“…If he’s going all out now, what happened to Shuu?” Mika murmured.
“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Isn’t it obvious that I‘m suppressing him again? I let him out a bit for fun, but the truth is that it’s impossible for him to steal MY body back1!”

It looked like Surtr heard her, even though her voice had been rather quiet. Maybe we didn’t have to go out of our way to keep shouting.

…Nevertheless, he’s completely suppressing Shuu. It can’t be helped. We’re doing this the old-fashioned way.

“Kanata, do you have the item needed to seal him?”

If there was something like the Hero’s Sword, that would make this easy…

“Yep, it’s this thing.”

Kanata came to me and held out a bladed spear. The appraisal results showed it as a legend grade weapon called “Gungnir – Sage’s Spear”. It was apparently restricted to sages.

“Ah, only you guys can use this weapon…”
“Yup, that’s how it looks. This is something you can’t utilize, Big Bro, just me, the jet-black messenger…!”
“There’s Sakura, too. Also, I know you’d like to show off, but I’ll be the one to make sure you can seal the Black God.”

I took a few more steps towards Surtr.

“Mika, please make sure Kanata and Sakura aren’t hurt, will you?” I told her, looking back over my shoulder. “From now on, I’ll fight mostly on my own.”
“Alright.”
“And Kanata, throw these at a suitable moment.”

I created a large number of Gungnirs at Kanata’s feet. Same as when I fought Samaeyl, it might be a good idea to prepare lots of sealing items.

“Wha-!? Are all those Gungnirs…?”
“Yep. I can create as many of them as I want, as long as they’re on that level. If you run out, just give me a shout.”
“I… I will…”

This should do it.

“What did you say, you want a thrilling fight that makes the blood boil?” I yelled, turning back towards Surtr. “Well, I’ll give you one…!”

When Surtr heard that, he put the same disgusting smile from before on his face. As I mentioned earlier, Shuu’s smile looked much more pleasant in comparison.

“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You have MY thanks…! So, shall we commence our exciting battle…? Can we start already? I‘m itching to go! C’mon already.”

That moment, Shuus body blazed brightly, as if it had turned into a ball of flames. He had such terrible firepower, the heat was strong enough that, even at this distance, it felt as if my body had been dunked in boiling water.

Well, that was impression I got, so I immediately created legend grade items that raised fire resistance, and distributed five of those to everyone, including me. If we had put up with this heat as we were, even our clothes might have melted at some point.

“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Hot, isn’t it?”
“Well, I guess.”

I wonder, what will happen to Shuu’s body in such a heat? He’s an aspiring firefighter, so he could be used to it… maybe. That probably isn’t it, more likely his body doesn’t even get hot2.

“Then, if you would, Kanata.”

My brother grabbed one of the Gungnirs and threw it with all his might. It flew at hyper-speed, looking like a laser beam, and drew a strangely appealing trajectory3 as it flew towards Surtr.

However…

“Tsk, tsk, tsk… this won’t work.”

The moment it should’ve hit Surtr, the spear started to melt. If this had been all, it wouldn’t have been so bad.

Surtr’s body, seemingly made of fire, let the spear pass through freely. Moreover, at the point when it had passed through up to the grip, the Gungnir had been melded down to nothing.

…Scary.

It was safe to assume that he was different from Samayel, who summoned tens of thousands of helpers and used those to attack. Looking at it from a different perspective, if she was quantity, then he was all quality. He was surely more powerful than anything I had fought before.

“Ha-ha! That was useless…! How will you deal with this? ‘Fireball’… there you go!”

It was at Surtr’s back. What appeared there… was a Fireball of the same size and with the same contained magic power as the giant suns created by the SS-Rank skill that had led us to this place… Indeed, it was most certainly a Fireball…!
There had been no magic circle, and the invocation was no different from an ordinary Fireball. It was completely abnormal.

With stats at the cap and then further multiplied dozens of times, one of my own Fireballs might end up the same. Probably… not that I’ve ever tried that.

“Disappear.”

The moment Surtr muttered that, the ultra-giant Fireball shot off. It closed in on us with insane speed, melting the ground on its way.

I started getting worried whether even the Divine Sword might manage to absorb it. As a first step, I stabbed a legend grade sword of the magic power absorption type, which was as big as the fireball, into the ground. It would serve as a barrier.

“Bro… what is this…!?” Kanata yelled in surprise.

I probably would’ve been shocked too, if such a sword suddenly appeared out of nowhere… Still, the spell ended up breaking through.

Footnotes:

  1. So, Surtr was putting on an act, but Shuu is still alive, so that’s good news, I guess?
  2. Seeing how God of Fire let’s Shuu absorb fire attacks, this likely heals him.
  3. The original is 起動 (“boot up”). This is likely an error and meant to be 軌道 (“orbit”, “trajectory”). Both words are pronounced the same way.
