This effect is definitely not normal, right? Call for Reinforcements couldn’t possibly be this terrifying—this is more like summoning every single gray wolf on the entire plain!

“Maybe it’s because your howl was too pitiful.” Starry analyzed.

So, you’re blaming me now?

“Little brother, don’t be afraid! We’re here to help you!” The leading gray wolf called out.

“Yeah! With so many of us, there’s no need to fear this human anymore. Stop running! We are noble warriors, and no matter the threat, we must not submit. The dignity of the wolf clan must not be trampled upon!”

“Boss, I think this little brother must have his own difficulties. Maybe he’s being blackmailed by that wicked human woman.” Another wolf speculated, letting its imagination run wild.

“I see! Fast runners, flank them from both sides and surround this despicable human who dares to enslave our kind!” The leader commanded.

For reference, outside of boss monsters, regular monsters had a small chance of evolving into elite-tier creatures. These were significantly stronger than normal monsters, sometimes even rivaling bosses, and had a much higher loot drop rate.

A few elite gray wolves immediately broke off from the pack and began circling around—faster than even Zane!

After all, the wolf form Zane had taken on through Shapeshift was just a regular gray wolf, nothing more.

Zane couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. I’m just a double agent, damn it!

“Hey, Xavier, should we… run?” Twelve Degrees asked with a deadpan expression.

“If running were an option, I’d be the first to take it.” Xavier sighed. Even though his class was Knight, that title was meaningless at this stage—mounts wouldn’t be introduced this early in the game for balance reasons.

“So, we just wasted two whole hours grinding for nothing, huh…” Righteous Light sighed deeply.

The gray wolves, seeing no distinction, surrounded the three of them as well. With the encirclement complete, the wolves seemed confident that victory was theirs. The Gray Wolf Alpha stepped forward alone.

At this moment, Starry could finally see its attributes.

Its HP was nearly ten times that of a normal gray wolf, its attack power had multiplied several times, and its defense was even higher than Zane’s attack power! Not to mention, Rapid Stride was likely an enhanced version of Sprint, and that Storm Claw skill didn’t sound pleasant either. This was not a boss to underestimate.

Starry, can you still use a new technique?

“…I’m not sure. Last time, my Star Mark failed. I think my current stats are restricting my performance. And the first time I use a skill, it drains an extreme amount of energy. The reason I disappeared earlier… was because of that.” Starry explained.

Got it. Don’t use it, then. Your body comes first. Worst case scenario, I drop a level—no big deal.

“…But this is all my fault…” Starry lowered her head, guilt creeping in.

Zane was about to say something when the Gray Wolf Alpha suddenly spoke.

“Child, look around you! You are not alone. We are your unshakable support! These humans are already trembling in fear—if you want revenge, now is the time! Show that vile woman the wrath of the wolf clan!” The Gray Wolf Alpha declared, its voice ringing with power and conviction.

If Zane had actually been a member of the wolf clan, he probably would’ve been deeply moved by the alpha’s speech.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t.

In an instant, what was once a sea of hostile red health bars suddenly turned into friendly green ones!

“…” Alright, I guess I am one of them now. Since that is the case, might as well take advantage of it.

“Oh, great king, this woman is not an enemy—she is my pet.”

“Pet?” Not only was the alpha confused, but the surrounding wolves also looked bewildered.

“That’s right. To test her combat abilities, I carried her while running, wanting to see what she was capable of. Among humans, there is a similar practice called beast taming, which is a subclass of the Summoner. What I am doing, however, is taming humans!” Zane was now completely making things up.

“I see!” The Gray Wolf Alpha suddenly understood, but something still felt off. It pondered for a moment and then asked, “Then why did you cry for help earlier?”

“I originally wanted to demonstrate my results to everyone, but unfortunately, there were some mishaps during the process. This human has not yet fully submitted to me, so she ended up injuring several of our kin. This was my mistake, and I am willing to accept any punishment!” Zane spoke while carefully observing the Alpha’s reaction.

Although the wolves were having an intense discussion, the only ones who could understand them were Zane and Starry, who shared a telepathic link.

The other three players were completely clueless.

“Hey, miss, what are they doing?” Xavier couldn’t help but ask.

At this moment, Starry was seething with frustration, barely holding herself back from strangling Zane, This ungrateful traitor. Pet? What the hell?! This sounds like some kind of weird master-servant thing. What’s even more infuriating is that the stupid Alpha actually believed him.

If she weren’t worried about pushing her body too far, she would’ve fought her way out of this situation long ago.

“They’re probably discussing how to deal with us… I think.” Starry forced herself to answer.
“What the hell? These kinds of basic mobs actually have AI this advanced?” Righteous Light was completely dumbfounded.

Suddenly, with a loud howl from the Gray Wolf Alpha, all the wolves dispersed, returning to their original spots.

It works!

“What the hell just happened?” The three players had already resigned themselves to losing a level, but the relief hit them so suddenly that they almost couldn’t believe it.

“They… were persuaded by my pet to leave,” Starry said, smirking.

“Insane!” The three exclaimed in unison.

At that moment, Xavier spoke up, “Miss, do you want to join our party? We’ve got a tank, a DPS, and a healer—we’ll carry you for sure!”

“No need, I prefer solo leveling.”
“Alright then… we’ll get back to grinding. Later~”
“Mm, later.”

…

Whew! Good thing I’m smart—I avoided losing a level! Zane was laughing triumphantly in his mind.

Starry, however, was gritting her teeth. “Who’s the pet?”

That’s not the point here! Can you believe how easy it was to fool that Alpha?!
“Who’s the pet?” Her crisp voice suddenly took on a noticeably colder edge.
I mean, just a few quick words and they all backed off!
“Who’s. The. Pet?”
…I am. I am, alright?! Zane sighed in defeat.
“Hmph, that’s more like it.” Starry finally let it go.

Checking the quest progress, they were already at 106/100—the mission was complete.

Good thing they had finished it before getting surrounded. This special faction system still needed more investigation. There might be hidden benefits, but it was best to tread carefully for now.

“Great! Now those gray wolves won’t dare to cause trouble anymore!” Moss said excitedly.

Gray Wolf Gauntlets? Are they made from gray wolf pelts?

A well-rounded pair of gauntlets, plus an attack-triggered special effect. Though the proc rate was a bit low, it might come in handy in crucial moments. Too bad it required level 13 to equip—he couldn’t wear it just yet.
