“Woof, woof, heh-heh.”

Next to me, Rir was talking in her sleep with a satisfied expression on her face.

Four days had passed since we turned in the magic cores. We still hadn’t received word, but I assumed it was about to happen.

Quietly, so I wouldn’t wake her, I left the bed, took a shower, and then started preparing breakfast. As I was doing that, Rir also woke up.

“Woof! Good morning, Shuu!”
“Oh, mornin’. You can take a shower before we’re havin’ breakfast.”
“Hm… Why not take one together?”
“I already had mine.”
“Woof~…”

I finished making breakfast at about the same time Rir came out of the bathroom, and we ate together.

“What should we do today?” she asked.
“We’re still waiting for word from the guild master.”
“Gotcha. Let’s have a date, then!”
“…Sure.”

We got ready to head out right after we finished eating. Possibly since we went out every day lately, I gradually got used to going on dates.

“Alright, let’s go!”

After lightly tying her red hood, Rir held out her hand to me. She probably wanted me to take it, so I did, and gripped it tightly.

Still holding hands, we left our apartment. That moment, a message arrived in our heads.

Oh, finally.

So instead of going on a date, Rir and I went to the adventurers’ guild. It put her in a straight up bad mood, and she kept frowning.

“It will be three days from now,” The guild master told us, after we had arrived at the guild. That meant it’d be exactly one week after we handed in the magic cores. “There aren’t any big issues either, just go there normally. If you show your guild cards at the gate, they’ll let you into the castle.”
“Ah, understood. Thank you very much, Sir.”
“Woof, thank you for your help.”

This was apparently the main part he wanted to relay to us. He also taught us how to conduct ourselves when going to the castle.

“Be careful when you go there, then.”
“We will.”

Rir and I left the guild.

Then, we went back to our apartment temporarily. I asked Rir to wait there and went to knock on the door of Kanata and Sakura’s room. Kanata came to open it.

“How can I… Oh, Shuu!”
“Hey there. They settled on a day for us to go to the castle. It’ll be three days from now.”
“I see… understood, three days from now it is.”
“Yup.”

Alright, that oughta do it. Just have to wait for three more days.

…As a matter of fact, there were some other things I wanted to ask my neighbors.

“Say, Kanata, Sakura.”
“Is something wrong?”
“Ah… nope, uhm, what do you guys do when you go on dates?”

After shooting me dumbfounded looks, they looked at each other.
Don’t give me these looks. Seriously, stop it. That’s embarrassin’.

“Erm… I just wanted some quick pointers, y’see…”
“Are you going on a date with Rir?” Kanata asked.
“Y-Yep, I do…”

“Sakura, what did we do on our dates again?”
“We went to eat sweets together, didn’t we?”
“Oh yeah, we did.”

I see, I see, go to eat sweets…

Rather than that, why don’t I just ask Sakura what things she likes, seein’ she’s a girl?

“Right, in that case, Sakura, what of the things that Kanata does for you makes you happy?”
“Eh? Oh… let’s see, just by being together with him, I- wrong, that just now was a joke. Well, it wasn’t… just ignore what I said. I said nothing! Eek…”

Sakura ended up fleeing further into the apartment. Kanata had turned red as he listened to her mumbling.
Me? I was grinning. This was just like watching Ayumu and Mika in the past…

“Oh… erm, my apologies.”
“Don’t sweat it. Sorry for askin’ somethin’ weird. I’ll be off. Ha-ha-ha, keep at it~.”
“Y-Yes, I will…”

After leaving him with those teasing words, I went back to my apartment where Rir was waiting.

“Rir, I’m done with my errands. Should we go somewhere?”
“Woof. Let’s.”

She came to me with her tail wagging happily.
So cute.

This time, I tried holding out my hand to her.

“Woof?”
“Look, don’t you want to hold hands again?”
“Awoo~!!”

Rir strongly gripped my hand. She looked overjoyed.

…I wonder, does being with me make her happy? From how it looks, it does. Like Kanata and Sakura, guess there’s happiness simply in being together.

So, how is it for me? Right, let’s just suppose… we go to the castle, and they hurt Rir, what would I do?

“Woof? Suu, is something wrong? You’re making a grave face.”
“Hm…? Ah, it’s nothin’. Was just thinkin’ a bit,” I said while patting her head.
“Woof~. Shuu, I love you.”
“Right… me too.”
“Eh-heh-heh-heh.”

We spent the rest of the day going on an enjoyable date.

TL notes:
Things move along and there’s now a day set for Shuu’s encounter with the king. As the guild master mentioned (and as we’ve seen with Alim and Mika back in chapter 123), nothing big should happen, since it’s pretty much a formality. But knowing Loukis, this is probably wishful thinking, especially if he learns in advance that Shuu is another Sage.
