“You did well to come here. Alim, Mika. And you sages and your companion.”
We were in the throne room. The king was obviously sitting on his throne in the middle. To his right was the queen, and to his left Tuhl, the first prince. Ruin and Karua stood nearby, and along the wall were Orgo, Myuri, Lilo, and Myuri’s father, the archbishop.
Wow, all of them look so serious.
That was how it appeared, but I was sure this heavy atmosphere would crumble the moment the king showed a smile. Besides, there weren’t any guards and it seemed like the only people present were those with a connection to us.
“We are Mephilad’s king, Kelm Mephilad. We thank you for heeding our summons,” the king spoke as he stood up and held his staff aloft.
Hm~, he does have some majesty, doesn’t he?
“Then, sages. Might we learn your names?”
Unsurprisingly, Kanata was the first to step forward.
“It’s an honor to meet you, Your Majesty. I am called Kanata and was summoned to this world as a sage.”
For some reason, Kanata’s bow looked as if he was super used to these kinds of situations.
Where in the world did he learn such refined etiquette?
“My… my name is Sakura.”
“I am Shuu.”
“I… I… a-am Rir1!”
The three others followed suit with their self-introductions, but… in the end, Kanata’s introduction was the best.
“Hrm… So, you sages wish to live in our country…”
“Yes, Your Majesty, for a multitude of reasons,” Kanata answered.
“Hm, the hero, Alim Nariwei, made an appeal to let you you to stay in this country… And as a result of ongoing negotiations, it seems likely the other country will let you sages go. Or rather, it has all but been decided. Therefore, you may sojourn in our country for as long as you wish.”
“…You have our deepest gratitude, Your Majesty!”
Kanata bowed his head with a joyful expression. The other three hurriedly followed his example.
The king had likely risen in Kanata’s esteem. He tended to improve his evaluation of people who treated him well.
“Now. Today, we summoned you sages, the hero Alim, Mika, and none except those related to you. During my talks with Alim, her bearing changed for some reason when speaking about you sages, so I could not help but become intrigued.”
The king smiled. The serious mood crumbled and returned to how it usually was. Rir and Sakura seemed startled by the sudden change, but that was how the king rolled.
“Your Majesty, I will take it from here!” I spoke up.
“Hrm, please do… It might be uncomfortable to keep standing. Let us move to a room better suited for talking.

I told them how Mika and I came from a different world (obviously, with me having been a girl in my original world). Then, that Kanata was my younger brother, Sakura Mika’s younger sister, and Shuu our best friend. I gave them almost the same explanation that Rir had gotten.
The faces of everyone present, except for those already in the know, showed bafflement.
“Hrm… that’s unexpectedly hard to believe…” the king commented after stroking his beard for a while.
Karua, on the other hand, stood up excitedly and vigorously, likely suddenly having relized something.
“Come to think of it… it does make sense! Back then, you served us this dish called ‘Sushi’, did you not? That was from your world, no?”
“Oh… that’s true! I see now,” Lilo agreed with the princess, likely having remembered that dish2.
“Yes, you’re correct! Uhm… I’m sorry for hiding it until now, I never lost my memory…”
The king raised his hand at my apology. He seemed to be implying that there was no need.
“Hrm, usually, no one would have believed that story. I would say claiming amnesia might have been for the best. Nevertheless…”
After looking at Kanata and Sakura, the king continued speaking.
“To think your ages were this different. From what you said, it does seem that things in this world progress more slowly3.”
Oh, the king is sharp! Just from my story, he judged that time flows differently between here and there.
“…Still, Alim, Mika, how were you able to come to this world? You told me that you died in your home world, but I don’t understand. I can grasp that your younger siblings and your best friend were summoned here as sages, but…”
“We don’t understand that either. The explanation we got from the god only said that it was out of compassion…” Mika added on my explanation.
We truly had no idea.
Was there some kind of aim? Even if there wasn’t, why would it just happen to Mika, me… and one other person4?
“Nonetheless, to be reunited in another world with your relatives and friends seems close to a miracle!”
“Indeed, it truly cannot be called anything but the guidance of the gods…!”
Queen Karuna and Archbishop Chris commented so with shining eyes. As the archbishop, he likely had a weakness when it came to the word “miracle”. Although this might also be his own distorted view.
“…Does that mean you were the one who conquered Pipi Village’s dungeon, Alim?” Ruin asked.
Hm, that probably bothered him. After all, it was the place where I first met him and his party.
“Yes, that’s correct! It took me around a week to conquer it.”
When he heard that reply, Ruin looked shocked.
“You started at level 1 in that forest and managed to conquer a dungeon!? You’re incredible, Alim…”
“Dear Brother, they told us that the sages possessed marvelous powers from the beginning,” Karua cut in. “It must have been the same for Alim and Mika, who also come from another world.”
“True… it would make sense if they did…!”
They reached that conclusion without ever trying to confirm it, but all Mika and I got was the ability to speak, read, and write the language.
…Well, explaining that would be a pain, so let’s leave it like this.
TL notes:
This is the first chapter (at least among those I translated) where the people in the castle seem to be in full “official audience” mode. It goes to show just how trusted Alim and Mika are there, for them to always be treated so casually.
Footnotes:
- She actually managed to speak this time during an audience. That’s progress.
- When I first read this chapter, it coincided with me just having translated the chapters (259 & 260) where they eat Sushi, so I was like, “right, that just happened”. Nope, that was more than 4 volumes ago. Though from Karua’s perspective, only a few days passed.
- I’m not sure what he means here. Is he referring to Alim and Mika being reverted to 12-year-olds, or does he mean that Kanata and Sakura don’t look like 14-year-olds? How would that translate as time passing differently? Plus, from everything we’ve learned, time passes more quickly on Anazumu than on Earth.
Edit: From the way it’s worded in the Light Novel, things seem to grow slower on Anazumu (12 Anazumu years are almost 16 Earth years, but 12-year-olds there look the same as 12-year-olds on Earth). - I assume he’s talking about Mephistophales, although that one didn’t die but was summoned by some god out of boredom.
