Alchemist Startover Chapter 98

New Chapter!
Nintendo just utterly destroyed a mobile game inspired by Pokemon, which they had just about enough legal right to do for obvious reasons.
But now they’ve set their sights on Palworld. Yup. Now of all times…
It’s hilarious to me because they haven’t gone in on IP grounds, because I guess they know they have no leg to stand on. Apparently it’s a court case over Patent Infringement instead.
So oh boy, we’re going into the legislation quagmire of copyrighting game mechanics!

And the patent that it appears that Pokemon is trying to use against Palworld is literally “The mechanic of throwing an object at a creature to capture it in a 3d open world space”.
The most basic of mechanical concepts ever.

The development of this chapter gives me mixed feelings, I’ll let you read it and decide for yourself.
I think the world building of this author is pretty decent but they’re not the best at crafting a narrative inside it.
Or maybe the opposite?
It’s hard to explain, but there’s a mismatch in the pieces of this story, and this chapter felt like one of them to me.

Well, I will continue reading (not that I have a choice) and see how things go before passing judgement.

New Chapter!
Because I have been reading while leaning on the arms of my chair more lately, my elbows have become dry and irritated…
It’s not really a big deal and will go away when I stop reading all hours of the day…
But it’s annoying at least on a minor nuisance level to me right now.

Oh well, even if I say something like “I will get some lotion” or whatever, I’ll just forget to use it because my brain can’t handle remembering anything not built into my default routine.

Alchemist Startover Chapter 94

New Chapter!
This chapter was quite short so it surprised me, but a chapter is a chapter! Here it is.

I spent several hours today trying to help the AI in my game achieve its goal in one of the dynamic random events that it can do…
It was very futile of me, I could have done it infinitely faster myself, but I set a limit for myself at the start to not do any combat encounters myself.
So I was trying to provide support to the AI but they just kept getting distracted…

The goal of the playthrough is to help my allied factions conquer the galaxy without building my own military (with the exception of anti-piracy measures).
Mostly so far I’ve done this by supporting their economy, but I am gaining enough money now to start funding their militaries directly… soon, very soon.

It’s September!
Wow, time really flies…
That means it will soon be the new school season here in the UK…
Not that I have gone to school in like an entire decade, but you know, things just remain associated like that.

If you are one of those people returning to school after the summer, then good luck to you.
May your grades be high and face be unslapped.
In the meantime our girls here will be ending their summer too!

New Chapter!
I had a day that started with pure stress today, that was not fun.
I am now having to go through the complaint process with the civil service too…
Also not fun.

But oh well, battles must be fought eventually. I just hope this resolves neatly, worst case scenario and my government support is being cut off…
Autism is no fun when stuff like this happens, literally all started because I said I avoid answering my phone whenever possible.

New Chapter!
So today Amazon finally officially cancelled my order for Arpeggio of Blue Steels next volume.
I made the order in 2021, and Seven Seas just kept delaying its release forever and ever…
I think they have just unofficially axed the translation now, I am a bit gutted, I have been supporting this manga for years.
Oh well, you win some you lose some, at least it’s not a fresh memory and I half expected this fate after all the delays.

In other news the Stellaris board game is finally reaching the stretch to actual release…
I backed it years ago too…

I tried to make an entirely original mod for X4 today.
A simple one… or so I thought. I just wanted to edit some tags so that it would enable the player to build something that has the appearance of one of the NPC structures…
That uh, didn’t seem to work as intended?

There must be some hidden step that I am missing because although I can unlock the items on my character I can’t seem to get them to show up in the build menu for actual placement, and even when cross referencing other mods I can’t find any hints as to what I am overlooking. I really do wonder what it is… Eugh the only place for help is the official forums but I’m really really not a forum person, they always seem to be designed to hate the user as much as possible somehow. I guess the discord exists but… socialising… sigh.

Alchemist Startover Chapter 87

New Chapter!
So I tried to salvage that x4 save and I made some progress.
I figured out roughly what the problem is regarding how the enemy station spawns and how you have to destroy it to stop the raids…

I battled with searching for it all day, but the sector is one of the largest sectors in the game and the variability on the spawn location “outside the sectors edge” just causes too much ground to cover for locating the hive…
So I have given up and installed a long range scanner booster mod…

I found a mod that doubles the base scan range, which feels decent enough that it’s not going to demolish any sense of exploration but also remove all my tedium finding this station
I also found another mod that lets you set scout vessels to permanently explore a sector in a proper pattern, so I can just leave a very fast ship running around in the future for if they build a second station.

Yes… I finally gave in and got mods for the game I refused to mod.

I started playing X4 again today.
My last save was almost three years ago…
I resumed it…

I am being demolished by three years worth of updates applying at once.
I have a massive trade empire but it’s in the middle of crumbling due to the changes to enemy spawns and trade route networks.
The hardest hitting part is the new enemy raid system which I have no active defenses against currently, the heart of my industrial production is being constantly attacked because the older version of the game favoured large static defenses instead of mobile reactive ones. I’ve lost so many mining vessels it will take me a long time to recover the losses, and I’m still losing more because I’m having to learn on the fly how to counter the ways the new systems are exploiting gaps in my setups.

New Chapter!
NNS just announced they’re translating the visual novel Hacking the Moon to Find My Goddess

I’ve known about this one a little while, but I still can’t help but laugh every time I recall the basic plot setting.
It’s set in the near future where humanity has basically offloaded all management to AI, and one student manages to hack into the AI that governs all other AI.
Instead of using this unprecedented power to make himself wealthy, achieve world domination, or live life on cruise control…
He asks the AI which governs the entire world… to find him a girlfriend…
The AIs solution? To build him a custom made android with a full AI.
