“Phew, that was scary!” Mika exclaimed, beaming as we emerged from the haunted house.
It had definitely been frightening, but Mika didn’t look scared, no matter how you sliced it.
“I kept hugging you, Ayumu, so I was fine!” she added slyly.
I was true, she had clung tightly to me the whole time in the attraction, which did feel nice. I wasn’t good with these kinds of rides, so I’d genuinely been scared. Mika perfectly knew that, and she was the one who dragged me there to hug me while we were inside; she had planned that from the beginning.
I think I’m going to be a bit mean.
“Wha-…? You never hugged me, you know? We only held hands in there.”
“That can’t be, I was pressing hard against your chest, right!? Were we really only holding hands? Didn’t it feel soft?”
I certainly had felt rather soft. It wasn’t just Mika’s face that was heaven-sent.
Still, if I told the truth here, my earlier lie would’ve been pointless. I decided to further rub salt into her wounds.
“No. If you had hugged me, I’m pretty sure I’d be a bit more flushed…”
“N-No way. Did I end up hugging someone else!? Gah… waaah!”
Mika’s eyes started to tear up.
Not good, I made her cry. I didn’t plan to go that far!
“S-Sorry! I was lying. I just wanted to scare you. Y-You did hug me all the time.”
“Right? I immediately knew you were just messing with me. We’ve known each other for 14 years!”
Gah… did she just fake those tears earlier, then? When did she learn to do that?
“Well, I did drag you into a haunted house, which you’re bad with, so I thought you wanted to pay me back for that.”
“Drats…”
She completely has me around her little finger. Childhood friends can be terrifying at times.
…Though more often, they make you happy.
“Well, in that case, treat me to some juice!”
“Why would I!?”
“Because you lost~.”
Afterwards, Mika forced me to buy her a 500 ml bottle of orange juice at the nearest vending machine.
“Here you go.”
“Thanks!”
Maybe her throat was dry, as she immediately opened the bottle and gulped down the juice after I handed it to her.
“Phew! You can have some, too.”
After drinking what looked like around 100 ml, she held out the still open bottle to me. It was probably what it looked like. Heh-heh.
I instantly took it, brought it to my mouth, and drank. It was awfully sweet. Was orange juice always like that?
“Can you give it back once you’re done?”
“…Mh.”
I handed the bottle, which had now touched both our lips, back to Mika. She brought it back to her mouth and drank some more. Then, she handed it back to me with just a little remaining, which I downed in a single gulp before tossing the bottle into a nearby garbage bin.
This ended… our long, indirect kiss. Strong sweetness lingered in my mouth.
“We’re not kissing today, so we’ll have to do it the indirect way.”
“That was awfully sweet.”
“Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh.”
We linked arms again.
We then went towards the next attraction. That would be the roller coaster. Indeed, we had settled on that earlier. After walking for about seven minutes, we finally reached the ride – the centerpiece of the amusement park – where people were standing in line. The waiting time said 30 minutes.
“What should we do?”
“We can spare 30 minutes.”
“True.”
Thus, we joined the long line. If it was the two of us, conversations could go on forever, so even 40 minutes would pass in a flash.
Even so, 30 minutes was long. Though it was unavoidable, seeing it was Sunday.
“Ayumu, what should we do next after riding the roller coaster?”
“We could eat lunch. At the food court or somewhere.”
“Alright.”
Thus, our conversation continued and led to other topics. It was a bit like girls’ talk. But, unfortunately, I was a boy here.
Before we knew it, it was our turn. After leaving our bags at the counter, Mika and I got on seats next to each other in the middle of the roller coaster cart.
«The seatbelts will now close-»
After hearing that announcement, the seatbelts tightened. Next, a bar lowered itself over my shoulder and snapped into place. I gripped it with my hand on the outer side. As for my hand on the inner side… or rather, my arm there, I linked it with Mika’s.
“Phew… Hah… My heart is racing. I might have fallen in love with you even more, Ayumu.”
“I’m pretty sure you’re just nervous.”
“Eh-heh-heh, you’re right. No worries, my affection for you was maxed out from the beginning.”
“Hm.”
Way too cute.
And now my heart is racing, too… This is probably something like the suspension bridge effect.
No, wrong, Mika is simply cute.
«The ride will now depart.»
The moment we heard that announcement, Mika and I unconsciously linked our arms more strongly.
