The rabbit-like creature looked like the following: It had fierce eyes, black fur, and sharp incisors, which were longer than those of a normal rabbit. It was roughly the size of an adult in a sitting position.

Is this one of this world’s monsters or something like a magic beast?

When I thought that, the rabbit creature hopped with surprising power.
…and ended up hitting me in the face.

“Ouch~~!” I screamed unintentionally. It was extremely painful.

Since I had fallen on my behind after being hit by its strike, I immediately got back up for a possible follow-up attack. My opponent didn’t take advantage of that opportunity, so I used the time to check my HP (you could apparently check the status screen, even if your eyes weren’t closed).

What, my HP has gone down by 2 points! Seriously? It went down by 1/5th just from that attack now, you know, that’s crazy!

While I was thinking that, the damn rabbit was about to jump again.
Shi̲t!

Don’t make light of me, you piece of bunny crap! Even though I may not look it, I was taught karate by one of the older men1 in the neighborhood for two whole days during the summer holidays, so I can fight properly, you know.

I can do anything if I put my mind to it!

I dodged out of the jumping rabbit’s way and kicked it, as if it was a soccer ball, when it was about to land.

“…Buh~!? Uh? Uh~!!”

Woah, it got angry, didn’t it?
But I’m angry too, you know? About that surprise attack of yours.

“Buh~~~!!”

Maybe because it wasn’t that smart, it used the same attack as just now, so I also kicked it just like before.

“Buh~~!”

It feels like I can hear its frustration from that dissatisfied grumbling.

It looked like it would attack once more. Of course, it was the same attack pattern again. I sent it flying with another kick. Afterwards, it repeated the same thing three times.
It’s rather predictable, isn’t it?

The rabbit seemed to have been weakened considerably, and compared to roughly two minutes ago, its movements had grown rather dull. I took that opportunity, put my whole weight on my leg, and crushed its head.

“Veh~…” the rabbit groaned, and then stopped moving.

…It’s my win.
This feels like animal abuse, but there probably was no other way. It attacked me, after all.

At any rate, that was my first battle since coming to this world, and my first victory.
Woo-hoo!

I suddenly noticed that my body felt as if it was enveloped by warmth.
Maybe I have leveled up?

When I looked at the status screen, it really had risen to level 2. Or rather, I was able to get that explanation for what was written on it2.

Footnotes:

  1. It’s unclear whether he was taught by a single person or several.
  2. Not sure about that part, it might also mean that he set up an explanation for symbols on the status screen.
