Susie ran straight into the forest, heading for several enemies that needed to be destroyed.

She crushed every dog and bat she encountered along the way.

(First off, I need to take care of the ones giving orders to these beasts. The Evil Warwolf and the Evil Warbat. They sure saved me the effort by having Evil written right above their heads! How easy to understand! These guys are the ones directing the dogs and bats. If I take them out, the rest will be nothing more than disorganized rabble. And the worst of them all is this Evil Warrat! But first, I must crush the dogs and bats quickly!)

A squeaky voice sounded at Susie’s shoulder.

“Argernon? Are you sure about this? Shouldn’t you be with Bibi?”

Its squealing seemed to imply that it was no problem!

“In that case, staying on the outside will be dangerous. Come in here.”

When Susie pointed to her chest with a finger, the rodent let out a single squeak and dove right inside.

“Ah! T-That’s… d-don’t move around so much… Okay?”

Argernon looked up at her with a curious twitch in its eyes. It was amazing that Susie managed to keep her composure even while being this embarrassed.

She had plunged into the woods less than a minute after leaving the school. The closer she got to the target, the more shadow dogs she encountered, but it didn’t matter. She cut through them all and pushed forward. Flesh and blood scattered across the forest, but Susie skillfully avoided every spray; her clothes remained spotless. And just then, the first target came into view.

(Found it! The Evil Warwolf!)

It was a two-meter-tall black wolf standing upright on two legs. It didn’t even have time to register Susie’s presence. To him, it might have felt like nothing more than a slightly stronger gust of wind. However, by the time the wind passed through, his body was already sliced into random pieces, reduced to nothing but flesh and blood. There was no chance for him to realize Susie had even passed by.

Susie turned and came to a stop right at the spot where she had just carved the Warwolf to pieces. At the same moment, the remaining shadow dogs around her were reduced to flesh and blood, scattered across the ground.

Susie remained still, looking up at the sky to the west. Bats were swarming above. Among them, one large individual stood out.

(Found the Evil Warbat! Maybe I’ll just blow them all out. They’re up in the sky, so it should be fine, right?)

Susie aligned the tips of her two swords, aimed at her target, and unleashed her skill.

“Shatter!”

Impact Storm. Duel Barbarian Deification Skill. Long-range attack that sends sword chi flying towards enemies, striking the target and damaging foes around it.

With a quiet burst, the Warbat was blown away, along with the surrounding bats. Only black dust could be seen dancing in the air where the skill had detonated.

And then, one more target remained. Susie carefully focused her chi on a figure floating a short distance away and aimed.

“Blow up!”

With her chi compressed to its absolute limit, she fired with precision. The attack crushed only the target’s lower half, just as intended, sending it tumbling to the ground. Satisfied with the result, she exhaled deeply, releasing her breath like a sigh of relief. She was pleased with the precision of her chi control.

Just as she was about to move on to the most important target, she sensed several presences approaching.

(Aren’t these the Shadow Ghouls I massacred at the school earlier? Are they coming straight for me? There are so many of them. Huh? Another Elder Vampire? Was this one in the school earlier? There are a total of four of them. Good grief! I don’t have time to be playing around with them!)

Susie planted her hands on her hips in frustration, her breath snorting out through her nose.

With a powerful swing, she released a shockwave of chi from her sword, scattering the Shadow Ghouls just as before. Then, she quickly fired at the vampires charging toward her. One, two, three, she shot them in rapid succession, each strike detonating its mark. The last one had closed the distance, so she dashed forward in a single breath and brought her sword down with force, demolishing the enemy.

“Okay, finished! Damn it, I ended up wasting some time on this!”

Susie immediately took off running from that spot, heading toward the location she had marked as her final destination. And then she realized it right away.

The closer she got, the louder the rustling grew, an overwhelming sound, echoing around her like a massive chorus. The forest was choked with the sweltering scent of beasts. The darkness wasn’t just a stain upon the trees or soil. It overlapped in waves upon waves, spilling and falling over itself. It was like a pulsing black presence, writhing repulsively. Within that seething mass, countless red lights flickered like tiny flames.

Mad Lemmings.

Each was about 30 centimeters long, one or two times larger than Argernon. Their fur was pitch black, and their red eyes burned with a frenzied intensity. Their fangs were long and sharp, easily capable of tearing through a child’s leather armor. There were approximately 12,000 of them. They waited there, wriggling, ready to surge toward the village at the first command. And the one who would issue that command…

(Evil Warrat!!!)

Just as Susie was about to confront that final enemy

Argernon began to flail around in her clothes, screaming.

“Ah! No! Hya! Aaahhh… Nooo!”

Susie’s hips buckled, and she collapsed to the ground.

“Stupid! Argernon! Don’t move! Didn’t I tell you already?”

Squeak, squeak!!

“You shouldn’t move!”

For some reason, Argernon wriggled out from Susie’s chest, which was now trembling, and popped up near her face, squeaking, clearly complaining about something.

“What? You knew these guys were here, didn’t you? Isn’t that why you came? So, why are you panicking now?”

Susie asked Argernon, her cheeks slightly flushed and her breath uneven.

Squeak, squeak!!

“What? You didn’t expect there would be this many?”

Squeak, squeak!!

“This is bad? I should hurry up and run away with everyone?”

Squeak, squeak!!

“I came precisely because it was bad! If you’re scared, you can go back!”

Squeak, squeak!!

“In that case, get in here and stay quiet! And don’t move! Once we’re done with this, I’ll play with you properly, okay?”

Squeak, squeak!!

“Yes, I promise! But for now, please, just don’t move. Okay?”

Squeak, squeak!!

“Let’s go then!”

Susie stood up and clapped her hands in front of her chest, as if to reset herself. Then, she grabbed her two silvery white swords once more, one in each hand, and started running toward her target.
