly, there’s no need to even ask such a question. The easiest solution is always to kill off the source.”

“I take it you won’t change course then.”

“Change? Do you think I still can?” He sneered at me. “If I do, will you be my girlfriend?”

“Impossible.”

“And that’s my answer too!”

At the end of the day, we are settling this by force; there’s no law left to govern this city, after all. So be it, I’m not afraid of you!

But before that, I have to ensure those survivors are okay.

Chapter 739: Coming Clean

“What’s up?” I turned around to find Yamaba looking at me with a strange expression. “I’m listening, go on.”

Technically, he always had a strange expression on his face, so his strangeness now wasn’t actually that strange. In fact, it would be stranger if he was acting normal.

“Goddess,” he licked his lips as he said that. “What are your plans once the whole crisis in Southern Plains is over?”

“Plans?” I was startled for a second. I actually hadn’t considered my future plans. The sheer absurdity and scale of the crisis did not allow for such luxuries.

Seeing my momentary confusion, Yamabe continued smiling as brightly as ever, “I hope to have an everlasting romance.”

“Everlasting romance? With who?”

Suddenly, I had this really bad feeling.

“Us, of course.” Yamabe chuckled at that point. “I’m the main character, after all. Who else is worthy of the Goddess except for me? And if there is, tell me, I will beat him to death.”

My face practically seized up. I woodenly turned my head around and said, enunciating each word slowly, “I’m sorry, but I actually like girls more.”

“…” His eyes went wide. “But Goddess, isn’t it a waste for you to like girls? How about this, I will open a huge harem, and you will be the head of my harem. As long as you’re the head of the harem, you can do whatever you like to the girls inside!”

I silently stared at that pair of lips that uttered the most shameful idea of opening a harem. “There’s something I haven’t told you yet. I’m actually a guy. That likes girls.”

“Goddess… there’s no need to debase yourself just to reject me. Even though your chest is a little flat, there’s no need to be ashamed of them. I will love you forever either way!”

Yuck… I just can’t… and why won’t anyone believe me?

I continued my silent disgust while Yamaba prattled on. “Don’t worry, Goddess, I will not discriminate against those with flat chests. In my heart, flat is the best! Flat is justice!“

I’m quite sure the follow-up to that is, medium is premium, oppai is truth…

“I get what you’re saying, and I understand that you can’t accept the harsh reality of my gender, but I really am a guy, one hundred percent!”
Unfortunately, it seemed like Yamabe had no intention of believing me at all. He already had his hands cupped around his ears as he chanted, “I’m not listening, I’m not listening! I’m not listening…”

Important things have to be repeated thrice, huh… very good…

“Doesn’t matter whether or not you are listening, my gender is not going to change just because you don’t believe me.”

Even though reality was a cruel mistress, I couldn’t keep him in the dark any further.

Perhaps I could have continued lying to him for a good while longer, getting him to work hard on my behalf, but a day would come when the truth would come out.

More importantly, lying to a person like that did not sit well with me.

People often mistook my gender for a female’s, and I knew explaining myself would be pointless, so I did not correct the record… but that was just me giving up rather than lying…

The situation now was different. If this misunderstanding wasn’t corrected soon, there was a very real fear that things might get out of hand. Thus I decided to come clean. Better to deal with the pain early than to let it fester.

Only a heartless person would toy with the boy’s heart like that. No matter what, I would never become someone like that. Ever!

As if he suddenly realised something, he lowered his head and said in a deadpan voice, “I get it now… Rather than accept me, the Goddess would rather debase herself… The Goddess must truly hate me…”

“I don’t hate you, I’m just trying to tell you that it’s impossible between us.”

The misunderstanding between us was a lot deeper than I thought, requiring more patience on my part.

However, I had completely forgotten that Yamabe’s mental state was anything but normal right now. He had already been betrayed by his parents, calling this a sensitive period for him was being generous.

“Yes, I understand now, a normal girl would never date someone they hate. Since the Goddess hates me, then I have only one choice left… You forced me to do this… I am the main character, if I can’t even get what I want, what kind of main character am I?” Yamabe raised his head dramatically. His face was twisted beyond recognition by the overflowing desire leaking out. “There’s no time.”

“Yamabe?” At this point, no matter how dense I was, I could tell that the situation had gone awry.

As a last ditch attempt, I tried to placate him once more. “Yamabe, calm down and think about it for a second, are you really going to attack me? There’s still time to change your mind…”

“It’s too late.” He stared right into my eyes, lips still smiling strangely. “From the moment you sought out Chiyo Hanataba, it was already too late. I was planning to tell you in the future myself, but you’ve betrayed my trust…”

The moment he mentioned Chiyo’s name, my heart lurched. “You knew?”

“Of course. She must have secretly told you in the restroom . Else why would you have known so much about me.” Yamabe swept his eyes over Chiyo who was still seated atop one of the carts with her head down. “Goddess, you’re the one who let the cat out of the bag. I never told you that I killed someone before, yet you knew… Then there’s the fact that Chiyo went out of my sight for a while and came back bolder… After putting all that together, there can be no else other than her.”

Such cunning insight… All I did was let slip a little information and he managed to discern so much…

“I know that the Goddess has been guarding against me from the start.”

“I haven’t…”

“You have!” He forcefully interrupted me. His face still maintained a veneer of calm but his words were anything but. “Everyone knows what the situation in Southern Plains is like. There’s only two reasons that Bureau of yours would seek out people like me: to recruit me, and perhaps employ me in some exceptional cases, or perhaps to silence me.”

Chapter 738: Preparing to Leave

“There’s a nearby maintenance station for exosuits, it’s meant for the security staff of the park.” One of the security staff was quick to suggest a solution for their cleanliness problem. “There is ammunition kept there as well, we can stock up at the same time.”

“Alright, let’s head there first.” Ouyang Huiren nodded his approval. “Anyone else have something to add? If not, we’re off.”

He waited a couple more seconds, and upon seeing no one say a word, he led the way towards the station. “Let’s go!”

“Goddess, do you still require an exosuit, I know where you can find one,” Yamabe Takuma eagerly quipped in an obvious attempt at garnering my approval. “I know of an exosuit which had some issues, but I’m sure it can be fixed up easily. I can bring it back later. Goddess, how about you use mine first?”

“It’s fine, I don’t need such a thing.” I waved him off. “Finish your mission and come back quickly.”

“Yes, we’ll do our best to finish the work fast.” Yamabe entered one of the storerooms of the cafe, exiting mere moments later in a dark green security exosuit. He swiftly caught up to the soldiers and the group left the vicinity together.

With Yamabe escorting them, those soldiers should be fine. I guess I’m on survivor duty then.

I was more worried about those unpredictable ghosts launching a sneak attack on us, that was why I exchanged a bunch of those Inferno Talismans and stuck them all over the cafe. Once we were done with the cafe, I could just as easily peel off the talismans that haven’t activated – convenient.

So… I wonder what kind of powers I got this time from my bloodline strengthening… Still… 100,000 points… why do I get this feeling that I’m getting scammed…

The two hours of break time passed by in an instant, especially when everyone had a job to do.

The food had just come off the stove when Ouyang Huiren and the others returned with five carts in tow, each stacked with trunks. Unlike when they first left the cafe, their exosuits were now spick and span. Clearly, they had taken the time to clean up at the maintenance station.

“Not bad, very efficient.” I praised them. “What’s inside those trunks?”

“Food, medicine, some sundries.” Yamabe was quick to answer as he walked out of the group, finger pointing at each of the trunks as he listed their contents. “There’s also some female necessities in them.” He winked at me at that point… That proud look on his face… he’s lucky I haven’t punched him yet! And why does it feel like this misunderstanding between me and him is only getting worse by the second… I mean I haven’t actually told him I’m a guy, but there’s a good reason for that…

Not long after, Yamabe led me away to a quiet corner and shoved an unknown object into my hands. Having done all that, he blushed and ran off…

Whether it was the flowery wrapping or its decidedly soft contents, I could already tell what this gift was meant for without even looking…

Darn it! How many times do I have to tell him that I’m not here to look for a partner!

Our meal went smoothly for the most part, with everyone huddling together around nearby tables. By the time we were done eating and had fully rested, it was almost night.

I stood up, eyed the fidgeting female survivors, then looked at the 27 or so soldiers, some male and some female.

The room quietened down in an instant. Everyone knew I was about to make an announcement from the moment I stood up.

“Ahem…” I cleared my throat once, then in a firm voice, said, “I intend to set up a safe zone in the city for all the survivors of Southern Plains to gather in. I know this might sound like a distant goal for us now, but if we do not take that first step, we will not reach it. As the saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I intend to take this first step, and I hope that everyone present will join me in this endeavour!”

“Goddess, I will support you for life!” Yamabe was the first to stand up and make his decision known. His eyes burned with a fiery passion as he thrust his hand up to volunteer. “The Goddess’s goals are my goals. For the Goddess, I will do anything!”

I turned to look at the smitten boy’s face.

Please stop… especially that goddess bit… it’s really embarrassing…

Someone kill me… Actually, I want to kill someone right now…

With the very audible approval of Yamabe leading the way, Ouyang Huiren was quick to follow, swearing to protect the citizens of this city to his dying breath.

The female survivors were mostly silent, but there wasn’t really much for them to do in the first place, outside of staying alive.

In fact, their safety was a concern of mine as well. Frankly speaking, their comely appearance did them no favours in a lawless environment like this zombie apocalypse.

As for the men… I don’t want no dirty males in my harem, thank you very much.

That was just a joke, of course… just a joke… It’s not like I would accept just any old pretty girl into my harem. After all, while others only needed money to open up a harem, I needed points. Points!

Now that our little meeting was over, it was time to leave this underground playground. I had the women positioned in the middle of our combatants and prepared to leave.

Our destination was the hot springs inn; the environment there was quite conducive for my needs. By my estimates, that inn could house hundreds of survivors at the same time. Water wouldn’t be an issue there, and more importantly, Bitong and the girls were waiting for me there.

Until I found a better place, the inn was a fine temporary base.

If there had to be one defect with that inn, it would be that giant skeleton… that was a headache of its own…

However, now that that hoodlum was dealt with, and its Soul Flame snuffed out, there was no chance of it ever resurrecting.

As for that giant supermarket… there were a ton of supplies there, but the environment was cramped and labyrinthian. It was filled with zombies, requiring quite a fair bit of clean up before the building as a whole was usable. Definitely not my first choice.

Finally, our group of forty or so left the cafe, with me leading the way, closely followed by Yamabe.

The women were all seated atop the trunks, which were in turn carried by those carts from before. Before the world went to heck, these carts were often used to ferry staff around as well, so having them ride the carts was a safe choice.

For the most part, our initial journey upwards was uneventful, given that Yamabe had already put the majority of the zombies to sleep. Barring the odd scream or two from the more timid girls, there was nothing worth reporting.

Yet the moment we got close to the slumbering zombie mountain, Yamabe suddenly broke his silence. “Goddess, there’s actually something I’ve been meaning to ask you…”

“Greetings, mam, I heard you’re from the Bureau of Enhanced Humans and Supernatural Ability Users? But I haven’t heard of such a bureau within the Federation.” Unlike my past encounters, this soldier did not reveal his face on our first meeting. Based on his voice, he was probably around his mid-thirties, and probably your stereotypical stern soldier.

“Greetings, regarding my identity, I think it would be better if you confirm this fact with your superiors. Communications has been restored in the park.”

“There’s no need for that, I have General Rodenas by my side right now.” Aunty Xinqing stepped in with a smile. “General, sir, I think it would be better if you were the one to clarify the matter of Ke’s identity.”

“Definitely, a lady like lady Mo Ke should never have to come under suspicion.” The fierce, grizzled but balding figure of General Rodenas popped into view a second later. Even though he was famously known as the Raging Bear, he always seemed clumsy while addressing me. “Lady Mo Ke, it has been a while.”

“Didn’t we see each other yesterday?” What do you mean “it has been a while”? Stupid baldy. And why are you even so eager to meet with me again? Don’t you have some strategic meeting to hold with the Federation?

“General Rodenas, sir, if you would please clear up this misunderstanding as soon as possible, every second counts right now.”

Annoyed, I still did my best to control my impatience before pointing towards the soldiers in question.

Honestly, these soldiers weren’t very pleasant to be around at all. Having just broken free of their forced hibernation, their exosuits barely had any time out of that zombie pile before rushing over here. The smell around them was… pungent… Even so, I would much rather deal with that sour stench than to spend another second under that bald general’s gaze.

“Greetings, I am General Rodenas, the current representative of the military in charge of Southern Plains.”

“General, sir?!” The leading soldier obviously recognised the bald general.

“Seems like you know of me. As Lady Mo Ke has said, time is precious right now, so I’ll be quick. The Bureau of Enhanced Humans and Supernatural Ability Users is a secret department tasked with handling matters regarding the supernatural. The girl standing before you is one of our most elite members. As of right now, all governmental resources within Southern Plains have been allocated to her control. Simply put, she’s the highest authority here and you all have to listen to her command. Got it?”

“Yes, sir!” The soldiers barked in unison, mostly anyway. Their grouping was made up of policemen, soldiers, and some of the private security of the theme park. Even so, it was an impressive response.

The private security of the theme park were, in fact, retired soldiers. In terms of fighting strength, they weren’t that far off from the current soldiers serving with the Federation.

Having said all that, General Rodenas turned around to face me. In the process, his stern countenance immediately cracked into a smile that would put the Smiling Buddha to shame. Or at least it would have, had it not been for him looking more like a horror film villain.

“Lady Mo Ke, I’ll leave them in your care.”

I smiled politely and exchanged a couple of pleasantries before turning off the comms channel.

Honestly, why does he even try? It just makes him look stupid.

Regardless, thanks to the General’s explanation, the soldiers were able to verify my identity, meaning we could finally proceed with my plans.

“Greetings, I’m the commanding officer of the Third Company of the Fourth Southern Plains Brigade, my name is Ouyang Huiren.”

The soldier leading them turned on his visual display of his reddish-black exosuit. Unlike his somewhat effeminate name, he was the very definition of a manly man. A squarish face with hard features. A black buzz cut with skin that was nearly tanned black. Shoulders as broad as his exosuit… you could tell he was manly right away.

Alright… time for some world-class speech giving.

I cleared my throat softly, “Greetings, my brave soldiers. My name is Mo Ke, a member of the Bureau of Enhanced Humans and Supernatural Ability Users, currently awarded the rank of Major. For the time being, all the Federation’s resources in Southern Plains are under my control. Meaning, you guys will be under my command as well.”

“Understood. General Rodenas has already informed us of that. We are willing to obey your commands and execute them to the best of our abilities!” Ouyang Huiren nodded his head.

“Good.” I turned to face Yamabe Takuma. “Are there any other survivors?”

“None. They are all gathered here.”

“In that case, everyone, pack your bags, we will leave for the surface in two hours.”

“Not right now?” Yamabe asked, a little confused.

“Hmmm, now… I think the soldiers need some rest first, I’m sure they haven’t had much to eat since yesterday.” I swept my eyes across the significantly cramper cafe as I said that. My eyes came to a rest on Chiyo Hanataba, “I have to trouble you to prepare some food for everyone, and quickly.”

Chiyo turned to look at Yamabe first, and upon seeing that he did not object, she finally nodded her head. “Yes, I’ll get right on it. There’s quite a few of them, but with the other girls, I think everything should be ready in an hour or so.”

She then led the other female survivors to the kitchen. With its stocked up pantry, I was sure a hearty meal should be ready in no time at all.

“Right, let’s sort out the supplies in the park in the meantime. There aren’t many survivors left outside, but having more supplies never hurts.”

Given that we had nothing much to do while waiting for the food, scavenging for supplies seemed like a better use of our time than just lazing around.

“I know where the supplies in this area are kept. Food, medicine, daily necessities, I can lead you to them.” Yamabe spoke with a fire in his eyes. “Goddess, how about you rest, I can handle this myself.”

His enthusiasm was definitely a good thing, but I couldn’t help but wonder how he was going to move all the supplies by himself.

“By yourself?”

“I’ll have the zombies do the heavy lifting.” Yamabe promptly cleared up that question.

“Zombies…” A mental image of rotting zombies delivering goods immediately flashed across my mind, causing me to recoil in disgust. “I don’t want to touch something carried by a rotting corpse!!”

“You can leave this mission to us. We have 27 members in our team, and we are all armed with exosuits, perfect for moving heavy objects.” As he said that, Ouyang Huiren paused for a second. “But our suits are a little dirty right now, we might have to wash up first.”

So what to do first…

I gave it some thought, then slowly said to a wide-eyed Yamabe Takuma, “How about we start by waking up the soldiers you put to sleep. We still need them for protecting the survivors.”

This was a test of sorts for him. If he was really serious about working for me, he would follow my instructions without hesitation.

“Alright,” he replied before closing his eyes, as if he was focusing on somewhere else.

I did not dare interrupt him now, so I merely stayed silent at the side.

Perhaps he’s not all that familiar with his powers yet? Or maybe he just requires time to activate it… Either way, more observation is needed.

Ten seconds later, he suddenly opened his eyes. “Wake up!”

It wasn’t a loud yell, but his words seemed to have some mysterious force behind them.

“Done, they are awake now. I predict they will be here shortly.” He flashed me a confident smile. “Goddess, is there anything else I can do?”

“Restore the communications in the park, I need to report the situation down here to my superiors. And also the matter of you joining the Bureau.” As of right now, there was an unknown force enveloping the entirety of this theme park. It was this force that was interfering with communications, blocking me from contacting anyone outside.

Now that Yamabe Takuma had been successfully recruited, my mission down here was over and a mission report was the last thing I had to do.

Yamabe closed his eyes once more, muttering a string of words under his breath as he did so. A few seconds later, I could sense the strange energy field around me being lifted.

Well. He’s very obedient, isn’t he? I might have just found myself the best assistant ever!

I immediately rang up Aunty Xinqing, who picked up nearly instantly. The figure of her upper half appeared before me in holographic form.

“Ke, done already?” Looking at the clean surroundings around me, Aunty Xinqing was visibly surprised as she said, “Are you in the park?”

“I’m in a cafe on the fifth floor, I met an ability user by the name of Yamabe Takuma.” I turned around to motion at the boy, signalling for him to come forward and say hello. “This person is the head of the Bureau of Enhanced Humans and Supernatural Ability Users. I will give her more details about your situation later, but for now, you can temporarily serve under me. Is that okay?”

“No problem, whatever my Goddess says!” He practically beamed as he said that. The way he listened to my every request without question -and he was competent as well- was just refreshing.

“Aunty Xinqing, I will get you a report later, I’m about to wake up the slumbering soldiers, I’m sure they will…”

Before I could even finish, I heard the distinctive clang of an exosuit’s hefty metal feet outside.

“Seems like they are already up. Yamabe, how about you find one of the waitresses to receive them for me.” Because I was still on a holographic call with Aunty Xinqing, I decided to delegate this job to him.

I would let Yamabe receive them, but he was the one who put them to sleep in the first place, so getting him to greet them might cause some unnecessary problems.

Those waitresses were an entirely different story. Their looks weren’t bad, disarming even. Having them do the job would be perfect. Or at the very least, those soldiers won’t open fire on them…

However, Yamabe did not seem to get my plan, or maybe he just didn’t think much of the soldiers to begin with.

“I can do it myself, there’s no need to trouble someone else.”

Just like that, he walked out of the front door, and had twenty odd guns pointed right at him.

“Everyone, calm down, don’t do anything rash!”

I yelled as I rushed out the door. But before I could even explain, Yamabe turned around and gave me a thumbs up. “Don’t worry, Goddess, this is just a misunderstanding, that’s all. I can take care of them.”

“Make sure you explain the situation to them then!”

Looking at his confident smile, I could only trust in his own abilities. Besides, I could still step in if it didn’t work out.

With that out of the way, I turned my attention back to Aunty Xinqing.

She winked and gave me a mischievous smile. “Oh my, look at our Ke, all grown up and bewitching ability users left and right. If only he had on a skirt, that would be even better!”

“Aunty… if you’re going to be like that, I’m going to ignore you!” I snapped back out of a mix of anger and embarrassment. “You know what your precious daughter did when she filled in my details!”

“Even without that, your aunty has always raised you like she would her own daughter.” Finally, before I lost my temper, she diverted the topic. “Right. Ke, didn’t you mention there was some problem with Yamabe? While we have the time, how about you tell me directly, no need for a report.”

“Yamabe, huh…” I turned to look at the boy, head pounding a little. I sighed. “His situation is… complicated. He killed a number of people…”

I briefly recounted what I learnt about the boy, after which Aunty Xinqing fell silent as well.

A while later, she finally asked, “How’s his condition now?”

“Should be fine. But those who were present seem to be very afraid of him… but at least he listens to me.”

“Oh? If a person who tames a beast is called a beast tamer, what do you call a person who can tame a misbehaving person?” Her grin grew even wider at that point. “Our little Ke is truly the most beautiful in this world. Even an unstable boy is no match for his charms.”

“Aunty!”

It was then that Yamabe came in with the twenty or so soldiers.”

None of them stepped out of their exosuits, clearly on guard against the boy. After a round of explanations though, they at least seemed to be willing to give him a chance.

System lady, please, can I have my bloodline strengthening now?

“It’s already done.”

Huh? It’s done? Already? What about the special effects?

“And what kind of special effects does our valued host want? A flash of lightning? The earth shaking perhaps?”

Maybe not the earth shaking, but at least have a lightshow. It just feels lacking if you’re so slipshod about the whole strengthening.

“What if Yamabe Takuma comes looking again, because of your lightshow?”

Yamabe… You know what, maybe we don’t need special effects.

“Smart.”

Heheh, don’t praise me like that, my head will get big.

“That wasn’t praise. But there’s something the system has to inform you about, valued host.”

What’s that?

“The most recent strengthening used up one hundred thousand points.”

What the @#$? How many thousands?

Why don’t you just go rob a bank?

“Isn’t that what your system is doing already?”

I thought it was free…

By the way, why don’t I feel any different after being strengthened? And let’s be clear here, if the effects aren’t good, I want a refund!

“Oho? Someone is throwing a tantrum now. Don’t worry, when the time comes, the strengthening effect will activate on its own.”

Even though I still felt like I had been robbed, it was an undeniable fact that everything I had right now was given to me by the system. Charging me a fee was only to be expected. The system had even warned me in the past that each strengthening would cost ten times as much as the previous. Meaning, to strengthen this one of a kind bloodline, the first strengthening would cost ten thousand while the next would cost a hundred thousand… Nothing to find fault with there… but it was still a little expensive… like punch me in the nose and charge me a fee for it kind of expensive.

With the strengthening out of the way, I had a brief chat with Chiyo Hanataba before leaving the washroom separately.

Yamabe Takuma was seated in his chair when I walked out. Beside him was that black-haired waitress, shivering profusely as she clutched onto her serving platter for dear life.

“Goddess, you’re back. I had some red ginger tea prepared.” He enthusiastically pushed a half full white bowl up to me. “It’s still hot, perhaps you can drink it later.”

“Thanks…” As I looked at his glowing eyes, I couldn’t help but recoil a little, hairs standing on ends from disgust. However, I still kept my silence. I knew now wasn’t the time to harp on the issue of my gender. I couldn’t even get a normal person to get my gender right, let alone Yamabe, who was mentally unstable right now.

But red ginger tea huh… yuck… that should be something you give to your bride or your fiancee when she visits your parents.

“Goddess, you should have more hot drinks, it’s better for you. If you feel unwell anywhere, tell me, I will find a doctor for you. Even though most of the people outside are dead, I’m sure if we look hard enough, we can still find one.” Yamabe Takuma passionately looked into my eyes. “Drink, you will feel much better once you do.”

Like heck I will, I’m a man, I don’t drink that kind of stuff for brides.

I did not pick up the tea. Rather, I cleared my throat lightly and said in a tense voice, “Yamabe Takuma, there’s something I need to discuss with you.”

“Go ahead, my Goddess, I’m all ears.”

“It’s like this. I’m here to investigate the missing soldiers who came to this theme park…” I briefly explained my objectives. “I’m here to search the park, and if I were to find any survivors, my job would be to escort them to the surface. We plan to establish a safe zone up above, but we need more combatants for that. If it’s you, I’m sure we can establish one in no time at all. I hope that you can help me with this, is that okay?”

Having said all that, I even gave him a yearning look to seal the deal… Absolutely disgusting, but his ability was truly worth the effort.

“If it’s the Goddess asking, I will never say no. Fulfilling the desires of my Goddess is what I live for!”

Yamabe swore in an oath-like fashion.

Honestly, if I didn’t know better, I would have never associated someone so innocent with a person who had been betrayed by his own parents. Even if they had their own reasons, it was still a betrayal to him.

At the end of the day, there was no right or wrong in this unfortuantematter, but to kill your own parents…

Sigh… sometimes you had to ignore the small details in order to accomplish the greater goal. With how powerful his ability was, at least a temporary cooperation could be forgiven. There weren’t that many survivors left… With this kid, we could at least guarantee the safety of the zone.

And it wasn’t like he did not have his own reasons too. The situation being what it was, surely no one would mind if I made this decision for the greater good of the survivors… Plus, with him at my side, I could set aside more time to search for survivors.

Maybe we can even break out of this damned lockdown!

No matter how I looked at it, he was a necessary ally. And the way to attain this ally was… Well, at least I don’t have to cross dress. As for my gender… it’s not like he asked me. As an honest boy, I won’t lie but I’m not going to tattle on myself either.

“Thank you.” I breathed a sigh of relief at his quick acceptance.

He was now an integral part of my plans for a safe zone, so being able to secure his aid so easily was a huge boon.

Yet barely a second later, he seemed to be hesitating, “Goddess, there’s something I need to tell you as well…”

“What’s that?”

He lowered his head and muttered in a barely audible whisper, “I’ve actually killed some survivors before…”

“Oh… hmm… about that… as long as you cooperate with me sincerely, I can ask my superiors to turn a blind eye to that. After all, you weren’t in the right state of mind when the incident happened…”

“Really?” His eyes lit up.

“Really. You’re important to my future plans. And anyone in your shoes would have acted the same…” I took a deep breath at that point. “As long as you give your best in the upcoming operation, I will vouch for you.”

“That’s great.” He thumped his chest. “Then what should I do next, my Goddess. I’m yours to command!”

Chapter 734: Vocal Psychokinesis

Author: The Sole Survivor Original Source: SFACG
Translator: CatatoPatch English Source: Re:Library

Just about when the two of us were done discussing, Yamabe Takuma came knocking on our door. Literally.

“Goddess, are you in there? Goddess?”

His voice sounded anxious. His knocking only grew quicker as the seconds passed. While they weren’t obnoxiously loud, they were rapid.

“I’m here…” I answered with false annoyance as I quickly exchanged a look with Chiyo Hanataba, who gave me a distraught look in return. “What are you even doing outside the girl’s washroom? Don’t tell me you’re into that kind of stuff?”

“No, no. I’m not a pervert… I was just worried about my Goddess… It’s been a while since you left so I was getting worried…” His voice dropped off a little at the end like a child who had been wronged. “Goddess, are you done? Let’s go back and have our shaved ice.”

“Don’t let him know that I was talking to you, please…” Chiyo begged me with her hands clasped together. The boy outside must have had a truly terrifying effect on the girls for her to act this way. I still had more questions for her, but first I had to find a reason to satisfy Yamabe.

“Just one second, I’m feeling a little unwell right now. I’m not so sure about that shaved ice either.”

“You’re unwell? Do you need me to find some medicine?”

“It’s fine… It’s just those days of the month again…”

What am I even saying…

“Oh. That’s true, being a girl is inconvenient at times… And shaved ice isn’t too good for the body. I’ll get the waitresses to prepare something hot then. Don’t worry, I’ll be waiting for you outside, my Goddess. No matter how long it takes.”

Yamabe left a few more words of concern before finally leaving satisfied.

“Phew… he’s gone…” I immediately heard Chiyo let out a sigh of relief.

“So what did Yamabe Takuma do other than purging the cafe of his parents and the males? Did he do anything to you?”

“No. He hasn’t done anything to us… but the aura he gives off… it’s like he’s not human anymore…” Chiyo looked as if she was trying to figure out how to describe the boy, but for some reason or another, nothing came to mind. Finally, she shook her head and said, “I’m not sure how to explain it, but he’s just scary…”

On that point, we could agree upon. Taking control of a giant underground theme park alone was not something a normal evolved human could do.

Even I was only able to slay those zombies, not stack them up like a giant tower of cards.

“Do you have any idea what his powers are?”

“They are… strange… whatever he says seems to become reality.” Just like before, she couldn’t figure out the words to describe his powers, so she started recounting what happened instead. “Back when Yamabe walked out of the isolation room, he ordered that the door be open, and the door just swung open. He said he wanted all the men, his parents, and any girl who wasn’t pretty enough to leave the cafe and kill each other, they just followed his orders without questions…”

Really?!

Opening up a locked door means his speech is able to influence physical objects. Having those survivors kill each other shows he is able to influence them on a mental level…

So he’s basically able to turn his words into reality then?

With that kind of power, I bet I can become an emperor, then open up a massive harem, and then…

“Young people these days should ground themselves in reality and stop dreaming about the skies…”

Fine. I know they aren’t possible, but a man can dream.

By the way, what’s up with that power of his? How is he able to translate his words into actual reality?

“That ability is known as Vocal Psychokinesis, the use of words to affect reality.”

No way…

“Don’t look down on words, they have a power of their own.”

But there’s a ton of people talking everyday. Just in terms of cursing alone, you can probably find millions who have cursed someone in a single day. I don’t see those people dropping dead… are you sure you aren’t just pulling my leg here?

“Valued host, do you not chant when activating Lion’s Majesty? That chant is a form of vocal psychokinesis as well. Magic requires a variety of chants, those chants are actually all variations of vocal psychokinesis. And ordinary people are able to employ vocal psychokinesis as well, except those instances are often written off as the person being a jinx.”

What the heck… is that how you’re explaining this?

But I guess it does make sense. There are those who somehow bring about misfortune just by speaking. So what you’re saying is that those “jinxes” are actually activating a form of vocal psychokinesis unconsciously?

“Our valued host isn’t wrong in saying that, but often those jinxes are just plain unlucky, given that ordinary people do not possess a sufficiently strong level of psychic power.”

Then how are we going to deal with this kid? The more I learn about him, the more suspicious he gets. Even if he’s really a fan of mine, I need a way to guard against him as a precaution.

What truly worried me was that I might get unknowingly hypnotised…

“Our valued host is right again, but do not worry, your system has generously decided to strengthen your bloodline. After this strengthening, our valued host will have the ability to resist psychic compulsions.”

For free? System lady, you’re the best.

But a system lady that isn’t trying to fleece me of points makes me wonder if this is even the same system lady I know…

“Don’t be so hasty there. Free is impossible, not in your lifetime. The strengthening is just a loan, it still has to be paid back with half your future earnings.”

What a scam…

“Scam? Your system was kind enough not to charge you interest. Try approaching any bank and see if they would give you a loan without interest.”

I… Fine, our system lady is right, as usual. I’ll take the loan, it’s not like there isn’t a mountain of zombies nearby just waiting to be harvested. I bet I can earn a hundred thousand points just by burning this entire park.

“Seems like our valued host has finally understood the real meaning of coming to this park.”

That’s right, only the whales can get strong…

Chapter 733: The Tragedy of Yamabe Takuma

Author: The Sole Survivor Original Source: SFACG
Translator: CatatoPatch English Source: Re:Library

After a great deal of planning, I finally got Yamabe to eat his shaved ice alone while I quickly took a detour to the washroom.

Obviously a man, my first instinct was to head towards the male washroom, but I was instead intercepted by a wave of that waitress, beckoning me towards the female washroom instead.

Hmm… a grown man like me shouldn’t really be stepping into the female washroom, but if she doesn’t mind… who am I to complain? Besides, I had to use the female toilet back when I worked at the cafe as well. And in the first place, I’m not actually trying to use the toilet… so I don’t need to feel embarrassed at all.

The moment I walked up the door, the waitress yanked me into the washroom. She then stuck her head out to give the area a quick look before letting loose a sigh of relief.

“Hello, let me introduce myself. I’m Chiyo Hanataba, a worker here. I know you aren’t in league with Yamabe, so I’m hoping you can help us out…”

Without waiting for me to reply, she immediately began explaining the situation to me. In short, she wanted me to save the fourteen female survivors trapped in this cafe.

As she kept explaining, her voice only got more excited and harried. Finally, just when it looked like she was about to choke herself, I interrupted her. “Hello, I’m Mo Ke, I’m sure you have a lot to say to me, but first you need to slow down, I will be sure to listen to every word.”

“Right, my bad… So where do I start…”

Now that she had calmed down significantly, I was able to catch a lot more details than before. For example, what was the deal with Yamabe Takuma…

Yesterday, when the zombie outbreak just happened, countless guests turned into mindless zombies in a flash and began biting others.

Back then, Yamabe and his parents were having a break in the cafe. They were your typical family: a mother and a father along with a kid.

Just like the outside, the situation in the cafe was chaotic, with zombies running amok biting others.

It was worth noting now that Yamabe Takuma’s parents were all martial arts instructors. Even though they weren’t SP-powered ancient martial arts users, they were significantly stronger than normal folk.

The heroic actions of the Yamabes were the very reason why the cafe managed to survive the initial chaos. Simply put, they saved the survivors by cleaning up the zombies in Starry Infatuation. Just like that, Yamabe Takuma’s father, Yamabe Narita, naturally became the leader of the survivors. Yet when it all seemed quiet, tragedy struck in the form of a female survivor suddenly turning into a zombie, biting those around her.

Once more, the cafe was thrown into chaos.

Yamabe Narita was a smart man. After a brief discussion amongst the survivors, he soon found out that all the zombies had one thing in common: they had all drunk that serum.

In an ideal world, this was an easy problem to solve. Just isolate those who had drunk the accursed serum to ensure the safety of the other survivors. Unfortunately, not everyone would openly admit to drinking that serum. More importantly, Yamabe Takuma had drunk that serum himself, and he had even been spotted doing so by another survivor.

The moment when Yamabe Takuma was outed by that survivor, the cafe fell silent like cold water had been dumped on everyone. But that was merely the calm before the storm. One of the male survivors was the first to suggest locking Yamabe Takuma up, and that got the ball rolling. First came the murmurs, then questions. Finally, everyone was openly pushing for Yamabe Narita to be a role model for everyone… meaning he had to isolate his son.

After a round of deliberation, he ended up locking his son into the isolation room, for the sake of the greater good. Even if he didn’t want to, he had to lock his son up for observation.

His mother vehemently protested the decision, but she ultimately relented under her husband’s firm persuasion.

However, that sequence of events was seen in a different light for the boy in question…

He did not protest the decision at all, merely accepting his impending doom with stoic silence as he was herded into the isolation room.

There was nothing more loathsome, more disgusting, than the look on those survivors’ faces right now. Those ungrateful wretches had been saved by his family not too long ago… and what was even more unforgivable was that his parents were actually their accomplices!

Betrayed by everyone, the boy started changing from that moment on. Yet he dared not reveal his emotions. After all, he was just a kid who happened to have learnt some martial arts.

At the same time, a young couple was also escorted into the room with him.

In the beginning, the three of them got on well. But after half an hour or so, the couple transformed into zombies and began attacking their former roommate.

Still wallowing in the pain of being betrayed, his condition was less than ideal as he fought the two of them. Yet in spite of the wounds they inflicted on him, he still did not zombify… because he had evolved…

Thanks to his supernatural abilities, he was about to break out of the isolation room, at which point he did not hesitate to kill all the male survivors in the cafe, along with his parents for aiding them.

Roughly around this time, the rescue squad from the nearby police station arrived… The rest was history… he used his powers to put them to sleep before creating that throne…

Shortly after that, I received the mission request from Aunty Xinqing and was dispatched here…

“Betrayed by his parents huh… no wonder I couldn’t see a trace of sadness in him when he said they were dead…”

While his backstory was tragic, such matters were never black and white, especially not in a situation where even their basic safety wasn’t guaranteed. Besides, it was a fact that he had drunk that serum, it was just that he lucked out and avoided becoming a zombie… Unfortunately, with the advent of his powers, he had lost the innocence youth afforded him…

“Sigh… the fickleness of love… whoops, not love…”

Eh? System lady, what the heck are you interjecting yourself for?

“This system is just lamenting the harshness of life. It’s nothing. Our valued host can continue with his playing while the system just does the watching.”

The heck? Then what the heck did you come out for!

Chapter 732: I Have a Bold Idea

“I will give that to you, disrespectful intruders should be punished.” However, the fact that he treated this entire theme park as his own home left me speechless. But there was another matter that puzzled me as well. “According to the information I got, those SAT members managed to send out a message but were quickly cut off. Was that your doing as well?”

“That was me. I originally planned to lure more people down here for my grand plan!” Yamabe Takuma threw a wink at that point, bringing goosebumps to my skin out of sheer disgust.

“A grand plan? What plan?” I anxiously asked the boy, forcefully suppressing the disgust in me. “What are you trying to do?”

“I was planning to lure more people down here and capture them. Once that number gets to a point where the Federation can’t ignore me, I would then make my demands.” Yamabe threw me a lascivious smile at that point. “I’m sure they won’t reject my demands. As for what that demand is…”

“So what do you want?”

Don’t just leave me hanging like that!

Seeing that I was at the edge of my seat already, Yamabe finally decided to spell it out for me. “My request would be for them to deliver the Goddess to my doorstep.”

“HUH?”

Looking at my wide-eyed, slack-jawed face, he couldn’t but smile even wider in triumph. “Hahaha, that’s right. My plan was to stock up on hostages till I could openly demand that they send the Goddess to me!”

“… Is that really necessary?”

“Well, what’s a boy to do?~ I thought my Goddess was still in Phoenix city when I thought of that plan. Who would’ve known that the Goddess was actually right here at my doorstep. What a coincidence.”

Hey, don’t try to act cute on me! It doesn’t work if you aren’t a girl! Will it kill you not to be so cringy?

“So you’re saying all this was just to meet me?”

“That’s right, but since the Goddess is here, there’s no need for me to negotiate with the Federation anymore.”

Speechless… absolutely speechless. Especially that damned smug look on his… And here I was thinking that he had some grand scheme, and I was just some small pawn on that chessboard… but the brat’s just a moron… Hopeless… You better enjoy that shaved ice, because you ain’t getting another chance in the future.

In the midst of me roasting his intelligence, the red-haired waitress came out of the kitchen bearing a bowl, roughly thirty centimeters in diameter, and walked up to us. The bowl was stacked with a mountain of shaved ice, covered in an assorted colorful topping.

It actually looked delicious. With how the world had gone to hell after the zombie outbreak, I never would have expected to be served such a luxurious treat. It almost felt like we were in a different dimension from the hellscape outside.

She daintily placed down the extra-large bowl of shaved ice, then bowed and left.

“Goddess, your order of shaved ice is here.”

I had to admit, her timing was impeccable, seeing as I had run into the awkward problem of not knowing how to continue this conversation. In all likelihood, she had been watching us from the sidelines, waiting for the opportune moment to serve the food. Before leaving however, she quietly winked in my direction, as if to tell me she had something to say as well.

As instructed, she brought us two spoons to eat with. The moment Yamabe saw that, he knew what was up as well and smiled even wider.

“So good, Goddess, would you like some?”

Having said that, he brought a spoonful of fluffy white shaved ice up to me.

Are you trying to feed me? Sorry, but I do not accept being fed by a man, especially not you, that just makes me want to puke…

Naturally, I wasn’t going to say that outloud. But that happy smile on his face really made it hard for me to reject it otherwise.

Up till now, I saw no reason to get rid of him. In fact, his ability was quite useful. Even though he had a screw loose, with his help, it would be much easier to bring peace back to Southern Plains.

Just that ability to put zombies and people to sleep made him invaluable for the cause. With his help, ordinary survivors would no longer have to fear zombies. As for those he couldn’t put to sleep, I could deal with them.

Which means… our abilities are actually made for each other? Blegh! Like hell, I don’t want that! He can be my underling, that’s right, an underling.

Before that, the biggest problem is how to deal with his spoon feeding. I don’t want to be spoon fed by anyone other than a beautiful girl.

If I’m going to avoid that horrific fate, I need to act fast. Yup. That waitress was trying to tell me something just now, wasn’t she? Now’s as good a time as any.

With that in mind, I ducked the impending spoonful of shaved ice, all the while holding back the bile in my throat. I forced out a smile and asked, “I’m feeling a little uncomfortable, is it alright if I visit the washroom?”

“Huh? Does a goddess even need to use the washroom?”

“Why shouldn’t I? What the hell do you think I am, some kind of doll?”

“Well, a goddess like you is in a different realm from us mortals…”

“Thank you, I guess. For that compliment…”

Idiot…

“You’re welcome, this is only to be expected. Goddess, the washroom is that way, let me accompany you.” He had completely mistaken my disgust for praise, and was even about to stand up to lead the way. “This way.”

“It’s alright, this cafe isn’t that big. I don’t think I’ve gotten so bad at directions that I would get lost here.” Biting down on my teeth, I managed to force out another smile, “Besides, I’m the one going to the toilet, why do you have to accompany me?”

“To guard the door, of course!”

Guard the door? Do you think the washroom is some kind of a goalpost or something? Are you the goalkeeper? Do you think this is a soccer match?! This is just a toilet break, why do I need someone to guard the door for me.

Hopeless!

Chapter 731: A Sit Down with a Boy

Author: The Sole Survivor Original Source: SFACG
Translator: CatatoPatch English Source: Re:Library

Thanks to the interference from the flame arrow, Yamabe Takuma wasn’t able to punish the waitress as he had intended. However, that had the unfortunate effect of focusing his somewhat unstable gaze onto me.

Crap, I shot before even thinking. Negotiating is going to be hard now…

“Goddess, why did you stop me from punishing this foolish woman who dared disrespect you?”

“What do you mean by disrespect? She just made a mistake, that’s all. Nothing serious about that, I’m sure everyone has screwed up at some point.” I tried to defuse the situation with a smile, after which I turned to the red-haired waitress and said, “I want a large bowl of shaved ice. A large serving. Two spoons, please.”

I then winked at the waitress and signalled for her to leave.

The other party seemed to have picked up on what I was trying to say as well. “Master Yamabe, if there’s nothing else, I will take my leave.”

“Yes, yes. And be quick about it.” Elated because he thought we were going to share a bowl of shaved ice, he had completely forgotten about the other waitress’s slight. With a casual wave of his hands, he dismissed the two of them, clearly more than happy to be rid of them.

“Now, what should we start talking about? Goddess, what’s your favourite colour? Actually, I will start first. I like black, because it looks mysterious…” Unexpectedly, Yamabe Takuma was a lot more talkative than I had assumed, now that those two waitresses were gone.

“Wait, wait. I have some questions of my own first. Do you mind if we start there?”

I was extra diligent about winking at that waitress just now. My intention was to have her take as long as possible, seeing as I had a bunch of questions I had to ask the boy. Hopefully, she understood my meaning.

“Go ahead, my Goddess. I will do my best to answer as much as possible,” he said with the sparkling eyes of an adoring fan.

“Alright, then here’s my first question: what is up with that mountain of zombies?” I motioned in the direction of that mountain. “I can tell that they aren’t dead, yet they just lie there as if they are hibernating. Is that your handiwork?”

“That’s me, I’m the one who did that!” Yamabe tilted his head back proudly. “I’m an ability user, after all, a bunch of zombies can’t stop me.”

“Really? That’s amazing, there had to be a hundred thousand of those things back there!” I gasped with feigned surprise. Yet no matter how fake that was, he did not seem to pick on that little detail as he basked in the glory of receiving my praise.

“Right, so what’s the deal with these women?” I asked half-jokingly, “Are you trying to start a harem?”

“No, no. There’s only the Goddess in my heart, why would I ever open a harem?!”

“Then where did you sleep last night?”

“On my throne, of course. I made that myself!”

“Wow…” I casually remarked, though my heart was already falling apart. If it wasn’t for the fact that I needed information from him, I wouldn’t even bother pretending to be a girl… although it was a fact that I was officially a girl… but still!

My dream had and always will be to open a harem. Because I like girls! More importantly, I have a little brother. It just won’t stand up at the moment!

“Goddess, you have to believe me, I’ve never touched a single one of them!” Worried that I was beginning to suspect his loyalties, he immediately panicked, even going so far as to swear on his life.

Really, though, what does your chastity have to do with me? I’m just here to extract information out of you. Still, at least the conversation is proceeding well, so far.

“What about your parents? You said they were in the city, why don’t I see them?”

“Oh, they’re dead, I…” His words got stuck in his throat at that point. A strange look flashed across his face as he shook his head. “They are all dead, I witnessed that myself…”

“Oh… I’m sorry to hear that.” I feigned being apologetic. “I thought they would still be alive, seeing how powerful you are.”

He was clearly leaving out something back there. Something’s up… or rather, his sadness wasn’t genuine.

“Haha, I’m not that great.” Yamabe laughed shyly while scratching his head. “But I am strong, and not bald.”

What does being bald have to do with being strong? This boy must be mad, no sane person would talk like this.

“Okay, next question. A SAT team should have passed by this area before they went missing. Do you know what happened to them?”

Having said that, I eyed him warily. Should he even blink when he answered, I would be there to catch it. Then I would dramatically point at him and yell, “You’re lying!”

This time, I was ready to put on the grandest performance of my life…

“Yeah, I know of them.” Yamabe did not even hesitate before admitting that. “They immediately pointed a gun at me when they saw I was alone here. How rude, I hate guests like them.”

“Eh?”

That’s it? You aren’t even going to deny it?

“Where are they now?”

“I dumped them into the mountain along with their exosuits.”

Into the mountain? Did they even try to resist?

I clearly wasn’t expecting the answer I got. But based on the smug look on his face, he was trying to hint to me how much stronger he was than them.

“You killed them?”

“No, I just made them sleep for a while.” He smiled at me once more. “I’m not a psychopath, why would I go around killing people like that?”

I’m not so sure about that… It’s not like a liar would admit to being a liar…

“Why did you do that though?”

“Because they barged into my home, of course. And they were very rude.” He looked at me strangely then. “Isn’t it common sense to discipline someone who was rude to you?”

Shameless Self-promotion
