William and the others hurriedly raised their shields and summoned stone walls to protect themselves, but the black spears tore through their defenses. They pierced, shattered, and demolished the training area’s walls and roof with brutal force. The supposedly solid structure crumbled beneath the onslaught, collapsing with a deafening roar.

“W-What is going on?! How did the training area’s walls fall so easily?!”

Irvine muttered in disbelief as he stared at the wreckage of the training area’s walls. Inside, the younger children from the middle and lower levels stood frozen, speechless at the destruction.

“Hey, hey, do you think I can mess with them a little?”
“What are you saying, Doug? Did you forget Master Orbet’s command?”
“I haven’t! Of course I remember it, but… How can I resist after seeing all of this…?”
“I get you. The lick I got earlier was nowhere near enough. But there’s less than an hour left. Can’t you bear with it? It’ll be way tastier afterwards.”
“I know! I know, but… Look! How about this much?”

As he spoke, Doug casually lifted Fiorina’s arm with his left hand.

“Please, just a taste. I’m the one preparing the food, so it’s okay to at least get this much, no?”
“Stop! You know Master Orbet is watching, don’t you? He’s very kind, so I’m sure he’ll forgive you… but wouldn’t it show your loyalty better if you followed his orders properly?”
“You’re right. You’re correct. Okay then! But it’s fine as long as I don’t kill her, right? That way, I wouldn’t be breaking my word!”

“Good grief. Do as you please!”
“Hehehe. It’s fine! I can control myself!”
“I wouldn’t exactly call this controlling yourself.”
“She’s been right in front of me ever since I got here. I’ve been holding myself back this entire time, save for the occasional taste here and there! This big sis is really delicious, you know!”

With a gleam in his eye, Doug raised Fiorina’s limp arms overhead and brought her head, hanging weakly, in front of his face.

“Ahh. I can’t resist this smell.” Grinning widely, Doug extended his long, blood-red, reptilian tongue and moved it slowly from Fiorina’s shoulder up to her neck.

“Ugh…” Despite being unconscious, Fiorina let out a faint, muffled moan.

“I’m digging in, okay? Any moment now! Hehe!”

Doug gripped Fiorina’s left arm with his left hand and lifted it high. With his right, he seized her hair roughly, pulling her head back to expose her pale neck. Then, without hesitation, he sank his two small, knife-like fangs deep into the flesh of Fiorina’s young neck. A wet, sickening sound echoed as her skin tore beneath his bite.

“Argh… Hii…”

With every gulp Doug took, Fiorina’s body twisted in agony. Painful, gasping moans slipped from her lips as her body writhed involuntarily.

“F-Fiorina?!”
“W-What?! What is he doing to Fiorina?!”

Clark and Ashton, the twin brothers, emerged from the rubble of the training area and stumbled to Dana and the others’ side. Their wide, horrified eyes locked onto the horrific scene unfolding in front of them.

“You two! You shouldn’t come out! Get back!” Corin spotted them and shouted for them to retreat, but the twins didn’t hear her.

Starting this year, Clark, Ashton, and Fiorina were all students from the sixth level.

While Stephan’s mischief had been more noticeable lately, the twins’ antics were equally troublesome. Their bold, often chaotic pranks, birthed from their spectacular combination, had caused no end of headaches for teachers and upperclassmen alike.

Fiorina had always scolded them gently and stood up for them when needed.

The Smith and Attlee families lived close to one another, so the trio had been together since before they could even remember.

Fiorina’s nurturing nature likely developed from looking after the mischievous pair ever since they were young. Fiorina understood them, and the twins were no match for her.

Fiorina could always tell what the twins were planning, and the twins, in turn, could tell when Fiorina was really angry. They could understand one another without even needing to talk. Even now, Clark, Ashton, and Fiorina remained as close as siblings.

Now, Fiorina was being held in front of them by someone they didn’t even recognize. They didn’t understand exactly what was happening, but one thing was clear. Something terrible was going on.

Fiorina’s complexion had gone pale. No matter how they looked at it, this wasn’t good!

“ “Aaaaah!” ”

The twins, Clark and Ashton, burst out together.

“Stop it, you two!” William immediately leapt into action, but the distance between him and the twins was more than a few dozen feet. He charged after them as fast as he could, but the distance made his face twist with frustration.

“ “YOU B̲A̲S̲T̲A̲R̲D̲!!” ”

Both were armed with short swords and round shields. Both had their shields held up as they charged.

As they moved, a shadowy beast, one of the Shadow Dogs, lunged at them from the front.

Clark slammed his shield into the creature’s snout with all his strength. At the same time, Ashton thrust his short sword, brushing against Clark’s shield with a precise motion. After which he pushed his shield forward at the Shadow Dog,
while Clark slipped behind and swung his blade from behind Ashton’s shield. They moved with practiced coordination, shifting between offense and defense, left and right, up and down, creating a combination attack that had been born from their bond as twins.

But their attacks were sadly only effective against the Demonic Beasts from the shallow parts of the forest. They found it hard to show any results against a foe several times stronger than they were. The twins’ attacks couldn’t even pierce the beast’s fur. And worst of all, the numbers weren’t on their side either.

Before they realized it, a Brutal Bat’s powerful, razor-sharp talons swept in from not that high above them. Its claws ripped through Clark’s back, tearing up to the back of his head, shredding flesh, and then flying away.

“Argh!”
“Clark! Aaagghh!”

A second Shadow Dog lunged from the side and slammed into Ashton, its jaws clamping down on his head and driving him into the ground.

“You! Move!!!” William arrived a moment too late. Without hesitation, he brought his short sword down on the head of the Shadow Dog gnawing at Ashton’s skull. Having one of its eyes snatched by the blow, the beast recoiled in pain. William followed up by slamming his kite shield into it, sending the creature flying backward.

Shield raised, he stepped forward to cover the fallen twins, swinging his short sword to keep the enemy at bay. Lombard appeared beside him moments later, taking position with his shield raised, ready to fight.

“Get them to the back! Corin, heal them!”

As William yelled, Dana and Irvine rushed in. Each scooped up one of the unconscious twins and carried them to the back. Both boys had lost a frightening amount of blood and were currently unconscious. William spared a quick glance at Dana and Irvine to check that they were safe, after which he turned his gaze to the two vampires in front.

“See! They’ve already started over there! Let’s just roll with it!” Doug, who had already moved away from Fiorina, was speaking cheerfully to Eliza.

Fiorina was set aside at his feet, treated like a broken doll Doug had grown bored with.

“She won’t die, will she?”
“She’s fiiine! She’s barely breathing, see? She’s safe! Ahaha!”

Eliza shot Doug a sharp glare, her eyes fixed on Fiorina’s pale, lifeless-looking body. Doug, unfazed, simply made a lighthearted gesture in return, as if brushing off her concern.

“You scum!” William stood frozen for a moment, grinding his teeth at the sight. But there was no time to dwell. He and Lombard were steadily being pushed back by the unrelenting Shadow Dogs.

“Willie! Take care of Ashton! Clark is in bad shape! Ah! No! He won’t stop bleeding! Bibi! Lend me a hand! Bibi?”
“What’s wrong, Bibi?”

Beatrice wasn’t responding at all to Corin’s pleas. Irvine noticed something was wrong and rushed over.

Beatrice had sunk to her knees, hugging herself tightly as she trembled.

“Argernon… Argernon… will die.”
“!!!”
