A moment later, the archbishop finally spoke. Honestly, the pause was chosen well. Or rather, perfectly.

“-Then… Uruto Lastman, do you vow to take Parasuna Nervan as your wife, in sickness and in health, until death do you part1?”

Finally, that’s the moment. Come on…!

“YES… Yes, I vow!”

With these words, Uruto turned back from his Lastman appearance to looking like a pleasant young man. Those who already knew his secret gazed at him with expressions of satisfaction.

On the other hand, those who came from other countries, those unfamiliar with Uruto, or those who were invited on the virtue of being nobles, seemed shocked and grew uproarious. They unreservedly voiced their thoughts, which included things like “I always thought he was magic beast that had somehow turned human”, “Who is this handsome hunk?”, and “If this is who was in the Lastman costume, it was worth the wait”.

Well, looks like Mr. Uruto’s debut went well. Miss Parasuna will be the problem. Since she’s originally from a country where slavery still hasn’t been abolished.
How will it go?

“-Parasuna Nervan, do you vow to take Uruto Lastman as your husband, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?”
“I vow.”

This wasn’t the moment where she would reveal her true identity. At this point, she likely enraptured everyone at the venue with her own charm and her wedding dress, boasting of a beauty that would cause anyone to fall silent. So much, that it even stopped Mika from whispering her impressions of the dress to me.

The audience turned even quieter at her words “I vow.”

“You may now exchange the ring,” Chris’ voice echoed through the silence.

Parasuna entrusted the gloves she was wearing and bouquet she’d been holding to Gilmars. After confirming that, the archbishop handed the ring to Uruto.

The bride and groom gazed at each other. Just what had happened to them in the past? I only heard about it in broad strokes and didn’t know the details.

What were they thinking, as they stood here, and what hardships had they overcome to finally tie the knot? How did they encourage each other in painful times, harsh time… sad times, and happy times? No one but them knew that weight and reality.

It felt like some time had passed. As Parasuna smiled through her veil with red, melancholic eyes, Uruto smiled back and took her left hand. He gently put the ring on it.

Either because of my arrangement or since the bride and groom exuded an air of repeated struggles, an atmosphere of what could only be called indescribable affection filled the venue.

“You may now seal your vows with a kiss.”

It was finally time for the kiss. On that note, no directions other than making it look mystical to draw the guest’s attention had been given for this part2. Still, the two of them looked beautiful.

Weddings are nice… that’s what I’ve come to think after setting one up myself.

“Yep.”
“Let’s do it.”

They nodded at each other, seemingly having resolved themselves, and Uruto lifted Parasuna’s veil.

That moment, her body transformed. White ears, typical of a rabbitkin, appeared on her head and a slight protrusion on her behind could be seen, indicating a round tail.

To this, anyone in the venue, other than those already in the know, reacted with bafflement. It was on an entirely different level than during Uruto’s reveal.

“(…I love you.)”
“(…I love you, too.)”

After muttering in small voices what could only be heard by a scant few people… the bride and groom’s lips met. Although it wasn’t intended to be a passionate and long kiss, it lasted for several minutes and looked sensuous and deep.

When he saw that they had finished, Chris clasped his hands in prayer.

“Gods, grant the birth of a new married couple-”

After muttering a few words in addition to that, he handed the couple a sheet of paper and an expensive looking pen. It was the marriage certificate. The bride and groom signed it without any hesitation.

“Let us sing.”

After receiving a lock of hair of the bride and groom, the archbishop raised his voice loudly. The guests, who’d been caught up in the atmosphere, staggered to their feet, as if they had just woken up.

I didn’t know whether it was due to the surprise concerning Parasuna’s true identity, or due to being enchanted by her dress, but everyone seemed emotionally drained. This was probably my fault.

Still, the song ended without incident like earlier. I had no idea what the words were, but I still did my best to sing. I had to give credit where it was due.

“The bride and groom may now leave the venue.”

At the archbishop’s words, Parasuna slightly skipped and linked arms with Uruto.

That moment, a single person started to clap. The one who did… was the king. As he broke the silence and clapped sincerely, others around him joined in… until it turned into a big applause with not a single person keeping still.

Amidst that, the bride and groom happily made their way down the wedding aisle and left the hall.

Footnotes:

  1. In the original, the last part is “support each other for the rest of your life”. Since almost everything here seems to be based on a Christian wedding, I decided to go with the more traditional ending.
  2. One word in this sentence, the さつまき in the ちなみにさつまきから神秘的に見せる part doesn’t seem to make sense. さつま is either a former province or a sweet potato, so I can only assume this is a typo of some sort. While I did find something rather close in たつまき (竜巻), this means “whirlwind” and doesn’t make any more sense.
