A terrifying surge of dark energy continued to ravage Lordsey’s body. Though he was already dead, the power of the Umbra Arrow lingered stubbornly.
Zane stepped forward and yanked the arrow out.
A string of black damage numbers floated into the air, and a sharp pain stabbed through his palm. Alarmed, Zane immediately threw the arrow aside.
Seeing Lordsey in such a pitiful state, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pity… For the loot, that is.
Seriously? An Epic-tier boss, killed by a cutscene death?!
Not a single drop. Nothing. Nada.
Then… Zane glanced at his skills, deep in thought. The wound from the arrow is smal;. Maybe… maybe I can use Invoke: Revival to bring him back. If it works, we might get a second chance to kill him—and this time, actually get the loot. But the cooldown still has ten hours left… Ugh, forget it. I’ll check what the Bioraptor dropped instead.

| Description | Scales from a Bioraptor. Extremely durable. |
This looked like armor crafting material. Alongside it were two gold coins and a pile of silver—worth nearly 1,000 RMB. Not bad at all for a monster of this caliber. Honestly, if Zane hadn’t been using the hidden class Wishkeeper, even a standard mage wouldn’t have stood a chance against that insane regeneration.
Could hunting Bioraptors actually be a get-rich-quick strategy? Zane looked around with a flicker of hope.
…Figures. Lone spawn. So much for farming a fortune.
“How’d it go!?” Endless Sea finally caught up, breathless.
“That guy got taken out by a Dark Faction NPC…”
“What!?”
…
“Finished turning in the quests?” Nangong asked.
“Mhm!” Snowy jogged over; the other three had already gathered.
“Wait—Snowy, did your weapon change color?” Zaria tilted her head in curiosity.
“I stopped by the auction house earlier and picked up a few things,” Snowy replied casually.
“Gear in the early game isn’t cost-effective. You’ll outgrow it quickly, so buying now’s a waste,” Wanderer said, shaking his head.
“Well… it was cheap, so I just grabbed it,” Snowy said softly.
“Let’s not worry about that for now. I asked around earlier—right now, there are three main grinding zones near Wynwater City: Grayridge Plains, Cloudshadow Valley, and Mapleblossom Grove,” Nangong reported.
“We’ve already cleared the Cloudshadow Valley quests, so we can skip that. As for Grayridge Plains… I heard the Gray Wolves there can call for backup, and you might get swarmed by five or six of them. Could wipe the whole party.”
“Then Mapleblossom Grove?” Zaria suggested.
“Yeah. The mobs there are level 14 flower sprites. Their attack isn’t too high, but the annoying part is the flower poison and vine entanglement. But with antidotes, you can reduce the poison effect by 70%. They’re five copper each—I bought 20 bottles, should last us all day.”
“Not bad, Nangong! I thought all you knew how to do was talk big,” Zaria teased, patting his shoulder.
“Hey, I’ve been playing MMOs for years, you know! Besides, if we don’t start getting serious, Zanny’s going to leave us in the dust. Getting carried every day is getting old.”
“Agreed,” Wanderer nodded.
…
“You failed!?”
“Apologies, Guildmaster. I underestimated them.” FaintTrace lowered his head.
“…So, which bigshot’s alt account are they?” asked the guildmaster, Worldshift, with a calm voice.
“None of them. I’ve never heard of those two before, and their combat style was unfamiliar too. That guy Endless Sea seemed to have just teamed up with them by chance—that’s probably why he leveled up so fast,” FaintTrace explained.
“So you’re saying… they’re unaffiliated right now?”
“Yes. Guildmaster, are you thinking of—?”
“Mhm. We need to invite them into our guild before one of the other big guilds gets to them first. Let’s head out now. Oh—and pick up two pieces of Rare gear as an apology gift,” Worldshift added.
“Come on! I already lost my Wind Necklace, and now I have to buy gifts too?!” FaintTrace exploded on the spot.
“Damn it, if your skills weren’t lacking, would it have come to this?” the guildmaster snapped back.
“…”
…
“Revive him, huh…” Endless Sea muttered in thought.
After a while, he said, “I think it’s possible. Let’s bury him first, though. Wouldn’t want some monster dragging the body away.”
“How do you bury someone?” came a childish voice.
“…” It was like getting struck by lightning. I’m not a lolicon, I just happen to like that type… Endless Sea told himself in panic. Then he pulled out a wooden pickaxe. “Good thing I took Mining as my secondary profession.”
“That’s for digging ore… Are you sure it works on dirt?” Zane asked skeptically.
“No problem. Watch me—” The handle of the pickaxe snapped clean off mid-swing. “Cheap garbage! I’m filing a complaint!”
“…” Zane was speechless. “Forget it. Let’s just move on and keep exploring. That Bioraptor earlier gave a solid reward—maybe we’ll run into another.”
“Someone’s coming,” Starry said suddenly.
Clip-clop, clip-clop—
A girl walked toward them. It was YoyoPink.
“What happened to the goblins…?” She glanced around at the torn bodies and bloody ground. The answer was obvious, but she still asked.
“Uh… that guy ate them,” Zane said, pointing at the dead Bioraptor. “But we took care of it already.”
The girl scanned the area, and the moment she spotted Lordsey’s corpse, she seemed to relax. She ran over to him immediately.
Wait. Zane held out a hand to signal Starry not to attack.
“Mind if I ask—what was your relationship with him?” Endless Sea asked.
YoyoPink didn’t hide anything. She explained the entire situation, beginning to end.
Zane didn’t even know what kind of expression to make. How dumb do you have to be to get kidnapped by goblins and dragged all the way to their lair? And what’s more—she actually seemed to have unlocked some kind of hidden story branch.
It was like how Zane had transformed into a gray wolf and unlocked the Gray Wolf Tribe faction. If this girl kept at it, she might honestly end up earning a title like Friend of Goblins.
Too bad… Lordsey had been pushed to the edge by their group, and then was inexplicably taken out by an NPC from the Dark Faction.
“Badass!” Endless Sea gave a thumbs-up. “Who would’ve thought there’d be another weirdo besides Stardust and Emberveil!”
A chill ran down his spine from a glare nearby. “Ahem. I meant ‘eccentric genius’…” he corrected himself quickly.
Aside from the goblins that kept respawning in Cloudshadow Valley, the Greenrock Goblins were basically done for. Everyone they brought out had been wiped out—including the chieftain.
Zane felt a little bad. “Hey, why don’t you bring his body with us while we level? Might as well.”
YoyoPink didn’t quite catch his meaning. “No need, little sister. I don’t have any combat strength—I’ll just drag him somewhere and bury him before heading back to town.”
Little sister? You’re the little sister! Your whole family’s full of little sisters!
Zane clenched his tiny fists. “If you two were that close, then bring him! We’ll power level you! Who knows? Maybe he’ll be back on his feet by tomorrow.”
Truth be told, this was mostly to test a theory. This girl was a Summoner, and Zane had picked up some things from skimming books at the Class Guidance Halls. She was already well-versed in the two summoning paths.
And so far, no one had seen pet eggs or anything similar. But under high Affection conditions… was it possible for YoyoPink to form a contract with an Epic-tier boss?
