“Normally, no one except for chief vassals are allowed to enter this place. Well, you and Mika, are an exception.”

We were in King Rama’s study. Different from the small library we’d visited the other day, this was clearly the king’s private space. For some reason, visiting an older man’s quarters made me nervous.

I checked out the bookshelves after entering the study:
…Alim Nariwei in a miniskirt.
…Special Edition: The angels of the party ‘The Earth’.
…Limited Edition: Alim Nariwei in an apron.

It was a collection of photos from Mika and me. I only took a short glance, but there were many more other than those just mentioned. Moreover, many of them were awfully rare.

During the photoshoot for the “Limited Edition: Alim Nariwei in an apron”, there had been an idiot among the staffers, suggesting I do the “naked apron”. I obviously declined. If I remembered correctly, the miniskirt one was drawn in a way that extremely emphasized my tights. Thinking back on it, they were also very focused on my socks. My legs weren’t even that plump to begin with.

I just don’t get how men think.

I preferred the easy-to-understand ones like Shuu. Still, when I turned back into a man, I definitely had such idiosyncrasies, too. It was complicated.

“Oh, you found Our photo collection of you and Mika, Alim… We use this room to store almost everything that has been published about you up to this point. This includes specials and limited editions.”

Hah, so he’s got practically everything.
It was hard to tell what a rich person obsessed with idols would do. If only they would stop at collecting photos.

“Unfortunately, We never managed to get Our hands on the limited edition ‘War Alim’. That one was sold for such a short time, and the demand was too high.”

The king seemed rather dejected when he said that. I usually kept everything in my pouch, in case something like this happened.

“Let me check… I have that one with me currently, do you want it?”
“What!? I-If possible, could you sell it to Us after signing it? We shall pay you 100’000 bells for it!”
“N-No need to go that far. Just pay me the normal price it was going for…”

While we were in the middle of something important, he seemed happy about it, so it wasn’t a bad thing. It would probably make dealing with him in the future easier. I signed the “Limited Edition: War Alim” on the cover where the king indicated and then gave it to him.

“We shall keep this as an heirloom!”
“If you’re going to make something an heirloom, it should be the Vajra.”
“…That one is a national treasure, not a personal heirloom.”

King Rama seemed both happy and solemn as he put the magazine onto the bookshelf. Then, his expression immediately turned serious, and he continued speaking.

“…So, as for the diary’s contents.”
“What did it say?”
“The one being named the Guide apparently wasn’t born in this country.”
“I-I see.”

Just like wolfkin could only give away one Pledge of Loyalty in their lives, the members of King Rama’s lineage could only designate one Guide. And while common belief had been that no past king in several hundred years had designated a Guide, the current king’s great-grandfather had done so… at least according to the diary. Exactly since the crucial information about said Guide was missing, I had been tasked with restoring the diary. Which led us to the present. And now King Rama told us that a foreigner had been made the Guide.

“What kind of person were they?”
“From what is written… it was a man capable of strange feats without using special items or skills. Feeling inner strength from him, Our great grandfather decided to make him the Guide, something he could do only once in his life…” King Rama frowned before continuing. “Our grandfather often told us that his father could be an irresponsible man, but to think he went this far.”
“Ah-ha-ha-ha.”
“If it was Us, We would surely name you the Guide, Alim.”

After reading this diary, he might just decide to go and make me the guide. I should change the subject.

“Do you know anything more about this man?”
“He apparently worked at the side of Our great grandfather for some time before suddenly leaving for the Mephilad Kingdom… He kept muttering things like ‘I want to return to my homeland’. He was quite talented at making people laugh, which Our great grandfather seemed to like about him, but at the times when he muttered this wish, his expression was said to be awfully lonesome.”

Huh… his home country?

While Anazumu was quite a bit smaller than Earth, distances still could be substantial, so it was likely quite hard for him to find his way home. Maybe there was a means of returning home for him in the Mephilad Kingdom1.

“We’d like to make you the Guide after all, Alim.”
“You can’t. I am already the Hero!”
“True, hah.”

King Rama dropped his shoulders in dejection.
If this topic drags on, he’ll never stop. I better change the subject again.

“Do you know anything else at this point?”
“No, that was all We learned.”

It doesn’t sound like they’ve gotten very far. Well, it’s only been three days since I fixed the book, so that’s to be expected.

Footnotes:

  1. Another case of a surprise being spoiled by an earlier chapter, since chapter 565 already told us who the guide is. Also, Anazumu is apparently smaller than Earth. I wonder if it’s still a globe or works on different prinziples.
