After leaving our homes, we made our way to the subway. It felt like the amount of people who stared at Mika and how long their gazes lingered had gone up tremendously.
“A date with you, Ayumu… I’m so excited.”
“We’re only at the subway station where we’ve often been before.”
Seen from an outside perspective, we probably looked as if we were sticking extremely closely together… at least I thought so. But I neither cared nor did I want to. This was probably a good thing, since it had been some time since Mika and I both ended up in another world before finally reuniting.
It was Sunday morning at 8 am, so there weren’t that many people, allowing us to get two seats in the train that were next to each other. Mika leaned her head against my shoulder.
“I’m much more excited than during our dates in Anazumu…! I wonder why.”
“No idea, but you’re definitely right.”
I really didn’t know the reason. Our first date here made my heart race much more than our first one back in Anazumu. There was a sense of accomplishment, as if a dream that I had for years was coming true.
We kept holding hands the whole time in the train and our bodies were close. As we talked, I thought about continuing to spend every day together like this… and in this manner, we reached the station where we had to change trains in a flash.
Even after switching to another train, that continued. If there had been anyone watching us the whole time, they’d probably have thought of us as one of those couples who flaunted their relationship everywhere. Well, there obviously was no one like that.
…Though this was still difficult to say. Well, I was used to it, so I didn’t mind it particularly.
“Come to think of it, Ayumu! Even before we started dating, we often were in the city together, weren’t we?”
“Yep, countless times.”
I was mostly just the two of us, but if you included the times our parents or Kanata and Sakura were with us, it happened quite often. To begin with, Mom and Mika’s mother also were good friends and there were times when our families went to traditional Japanese Inns together.
“At those times… how did it feel?” she asked.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, uhm, you had feelings for me, didn’t you? Did it make your heart race?”
To be honest, it did. My heart was always racing… Not so much during the earlier years of elementary school, since I didn’t understand things back then, but it really started from fifth or sixth grade onward. It felt like with us growing older, my excitement grew in proportion to Mika’s allure.
For some reason, spending time together with the girl I liked (even though I wasn’t in a relationship with her yet) brought both joys and sorrows… but I was afraid of ruining our friendship, so I didn’t confess my love, which ended up frustrating me.
On that note, there was a time when I always looked for opportunities to confess whenever we hung out somewhere. Thinking about it now, there were plenty of opportunities, but I never did, maybe because I was too shy.
“It did, very much so. Not just when we were going somewhere… always.”
“I see… you’re right! It was the same for me,” she replied with a smile.
And she still made my heart beat faster. Being in a relationship also had its joys and sorrows… I learned this since I started dating her.
I truly… love her.
“Eh-heh-heh… Ayumu… I love- oh, we’re already there!”
As we were lost in each other’s eyes, the train apparently reached our destination. Next, we’d take a bus to the amusement part. Thus, we left the train station and then waited at the bus stop. It only took about three minutes for it to arrive.
“It was a good idea to check the timetable in advance, right?”
“It sure was.”
We got on the bus and shared a bench intended for two people. Strangely enough, Mika and I had an extremely high chance of ending up riding the same vehicle and sitting next to each other, not just in public facilities but also when the seating changed at school.
This is probably also fate! Heh-heh.
“We’re not standing out that much on the bus… right?” Mika commented and then strongly hugged my arm.
There was a soft sensation and a pleasant smell typical for girls (which I apparently also gave off).
“I really want to kiss you.”
“Ah-ha-ha, we’ll need a more secluded place for that.”
We didn’t talk much in the bus, we just secretly hugged each other. I say secretly… but it probably still looked like us sticking together for others.
“What attraction should we use first?”
“…I’m not sure yet, let’s decide once we’re there.”
“Alright!”
In the meantime, the bus reached the last stop. We had arrived at the amusement park. It took roughly one hour and 40 minutes to get there from where we lived. We came here all the time.
Mika and I paid the fare1 and stood tall, facing each other, once we had left the bus.
“Alright… shall we go in?”
“Yeah!”
