“Hey… Alim.” For some reason, Ruin had a faraway look in his eyes.
“What is it?”
“At what point are we now?”

He was likely asking how strong they were currently.

“Do you remember the archdemons that showed up during the war?”
“Right, those guys.”
“They were about as strong as SS-Rank subspecies… As you are now, with Miss Myuri’s support magic and using your skills, you should manage to defeat one in a single attack.”
“I see.”

Ruin closed his eyes, seeming to think about something, before opening them again, gazing at the enormous gate towering in front of us.

“What rank is the true boss of the dungeon again?” he asked.
“SS-Rank subspecies,” I replied.
“Gotcha.”

It had been ten days since they used Reincarnation for the first time. They ended up using it a total of 32 times. At this point, there was no way they would lose.

At the start, I planned to have them use it only two to three times. I never expected the training to get to this point.

“Karua, if you would,” Ruin said.
“Of course!”

She took out a new key box we had just obtained from the hidden room and held up to the gate.
The gate glowed in a color I couldn’t quite describe and then opened ominously, giving off a feeling of immense magic power.

“Alright, everyone! This is it!” Orgo yelled.
“Yes!” Myuri agreed.
“It felt long, but it was pretty short,” Lilo mused.
“What will Father and the others say when we return?” Ruin wondered.
“But our stats are still lower than Alim’s,” Tuhl replied.
“Now, now, it is Alim who you are talking about, Dear Brother,” Karua commented.

While thinking back on their hard work to get here, we entered the gate.

It was dark inside. Or rather, there was some mechanism illuminating the place where we walked. It was quite strange.

We marched for a while without finding anything of note. After about two minutes, we stopped. Or rather, Orgo, who was walking in the vanguard came to a halt.

“Is something wrong, Orgo,” Ruin called out to him.
“Well… it’s the boss, y’know.”

Orgo was staring into the darkness. We all turned our gazes where he was looking. Certainly… with my eyes used to the darkness, I could see it. A somewhat indistinct large shape.

«Intruders… Will eliminate… intruders.»

Immediately after this mechanical voice could be heard, the place lit up. It wasn’t just the floor and walls that became visible, but the magic beast in front of us, too.

Its true identity was… a fully mechanical dragon. With things like machine guns attached to its shoulders.

«Unit is designated as “Mechanical Dragon God – Magearna Dragon1“. Entity created by dungeon to eliminate intruders.
«Measuring power of intruders… beep. Of eight intruders… six surpass this unit’s power. Will be unable to even touch remaining two intruders.
«Chances of victory for this unit: 0%. Unit has no means of successfully eliminating intruders.»

Quite a pessimistic analysis. Well… being conscious of your own strength is a good thing, isn’t it?

“It’s saying somethin’… can we attack it already?”
“I’m not sure…”

Orgo and Ruin were inclining their heads, as if they couldn’t understand what the awesome-looking dragon robot was talking about.

«However… according to mother’s orders, must eliminate intruders. Even though likely impossible.»

After saying that, the Magearna Dragon let out one massive roar. It made the air tremble.

“Good… here it comes,” Orgo said.
“…I’ll go first!” Ruin declared.
“Right!”

He stepped forward. And at the same time, I felt the magic power coming from him rise.

He had probably activated Power of Bonds, his dungeon-exclusive skill. At level one, it had increased the user’s stats by 50% for each nearby person, with whom they were close, but at max level, this rose to 100%. In other words, right now, Ruin’s stats had been multiplied at least by seven (since he wasn’t particularly close with Mika).

«Sharp rise in one intruder’s power detected.»
“You’re right. This is everyone’s power! Now… Divine Vigor of Holy Light!”

Ruin further clad himself in an SS-Rank light-type aura skill. On that note, since Karua kept pulling out large amounts of SS-Rank magic cores from the key boxes, he also had the light-elemental version of those SK2 skills that massively increased the power of skills with certain elements, like Mika’s Goddess of Ice and Shuu’s God of Fire.

“Here I go…! Dance of the Heroic Divine Blade of Light2!”

The heroic-sounding light-elemental sword skill cut the Magearna Dragon to pieces, giving it no chance to even reply. Three SS-Rank magic cores fell from the chopped-up body.

“Huh… it’s over already?” I heard someone mutter.

TL notes:
Following Shuu’s encounter in chapter 302, we get another boss who knows exactly how screwed it is. Sure, they are made to kill people invading their dungeons, but part of me can’t help feeling sorry for them.

Footnotes:

  1. The original is マギアナドラゴン (magianadoragon). This is likely a reference to the Magearna pokemon. Or the author tried to avoid some other brand and accidentally picked a pokemon’s name.
  2. Another horrible skill name. The original is 勇神剣光演舞 (“Hero/Brave God Sword Light Dance Performance”).
