The large sword melted from its center. So, it wasn’t just Surtr himself, even his magic had the power to melt legend grade items… As I thought, I would do well not to take him lightly.
“Oh-ho! That sure was some amazing sword. Still, it was powerless faced with ME!” Surtr commented with a relaxed expression.
True, if that was how his Fireballs turned out, I could see why he was so composed. If I hadn’t used Reincarnation so much, I wouldn’t have been able to retaliate against this.
“Yep… that’s true…!”
If physical attacks didn’t work, I’d use magic. To complement the new skill, I’d learned the other day… not Peerless Divine Thunder, but God of Thunder, I created accessories worn on the neck, arms, and legs, which raised the power of thunder skills, and equipped them.
Then, similar to Surtr’s spell, I shot off a Thunderball. It looked like it was the same size and power as the earlier Fireball.
Heh-heh, I’m surprised this worked on the first try.
At such a scale, even the Golden Rose Queen Dragon would’ve died in a single attack. At any rate, I could provide as many shields for our side as needed, but what about our adversary? How would he defend against it?
“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! That’s great…!” Surtr yelled, as a Fireball like the one before appeared in front of him.
It collided with my Thunderball. The resulting explosion and shockwave, even though this was only beginner magic, was comparable to a clash between full-powered attacks of SS-Rank adventurers.
Another cloud of dust and sand rose. I immediately cleared away the obstructions to my line of sight, but it was just as I feared. On the other end of my, now clear, view was Shuu’s pitch-black face, the disgusting grin never having left it.
“In that case… How about this?” the Black God announced.
It happened when my line of sight had cleared up fully. Surtr’s next attack also consisted of Fireballs. Only, it was 200… no, probably more like 500 of them. I didn’t try counting them.
It was such an insane amount, an ordinary, powerless person could’ve done nothing but despair1. 500 balls of fire, each of them seemingly indistinguishable from a star, were all around us.
“…W-What the hell… is this…?” Kanata muttered.
Going by that, my little brother’s Ball spells likely couldn’t reach that level.
Hmph, mine… and Mika’s probably too, can. Your big brother has surpassed you!
“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! What will you do, c’mon, how will you handle this, esteemed Hero who vanquished Samayel? Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!”
“Easy.”
I rushed up towards the sky. Everything stopped, as if I had left both sound and the atmosphere behind. Indeed, I had entered the Zone and was moving at extreme speeds. In this state, I absorbed all the Fireballs.
Kanata and Sakura went without saying, but not even Mika and Surtr should have been able to see my movements. Once all the Fireballs were gone, I landed back in my original position and put a calm expression on my face.
I cancelled the Zone.
“Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha… ha…?”
“See, told you it was easy.”
Surtr stared at me intently. Moreover, he seemed quite serious. Right now, his face looked very much like Shuu’s.
Well, he is possessing Shuu’s body. I need to free him quickly. I want to go back to smooching with Mika already.
“This… isn’t the same as Kanata’s skill… is it? Oh, I see, you moved rapidly, didn’t you?”
My trick had been analyzed in a flash.
Surely that guy can’t be smarter than Kanata, right…?
“I could see it, you know?”
What the hell, he could? How disappointing. I thought Shuu had become monstrously smart, but I guess I was wrong.
Or rather, it’s the opposite. He was able to see my instantaneous movements. That’s just as bad.
“Seriously, you could see that?”
“To think that a living being could move that fast… I didn’t expect any less of the famous Alim, who already defeated an evil god…! Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!”
When he said the name “Alim”, it felt like he could see through me. Was this just my imagination?
He doesn’t know I’m male, right?
Both back on Earth and in this world, people saw me as a girl… and a beautiful one at that, even at the times I was a boy.
Well, more importantly, what should I do for my next attack? Surtr deliberately defended, so magic should have an effect, even if it was slight. It might be best to focus on magic for attacking.
“Now… here I go.”
I decided to be stubborn2. I didn’t want to lose to my foe bringing out 500 spells at once.
So, I created lots and lots of Thunderballs. A truly crazy amount, around 10’000 of them.
“Eh…?”
“Hang on… Big Bro!?”
Both Sakura and Kanata seemed shocked. It couldn’t be helped, seeing the whole sky had turned bright yellow.
“Great… this is THE BEST… Bring it!”
“Alright.”
I immediately sent the small-sized stars on their way, with Surtr as their target.
Footnotes:
- I’m pretty sure a single of those oversized Fireballs would be enough to scare a normal Anazuman out of their wits.
- The original is 維持を張る (“to pull maintenance”). I assume that’s an error and meant to be 意地を張る (“to not give in”, “to be stubborn”). Both 維持 and 意地 have the same pronunciation.
