“Morning, Ayumu~, I love you~.”
“Ah-ha-ha, I love you even more~.”
“…In that case, I love you the most!”
With this kind of banter, we woke up.
Yesterday, we racked our brains and made some strong skills, but I wonder if we should add a few more. Guess I’ll ask what Mika thinks.
“Should we create more skills today?”
“Eh, from tomorrow on, we’ll have to work again for several days, won’t we? Let’s go on a date today, a date!”
“Hm, gotcha.”
So, after we had breakfast, we set out on our date. Obviously, we were wearing disguises, so for anyone but Mika and me we’d look like different girls.
Today’s weather should be nice, right?
We hadn’t fully decided what activities to do on this date, so for now, we went to watch a play. As for what said play was about, well, it was a love story about two people with different social standing1, which was normal enough, but what surprised was the behavior of the people around us. Almost all of them seemed to be couples, and once the play moved onto the kiss scene, they started smooching.
Come to think of it, I remember one of the magazines that had us on its cover had a column about a recent fad concerning couples exchanging kisses during such scenes in plays. I’d forgotten about that. And here I thought we were the only ones acting like that in this world. Guess you find lovebirds everyone.
“They’re all kissing…”
“In that case, they leave us no choice, right?”
“Eh-heh-heh…”
Mika brought her face closer, as her cheeks turned red. I met her lips. But even though we kissed several times at home every day, it felt embarrassing to do so in public. Moreover, we were two girls sharing a kiss, which got us some strange looks from those around us, but I decided not to let it bother me.
I was used to this reaction.
When the play ended, it was still about an hour before lunchtime, so we wandered around the city without any specific goal in mind. We then entered a public park and, after killing some time, fed us each other the bentos we had made in the morning. That’s how we spent our time.
After finishing the bentos, we linked hands again and walked through the park, when a message appeared in our minds.
The message was from the king.
Mika and I looked at each other. It had sounded awfully urgent.
“I wonder if something happened.”
“Did Karua get kidnapped again?”
“That can’t be it. I didn’t get any notification… For now, let’s rush to the castle.
“Yeah.”
Mika and I ran to the castle at full speed2, arriving there in the blink of an eye. Though the guards at the gates of the castle didn’t seem particularly flustered, they still let us in.
…Is it just the king who’s this panicked?
While greeting the people we met inside the castle, we made our way to the king’s room and knocked on the door.
“Ah, you’re here! Come in,” the king bid us to enter.
His voice did sound somewhat panicked, after all. We opened the door and went inside.
“My sincere apologies if I caught you at a busy time. It’s an emergency… For now, have a seat.”
As urged by the king, we sat down in the two chairs he had prepared for us. Like the previous times, they felt very nice to sit on. Mine was the chair with Behemot embroidered on it3.
“I apologize once more for summoning you so suddenly, seeing how much work you have.”
“No, it’s no problem, Your Majesty. We weren’t working today, instead Alim and I were merely spending time outside.”
“I see.”
Though from tomorrow until my birthday, there will be work waiting for us. I’ll also draw pictures for magazine covers. Let me tell you this as the one who has Item Master, it’s crazy how realistic they come out, each time.
…More importantly, I better ask the king what this is about.
“So, what in the world is this emergency?”
“Before I come to the crux of the matter, there’s something else we need to speak about,” the king said, as he took out a map. He placed it on his lap and continued speaking. “You likely know this already, but there are three evil gods in this world. The one who used to be sealed in this kingdom, and whom you destroyed, was Samaeyl, the Demon God.”
I had read about these three beings… or rather, gods in a book. I knew about them, but as long as they posed no danger to this country, I wasn’t planning to get involved with them.
While the equivalent of two trillion yen I got from the kingdom for defeating Saymaeyl would allow me to live in luxury for generations to come, I did continue to work as an adventurer-slash-world renowned idol, and was planning to spend the rest of my long life in peace together with Mika.
The way the king put it, I could guess another one had shown up… another evil god.
“So, in other words, another of these evil gods has appeared… is that what you’re saying, Your Majesty?”
“Hrm. That’s how it is,” the king replied to Mika’s question.
From where this conversation is going… is he saying that he wants us to defeat it?
The king would apparently tell us further details.
TL notes:
This is where volume 13 would theoretically start, but on Syosetsu, this chapter and the next two are still part of volume 12.
We’re back in the Mephilad Kingdom and things seem to come to a head. Assuming the news the king received back in chapter 203 were on the same day as chapter 340 happened, then it’s been 10 days since Loukis declared that 11 days from that point, the war would already have started.
Footnotes:
- Sounds like the same play Uruto and Parasuna watched in chapter 225.
- I just hope he means “full speed that doesn’t destroy the city” instead of “actual full speed”.
- It’s also possible that all the chairs there have Behemot’s image stitched onto them.
