“Orgo! Uhm… how do I look?”

It was the day of the date. Seinforce had split up into two groups – Orgo plus Myuri, and Ruin plus Lilo – and arranged to meet in different places inside the castle. The former two met in front of a conspicuous statue in the courtyard.

“Ah, well… I think you look nice.”
“Really? Heh-heh, it gladdens me to hear that!”

What Orgo actually had wanted to use were words like “cute” or “lovely”, but instead a mere “nice” left his mouth. Contrasting with the girl’s happiness, the boy felt somewhat conflicted. Just as when he had confessed to her, he found himself unable to communicate his feeling clearly.

“Should we go, then?”
“Yes.”

For now, he threw away any hesitation and started his first date with Myuri… or rather, his first date ever. The two of them left the white area.

Strictly speaking, both Orgo and Myuri were the children of nobles, so they were wearing fine garments. Although it was a different question whether such refined clothing suited the boy’s physique.

“So, where are you going to take me?”
“Well… for now just come with me.”
“Of course.”

He started walking. She followed, a step behind him. Orgo was aware of this habit of hers.

“Myuri.”
“Yes, what might it be?”
“Come, walk next to me.”
“Eh…? Ah, of course!”

She herself, now realizing that she had fallen back into her habit of walking behind the others, hurriedly took a place next to the boy. Thus, they continued walking in that fashion. Still, she soon fell a step behind once more. While the boy noticed it, he decided not to mention it, knowing it was an old habit of hers.

“We’re here.”
“Why…! A street filled with food-stalls!”
“Exactly. I first thought we could go have fun and mess around somewhere… I mean, am I stupid? That probably would’ve ruined your clothes… so I thought of something else…”
“Heh-heh, I do not mind. The important part is to have fun.”
“I-I guess, anyway.”

They started walking down the street before coming to a stop in front of a stall.

“Oh my, it is one of those sandwich stalls!”
“…At this point, these things are sold everywhere, huh?”
“It is a simple dish invented by Alim; you merely put suitable ingredients between two slices of bread… It would appear that this stall sells sweet varieties.”
“They’ve got lots more different kinds of those, now.”

They each quickly bought one and started eating it.

At this point, Orgo remembered something. In the romance guides they had perused while deciding on where to go for the date, there was an entry about “couples feeding each other during meals1.”

He stared at the sandwich he was holding; one with citrus fruits soaked in sweet sirup, with fresh cream forming a thin skin around it2. Then at Myuri, who was about take the second bite of hers with fresh cream and strawberries.

In truth, the two had been born almost at the same time and consequently spent much of their lives together, so there had been several times when they fed each other in the past. At those times, it hadn’t felt embarrassing… but now Orgo was more conscious of one fact. That it would serve as an indirect kiss.

“…Orgo, is something wrong?”
“Eh… no, it’s just…”
“Could it be that you would like to try some of mine? Heh-heh, I should have seen this coming. But only a single bite, if you would?” she conceded, as she held out her meal to him.

Finding no reason to refuse, he obediently took it.
He swallowed and gathered his resolve, before taking a bite. It was sweet. Excessively sweet. Still, he couldn’t help feeling as if said sweetness wasn’t just due to the fruits and fresh cream.

“Was it that delicious? Might we swap, so I can try yours, too?”
“Huh!? O-Oh, sure thing.”

Realizing how strange it would be not to offer his own sandwich after she had let him try hers, he readily handed her his meal. She accepted it with a smile and quickly took a bite. He watched the scene while carefully holding her strawberry sandwich.

“Yes, yours is also quite good! Here you go. Could I have mine back, please?”
“Sure.”

Still somewhat out of it and captivated by her, he gave her sandwich back and took his own from her. Then, he gazed at the teeth mark she had left after taking a bite of it.

“…Is there something off about you today, Orgo?”
“Wha-…!? You think so? Well… I guess. Maybe I’m having too much fun being on a date with you, Myuri. I’m definitely feeling excited.”
“My heart has been racing all that time! Eh-heh-heh, it is a date, after all! I am also feeling excited!”

The boy’s mental defenses crumbled as she said this with a smile, blushing slightly.

After finishing their sandwiches (Orgo somehow managed after a bit of hesitation) they walked around the stalls, eating snacks as they went. They then left the street and, with Orgo in the lead, made their way to the next stop of their date. Myuri followed half a step behind him.

TL notes:
There were some author’s comments, mentioning that it was originally planned to keep this to one date chapter for Orgo and Ruin each, but it blew up and is now three chapters each, which will be spread out over the rest of the volume.

Footnotes:

  1. At this point, I think the author should consult one of those guides themselves. It’s the fifth couple we see, and there’s no variety at all.
  2. This may be wrong. It could be the sirup forming the thin skin, or it could have a completely different meaning that eludes me. Also, depending on the bread, this sounds like a mess waiting to happen.
