“How does it look?” Rir asked the moment she entered my room.
“Lovely.”
“Thank you… the uniforms of this school do look awfully cute,” she judged, as she spun in place to make her skirt flutter.
She’d come to me right after changing into her uniform to show it off, but it was just as she said; it looked awfully cute. Rir herself being also cute obviously factored in, but our school uniforms were generally seen as some of the cuter ones in the region.
As a consequence, there were deviants out there trying to get their hands on them. Though there had been a severe crackdown, and I’d sent any of the people I caught trying something flying, so it stopped happening. I should also mention that tough looking people started to keep their distance from me… I wonder what was up with that.
“Did you pack everything?”
“Yeah, I should have all I need!”
Great, we’re good to go, then.
“Shall we go?”
“Let’s!”
Rir and I left the house.
…It was her first day at school, so we obviously couldn’t go there while holding hands. We walked next to each other to the station while I showed her some buildings and roads as landmarks, so she wouldn’t get lost.
“There are lots of molesters on the train, so watch out,” I warned her after we reached the station and bought a ticket for her.
“Huh? Really?”
“Yup.”
It was true, there were many gropers on the trains in this region. Although you rarely saw pickpockets and purse snatchers. Most molesters targeted Ayumu and Mika and I usually caught them before they could do anything, so I didn’t see that many lately1. Still, it had been really bad for some time, so you could never be too careful.
In the end, being too pretty brought its own issues. Even more since those two weren’t just pretty, but cute in a way that made them look weak.
Well, I ain’t some criminal, so I got no clue what’s goin’ on around here.
While Rir looked cool and composed on first glance, she was also the cute type on a closer look, so I was worried.
“Mrr? There’s so many people,” she commented as we boarded the train.
“You think so? It might not look like it, but it’s early, so there are fewer than normal.”
“Really? Huh.”
She brought her body closer to mine. We were wearing winter school uniforms, so I could barely feel the softness of her breasts, but having her lean against me didn’t feel bad either.
“In any case, people are staring at you a lot, Shuu, don’t they?”
“Hm? They do?”
Rir was looking around restlessly, as she held onto me and one of the train’s holding straps.
“Yeah. There are many. As a wolfkin… one of the warlike tribes, I notice such things. Their gazes say that they see you as a superior opponent. There is also some fear in there. One or two in our immediate vicinity seem to regard me as a female target while being wary of you.”
…Sounds like she doesn’t need my protection… H-Hang on, there’s always the worst-case scenario and she’s my girlfriend! I won’t let ’em touch a single hair on her head.
“I see, that’s worryin’.”
“But you’ll protect me, won’t you, Shuu? I feel as if I’ve boarded Noah’s Ark.”
“Sure.”
A short time later we reached the stop from which we’d walk to school, so we descended from the train to the platform, passed the ticket gate, and then left the station. On that note, Rir already knew how to use train tickets without me telling her how.
Well, today’s train system is pretty much the same in the whole world. If you have memories of it, you’ll obviously be able to use it.
“Nevertheless, I’m so excited about school!” she exclaimed after we left the station.
“Are you, now?”
“I am! I can study… and exercise and do what adolescents do! I never had this luxury. Of course, the only reason I can do this is because of you, Shuu.”
For the last three days… or rather six, if you included the time on Anazumu, Rir had been cheerfully looking forward to school. For me it was normal, I wasn’t really excited about it, but after learning about the environment she grew up in, school probably seemed amazing to her.
“In any case, there sure are lots of shops here. Can’t we stop at some when we go home?”
“Well… people from our school tend to behave well, so it oughta be fine2. I heard that it’s different for most normal schools, though.”
“Then, can we stop at a café on our way back? I think that’s something adolescents do after school.”
Today, since it was her first day at school, club activities had been cancelled. In other words, we’d have free time after classes were over. I wasn’t hurting for cash either (though I prided myself of being skilled at managing money, so I never had been), so we should be fine.
Stoppin’ for a café with my girlfriend on the way back from school. Now I’m kinda gettin’ excited, too.
“Oh, I can see the school’s entrance.”
As I got lost in my thoughts, we reached the school before we knew it. I’d experienced that when I went there together with Ayumu; it felt like time passed faster if you were together with someone else.
“Then this is where we part for now.”
Rir still had no shoe cubby assigned to her, and she would show her face at the staff room before coming to our class. Since she had to introduce herself as a transfer student.
“Woof, I’ll see you during home room!”
She left while waving at me and then ran toward the staff room’s door.
Footnotes:
- Sounds more like they wisened up and now only target them when Shuu isn’t around.
- Not sure about that. The original is closer to “our school is particularly well-behaved”. I assume that means the students, but maybe it instead means the school is on good terms with the shops?
