Liu Mengqi’s dormitory was a lively hub for four: herself, the school doctor, Yan Aoxue, and Ruolian. Groupings were less about logistics and more about camaraderie. While there were many vacant rooms in the archery hall, they banded together in quartets for safety – a much-needed strategy if zombies ever came knocking.
Li Yixin, the resilient survivor from Yan Jie’s earlier group and an acquaintance of Froggy, had since found company with Chen Fangxiaoling’s pair. It wasn’t so much a formal decision as it was a natural progression.
Now, as neighbors with Chen Fangxiaoling, their groups often immersed themselves in deep, heartfelt conversations, sharing tales of their tribulations.
“This might not be a good idea,” one remarked with uncertainty.
In their downtime, the room had been prepared with blankets. Yan Aoxue and Ruolian were now helping the doctor in organizing the bedding. Every room in the archery hall boasted a fireplace, but the onus of collecting wood fell upon the combat team.
The fiasco with Yan Jie’s crew, especially their betrayal of Anna, still stirred bitterness. The hard-earned resources brought back by the combat team were community assets, and any betrayal concerning them was a stab in the back of everyone, whether literal or not.
Ruolian’s eyes settled on Lin Feng as he was led into the room, appearing unsettlingly lifeless. However, her anxiety wasn’t solely about his current unresponsive state but more about their impending decision to remove his clothes.
“Oh, come on, Ruolian, lighten up! Ever thought about a live anatomy lesson? You know what they say, firsthand experience trumps textbooks,” Liu Mengqi said with a playful wink.
“Besides,” the doctor chimed in, her voice oscillating between jest and concern, “Lin Feng’s running a fever. And it just so happens we only have suppositories on hand, am I right?”
“Right… if that’s the case, there’s no helping it,” Yan Aoxue responded, her cheeks flushing a tad as she noticed Lin Feng’s distinctive fluffy tail. Determined to help, she joined the others in relocating Lin Feng nearer to the fireplace, ensuring he’d dry off faster.
“Ruolian, come on, help us out! You’re going to let Lin Feng suffer from this fever?” Liu Mengqi teased, winking as she playfully moved Ruolian’s hands away from her face.
“Okay, okay. I’m sorry, Lin Feng. This is just to help you out, promise.”
As Liu Mengqi and the school doctor exchanged knowing smiles, Ruolian tried to hide her embarrassment, while Yan Aoxue looked on with a mix of fascination and concern. Time for the show and its main actor to take the stage…
“Who knew guys were built like that? Mengqi, you two aren’t that different, except for a few… obvious parts,” Ruolian remarked, trying to lighten the mood.
Liu Mengqi, noticing a particular mark near Lin Feng’s waist, blushed slightly, her mind drifting back to a previous incident.
“Okay, let’s keep things moving,” the doctor chimed in, her professional demeanor returning as she slipped on a pair of medical gloves. She handed another pair to Liu Mengqi, giving her an encouraging nod.
“Take this. You’ve got this,” the doctor said, handing Liu Mengqi the fever-relief suppository.
“Thanks, doc. I won’t let you down,” Liu Mengqi responded as she received the holy medicine with reverence in her eyes. Determined and ready, as she approached Lin Feng.
Suddenly, Lin Feng’s sharp yelp pierced the quiet room, quickly muffled by the torrential rain outside. The faint cries of distant zombies momentarily grew louder, curious about the sound, but they soon carried on with their haunting march.
