“Chieftain! Bad news!” A Spear-Wielding Goblin stumbled into the command tent in a panic.

“What has you so flustered? Don’t forget, you are a proud warrior!” the chieftain said sternly, his voice full of authority.

“I’m sorry… You’re right, Chieftain. I lost my composure.”
“Speak—what happened?”
“It’s the Gray Wolf Alpha! He’s infiltrated our main camp!”

“What!?” the chieftain’s expression darkened. “We’ve always kept to ourselves and maintained peace with the Gray Wolf Clan. Are you certain you didn’t mistake it for a regular wolf?”

“I’m certain! That wolf’s howl carried the aura of a king!”

“Is that so… Understood.” The chieftain rose from his seat, calm and composed. “Gather the warriors. I’ll go meet this Alpha myself. And send two guards to keep an eye on that human.”

He pointed toward the corner of the tent, where a young girl sat—tightly bound, a filthy rag stuffed in her mouth, eyes brimming with tears.

“Mmff… mm!” She tried to struggle but lost her balance and collapsed face-first into the ground. “Ugh…”

“Yes, Chieftain!” the Spear-Wielding Goblin nodded and left.

…

A moment later, a Goblin emerged from the tent.

His armor gleamed and clanked with every step—clearly someone of high status. Zane decided to inspect his status.

The first Epic-tier boss! Zane hadn’t expected such a surprise find in Cloudshadow Valley. The stats were far above anything in the Underground Passage. As expected of a chieftain—miles stronger than his underlings.

“Who’s there!? Come out!” Lordsey roared, grabbing a chunk of stone and hurling it directly at Zane.

What kind of damage was that?! His HP took a serious hit—despite being in Elna form with 63 Defense! Is this the effect of level suppression? No matter. No time to hesitate—time to go in!

Zane stepped forward, chanting, “Invoke — Vines!”

Dozens of thorny vines erupted on either side of him, lunging toward Lordsey.

“Petty tricks,” Lordsey scoffed.

With a nimble roll, he completely dodged the crowd control skill!

What the hell?! Zane’s jaw almost hit the ground. Just how is this guy so strong? I can’t remain passive anymore—

Starry burst in from the flank, and aimed a clean Icy Moon Slash straight at the spot where Lordsey was about to land! With Starry attacking, there was no way Lordsey could dodge in time.

But strangely, he didn’t even try to avoid it. Instead, he grabbed the massive club on his back, which began to glow with the power of Heavy Strike—he was going to trade blows head-on!

No way! With Lordsey’s attack power, if he landed a Heavy Strike, it would almost certainly one-shot Starry.

The moment that realization hit, Zane immediately pulled Starry back, halting her attack just in time.

“Hmph, not even brave enough for direct confrontations?” Lordsey lowered his club and sneered.

…This goblin is seriously asking for a beating.

“Invoke — Frost!” A wave of biting cold swept across the battlefield, chilling the air like a winter storm. This was a crowd control skill that inflicts Slow debuff on any targets within a 20-yard range. As expected, Lordsey had no way to counter this type of soft control. Frost coated his body, and his movement speed dropped by at least 20%.

Annoyed, Lordsey grabbed a basket of stones.

One stone flew first—then two, three, four, five! The stones kept coming, each one arranged in an eerie triangular pattern, hurtling through the air toward Zane.

How the hell is anyone supposed to dodge that?!

“Invoke — Blazing Fire!”

A wall of flame erupted one yard in front of him. As the stones passed through it, they were completely incinerated.

“Whew…”

That was way too close. If any of those rocks had hit, assuming 330 damage each, my entire 5000 HP bar would’ve been deleted on the spot. Is this even a boss designed for players?!

“Oh?” Even Lordsey seemed a bit surprised. He hadn’t expected a human to actually block his Fivefold Throw—that was supposed to be his signature move. In that case… He picked up a bomb the size of a human head and hurled it straight at them!

The moment it touched the fire wall—

BOOM!!!!

The blast sent Zane flying, knocked back by the force of the close-range explosion.

Starry immediately activated Thousand Flash Steps, grabbed Zane, and retreated at full speed from the scene.

What’s going on with this guy?! He’s completely out of our league.

“Chieftain! What happened?!” Several goblins came rushing over, drawn by the deafening blast.
“It’s nothing—just two rats. Get back to your duties.”
“Yes, sir!”

Lordsey watched silently as the two fled, his eyes narrowing in thought.

…

If he had still been in Gray Wolf form, he might have been killed instantly. Zane knew he really owed Elna one for this. He hadn’t expected an Epic-tier boss to be this powerful… or was Lordsey just an outlier?

Throughout the entire fight, they hadn’t even managed to land a single hit before getting forced into a hasty retreat.

Just then, a message came in from Zaria.

…That was a bit of an exaggeration. Also, a small correction: the Gray Wolf was also a person.

“…” Zane didn’t respond right away. He hadn’t expected a guild with hundreds of members like Rainflower to back down from just a verbal warning. It seemed Drunken Fairytale really did have substantial power.

It made him think further ahead— If they ever offended a major guild in the future, would solo players even have a chance at survival?

It doesn’t seem like we can take down Lordsey at this stage… Better to regroup with the others first.

At that moment, Endless Sea also sent a message,

Zane and Starry replied in unison.

…

“Cough… cough, cough cough…” The filthy rag was pulled from her mouth, and the girl choked and coughed painfully.

“Those two just now—were they your ally?” Lordsey looked down at the girl from above.

“…What?” She didn’t quite understand what he meant.

“So, not one of yours…” Lordsey murmured to himself.

“You’re unbelievable! Tying me up and dragging me here for no reason! I’ll have you know—I’ve already chosen a class!”

Lordsey stared at her and said quietly, “Little girl, you need to understand where you are.”

“Where…?” she asked, bewildered.

“…” Lordsey paused, unsure how to explain. Then slowly, he said, “The Light Faction and Dark Faction have been at war for hundreds of years. But in all that time, there’s never been a decisive outcome. It’s always been minor skirmishes… but it’s dragged neutral tribes like ours into the conflict.”

“We were forced into the war, turned into pawns by both sides. And even within our own race, divisions formed. Now, the Goblin race is fractured into dozens of clans.” He stared at her intently, eyes narrowing. “So now you understand… why we hate humans so much?” His gaze bored into her like he was trying to read her very soul.
