“She’s gone.” Parasuna had been waving until Alim was out of view.
“…Phew, it really was the right decision to leave it to her.” Uruto earnestly thought that.
“I’ll never forget it for the rest of my life. She even gave us such a thing.”

The two of them peered at the device Alim had handed them. No matter how you looked at it, it wasn’t something that could be created with the technology of this world. A thing of marvel, capable of leaving records of their wedding and the family they would nurture.

“And it can instantly create realistic depictions, huh?”
“It seems so.”
“Let’s take a picture of you as a test, Parasuna.”

Uruto pressed the upper right button to switch the device from video replay to photo mode.

“Of me?”
“Yep, just as an experiment… Give me a smile.”

Doing like Alim had shown him, he pointed the device at Parasuna. She seemed embarrassed by it.

“S-Stop. You’re making me blush.”
“But all I want is a detailed picture of the wife I love from the bottom of my heart…”
“B-Bwuh!?”

Her face flushed red for an instant, and the same moment, she broke into a grin. Uruto didn’t miss that moment. A piece of paper dropped from the device.

“Yep, it’s adorable.”
“Ugh…”
“Don’t be so grumpy. It will ruin your cute looks.”
“Grr…!”

As she puffed out her cheeks with a defiant gaze, a look she wouldn’t show anyone other than him, he gently caressed her head, including her ears.

“That feels nice… more please.”
“That’s quite the change of attitude.”
“In the end, I enjoy being petted.”
“I know that.”

In accordance with her demand, Uruto continued patting her head. Feeling warmth in her heart, she nuzzled up closer to him with her eyes narrowed happily.

“…Kiss me.”
“Alright. Now in you’re in the spirit of being newly wed.”
“Even… even if we weren’t, I’d want you to kiss me…”
“I get it.”

Their lips met. It wasn’t for the purpose of lovemaking, so their tongues didn’t entwine, but it was an intense kiss.

“Phew, this is bad. I can’t let all those people who admire me see me like this.”
“Why’s that?”
“Look, they think I’m all cool and composed. It would shatter their illusion.”

He impulsively smiled at her strange concern.

“Well, it’s not like they can see us here.”
“Who knows, you might suddenly hug me when we’re outside.”
“We’re married now, no one would think it weird if we did that.”

She buried her head in his chest at the thought of him embracing her outside as he did right now.

“I love you.”
“I know.” He patted his wife’s back. “Oh, that’s right. Alim mentioned it earlier, what should we do about having children?”
“Children… as for me…” Parasuna thought for a bit. “We can have as many as you want… I guess? One… or three… or even five or ten1!” she told him with upturned eyes, as she counted with her fingers.

He smiled at her, as she mentioned the number ten with a serious look.

“W-Well… we could have ten.”
“Right? I think we could raise that many.”
“We could, but it might be hard on you. Three should be enough, let’s keep it at that.”
“If you say so.” She easily backed down. “S-So, Uruto… uhm… when should we have children? Anytime works for me.”
“Same here, I guess.”
“So… right now?” she proposed as her cheeks turned bright red.
“Right now!?”
“W-We’re already 22, having kids at that age is normal, isn’t it? So…”

She hugged him again. He returned the embrace with a somewhat perplexed look.

“That’s true… I guess we’re old enough.”
“R-Right?”
“Yep.”

He gazed at her eyes.

“Wh-What is it?”
“Well… I was just wondering if today would work.”
“Huh? You mean… I guess it would,” she replied, understanding his meaning as the blush on her cheeks intensified.

He made a fist-pump in triumph.

“…Well, it’s the middle of the day, so let’s wait until evening. Oh, right. Should I make us lunch?”
“You’d do that for me? Or I could do the cooking.”
“I’ll leave it to you, then2.”
“Heh-heh, you can count on me.”

The two of them separated and she disappeared into the kitchen. Shortly later, she returned with the finished meal.

“Here you go, enjoy!”
“Thank you… it looks great. What’s with the heart shape, though?”
“It symbolizes my heart for you, Uruto. I love you.”
“I know. I love you, too… Now, shall we eat?”
“Yeah.”

Footnotes:

  1. Sounds like those rabbit genes are making themselves known.
  2. You’d think with him running the inn and doing all the cooking, he’d be a more experienced chef and she’d far prefer his cooking to her own.
