“What’s wrong, Child Eater? You aren’t scared by any chance, are you?”
“You old b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! You crossed the line! I’m going to kill you! Master Orbet!”
“Ha! Are you really okay with this, Child Eater? Sending such small fry at me?! Do you really think they can stop me?!”
“Don’t push your luck, you human scum!”

“Leila, Lawrence, calm down. He’s trying to provoke us so that he can distract us and send his men into the village. Don’t play along.”
“Hmph! It seems like this mountain leech has some brains after all.”
“YOU! Ahab! He’s mine! Die, you old b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲!”
“Stop it, Leila!”

The vampire named Leila ignored the warning and sent shadows hurtling toward Howard.

Howard immediately channeled mana into his gear. In an instant, the magical markings on his equipment lit up, forming a flash of light. The next moment, Howard’s form blurred just as a spear of shadow tore through the space where he had been.

“What?!” Leila’s eyes widened in shock. But then, she quickly realized that something was happening and moved away. A streak of blue light slashed through the spot where she had just stood. It was the sword flash of Howard’s Zweihänder, wrapped in holy energy.

“Tch! What’s the deal with this old man?! What’s up with those movements?! Is he really human?!”
“That’s why I told you to wait, Leila. He’s the Gray Iron Demon. Don’t fight him head-on.”
“What? This old b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ is the Iron Demon?”

Leila bared her fangs and clenched her teeth tightly in frustration.

“Hmph. It seems like you’re at least good at running, vampire! You’re good at sneaking around and hiding in the shadows, aren’t you? Do you enjoy acting like lowly pests? Huh?!” Howard flashed a savage grin, continuing to taunt her.

“You… don’t get cocky!”
“Lawrence, stop this already!”
“We just have to surround him! Barney, lend me a hand!”
“Have you already forgotten about me?”

Ryder’s armor gleamed as he appeared right next to Lawrence. The knight’s sword in his hand glowed with golden light as he channeled holy energy into it, then slashed in a single, clean motion.

“What?!” Lawrence tried to dodge as fast as he could, but he was a moment too slow, and his left arm was severed cleanly at the elbow. “ARGH!”

“Lawrence! Ahab, what’s going on?! Why are there two people this proficient at using holy energy here?! Explain!” As Lawrence staggered backward, the vampire named Barney caught him and turned to Ahab with clear irritation.

Lawrence quickly regained his footing. Before his eyes, the severed portion of his elbow, cut off by Ryder, had already regenerated.

“He’s the Vampire Slayer from the west. Stay on your toes.”
“Damn it! Is he really?!”

Lawrence stared at Ryder, moving his left hand to test his now restored arm.

“You let your guard down, Lawrence. Don’t you agree, Ahab?”
“Putora’s right. We’re Master Orbet’s pawns. Don’t let your emotions control you.” Ahab said.

The vampire named Putora, her long silver hair swaying behind her, stepped forward and gave Lawrence a cold, disapproving glance before agreeing with Ahab’s comment.

“Ahahahaha! Lawrence! Lawrence! It seems like you’re struggling!” Orbet let out a booming laugh as he called out to the pair standing before him.

“Master Orbet!”
“I apologize, Master Orbet!”
“Why don’t you step out to the front, Child Eater? At this rate, it won’t be long before we dispose of your pawns.”
“You!”
“Old man!”

“Ahahaha! You sure are spirited. I like this. You’re not the first person to come at me with that kind of confidence!” Orbet spoke with Howard, calmly raising a hand to hold back his subordinates’ outrage.

“Oh? Then I might as well be your final opponent.”

“Ahahahaha! You sure have a way with words! But see, I don’t have any interest in geezers! So, I’ll let my children deal with you!” Orbet said, spreading his hands and shaking his head in disappointment. “Besides, watching from here is far more entertaining! My children are dancing so beautifully right now. They’re so cute, and it’s so fun, I just can’t contain myself!”

“You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! What are you doing?!”
“That’s it! That’s the face I love to see… One hour!”
“What?”
“The sun will set in less than an hour. Afterwards, it will be our time. The feast will begin!”

With a dramatic flourish, Orbet threw his arms wide and declared loudly.

“I gave my children only one order. It was not to kill anyone until the sun goes down. After all, this is a feast, and it would be rude to eat before it begins. Don’t you agree? Fufu!”
“You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲!!!”
“They’re all following my instructions nicely. The little ones hiding in these children’s shadows would’ve loved to sink their fangs in already, but they’re holding back, only using their claws! Isn’t that wonderful?!”

As Orbet let out a low chuckle, several black shapes slowly emerged from his shadow. They had warped forms, resembling creatures with crocodile-like snouts and jagged fangs.

“A Shadow Ghoul!”

Shadow Ghouls were man-eating monsters that dwelt in shadows. Formless entities that could not survive where sunlight reached. They were true inhabitants of the shadows. Right now, several of them have appeared.

“Master Orbet! Master Orbet! Please forgive me! I almost broke your order!”
“It’s fine, Leila! You did well holding back. That’s why you’re free to do as you please once the time comes!”
“Thank you very much, Master Orbet!”
“You always go easy on Leila, Master Orbet.”
“Really? But you’re all just so adorable to me!”
“Oh, Master Orbet!”

Orbet gently caressed Leila’s cheek, his touch soft and strangely affectionate.

“So, until nightfall, you’re free to go to the school or wherever you want. We’ve already surrounded the place anyway. A couple of skilled fighters won’t make a difference.”

Orbet turned to Howard and the others, gesturing casually with a flick of his hand, permitting them to do as they pleased.

“You impure b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲s̲!” Ryder yelled, his disgust evident.

“So that’s how it is! I’ll enjoy the show until the time comes! I still fondly remember that red-haired girl from the last time I came. She put up quite a fight. It was incredible! The taste of her throat as she thrashed, refusing to give up even to the end—ah, it was exquisite! I can’t! Just thinking about it has me drooling! Haha! It would be divine if I got to experience a child with a similar taste. I truly cannot wait! Ahahahahaha!”

“You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲! You! You!!!”

Fury etched deep lines into Ryder’s face as Orbet’s words pushed him to the brink. Laughing in pure delight, Orbet suddenly unfurled massive, black, menacing bat wings from his back and lifted into the air.

“Come back! Don’t run, Child Eater! Come back! Come back down, I say! Child Eater!!!” Howard raised his fist and screamed in frustration. His voice, thick with rage, echoed across the Amukham Forest, reverberating through the trees like a warning.

  • School — In Front of the Training Area 16:55

“It’s done. I’m activating it, okay?”

Eliza spun the activation device she had been toying with in her hand and began channeling Mana into it. A magic circle appeared on the ground, gradually expanding to cover the entire school grounds.

At first, it glowed with a bluish-white light, but the light soon began to twist and distort. Within moments, the circle darkened, turning into a venomous, blood-red hue.

Above them, a honeycomb-like, transparent structure assembled itself in the sky, forming a dome that enclosed the entire school. Once fully formed, the dome shimmered briefly before becoming invisible; an unseen barrier now surrounded the area.

“With this, the enclosure is done.”
“Then we should start preparing the food. There’s no time left.”

After Eliza clapped her hands as if to signal the start, countless black spears spawned from her and Doug’s shadows, after which they shot up.

After reaching a height of about five meters, the spear tips turned downward in unison, aiming directly at William and the others. Before they could even react, the spears shot toward them at incredible speed.
