When Zane woke up, it was already 3 p.m.
A light rain drizzled outside, yet the streets remained bustling with vehicles—likely filled with people rushing to buy gaming helmets. As Dreamscape continued to expand, word-of-mouth among players spread rapidly, making it the most popular game of the moment.
Pushing open the door, he saw Shiu fully immersed in his grind session.
“Shiu, have you eaten?”
“Yeah, finished earlier. I got you a chicken drumstick rice bowl—it’s on the table.”
“OK, thanks!”
“By the way, Zane, what class did you pick?”
“Haven’t chosen yet… still undecided.”
“What? You’re level 14 without a class!? The monsters around Wynwater City are way stronger than those in Beginner Village. How the hell did you manage!?”
“Eh, wasn’t that bad. Not too hard to fight.”
“…Forget it. Do whatever you want. Anyway, I completed my class change—I’m officially a Mage now! There still aren’t many players who’ve left Beginner Village, so I’m in pretty high demand.”
“Nice!” Zane gave him a thumbs-up.
“Get lost! Let me know when you’re out of that special zone—I’ll come find you.”
“Got it.” Zane nodded.
…
The food had gotten a bit cold, but that didn’t affect the taste. Zane quickly scarfed down his meal, cleaned up, and logged in.
When Starry and Zane’s bodies reappeared, they were still at the far end of the first floor of the underground passage.
A chilling wind howled through the darkness, making the place feel eerily unsettling.
*Click.**
The Magic Lantern flickered to life, illuminating the vast, empty hall.
“Starry? Little Starry? You awake?”
No response. She must still be resting. With no other choice, Zane decided to explore on his own.
To play it safe, he shifted into Gray Wolf form and took the lead. With his current HP and Defense, he wouldn’t be insta-killed. Meanwhile, Starry followed behind, carrying the Magic Lantern.
The staircase ahead was massive, wide enough for at least twenty people to walk side by side. Even with the lantern, its full length remained shrouded in darkness. Each footstep echoed against the stone, making it feel like they had wandered into a horror game.
“Halt!” A hoarse voice rang out—its tone so androgynous that it was impossible to tell if it belonged to a man or a woman.
Who is it? Starry swung the lantern around. As the light passed over the left side, Zane finally spotted a small, frail figure.
Draped in a black robe, their face was completely hidden from view.
A black robe… Could they be the mysterious figure the Gray Wolf Alpha mentioned!? Have we really stumbled upon the final boss after clearing just one floor!?
Thinking about it, though, it made sense. No boss would just sit back and watch players slaughter their entire army. Despite the growing tension, Zane cautiously inspected the figure’s attributes.

| Description | A soul forsaken by the world. |
Elna!? The Wishkeeper that Gray Wolf Mick mentioned! She is still alive!?
“The Skeleton Warlord—was it you who killed it?” Her voice was dry and rasping, as if her throat had been scorched by fire.
This is bad. The Wishkeeper was unquestionably aligned with the Light Faction, yet Elna had disappeared half a year ago. The truth was obvious—she had fallen into the hands of the mysterious figure lurking in this dungeon.
And judging by the sheer number of Skeletons and Undead Wolves, this mysterious figure was most likely a Necromancer.
Elna’s hoarse voice and hunched posture left no doubt— She had been turned into one of them.
This is a disaster. Not only is she level 20—she is an Epic Grade NPC. A prodigy with a hidden class. She is in an entirely different league compared to the Skeleton Warlord.
Moreover, Starry’s consciousness hadn’t fully awakened yet—he had to keep stalling her first.
“Huh? Where is this? I was just in Grayridge Plains a moment ago!” Zane exclaimed in mock surprise while controlling Starry’s avatar.
“…” Elna remained silent.
“This place looks unfamiliar… Seems like we took the wrong turn. Little Gray, let’s go back~”
Zane immediately controlled his body to turn around and retreat. With Starry on his back, he bolted forward.
Boom!
What the…? Zane felt as if he had slammed into something solid.
Looking through Starry’s perspective, he saw a wall of bones blocking their path!
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t say anything… I can sense it.” At some point, Elna had already appeared behind them.
“Grrr—” Zane felt his hair stand on end. What the… She made no sound when she moved!
“Were you… sent by Aegis?”
Aegis? Who’s that? Sheen had mentioned the name before, but Zane still didn’t know their exact identity.
Still, they were clearly connected to Elna in some way. So— “That’s right, we were sent by Lord Aegis.” Starry declared with confidence.
“Ugh—” It sounded as if Elna was struggling to control her emotions.
“Leave.” She raised her hand lightly, and the bone wall collapsed on its own. “Go back the way you came. There is a black stone along the path—move it aside, and you’ll find a passage leading to Grayridge Plains.”
No way… is she really letting us go just like that?
“One more thing…” Her voice sounded filled with sorrow. “Tell Aegis that Elna is dead… There’s no need to think of me anymore.”
To leave or not to leave? Of course not! Earlier, they weren’t sure what state this NPC was in. But now, it was clear— She still retained her own consciousness. That meant she could be reasoned with.
“You seem to be in some trouble. Is there anything we can do to help?” Starry asked, testing the waters.
Elna’s body seemed to tremble slightly. “Trouble… huh…” But she simply shook her head and dismissed them, “Just go.”
“No way. If there’s already an entire army of skeletons on just the first floor, there’s bound to be even more below. For the safety of Wynwater City, we have to clear this place out completely!” Starry declared righteously.
Elna’s mouth twitched. “Clear it out…? With just you? And this wolf?”
“That’s right! You saw it yourself—we already wiped out everything on the first floor!” Starry said proudly.
“…” Elna fell silent again before finally responding, “The second floor is nothing like the first.”
“That’s fine! We’re adventurers from another world. Even if we die, we can respawn infinitely. At the very least, we can give it a shot. Besides, if we can’t handle it, you can always help us!”
“Adventurers?” It seemed like someone who had spent so long underground wouldn’t know what an adventurer was. But she understood the latter half of the sentence. “I… can’t help you. The moment I take action against those things… I’ll be discovered.”
She meant the mysterious figure?
“Don’t worry, just sit back and watch!” Starry patted her small chest—it was surprisingly firm.
Though she had made a bold claim, Zane was absolutely confident. Right now, between both of their characters, their gear was undoubtedly the best in the entire server. Every piece of Rare equipment had been painstakingly obtained, and on top of that, Starry wielded an Epic weapon—Autumn Moon Sword. Clearing the second floor shouldn’t be a problem.
…
AAAAAAAHHHHHH—!!! Zane screamed internally.
He kind of wanted to strangle himself. Why did he have to trigger the flag like that?
Staring at his 45 remaining HP, Zane fell into deep contemplation. Who could’ve guessed that the second floor would be filled with Skeleton Archers and Undead Wolves? This setup was insanely overpowered.
Thankfully, he had scouted ahead with his main body first. If Starry had gone in first, she would have been dead on the spot.
He quickly checked the combat log. Lines upon lines of system notifications filled his screen.
System Notification: Skeleton Archer used Guardbreak Arrow, dealing 94 damage to you.
System Notification: Skeleton Archer used Guardbreak Arrow, dealing 96 damage to you.
System Notification: Skeleton Archer used Guardbreak Arrow, dealing 92 damage to you.
…
If he hadn’t activated Sprint and chugged a potion at the same time, he wouldn’t have made it out alive!
