The next day. After eating breakfast.

“Then, before we enter the dungeon, Lilo should learn an S-Rank skill,” Ruin said.
“Alim, will you help me find one?”
“Of course I will!”

Today was the third day of the training and we had a strategy session before going back in. Incidentally, yesterday, everyone had gone to bed immediately without checking their status screens.

“Now, try any combination of three or more A-Rank skills in any order you like.”

Lilo closed her eyes and seemed to fiddle with her status screen. Ten minutes later, she opened her eyes and told me the possible synthesis candidates.

“Hrm… there isn’t any huge difference between those… let’s go with ‘Boisterous Blaze of the Brilliant Breeze¹‘.”
“A-Alright.”

Lilo then used several S- and A-Rank magic cores she had gotten from Karua. Shortly later, she opened her eyes with an exhausted but satisfied look.

“I did it…! This is amazing!”

She kept opening and closing her hands while staring at them.

“Did you allocate points to it?”
“Yeah, I did! I maxed it out…!”

So, she had maxed out an S-Rank skill… Maybe they could already defeat an S-Rank enemy at that point.

“Then… in the next round, let’s check what comes after the A-Rank group. If my assumption is correct, then that should be the end.”
“We won’t clear the dungeon, right?” Ruin asked.
“Obviously.”

They all stood up.

“Then… let’s go!”

There hadn’t been any difficulties up to the hidden room. We had done the group with the A-Rank and its B-Rank cronies first, before returning here, challenging the room after updating stat point distributions.

At that point, Lilo was level 110. With two uses of her S-Rank magic, she scored an auspicious national treasure level clear.

“Of course!”

Maybe because the national treasure level reward had her excited, Karua walked up to the chest with buoyant stops before opening it.

Everyone peered inside. There were six S-Rank magic cores.

“You did it! With those, you can synthesize Secret Sword Techniques!”
“What!? Secret Sword Techniques!?” Orgo shouted.

“A Rainbow… Emperor… Dog!?” I blurted out.

Indeed, it was the very first boss I fought.

That can’t be right, there wasn’t even an S-Rank enemy in the hidden room! …Still, I did encounter a deteriorated S-Rank specimen in the past². That’s probably it.

“C-Can we defeat that?” Lilo asked with an anxious look.

While she was equal to an S-Ranker with her current power, she wasn’t used to it yet.

“It will be fine! If you use your remaining MP, I’m sure you can beat it.”
“Y-You’re right! I’ll do my best!”

We gradually closed the distance to the Rainbow Emperor Dog while talking… Before long, we stood face to face with it.
Heh-heh-heh, its pelt looks just as pretty as last time.

1. It’s been a while since we had a horrible skill name. The original is 仁光風の爆炎乱舞術 (“benevolence light wind’s explosion boisterous dance magic”). I shortened it somewhat, removed the benevolent (since the skill seems to be purely offensive) and ended up with an alliterative name by accident.
2. In the original, he says that Shuu and Kanata encountered deteriorated S-Rank monsters, but all they had was a deteriorated A-Rank and an A-Rank subspecies.
