“Junior, I have something important to discuss with you.”
Lin Feng cast a questioning look towards Hao Jian.
“Usually, I rarely get the chance to be alone with you, junior… I’m sorry,” Hao Jian hesitated, his usual confident demeanor replaced with an awkward shyness.
“Is something wrong?” Lin Feng was unaccustomed to seeing the usually carefree Hao Jian acting so uneasy.
“I may be a shut-in, but I’m also an archer,” Hao Jian confessed. “I’ve had some strange fantasies about you before, and now I feel deeply ashamed about them. I promise to make it up to you.”
After finishing his confession, Hao Jian stepped on the accelerator, and the car slowly started moving.
“Is that so?” Lin Feng scratched his head, pondering Hao Jian’s jumbled, nonsensical words. After some thought, he deduced that Hao Jian, after a few days of hotel living, had come to terms with his own male identity and felt embarrassed about his previous doubts.
That must be it, Lin Feng thought, scratching his ear. He remembered how in school, they always slept separately, so Hao Jian and Anna never saw him in his underwear, which might have led to his current depression.
The incident with the golden-haired man had occupied his thoughts for two days, days during which he sometimes didn’t feel like getting dressed in the morning, preferring to stay in bed. Presumably, that was when Hao Jian had accepted the truth.
The atmosphere in the car grew heavy.
Used to teasing Hao Jian with playful banter, Lin Feng didn’t know what to say now. He leaned back in his seat and started to doze off, trusting Hao Jian to wake him in case of an emergency.
Hao Jian glanced at the sleeping Lin Feng and sighed. The morning sunlight bathed Lin Feng’s pale face, who was curled up in the seat, clutching his tail. Why did you have to be a guy?
———-
Stirred by a gentle nudge, Lin Feng slowly woke up and rubbed his eyes.
“Have we arrived?”
“Yes, according to the map, we should be about three kilometers away,” Hao Jian said, measuring the distance with a ruler.
“Why so close? Didn’t I ask you to stop at 4.5 kilometers?” Lin Feng yawned and surveyed the surroundings.
They had left the city center and were now near the riverbank, where various port logistics companies were beginning to appear. Though not skyscrapers, these buildings were still quite tall, usually three or four stories, with signs marking them as logistics centers.
“It’s easier to retreat from here. Even three kilometers seems far to me. How about I wait two kilometers away for an easier escape?” Hao Jian frowned, looking at the quarantine station marked in red on the map.
“No need to get closer; we might get detected. If the military has some sort of advanced technology and they detect you, it would be dangerous,” Lin Feng said as he opened the door and the cold air outside jolted him awake. He quickly scrambled back inside, reaching for his down jacket in the back.
He had forgotten that he was only wearing a white sweater, and his short arms struggled to reach the coat.
Hao Jian handed him the coat, holding it open as if to help Lin Feng put it on.
“Really, don’t let your drowsiness delay the mission,” he said with a toothy smile, approaching Lin Feng.
Lin Feng snatched the coat from Hao Jian’s hands.
“Don’t worry, we came early just to find a good spot for setup. We’ll proceed with the plan tonight,” Lin Feng said, slipping his arms into the black coat and carefully pulling out any trapped hair before opening the car door and stepping out.
