“Mh~! It was quite delicious this time!” Ruin gave his evaluation.

An hour after going to take a nap, we had a slightly early lunch. On that note, I had cooked the meal using the meat of the defeated Child Dragon. Seeing you didn’t get these every day1.

“Thank you for your kind words! Now, shall we dive in again?”

When I proposed that, they all started to re-equip their gear. Without a break, we moved back into the dungeon.

The first group of magic beasts… consisted of two Child Dragons this time.

“From the start again, huh?” Orgo murmured once they came into view.

Incidentally, changing where which monsters were stationed was a characteristic of joy-type dungeons.

“Well, that was the goal,” I murmured back.
“What do you mean?”
“Heh-heh~, you haven’t realized?”
“Realized what?”

They all looked at each other with visible confusion.
Alright, I should tell them already! About Alim-style dungeon exploration!

“When you leave and re-enter a dungeon, all the magic beasts reappear, don’t they?”
“Yes. It’s quite a bother. If you have to leave to take a break or since you’ve run out of food, you’ll have to redo everything from the start. If you enter with several people, you’ll have to decide on a luggage carrier.”

Indeed, that was basic common knowledge in this world. The weird thing was that, among the tens of thousands of people, not a single one noticed the advantages of dungeons until now, except for transmigrators from other worlds. It was as if a spell had been cast on them, to keep them from realizing until someone told them2.

If I had asked Surtr back then, he might have shed some light on the mystery, but… it might be better that way. I’d prefer not to delve into any problematic topics.

“But, putting it the other way, wouldn’t that mean you can hunt magic beasts to your heart’s content?”
“…? I’m not sure I follow, could you explain what you mean?” Tuhl asked, as he picked up a pen to make notes. The other five also showed a keen interest.
“Magic beasts… normally, they don’t just appear out of nowhere, right3?”
“Well, obviously.”
“But if you leave and re-enter a dungeon, that’s exactly what happens. That means you can obtain magic cores and materials again and again. That also goes for experience points.”

The six of them fell into thought for a while. After pondering for about a minute… Karua, who seemed to have understood something, let out a shout.

“In… in that case, you are right!? You can easily gather magic cores, materials, and experience…!! In other words, dungeons are an inexhaustible trove of materials, as long as you possess a certain amount of power…!!”
“You got it.”

At Karua’s realization, the other five suddenly showed indescribable expressions.

“Huh… what does that mean?” Ruin asked in confusion. “The dungeon itself… offers a great deal more treasure than if you were to carelessly clear it, which would only get you a title and legend grade items…!!?”
“Yes, that’s true!” I replied.
“Why did no one realize that before!? We…” Orgo wondered.
“Th-This was not written in any books, either!?” Myuri added.
“Wow… that something like this would…” Lilo mused.

They each raised their voices in astonishment and awe.
…I wonder if it was the same for Rir.

“Then… I see, that’s how you got this strong, Alim…!” Ruin guessed.
“Yes. I repeatedly defeated magic beasts suited to my level, and when I met you, I had the strength equal to an A-Rank adventurer. I started from level 1.”

I did defeat several weaker enemies before I discovered the dungeon, so I might be misrepresenting facts here, but the gist stays the same… Though what I still don’t get is how I managed to defeat the Rainbow Emperor Dog and the Golden King Dog so easily. Was that dungeon special, after all?

“I’m still… not sure how to feel about this,” Ruin murmured, “but… seeing we’re here, let’s repeatedly exit and re-enter the dungeon! First things first, we need to defeat those Child Dragons.”
“That’s right. Since you’ve all realized that, I’ll teach you how to most efficiently do ’rounds’.”
“In that case, how should we deal with these Child Dragons, Alim? Have Lilo defeat them quickly with magic?”

Those were foes they could comfortably win against even without magic, so it would be better not to use it.
I shook my head.

“First, Ruin, Orgo, please defeat them with your weapons using no skills. For now, just use support magic.”
“Understood. Myuri, if you would.”
“Of course.”

She cast support magic on the two swordsmen. They immediately lunged at the Child Dragons. Moving somewhat better than before coming to this dungeon, they defeated their foes in tens of seconds.

Well… if they’re at this level, it should work out.

“Alright… to the next group!”

Footnotes:

  1. Except for the thousands of them from the first dungeon still in Alim’s bag.
  2. Remember Samaeyl’s comment in chapter 384 about it being weird how Uruto got this strong without otherworldly interference? This is likely the reason for her astonishment.
  3. That makes me wonder where they are coming from. Do magic beasts reproduce normally, or are they created once enough of something like miasma accumulates? If it’s the former, wouldn’t Mika’s countrywide rain of death in volume 7 have utterly destroyed Mephilad’s ecosystem?
