…That’s right.

I once heard something from my old man… or it might’ve been a criminal psychology researcher who was friends with him.

It went like this; for children to develop morals, they need to communicate with their surroundings, be taught by their parents, and be educated at school during their growth process. If they don’t receive all of that, there is a high chance not to form a proper set of morals.

Those who still develop morals without those factors or special treatment, either were smart from the beginning, or it only appears to their surroundings as if they never had those necessary experiences.

I mean, it makes sense. If you grow up without anyone teachin’ you what’s right or wrong, you won’t have a moral sense¹.

Come to think of it… Rir’s parents died when she was quite young, didn’t they? And from that point on she grew up without ever goin’ to school in this world. Well, I might be wrong, I just know what she told me. Still, if her livin’ environment was as I think it was, she shouldn’t have grown up into such a good person in the first place.

Assumin’ I’m correct, I can think of three things.

First: While they were alive, her parents taught her various things, so her personality had already formed.
Second: While it is unclear who abused her, she learned something from her experiences during that time.
Third: Rir is smart.

I mean, no matter how I look at it, I can probably assume she’s smart. Yup, she’s smart. Surely².

Thinkin’ ’bout it this way, there’s only bright people around me. Kanta and Sakura are a given, and Mika was also among the best of our grade. Say what you want ’bout Ayumu, he is Kanata’s brother, so he managed decent test scores just by listenin’ durin’ class. Then there’s Rir… and the girl from Norway.

Ha-ha-ha, they got me there.

“…that’s why, Shuu. Uhm… I will probably cause you trouble.”

Damn. I got all caught up in my own pet theory and didn’t listen to what she said. Not good. I’m sorry, but I’ll just act as if I was listenin’ all along.

While I didn’t know what she’d been talking about, I could guess that she had started to put herself down again.

Rir disentangled her body from mine and nodded.

“Who’ll go in first?” I asked her.
“We can take a bath together.”

…Huh? G-Go in together… she hasn’t suggested that ever since the day after we had sex for the first time. Why’d she bring that up now?

“N-No, if we do that… uhm, I might not… be able to control myself, or… how should I put it, it’s ’cause I’m a boy. I think it’d be pretty rough, y’know.”
“Woof. Alright, if that’s what you want. I just wish we could,” she replied with a smile.

She didn’t drop the smile as she spoke, but her ears were drooping.

I’m so sorry, I didn’t listen.

Convinced that I wouldn’t be worth the man I was if I backed down now, I went into the bathroom together with Rir, who was crying in joy…

1. I’m pretty sure such children would still develop a set of morals suited to their situation, it just wouldn’t be the normal morals people expect.
2. I feel like he’s making too many assumptions here. Also, I don’t remember that many situations that showed her having a proper set of morals/ethics.
3. Hang on, after you promised her on the day she later got killed, you blueballed her for three weeks? Damn, Shuu, there goes all the respect I had for you.
