“That was it for today!”
“””Thank you, Teacher!”””
What was essentially Rir’s first club experience of her life came to an end. She was sweatier than I had ever seen her, which made it… not lewd, but you could feel that she probably had given it her all.
As someone who had done judo for quite a few years, I could see that she had a lot of potential. Though to be blunt, she had the Secret Martial God Technique skill, so that was likely a given. At least I couldn’t think of her as someone without any experience.
“You stay here, Hino, Fún,” Gorilla Sensei told us, as everyone else, including the vice club head started changing.
After we had also changed in separate locker rooms, we went to him as he waited in the center of the club room, poised to talk.
“Fún, how was it for you today?”
“I did participate as a helper in what goes for clubs in Norway, but this was the first time I did so of my own volition… it was a new experience!”
“I see, I see.”
Come to think of it, she did say she is good at all sports. From how I see her, she’s exactly the kind of person who helps out with clubs.
“How did it go among only men? Was judo fun for you?”
“I don’t really mind there being no other girls except me. As for if it was fun…”
She shot me a glance and then looked back at Gorilla Sensei.
“It was!”
“That’s good to hear.”
Why’d she shoot me that glance? Was she happy that I taught her?
Heh-heh-heh.
“I heard in advance that it was your first time doing judo, but to be blunt, you don’t feel like a beginner. I can’t help thinking that you have a lot of talent.”
“Y-You think so?”
“Yes.”
Gorilla Sensei had the skill required of a judo instructor and I also heard that he had a sort of fan-club in the neighborhood. As a matter of fact, he was good enough to bring us to a point where we managed to reach first or second place in the inter-scholastic tournament and the All Japan High School Athletic Federation… or at least win a prize, in a scant few days.
If he said that, then it confirmed my own impression of her having potential.
“Also, it’s up to you whether you want to join our club, be that as a normal member or a manager, or not. It’s your decision, Fún… I don’t think joining because Hino is part of this club is a bad reason or anything. Having the same hobbies as your partner is a good thing.”
“Y-Yes!”
Oh, that was well said. I see him as a trustworthy guy, and this reaffirms that what my seniors told me long ago was true.
“If you want to join, then we’ll welcome you.”
“Understood, Teacher!”
Rir gave a quick bow of her head. Gorilla Sensei smiled at her.
“Then, you should go home for the day. It’s already late… Hino, I’m sure you know that already, but a girl among all those boys…”
“I know, it should work out. See you.”
Rir and I gave another bow and then left the club room and school. Winter was just around the corner, so it was already rather dark.
“Woof, Shuu, I probably smell very sweaty. We don’t have to hold hands as we walk, alright?”
“…Huh? Nah, you don’t. What ’bout me?”
“You? I like your smell, Shuu.”
Ugh, hearin’ that is embarrassin’.
In the still relatively bright streets, seeing we were close to the school, Rir lightly clung to my arm. I tried to touch her head a bit. Her usually curly and dry hair was wet with sweat today.
“Hmph, it’s filthy, you know!”
“It ain’t. More importantly, how was it really for you?” I asked her bluntly whether she liked judo.
My father taught me stuff like taiho jutsu, the capture techniques the police used against criminals, and there were also times when an old man who lived close to Ayumu’s place taught me karate, but in the end, I preferred judo.
How did Rir really think about that sport? Gorilla Sensei wasn’t here, so she should be able to freely speak her thoughts.
“Hm? It’s one of Japan’s traditional martial arts, and as someone who likes the country, I am very interested in it! Plus, I did have fun! Regardless of you being there, I am earnestly considering joining the club.”
I-I see! In that case…
“What ’bout bein’ in a managerial position? Did you find anythin’ you would do as one? Or if you didn’t, will you join as a normal member?”
“Woof, you’re right. To be honest, I didn’t find anything. So, if I join, it will be as part of the team1.”
If she joined as a normal member, she’d have to take it seriously. Well, with her personality I wouldn’t have to worry about that.
Hm~… bein’ in the same club with my girlfriend… will I be able to focus? It will make Gouda even more jealous, ha-ha-ha.
“Also, that teacher… Gorilla Sensei? He seems like a good guy.”
“Yep, he is. He’s great.”
“Awoo, then I’ll join the judo club, after all! I’ll turn in the notice to join tomorrow!” Rir exclaimed with a smile.
