A day had passed since I managed to deliver the Vajra to King Rama without incident. They were apparently still in the middle of their investigation but had learned quite a few things already.

So, today I’d fix the old books King Mephilad asked me to. Thinking that this, once again, might give various new insights made me somewhat happy.
Maybe I should take this opportunity to study up on Anazumu’s history for real… Nah, that’d be too much work.

If I were to study, it would be better to pick something that was useful on Earth, like what Kanata did. For now, I would work hard so I could copy those books into the Tozumaho.

For the first time in ages, I went to the library on my own. It was a large building close to the castle, which consequently also meant that it was close to my mansion. Despite gaining the right to freely access everything there, I had only gone to the place a single time1. With my abilities, I was probably the person who could stay in the same place without leaving for the longest time. The goal back then had been to stuff all the information into the Tozumaho.

Still, there were tons of people in the library. The building was one of the few recreational facilities in the city, so that was to be expected. I made my way to the deepest depths of the building, where several important archives were located.

This was the only part I hadn’t gone to during my prior visit. It housed tomes that were tattered and abnormally old, but still important. This was now my destination. They probably put a lot of trust in me for letting me enter without supervision.

To begin, I prepared multiple sprayers filled with the restoration fluid I’d used the other day and then created dozens of robots. I attached a sprayer to each of those and activated them. As for me, I was holding something like a shower head. Even if the restoration fluid were to soak the pages, it would merely restore them, not make them wet. Thus, hosing them down with a shower head was quite efficient. The robots were there to take care of the books I missed.

I immediately turned on the flow. Every single book that was hit became pristine.
But even using that method, it still takes forever. Oh well, better keep it up.

While I was at it, I also cleaned the room and the bookshelves themselves. Or rather, some of the robots did, using cleaning fluid. Well, it was part of the service I offered. Anyway, while it did take time, I went at it at hyper-speed, so by normal standards I was done quickly.

Now what, should I just copy them into the Tozumaho? No one is here and I’m not under surveillance, so I could do it right now if I wanted. Hm~… I feel bad about this2

I guess I’ll hold off for another time. I can just ask the king when I actually need the information in the Tozumaho.

Thus, I stored away the robots and left the library to inform the king.

“You worked as fast as expected.”
“Thank you for saying that, Your Majesty.”
“I’ll pay you at a later time… Are you truly fine with that compensation?”

He knew that I wasn’t hurting for money, so he likely brought it up deliberately.
Well, if he wants me to be frank…

“How about we say that you owe me a favor instead?”
“I feel like it wouldn’t be the first, but that should work.”
“In that case, let’s settle it this way.”

Though I didn’t expect to actually cash in said favor.

“Still, thanks to you, Alim, we’ll be able to learn a lot about the past. You restored the ancient historical records, and for the events spanning the last 300 years3 or so, we can consult with Princess Elle and the Hero Herrell. This will advance our historical research.”

Research, huh…? In that case, I should probably also give the king the same offer I made the other day.

“Would you like to borrow these, then?”

I brought out glasses of the same kind I had shown King Rama and repeated my explanation.

“…Convenient. I’d like to borrow three pairs.”
“Of course, here you go.” I handed him the glasses.

Maybe it is time to make those more widely available? I could probably talk to the people from the Medial Merchant Association about mass producing them. Hang on, they’re legend grade. I’m the only one who can make them.

“Alright! I’ll be going home for the day, then.”
“Hrm, you’re not going to spend time with Karua?”
“No, I feel somewhat tired today.”
“Of course, I forgot. You must be, after restoring countless books. Go home and rest for the day.”
“I will. Till another time, Your Majesty.”

Thus, while feeling sorry for not dropping in on the princess, I went home. There, Mika greeted me.

“Welcome back! Would you like dinner? Or a bath? Or maybe… me?”
“I’m tired today, so I’ll go to bed after eating and taking a bath.”
“A-Alright… Hmph!” she replied grumpily.

It looked adorable, so I gave her a hug.

Footnotes:

  1. It’s “several times” in the original. I’m pretty sure he went there exactly once to copy everything.
  2. Why stop at this point? It’s clear they trust him with this information, or they wouldn’t send him to fix those books without supervision.
  3. It’s 100 years in the original. I’m pretty sure the events of the prior emergence of the demon god happened 300 years before the story.
