Starry’s expression turned frosty. This sudden ambush had completely disrupted their rhythm— Not only had the boss escaped, but Endless Sea had also lost a level. There was absolutely no reason to let this guy go!

With Thousand Flash Steps activated, Starry dashed toward her target. The Autumn Moon Sword slashed in from a cunning angle, slicing into the fight.

Clang!

Almost as if he had eyes on his back, FaintTrace crossed his dual daggers just before the blade could land, attempting to parry the blow.

In Dreamscape, as long as the angle and force were right, even without a dedicated parry skill, it was possible to achieve a perfect block.

The damage number was significantly reduced—he had managed to block at least half of it! A trace of surprise flashed in Starry’s eyes. She hadn’t expected to run into a player with this level of skill.

But FaintTrace was even more astonished. That strike was way too strong! He had clearly blocked it… but it still almost knocked the daggers out of his hands. Despite that, he gave a cold snort and sneered, “So this is the so-called number one on the leaderboard? Not impressed.”

He used the force of impact to retreat a few steps, putting some distance between them. Spinning around with blades raised, he was ready to respond the moment she advanced again.

“Invoke—” A soft, youthful voice filled with resolve rang out from behind Starry.

FaintTrace’s expression changed instantly. He’d been tracking this group for a while and knew exactly how terrifying those Invoke-series crowd control skills were. Even an Epic-tier boss like Lordsey had been rendered helpless by them!

“Don’t cast it. Leave him to me!” Starry said firmly. Zane’s casting paused.

FaintTrace wasn’t sure what these two were planning, but since the boss had already escaped, there was no reason to keep fighting. If that little girl didn’t act, he had a real shot at disengaging and vanishing before Starry closed the gap.

Retreat! The decision came instantly—that’s what made FaintTrace one of the top Assassins in the server. He feinted a step forward, then spun on his heel and dashed away at full speed!

The Assassin class had 2.5 stars in Dexterity growth, making it one of the highest among all mainstream classes—only Archers came close. Even Swordsmen only had 2 stars. On top of that, he was wearing two Rare mobility-boosting accessories. There was no way Starry could catch him.

She had used a burst-movement skill earlier, but those types always had long cooldowns. He was confident that he could run away!

“Icy Moon Slash!”

A calm, chilling voice rang out behind him.

“What!?” FaintTrace nearly tripped. You’re kidding me—she didn’t even use a movement skill, and a Swordsman actually caught up to an Assassin!?

What he didn’t know was that Starry hadn’t even changed classes yet—and had dumped every point into Dexterity. With movement bonuses alone, she had a +11% movement speed, and out of combat it could spike to a terrifying 31%.

Frost surged up FaintTrace’s body, and in the blink of an eye, he was encased in a solid block of ice—the freeze landed successfully!

Still, his gear seemed decent. Even after taking two hits from Starry, he still had about one-third of his health left.

Slash!

Starry followed up with another merciless strike. The ice shattered. FaintTrace dropped to Level 13 and turned into a white light, returning to Wynwater City. On the ground, a white necklace gleamed—apparently dropped from his inventory.

For the record, players in red-name (PK) status had double the drop rate, a system designed by the developers to help protect regular players.

Wind Necklace
Grade Rare
Required Level 11
Dexterity +12
Vitality +8
Movement Speed +5%
Description A necklace imbued with a faint wind essence. It is said only the fated can obtain it.

What a good item. +12 Dexterity and +8 Vitality—practically top-tier for a squishy Assassin. Too bad he never expected to drop it so easily.

Starry swapped out her Worn Necklace of Dexterity for this new one. Her Attack Power increased by 11, and her HP now reached 710.

Just then, a message came in from Endless Sea.

“Stardust, how’s it going!? Sorry… I couldn’t hold the boss.”
“You did your best. No one could’ve predicted a critical hit like that. Besides… that FaintTrace guy? I already took care of him.”
“…No way. You’re that strong? Even Heaven’s Accord’s top Assassin isn’t your match?” Endless Sea replied in shock.

Starry said nothing in response.

“I’m heading over now!”

The truth was, FaintTrace had lost because of the difference in gear and skill availability. He hadn’t been able to fight at full potential before he got taken out. That said, Starry had full confidence—even if he had been at his best, she still would’ve beaten him.

“Starry, look! The boss left a trail of blood behind!” Zane said excitedly. That meant they still had a chance to finish the kill!

“I’m back…” Lordsey could barely keep himself standing, blood dripping steadily from his body.

“Chief!” The two spear-wielding Goblins tasked with escorting the player cried out in alarm, rushing forward to support him.

“Hurry, bring medicine! The chief is seriously wounded!”
“…But we left in such a hurry, there wasn’t even time to pack supplies,” a club-wielding Goblin muttered softly.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me—just keep moving!” Lordsey ordered.
“But…”

“This trail of blood is bound to attract adventurers, maybe even worse… You all take the side path. I fear if they catch up…”
“What about you, Chief?”
“I said I’m fine!” Lordsey slammed his greatclub against the ground to stop himself from collapsing.

“I can help bandage your wounds,” YoyoPink offered.
“No way,” one of the spear-wielding Goblins rejected firmly. “This human is definitely trying to harm the chief!”
“All right,” Lordsey nodded with great difficulty. If the bleeding continued, he feared he wouldn’t be able to stay conscious much longer.
“…Fine then, but keep a close eye on her!”

YoyoPink stepped closer. Lordsey’s health bar was now barely visible—just a sliver remaining. Normally, a boss should start regenerating once out of combat…

But she made no move to attack. Although their time together had been brief, Lordsey hadn’t left a bad impression on her. And conveniently, back in Beginner Village, an old lady had given YoyoPink some rough linen during a delivery quest. Who would’ve thought it would come in handy now?

“All done~!” YoyoPink looked proudly at her handiwork.

The worst of Lordsey’s wounds had been wrapped with that gray linen—each bandage tied into a neat little bow. And on a stern, battle-hardened goblin like Lordsey… it looked as bizarre as it was out of place.

But YoyoPink thought it looked rather nice.

Apparently, the bandaging had some effect—Lordsey’s health bar began to slowly climb back up.

“…” He remained silent. “You should go.”

“Huh!? But won’t that get you in trouble?” YoyoPink asked, puzzled.

A vein twitched on Lordsey’s forehead. What is wrong with these adventurers? Is their way of thinking just fundamentally different? Shouldn’t she be overjoyed and make a run for it right about now?

“I… don’t want to be their pawn anymore. So go,” Lordsey said firmly.

YoyoPink opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, the ground beneath the nearby gorge began to tremble.

Something was coming—she could feel it.

A magic arrow forged from pure shadow streaked through the air—piercing through mountain, forest, and space itself—hurtling straight toward them!

“Protect the chieftain!” the goblins cried out in a panic.
