We decided to return only taking the Armored Boar’s tusks and as much meat as we could carry.
Unfortunately, I had to leave the excess meat behind. Ideally, I would’ve burned or buried it, but it would take a ridiculous amount of time with the tricks I was willing to reveal from my sleeve.
Even if monsters were to gather around the corpse, it wouldn’t matter much as it was far off from the town.
I was genuinely grateful to have Lullus there to help me increase the amount of meat I could bring back.
◇◇◇
“Yes, this is indeed a tusk of an Armored Boar. I can safely say that you’ve completed the request. Did you find yourself in danger?”
“No. I managed to hunt it from a distance. After all, I’m the genius archer Finis!”
“Sister…”
As I said that with my chest puffed out, Lullus gave me an embarrassed look. I was somewhat sorry, but this was the narrative we had to stick to. And since I was the genius archer, Lullus would be known as the genius wizard.
Rather, she should’ve been thankful I didn’t turn her into a magical girl!
The receptionist clapped politely, and I glanced at her ears—but there was no special reaction, which only made me sad.
“Killing an Armored Boar with a bow at your age is quite the feat.” A male voice echoed behind me, shocking me out of my sadness.
I didn’t feel like turning around, so I decided to ignore it, and Lullus did the same.
“Speaking of which, have any good requests popped up?”
“That’s…”
When I asked, the receptionist didn’t answer but instead glanced anxiously behind me. I had thought this world didn’t have adventurers who would bother children, but apparently, I was wrong.
(Are all Elf adventurers this rude?)
Given that I was standing before the man, it would mean that my way back was blocked, so I’d have to deal with him whether I liked it or not. Lullus, in turn, stood beside me with her eyes closed, implying that this didn’t concern her.
I had no idea why this stranger was choosing to engage with me and not Lullus.
“What do you want?”
“Ah, sorry if I offended you. I don’t actually want anything. I just saw a promising youngling and thought I’d offer some advice.”
“I have some time.”
Looking behind me, I saw that the Elf man was actually quite handsome, which was given for an Elf. But since we were in an elven town, he actually didn’t stand out that much from the other men.
Not that I wanted anything to do with handsome guys anyway. After all, I was a Demigod. Attraction—whether heterosexual or homosexual—wasn’t really relevant to me.
In fact, as a former man, I’d prefer not to be approached by men.
“The name’s Sarok. What is your name, lady, if you don’t mind sharing that is.”
I was shocked by the sudden transition to pick up lines. I admired his nerve; in my previous life, I could never have spoken to an unknown girl with such confidence. But I still didn’t want to do anything with him.
“That’s what he’s asking, but can I trust this person?”
Even though I wasn’t interested, I figured it was worth gathering some information, so I turned to ask the receptionist.
“Yes, Mr. Sarok is a high-grade adventurer who came from the Tree of Spirits a few years ago. Although he is a bit of a playboy, he’s popular and trustworthy.”
“See, I’m no one dangerous. Nothing bad will happen from you telling me your name.
We could even form a party together.” Sarok chipped in.
“I see. But still, I’m not inclined to reveal my name to someone who sneaks around, even if they have a good reputation.”
As I said, I could feel Sarok’s gaze growing a bit darker. I could have been mistaken, though, since he quickly returned to his friendly expression.
“Haha, that’s a strange way to put it.”
“You sure have the nerve to act like a fool even when you just heard that I’d taken down this monster in just one hit.”
“T-That’s… Did I really act like that?”
Sarok checked with the receptionist; she nodded slowly but surely, confirming my stance.
“God… And here I decided to follow the two young women heading into the woods to make sure there wouldn’t be any accidents.”
“I cannot believe that.”
“Okay, okay. I understand. I’ll gain your trust first, then ask you out.”
I watched Sarok leave, seemingly aware of when to back off and then turned to the receptionist.
“Are you okay with this conclusion? I think this was a rare opportunity,” she said.
“No matter how popular he is, right now, to me, he’s just a creep who stalked us into the forest. I really can’t trust him.”
“You do have a point. But, he really is a good person, so consider reaching out for help sometime,” the receptionist advised.
“I’ll think about it. By the way, what is the Tree of Spirits?”
When I asked, the receptionist gave me a surprised look. I glanced over at Lullus, who shook her head, indicating she didn’t know either. It might have been common knowledge here, but unfortunately, we didn’t know anything about it.
The receptionist seemed to catch on and, with a nod, explained.
“Come to think of it, you did come from the outside. You can think of the Tree of Spirits as the royal capital in other kingdoms. It’s where the Elven royalty resides, and it serves to keep this land prosperous.”
“I see. In that case, this will be all for today. I’m heading back, and also please don’t tell that Sarok, or whoever he was, my name.”
After asking that favor from the receptionist, I left the Collegium. Declining an invitation from a well-known adventurer was definitely something that drew attention, but luckily, we didn’t end up standing out too much.
On the way home, Lullus asked, “Do you think it’s fine to leave things as they are?” Her question struck me as surprisingly direct.
