Author’s note:
We’re in the middle of the fight against Surtr, but since it’s Halloween, have a side story! It is completely unrelated to the main story.
I woke up.
I checked the clock, which had a feature that also let it show the date. Today was the 31st of October. Halloween.
…Not that this had any special meaning. This world didn’t have the custom of wearing costumes on October 31st (not that they’d even call it October), so no one except for people from Earth knew that today wasn’t a normal day. For that reason, I thought about spending it just like every other day.
“Happy Halloween, Ayumu! Trick or Treat!”
Indeed, Mika had jumped on the Halloween train.
Immediately after hearing her cute voice, I had a thought. It was due to the enigmatic “Trick” part. Still in the same posture I had woken up in, I decided to ask her a question.
“If I choose ‘Trick’… what will you do?”
“Mrr…! I’m wearing a costume, could you turn around?”
“O-Oh, sorry.”
No choice but to check it out. After all, Halloween was the only time when I could see Mika in such strange outfits.
She was wearing a black, steepled hat and a black dress, and she was holding a broom. A witch, huh? Halloween only happens once a year, so she could have dressed a bit sexier.
“Heh-heh-heh, I’m a witch~!”
“You sure are, no mistaking it.”
“Yeah! Come on, isn’t today Halloween? I wanted to get a bit in the mood. So, back to the main topic… Trick or treat?” she asked me with upturned eyes while holding out her hand.
It went without saying that she looked adorable. Still, the word “Trick” had enough impact to blow it away.
“If I choose ‘Trick’… what will you do? I mean, I asked you that just earlier…”
When I said that, Mika’s eyes turned wide in surprise.
“Sorry! I probably didn’t hear it.”
What, she seriously missed that? Guess it can’t be helped.
“Let me think, according to the word ‘Trick’, I think that means if you don’t give me any treats, Ayumu, you’ll have to play a trick on me…!” she explained bashfully.
“Okay…?”
So, if I didn’t give her any sweets, I should play a prank on her? I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works.
With that being said, I decided to give her a treat. I wanted to avoid excessive physical intimacy so early in the morning.
“Alright, here you go.”
“Oh, candy! Thank you.”
I gave her some candy on a stick, which wouldn’t disappear after you licked it, but instead changed flavor after a certain number of licks.
“Yummy. It’s a pity you didn’t choose ‘trick’, but it is what it is. Ayumu, will you also put on a costume after breakfast?”
“Sure, I don’t mind.”
“Eh-heh-heh~, I’ve already prepared something I’d like you to wear.”
With those words giving me a bad premonition, we ate breakfast. We made short work of the slices of pumpkin pie we had today.
Incidentally, I wonder what kind of costume Mika has prepared.
Don’t ask me when that was, but back on Earth, Mika once dressed me up in the transformation costume of the protagonist from some anime for little girls. Back then, both Mika and Shuu took tons of pictures. I wasn’t fundamentally averse to wearing girls’ clothes, but in the end, it felt embarrassing.
“I’m ready, come here!”
“Alright…”
What Mika held out was a nostalgic maid outfit with cat ears. Then, there were also knee-high socks and a small chain-link choker.
…This makes me wonder just a bit whether it really was a good idea to give her Dark Matter Creation.
“You want me to wear this?”
“You don’t like it? If you put it on, Ayumu, I’ll wear the same outfit later, you know?”
“Alright, I’ll put it on… Just to ask in advance, should I change my gender1…?”
“Please stay like you are.”
“Gotcha.”
Why did it turn out like this?
I probably shouldn’t have let myself get used to Mika dressing me up in girls’ clothes, but her use of “I’ll wear the same outfit” was mean. That took away any possible reason for me to refuse.
…I absolutely want to see her in it.

“Hah…! It suits you, after all…”
“Y-You think so, meow? Heh-heh, I guess it’s true… meow!”
Mika took pictures with her Tozumaho while looking at me with a spellbound expression. It was the first time I wore this combination of maid outfit, cat-ears, choker, and knee-high socks, so it was somewhat of a fresh experience.
I guess I look cute, after all…
“Alright, I’m done taking pictures! Ayumu, you can take it off if you want to! Dress in something else, alright? I’ll go change now.”
Mika put away the Tozumaho with a satisfied look and moved to a corner of the rooms to change her clothes.
…Hrm, what kind of costume should I wear? To be honest, I’m fine with the current one…
Alternately, I could put on a cheongsam. Or some fluffy dress.
…I think I’ll stay like this.
“M-Meow~. I’m done changing, meow!”
Mika stood in front of me bashfully, wearing the cat-ear maid outfit while striking an “a” pose. If she found it so embarrassing, why did she even say she’d wear it2?
It looked cute… absolutely adorable. It was so cute, if the men of this world saw her, they’d immediately get a nosebleed and pass out from blood-loss. I’d gotten used to it, so I was fine, but she looked very charming.
After I’d been captivated by her appearance for a while, Mika seemed to grow impatient and spoke up again.
“What will you do about your costume, Master, meow?”
“I… I think I’ll also stay like this, meow!”
“Meow! That’s fine for me, meow!”
We both ended up adding meows to our sentences. We were cat-maids, so it couldn’t be helped.
“What will we do later, meow?”
“Meow~… It’s fun putting on costumes, but I don’t think we can top this one… So, how about we enjoy the day by making sweets, meow?”
“Let’s do that, meow~!”
Mika and I started cooking sweets. We made enough so they’d last us for several days as snacks.
Also, we didn’t end up developing a mental cat-maid trauma… we managed to live our lives normally afterwards.
TL notes:
A Halloween side story that ended up more dress-up themed than Halloween themed. Maybe Kemm was right, and the author really has a fashion fetish?
Also, the author mentioned in their comments at the end that they wanted to add an illustration but didn’t have the time.
Footnotes:
- Seeing he uses 俺 in the original here and she calls him Ayumu, he’s likely male at that point.
- Probably since this was the only way for her to get him to wear it in the first place.
