The next day, I headed to the Collegium in the morning. I checked for any hunting requests, but unfortunately, there were none. I could have sold what I hunted, but it wouldn’t be at full price.

Since I had a surplus of large gold coins, money wasn’t an immediate concern, but I still felt like I was clinging to my habits from Earth. It didn’t feel right to just sit around, even while having ample money.

So, I ended up accepting a D Grade subjugation request.

“Armored Boars are still boars, right?”
“That’s right. They’re boar-like monsters. The main difference is that an Armored Boar’s skin acts like armor, which makes it hard to injure with ordinary arrows. In such cases, you’d want to aim for its eyes, mouth, or joints. If you can use magic, then you’d have an even easier time by going with that.”
“Is there any difference in preparing it compared to regular animals?”
“It’s mostly the same as a regular boar, except the skin is tougher, and draining the blood is harder. There’s a seam on their necks. A normal knife can easily pass through there. As for the request, the Collegium requires you to only bring back their fangs. To complete this request, you only need to bring the fang of one Armored Boar.”
“I understand.”

Since it wasn’t too different from a boar, I didn’t imagine any problems occurring. However, I still reminded myself to be careful with the skin. I was intentionally using a bow so that I could go easy on my opponents, but I believed that even with it, I could easily pierce the defenses of a D Grade monster.

“Oh, by the way, you don’t happen to have any animal hunting requests, do you?”
“Are you from out of the kingdom, by any chance?”
“It’s better to say that I’ve been wandering the woods all this time.”

The receptionist looked a bit taken aback. Some might find it charming to hear a beautiful woman say such a thing, but if I were on the receiving end, I’d probably be intimidated.

I couldn’t understand those who enjoyed being on the receiving end of a beautiful woman’s sharp remarks. Not that there was anything wrong with it, but it just wasn’t my thing.

Having said that, if I were to be the receiver of something like that right now, I probably wouldn’t bat an eye at it. However, if I were being scolded by God, I’d probably be down on my knees apologizing.

That aside, I remembered what Lullus had said yesterday about my ears, so I couldn’t help but look around. As I did, I found myself noticing how expressive an Elf’s ears were.

The stunned receptionist’s ears, however, didn’t so much as twitch. Was she just that skilled at hiding her emotions, or maybe they just didn’t move when she was shocked? I didn’t know.

“I believe you’re already aware of this, Miss Finis, but Elves are skilled hunters. So even without official requests, those things tend to get taken care of.”
“Now that you mention it, that makes sense. Is that also why there are so many subjugation requests?”

Given the Elves’ strength, I figured they could handle requests up to B Grade without much trouble. Maybe it’s because there just aren’t that many Elves.

“It’s not like we can’t take care of them, but there are so few elves that we can’t keep up with defeating the monsters.”

And case closed. Detective Finis strikes once again! I knew that my sense of perception was quite good, but I was aware that it was nowhere near enough for the job.

“That’s awful. But it’s reassuring to know the monster population isn’t increasing, so I assume they’re being kept under control.”
“That’s right. Still, we are always grateful to have another pair of hands to help with monster subjugation requests.”
“I’m glad to assist—I need to keep up my earnings too! If any good requests come up, let me know.”
“Of course.”

After bowing to the receptionist, I returned to Lullus. It was then that something dawned on me.

(Come to think of it, Lullus still hasn’t registered as an adventurer!)

I turned to look at her curiously and asked, “Shouldn’t you register as an adventurer, Lullus?”
“I went while you were chatting with the receptionist. I’m in the same F Grade as you.”
“That’s strange given that your stats are better than mine.”
“I know right!”

After joking with one another for a bit, I decided to get a look at Lullus’ status.

Lullus
Age 14 Gender Female
Stamina 45
Mana 65
Strength 30
Endurance 35
Intelligence 60
Resistance 65
Agility 50

She was an elf, so it was natural that her Agility was high, and the rest of her stats also matched those of typical D Grade Adventurers who focused on magic.

In comparison, my stats were lower in magic but higher in physical strength. I’d conjured my stats after first looking at other Elves’ statuses, so I didn’t draw much attention.

Even so, I could feel the curious gazes of those around us, but that also didn’t necessarily mean we were standing out. Anyway, we wanted to avoid standing out any more than necessary, so I took Lullus and headed outside of town to hunt the Armored Boar.

◇◇◇

“Are you handling it, big sis?” Lullus asked as we were moving through the forest, skillfully jumping from tree to tree without even using Stealth.

I was currently using Appraisal to find an Armored Boar, so Lullus’ question caught me off guard. The Armored Boar was still quite far off, so it was unlikely to notice us even without us using Stealth.

Speaking of the Armored Boar, rather than fur, its skin resembled that of a rhinoceros. It was about 1.5 times larger than a normal boar, and I’d have likely filled my pants if I’d ever encountered it in my previous life.

Wild animals were never to be underestimated. After all, people would find it hard to even fend off a dog without a weapon.

The Armored Boar’s joints were hard to see, and on top of them being small, its eyes weren’t constantly open. The dull, small eyes made it seem somewhat cute, but targeting them would be difficult, even for an Elf.

Even I had no idea if I’d hit them without trying. Though I was sure that I’d probably do well.

“I don’t mind doing it, but before that, how good are you at holding back Lullus?”
“I can adjust my strength, but I’m not quite sure what’s considered normal.”
“In that case, I’ll do it. It’s a perfect chance to practice my aim. I’m actually grateful that my archery proficiency isn’t shown on my status window.”

I grabbed an arrow from the quiver on my back, took careful aim, and released it. The arrow sliced through the air with a high-pitched whistle, heading straight for the Armored Boar and piercing its eye.

Another boar appeared shortly after, and I brought it down with a single, well-aimed shot.

“I’m going.” I gestured to Lullus as I quietly approached the fallen Armored Boars.

“Can you prevent the smell of blood from spreading, Lullus?”
“It should pose no problems.”

Apparently, despite being a Spirit of Light, Lullus’ abilities weren’t limited to just the Light Attribute.

Considering how she was able to adjust all of the world’s natural elements by herself, it made sense when I thought about it. Light was simply her primary attribute, the one she was born with and could wield most skillfully.

If she wanted to, Lullus could even create rich soil, but the Spirit of Earth would still be better suited for the job. Either way, thanks to Lullus, I was able to work without worrying too much about other monsters wandering too close.

Using my knife, I pushed it into the joints of the Armored Boar and started draining the blood using my usual methods. Unfortunately, the cheap knife struggled to cut all the way through the tough hide.

(I guess I’ll have to use my skills to create a better one later.)

I could make a knife capable of cutting through the Armored Boar’s hide, but it likely wouldn’t be as good as I wanted it.

Truth be told, I really wanted to make a knife right now, but I preferred not to do these kinds of things when I could be seen by others.
