One of the things I like about the setting for Frieren is that the mages in it don’t sit about twiddling their thumbs when it comes to researching spells.
A spell that the 4 strongest people in the world were completely unable to defend against 80 years ago gets reduced to the level of generic attack magic after it’s researched, and countermeasures are developed and improved. There’s a sense of progress and development for magic instead of everyone just trying to reclaim past glory like you see in other settings.

With the advent of the Steam sale upon us I have to wonder if Baldur’s Gate will go on sale or not.
Obviously there’s a lot of pressure and reason to, but they’re also still in their golden time.
I wouldn’t fault them for not wanting to lose out on the money by staying full price…
But with the game awards people will want them to do a sale…
I guess they will compromise and do a very small discount?

The new Stellaris beta update has essentially lifted its entire core gameplay gimmick from a popular mod wholesale.

New beta update to the tech tree:
– Replaced basic research technologies such as Quantum Theory with Breakthrough Technologies. Breakthrough Technologies will only appear once you have researched enough techs of your current tier and are required to research to reach the next tier.
– Breakthrough Technologies become easier to research based on the number of other empires you have low Tech intel on that have already researched them.
– Enigmatic Engineering blocks your Breakthrough Technologies from spreading.

Popular mod Technology Ascendant:
– This adds thirteen breakthrough technologies, one for each specialization (particles, materials, biology, etc)
– Breakthroughs have a unique spread system, and depending on your relationship with your neighbors you are more or less likely to learn their secrets over time.
– The Enigmatic Engineering perk however will block breakthrough spread.
