“Su, please come to the training area today!” Cara said abruptly during lunch. “We are graduating tomorrow. I’ll still be here for the summer, but today is the last day we can have a hand-to-hand spar at school.”
Susie had spent all five days of the previous week completing contracts with all attributes. Yesterday, at the beginning of the week, she’d spent her time going through trials for each attribute under a priest’s guidance.
(I guess this might work as a break from my Magic training.)
Susie thought as she munched on a clubhouse sandwich filled with thick roast beef. The delightful combination of beef and mustard brought her a moment of pure happiness.
“I won’t make this out to be the last time we’ll make memories together, but still. How about it?”
In truth, Susie’s skill in ‘holding back’ had improved significantly after dealing with Stephan over the past few days. She’d gained considerable confidence in her ability to envelop herself in a gentle Chi so that she didn’t harm her opponent.
Susie called this skill Friendly Fingers.
(With this, I’m positive that I won’t end up accidentally hurting my opponents!)
Susie thought to herself.
“Okay… Today… come!”
“Really?! YES! Su! I’m so happy!!!”
Dana exclaimed, hugging Susie enthusiastically.
“Can’t… breathe!”
“What? You’re really going, Su? Then I should come as well! I have to keep an eye on her!” Mia remarked.
“You’ve completely turned into Su’s guardian, Mia!”
“Given the occasion, I guess I’ll go as well.”
“What? You’re all going? I’m coming too then! Bibi, aren’t you coming?”
“I-I am! Of course, I am! Right, Argernon?!”
“Kikikyu!” Argernon answered while looking up.
It seemed that all of the girls would be attending the training area today.

“What? Susie’s coming over here today?! Hell yeah!!!”
Irvine exclaimed excitedly when he spotted Susie on her way to the training area. He rushed to her side, clearly delighted to see her.
“Irvine?! Hey! You’re too close!”
“What? Bibi? What are you doing here?”
“Shouldn’t I be here?!”
“N-No! I didn’t say that! It’s just rare to see you here.”
“You don’t have to worry, Irvine! I’ll take care of showing them around!”
“Huh? Dana?! W-Wait!”
Irvine called out, but Susie was quickly swept away by Dana and the other girls, leaving him chasing after them.
The training area was a log house-like structure, resembling a small gymnasium roughly 20 meters on each side. The floor was made up of hardened ground. To Susie, it looked just like a big sumo training area.
“We’ll go get changed. Su, you don’t have a change of clothes, do you?” Cara asked.
(A change of clothes? Is she talking about gym clothes? What should I do? I didn’t bring any. I really don’t want to get my clothes dirty, but I guess it’ll be fine as long as I don’t let my butt touch the ground.)
“No… change clothes… But… fine… like… this!”
“No, you’re not! They’ll get dirty! I’ll lend you mine!” Alicia said.
“What? But… size… not… match.” Susie said with a puzzled expression.
“It’s fine, it’s fine! Come here! Let’s get you changed!”
Alicia said cheerfully, grabbing Susie’s hand and happily leading her into the changing room.
◇◇◇
Susie was dressed in a white sleeveless T-shirt and light yellow wide pants1. The T-shirt was a bit oversized, slightly revealing her shoulders, while the pants had been folded in several layers and tucked in to fit nicely.
“Here you go! Perfect, right? I told you! You’re so cute!” Alicia announced proudly, pushing Susie before the other girls.
“I see! It definitely changes her image. I’m stealing the idea for this summer!”
Susie felt a strange sense of unease as she watched the upperclassmen laugh. In the end, she now had a matching outfit with Alicia.
“Fufu. How is it? We look like sisters now, don’t we? Don’t we!” Alicia said cheerfully, wrapping an arm around Susie’s shoulders and rubbing her cheek against her affectionately.
“Ah! Alicia! That’s not fair!” Cara said, pouting.
Meanwhile, Susie’s attention shifted to Cara’s outfit.
(Huh? Cara, that black outfit makes you look just like a ninja. I mean, just look at those shorts; they’re screaming ninja! You even have one of those bandanas with metal plates! That’s the one ninjas wear! Are you one of those whose names should not be called?! Are you2??!)
Susie found herself bewildered by the strange mix of cultural elements in Cara’s attire.
By the time Susie had finished changing and stepped out of the dressing room, the other children had already gathered, and the village adults assigned to teach them had entered the training area, ready to begin.
The village’s adults took turns teaching at the training area. Today, the task had fallen upon Ryder Haggard. He was the second son of the Haggard Family and Irvine’s older brother.
Ryder, who had turned 24 this year, had served the Knights of the Royal Capital for four years before returning to the village last year, making him a powerful individual.
As Ryder surveyed the children in the training area, his gaze landed on Susie, someone he didn’t recognize.
“What? Lavi? Lavi! No…”
He muttered, his eyes widening in shock as if he had seen something unbelievable. For a moment, in Ryder’s mind, the lively image of a girl overlapped with Susie’s appearance.
“Big bro, that’s Susie! The one from Sir Cloud’s place. She’ll be training with us today!” Irvine’s words snapped Ryder out of his thoughts. The phantom image of the girl slowly disappeared, and Ryder silently looked over Susie once again.
“O-Oh yeah! You’re right… S-So you’re Susie! I’ve heard a lot about you. I hope that you’re able to inspire everyone!” Ryder said, extending his hand for a handshake. Susie shook his hand, observing him carefully.
(I ended up receiving another strange response even though this is our first time meeting. He has deep folds between his brows, and his eyes look somewhat scary, but he’s Irvine. I doubt he’s a bad guy. A cool, handsome young man kind of vibe. Judging by the sword in his hand and the firmness of his handshake, he must be pretty skilled.)
“Yes… Will… do… best!”
“So, what are you good at? I’ve heard you can use a sword.”
“Ah… Yes… Most… comfortable… using… two… swords!”
“Two swords?”
“Yes… One sword… one hand!”
“Oh! A dual-wielder then! Well, pick a weapon from the sword stand over there.”
Susie glanced in the direction Ryder pointed and saw several wooden boxes lined up against the wall, with swords randomly propped inside them.
(Why does this look like an umbrella stand… Oh yeah! The Kendo club room I saw way back also had their bamboo swords lined up in the same way.)
The right side was packed with wooden swords, while on the left, iron weapons with dulled blades were propped up.
(Are the wooden swords meant for younger children? I guess the dulled weapons are simply here for a hands-on experience.)
Susie wondered, scanning the box on the far left to find a pair of swords that were a proper size.
“Wait, those are just for practice swings… There’s only weighted weapons in that box that we use for swinging practice.” Ryder said.
But before he could finish, Susie had already plucked two swords from the box with just the tips of her fingers. With a fluid motion, she spun the swords as if juggling, letting them twirl in her hands a few times before catching them firmly. She then swung both swords up and down several times, testing how they felt.
A sharp whooshing sound filled the training area.
“Whoa! That’s fast!”
“You’re amazing, Su!” Mia remarked.
“How can you swing those swords that fast? You’re amazing, Su!” Dana exclaimed.
“Wait! You’ve got it all wrong! That is way past being fast, amazing, or anything like that! Irvine! Did you see?”
“I did! She swung them 3, no 4 times! She swung down 4 times3!”
“Four?! No way! Didn’t she only swing them up and down once?!”
“And that’s not all! All of the swings were identical. There was not an ounce of wobbling. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
“Damn! Hey, can I go first? Let’s go in order of when we met her!” Irvine said.
“No fair! That means I’d be last! Well, I guess that’s fine. Irvine, can you do it?”
“Can, can’t, what does it matter?! I want to do it!”
“I understand that! In that case, go Irvine! I’ll go after you!”
“Sure thing! Big bro, I’m going first!”
Irvine said, turning to Ryder before stepping forward confidently.

- Robinxen: What an oddly modern concept.
- TL/N: The part about being ‘one of those whose names should not be called’ is a reference to the opening sequence of the anime Sasuke released back in 1968
