“Ahahahahah! Say. Are you feeling regret? Sadness? Tell me. How are you feeling? How? Ahahahaha. Of course, you’re sad! Of course, you’re frustrated! Ahahahaha!!! After all, your mind is that of a child. It can’t be helped! Ahahahaha! This is way too fun!!!”
“You b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲!”
“Don’t mess with us!”

Irvine and Dana seethed with rage, their hands tightly gripping their weapons, faces contorted in fury.

“Corin. Your decision wasn’t wrong in this situation. You’ve done nothing wrong! I’m the one to blame! I’m the one who allowed Stephan to go. I was the one responsible for this place. The whole responsibility rests on me!”

William placed a firm hand on Corin’s shoulder, saying that the whole blame fell on him.

“Will… Will… But, but I…”
“Corin! Regret and remorse can come later! They’re still planning something!”

At that moment, the silver-haired girl tossed Alan and Belknap’s bodies carelessly to the ground. She then licked their blood from her hands, a blissful expression spreading across her face. She sucked and licked every drop from her fingers, even the ones dripping from her wrists and clothing, as if savoring each moment.

“Delicious! Irresistible!” Her voice, full of eerie satisfaction, echoed with a chilling tone.

Even after she had nearly finished licking the blood off her hands, the silver-haired girl regretfully held out her right hand, still licking and sucking on her left fingers, savoring the last drops.

“Doug, hand it over. I’ll finish this quickly.”
“We’re trapping them already? They did ring the bell, so I guess it’s fine.”
“We can’t have them waiting too long. Timing is important.”
“Remind me, who’s the one that’s having fun now? Well, fine.”

The boy, Doug, handed her the barrier device. By now, the Shadow Dogs had settled quietly around the boy and the girl. The Brutal Bats seemed to be flying around the school building, waiting for their next order.

With 13 Shadow Dogs and 9 Brutal Bats, more than 20 beasts in total, William could only bite his lip, knowing this number was way too unfair.

“Hey, Doug, they seem like they want to know what we’re about to do now. How about we tell them?” The girl fiddled with the barrier device, clearly enjoying the suspense, and urged Doug to explain.

“Really? You’re right! We must tell them what our plans are going forward. I agree!” Doug nodded vigorously, the excitement practically bubbling out of him, before he began to explain.

“I’ll tell them then! Be sure to listen carefully, okay! Right now, Eliza, um, this girl here, is working on modifying the barriers! Until now, the barriers were designed to keep out anything with hostile intent, right? But now, she’s made it so that the barriers still have the same strength, but they won’t allow you to exit or enter unless you’ve received our permission first! In other words! You can’t exit this place! Of course, this also means that help can’t get in! Ahahaha! What do you think? Cool, right?”

“What?!” William and everyone else were lost for words.

“It is just so useful for trapping things in! There was no way we wouldn’t use it! Ahahahahaha!” The vampire Doug’s laughter filled the air.

“This is bad! If that’s the case, then it won’t matter even if we stall for help!”
“Let’s focus on defense. Bibi, cover the training area with your Rock Wall. I’ll deploy a Flame Wall on the outside with maximum firepower.”
“That won’t work, Willie! If we do that, your Mana will be drained in a flash! We’ll lose a healer! It would be more efficient if I use my Barbed Cargo in succession!” Mia said.

“Your magic is better suited for attack. I can’t say that using offensive magic for defense is a smart strategy.”
“I’ll clear our way out!”
“Dana! What are you saying?! Have you seen their numbers?”
“I know, Corin. But it’s not my nature to hole up on the defensive while waiting for the end! This is not the path a woman from Amukham should take!!! I’ll fight my way out and take down as many enemies as I can!”

“I agree with Dana! The men from Haggard aren’t ones to shy away from an enemy!”
“Irvine… You can’t! Stop it!”
“Don’t worry, Bibi. I’ll protect you until the end!”
“No! I don’t want that!”

Just as the children were beginning to burn with determination, a small animal’s eyes peeked out from Beatrice’s shoulder. It was making sounds, trying to tell Beatrice something.

“Argernon? What is it? What—you’re going to welcome her? You know where she is? Wait, what? You’re going to get Su?!”

Thanks to Argernon’s sensory perception, he could share his senses with the small animals in the village. Using this ability, he was able to detect movement in a wide area around the village. Just now, Argernon had managed to sense that Susie was trying to get back to the village.

He squeaked and squeaked, repeating, “That’s right!” as he happily ran circles around Beatrice.

“Big sis Susie is coming?” Helena Slater muttered with wide eyes.

“Argernon! Can you go? Can you bring Su here?”

Everyone stared at Argernon while holding their breath. Argernon stood on his hind legs, his tail raised high in the air, and let out a proud, single cry. Everyone exhaled heavily at the sight of this.

“If Su is coming, then…”
“Yeah, it’s still worth it to stall for time!”
“Our win condition is for no one to die! I hope you understand that, Irvine, Dana!”
“I do, I do… Haha.”
“Argernon, can you go right now?”

“Kyu!”

“Good! Give me just a moment! Air Walk!”
“Me too! Magma Vital!”
“Don’t forget me. Air Guard!”

Argernon received support spells from the three, strengthening his body.

“Argernon! Please bring Su here!”

Argernon let out a single cry and immediately dashed away like a gale. One of the Shadow Dogs noticed the movement and started running in the direction Argernon had taken. A Brutal Bat also swooped in to follow.

(Argernon, please! Please be safe!)

Beatrice prayed. As she pressed her clenched fist to her forehead, Irvine gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

Argernon ran, carrying the children’s hopes with him. He could not allow Beatrice to suffer any more sadness.

That girl, who always spoke so harshly, was someone with a kind heart, someone who thought of others more deeply than anyone else. Everyone understood that her blunt attitude was simply a mask for her shyness. It was what made her personality so beloved. Whenever her friends were hurt, her heart filled with a cutting pain and deep lamentation. Even now, her heart remained choked with sadness.

Argernon knew better than anyone how deeply tender her heart truly was. He knew this because he was her familiar and was linked to her heart. He could not let Beatrice grieve and suffer any longer!

He knew where Susie was now. He had a good idea of where she might be headed. So all he had to do was run straight toward her, as fast as his legs would carry him. Tail raised high, Argernon sprinted faster than the wind, racing toward Susie!
