Update on Project Gender Bender

It has already been a little more than a year since Project Gender Bender has started off. Just last year on July, the only active project on Re:Library was Demon Sword Maiden.

Since then, we have been able to expand our Gender Bender library with the addition of Dragon Princess, Female Knight & Dark Elf, Not Sure, Another World Reincarnation, Succubus’ Life in Another World, Hero’s Daughter, Life with a Tail, Pupil of the Wiseman, Reborn as a Transcendent, Hero’s Redo, Hero King, and finally Creator God was Enslaved by her Yandare Sister.

Some of which may not do as well as the others, but all the ones I’ve listed are sponsored by our lovely patrons. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to make it this far, so allow me to take this chance to give all the patrons my best regards. Thank you all so much!

I’m making this post today to give you all a quick update on the current situation of our internal team. As you’ve probably noticed by now, we haven’t had any new translated novel published on Re:Library since Creator God was Enslaved by her Yandare Sister was published in April 2020. It has been more than 6 months since we’ve had any new novel, why is that? I will be explaining that in this post.

As you know, I am only one person, I can only do so much by myself alone, and with more than ten translators out there to manage, and some of them don’t submit on time, it’s really giving me a lot of stress trying to micromanage everything. Therefore, I thought it was about time to strengthen our internal policy and replace the unmotivated ones if necessary. With that in mind, I’ve put hiring new translators on hold for a while and tried to get everyone to work together as a team. I’ve since introduced a bonus and penalty system to the team, whereas the ones who submit early will get extra payment and the ones who are late for more than three consecutive months will be fired as well as taking some hit in their payments.

I believe that system worked to some extent, but as I am still a single person and not everyone’s work quality is the same, I am still required to proofread all the work by myself before publishing them on Patreon. Therefore, I’ve also hired a full-time editor to take up half of my workload. While he did help lighten my work for a bit, I still need to proofread his work as I am not fully confident in him yet. I am hoping he will continue to improve and make this investment worthwhile in the long run.

With all those arrangements in place, I believe it is time to move on to the next phase, and that will be to increase the workload of the translators who showed excellent results in the past few months. The translators of Hero’s Daughter and Hero King have shown that they are more than capable of handling their current workload so I am planning to increase the chapter count of Hero’s Daughter to 20 per month and Hero King to 15 by January. That’s 4-5 chapters per week for Hero’s Daughter and 3-4 chapters per week for Hero King on Patreon respectively.

We will also be adjusting the posting schedule on the site itself to include 4 chapters of Hero’s Daughter and 3 chapters of Hero King per week on January 2021. With the increased commissioned chapters of these two novels, our monthly Patreon funding is all but spent, I might even have to go a little into the red but I am hoping that it wouldn’t come to that.

There are a few inhibitions that prevented us from moving forward as much as we wished. With the project being on a standstill for the past several months, our income has also mostly remained at a constant. While that isn’t really a bad thing per se, it also means that we do not have extra funds to distribute around. If you are financially capable, we’d appreciate any and all kinds of monetary support.

If we managed to accrue enough funding, I believe it’s high time we turned one of the teaser projects I’m currently translating into a full-time project. Well, I’m still in the middle of finding more teaser projects to translate tho, so keep an eye out on that.
