I immediately left the room.

Well, I had expected as much, and it didn’t betray those expectations in a bad way, so far. It would be nice if the way the magic beasts appeared was unconventional.

I ran towards the large room I could see from where I was. As it came into view, I couldn’t help but wonder why it was so big. A few seconds later, I reached the room, and the usual large gate was in front of me. It looked like it always did. Other than that… clashing with the floor made of wooden planks… there were five round patterns with faint light leaking from them.

What is this…?
When I examined those circular things, the leftmost one shone intensely, and from it… a magic beast emerged!

“Oh!”

It was as if it had been summoned from somewhere.
That’s so cool! I couldn’t see that coming at all!

“Wrath” required you to defeat something to go to the next room. “Grief” demanded you to clear several rooms in any order you liked. “Joy” had monsters on the path. And finally, “Delight” had one single large room, where foes were summoned from circular shapes.

The magic beast that had appeared was a humanoid lizard and, as far as I knew, it should’ve been around C-Rank. Still, this was the most unusual way for a magic beast to appear that had ever graced my eyes.

“Kishaaaaah!”
“Ha!”
“Gbeaaaaah!”

I kicked the lizardman who was about to assault me. I flew into a corner with absurd force, hit the wall, and spattered blood all around. Cleaning that up would be tough.

When I appraised it from a distance, I learned that it was, in fact, C-Rank, and – seeing I likely didn’t need the magic core and materials – decided to leave it where it was.

The circle next to the one where the lizardman had come from lit up. This time, a skeleton that was riding on a lizard appeared.
This is the first time I’m fighting a skeleton, but punching it should work, right?

“*Clack-clack-clack*!”
“Kishaaaaah!”
“Ha!”

I kicked the lizard’s head and then punched the skeleton’s cranium in the same move. Both breathed their last while dropping C-Rank magic cores.

After appraising it, I learned that the skeleton was apparently called a “Bone Man”… How original. It also said that its bones were good fertilizer… but that was about it.

This time, the rightmost circle lit up. From it, not a lizardman… but a fish-man emerged. It wasn’t a merman, you see? It had a fish’s head on a human body and was different from fish-type beastfolk.

Moreover, for some reason, it was carrying a spear and was so muscular, you couldn’t call it anything but a body builder. It looked hideous.

It wasn’t the handsome muscular type like Shuu. This was clearly an example of strength training going too far…

“*Huff*.”

A blue magic circle expanded. It was Water Cannon.
Hang on, even though this guy is a mass of muscles, he’s using magic?

I struck down the invoked Water Cannon with one hand and then shot back my own version of the spell. However, there was a clear difference in power.

“Pigiii…!”

The muscle-fish was blown away. Nothing but his lower half remained. Then, a B-Rank magic core emerged from it.

Hrm, looks like only humanoid foes appear here1. To be honest, I don’t want to dismantle humanoid magic beasts, and every few tens of seconds, another foe appears… I’m glad this wasn’t the first dungeon I encountered when I came to this world.

On top of that, for people at a high level like me, that pause after every foe would make it hard to go through the dungeon quickly.

…I mean, I was thinking of clearing this type of dungeon for the title, so this place might be fine for that. Hm~… though it is quite the spectacle when you see it for the first time.

Or rather, I had gotten to the point where I can criticize dungeons like this. At the start, I was constantly shocked, but at this point, I was completely used to it.

The circle next to the one where the abominable fish-man had come from lit up, and from it… a man with the face of a squid riding on a four-legged shark emerged.
Hang on… that’s right… I faintly remember it… wasn’t this guy called Cthulhu2? I think that was the name.

It was holding a whip in his hand.

“Kukiki!”
“Graaaah!”

From the squid-man’s hands and the shark’s mouth, a total of three magic circles expanded. They were for Wind, Water, and Thunder Cannon. I cancelled out the magic, that had been shot off all at once, with one hand again, and at the same time, invoked my own Thunder Cannon.

Maybe due to the effects of that one SK2 skill, both opponents vanished without a trace.
I’ve gotten quite strong, haven’t I?

While I was thinking that, the final remaining circle in the center lit up. It shone more brightly than the others had, and two more foes appeared.

A creature, which I didn’t know how best to describe other than it having pallid skin, no face, and just some shark-like teeth poking through, was riding on a four-legged shark with a different color from the one before (likely a subspecies).

The fishman had been hideous, but this thing topped it in weirdness.

“Nornu Teni Tsüsa Tosne Zuko Samu3!”
“Graaaaa!”

It sounded as if it was using human words. It felt extremely creepy.

For some reason, it came at me with a water sword summoned by magic, so – not wanting to be touched by it – I erased it with a Thunder Ball.

As usual after all the challenges had been cleared, the big door opened slowly.
Let’s return to the others.

TL notes:
We jump into volume 16 with the most hilarious enemies we have seen so far. I just wish I could say this will be a trend for this volume…

Anyway, the next 31 chapters will take us back to dungeons and leveling, although thankfully without all the stat-screen spam. Plus, we’re actually getting to see how normal people (without crazy cheats or the mindset of someone routinely grinding for weeks) tackle a dungeon!

Footnotes:

  1. Well, the mounts aren’t humanoid, but I guess the main enemies are.
  2. Sounds more like a mind flayer, but I guess you need high mental resistance for both if you want to come out of the encounter in a sane state.
  3. The original is のるぬてにつえさとすねつこさむ. Since it doesn’t look like proper grammar and DeepL didn’t even try to make sense of it, I assume it’s meant as some gibberish.
