The next day. We had returned to the castle.

“”””Welcome back!””””

The king, minister, knight commander, archbishop, plus their spouses, who’d probably been lonely without their children for two whole weeks, greeted us.

“We are home! Father, Mother! Everyone!”

Karua, the youngest among the trainees, rushed up to the king and closed in for a hug. He was about to pat her head… when his hand stopped.

“…Might something be wrong?” she asked in confusion.

It wasn’t just the king, everyone here with combat experience had noticed that something was off.

“K-Karua… wh-what in the world is that magic power!?”
“Huh… oh. I worked hard to level-up together with my dear brothers according to what Alim taught us!”

Some of your MP1 leaked out of your body, it was unavoidable. If you got serious, really serious, like an SS-Rank spellcaster going all out, you might emit enough to cause people to faint. In this world where people usually couldn’t see the status screens of others, this was how they measured one’s power.

“Y-You say, you worked hard… Just how high is your magic power, for it to surpass mine…”
“A-All I did was do my very best…?”

Karua looked surprised at how abnormally shocked the king and the others seemed.
Tuhl went to his father to offer some timely help.

“Father.”
“Tuhl, it seems you have become just as strong, haven’t you…?”
“Ah-ha-ha, you’re right. We managed this because we learned the secret of Alim’s power.”

When Tuhl stated this with a smile, the king turned to look at me, still with his eyes wide open.

“In that case, did you get as strong as her?” Queen Karuna asked her son in place of the king, who was still looking between me and his daughter.
“No, Mother. We could never match her by any means. However, we did obtain comparable power.”
“If it’s you who says so, then it probably is accurate…”

If Tuhl, who could inspect the status screens of others, stated that, then there was no room for doubt. They likely came to the conclusion that the trainees hadn’t been empowered by some items.

“…For now, we should hear what happened,” the king proposed after slowly blinking several times.

We moved to another room.

“…just why did no one ever notice?” the king asked with a look of understanding, after he had finished reading Tuhl’s notes in about ten minutes.

These notes… or rather, the journal where Tuhl wrote down the details of my leveling method. With the help of some items, I had created copies and further bestowed those and the original with an enchantment that allowed the user to read it at several times the normal speed.

“S-Still, this might cause issues,” the minister, who was reading one of the copies, commented. “It will even further increase the importance of dungeons.”

On that note, I had opted to only show it to those four people right away – the king, minister, knight commander, and archbishop – who I thought wouldn’t misuse it.

“True, but right now there are more important matters… concerning Reincarnation.” The king slammed the book shut and put it on the table. “Let me just tell you that in advance. I’m currently at level 250. I already knew that the maximum is 255 and that Reincarnation lays beyond.”

Huh, so the king is level 250. That’s a nice number to stop at.

“However… However, I never met someone who actually used Reincarnation, I didn’t expect there to be any who did2.”

From our trainees’ first reaction, I had assumed that the people of this world were ignorant about Reincarnation, but it looked as if I was wrong.

I impulsively raised my hand.

“Uhm, can I ask something?”
“What is it?”
“Erm… I always thought Reincarnation had barely any downsides, so… why did no one ever use it until now?”

Well, if my assumption was correct, then it was because at that point, they had the power to defeat most enemies even without using Reincarnation.

“It’s because no one desires power to the point where they’d deliberately revert to level 1 and reduce their own stats. SSS-Rank magic beasts and such don’t appear in the first place, so the power to bring down several SS-Rank enemies at once is sufficient… that’s what people likely think. I was the same.”

The king was talking less in his usual regal fashion. Maybe his adventurer’s spirit had been rekindled.

“Still, from today on, I’ll… no, we all need to change that way of thinking. Reincarnation is likely the path to obtain the power to hold one’s own against an evil god.”

He vigorously leaned back in his chair and suddenly showed a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

“Well, still. This is this, and that is that. Let us rejoice in you all having completed your training and returning to us stronger!”

The other fathers gave approving nods at the king’s words. In the end, it was the right decision to show them the journal. Though I wasn’t sure what I would do if they went and said things like “I’ll also become stronger and turn to evil”.

TL notes:
This marks the end of the training. It did answer some questions that readers likely had, mainly about why natives never took advantage of dungeon respawns or Reincarnation. Let’s just hope the royals will use their new powers responsibly.

Footnotes:

  1. In the original, he talks about a magic power (魔力) stat. While there is a spellpower stat, what is normally referred to as magic power is MP that had been readied for spell/skill-use.
  2. I can only assume that they didn’t know how the “Apex” title is tied to Reincarnation, or Tuhl should’ve found out that Alim and Mika used it (assuming that the stat appraisal skill doesn’t show the reincarnation counter). Though, seeing how Tuhl had no knowledge about Reincarnation, it’s possible that he simply didn’t realize it at the time.
