“Hahahahaha.” I laughed.
“What’s wrong with you all of a sudden?”

Lullus looked at me as if she were embarrassed by me. Since I hadn’t explained, I’m sure she believed I was just some crazed Demigod who started laughing out of nowhere, but I couldn’t help myself.

“You saw the Knight Captain standing there when he opened the door earlier, right?”
“I certainly did. But he suddenly started screaming and then passed out, so I had no other choice but to throw him out in the hallway. Did you put him in an illusion, Master Finis?”
“I sure did. I cast Superior Witchcraft on him.”
“That’s the first I’ve heard of this. Is it a skill?”
“One of the many I have. It belongs to one of the heroes, so I doubt you’d normally find it in this world.”

When it came to skills, I had always relied on the ones integrated with Spy and Demigod Sense just because of how useful they were. So I hadn’t touched any other skills. If anything, even my skill with the bow probably derived from “Weapon Proficiency” more than anything else.

I’d usually have to chant when casting skills, but due to having the Remove Incantation skill, I’d completely forgotten about it.

While keeping my abilities hidden until now might have been good, there was also something for me to gain from learning to use them more efficiently from now on.

“I showed the Knight Captain a dream in which he believed he’d killed me, but then I came back to life and ate him alive1. That’s why I burst out laughing like that.”
“So you blurred his perception of reality and illusion.”
“He did run away in fear, so we can consider it a success. Besides, with this, he’ll likely be on edge every time he sees me.”
“So that’s why you didn’t kill him.”

(That confirms it. Lullus can be quite extreme at times.)

I’d chosen a non-lethal option because it was the least destructive one, but that was only because we were dealing with a single person. Even though he was the one who initiated first, killing him here would have annoyed the king, so I’d chosen a more indirect approach.

It wasn’t because I wanted to try out my skills.

“If I kill him now, the king will be annoyed. He might even accuse me of killing the Knight Captain.”

After all, I’d gotten the impression that the king here was even prouder than Fraus’ princess. I couldn’t say whether he was a competent ruler or not, but it was likely that he had grown arrogant from sitting on the throne for so long.

In any case, it wasn’t right of me to accuse him right now. If I met him before dying, I likely would’ve had to kneel before him.

“That’s right. Lullus, it might be better if you ditch your human form while we’re in this kingdom.”
“Am I being a hindrance to you?”
“No. But there might be people who come after you.”

Lullus would make an ideal hostage, especially against me. If she were captured, I didn’t have any intention of proactively helping her. And besides, I didn’t think the Elves were capable of even capturing Lullus. Still, when it came to capturing spirits, the Elves would likely have the best chance due to their expansive knowledge accumulated throughout their long lives. Someone among them might know of methods or cages that could restrain spirits.

And even if they didn’t manage to capture her, just having her targeted could bring about unwanted trouble.

“If Master Finis says so, then so be it. I don’t intend to cause complications by sparking unnecessary conflicts.” Lullus replied, transforming back into her ball-of-light form.

“Speaking of which, someone’s approaching again. Should I send them away?”
“I doubt it’s the Knight Captain again, so it wouldn’t hurt to hear what they have to say.”

Just as I said that, I heard a knock on the door. The door then began to open before I could even respond. A strikingly beautiful elf man entered, accompanied by someone else. He looked to be around twenty years old, so I imagined he was still young for an elf. His expression was grumpy as he muttered, “Why did I have to come here?”

“Are you the so-called Finis?” he asked.
“The one and only. And who might you be?”
“You must be a country bumpkin if you don’t know who I am.”
“It was just recently that I came to the kingdom. If I were to ask you the name of the third prince of the Fraus Kingdom, would you be able to answer?”

I asked, while not knowing it myself. In the end, I only remembered Topersion’s name. I wasn’t even sure if there was a third prince. But that didn’t matter, as the elf before me didn’t seem to know either. He just stared at me with a look of pure disdain.

“So what if I don’t know it?! When it comes to other kingdoms, it’s enough to know the name of the king and the crown prince.”
“You say that, so you must be the crown prince?” I asked.
“I-I’m… the sixth prince. Do you have a problem with that2?”
“No. None at all.”

I’d heard that Elves had a problem with bearing children, but I guess it was natural for the royal family to have more children. I didn’t know how succession worked in this kingdom, but it seemed reasonable for there to be a few royal children. More children meant a higher chance of rivalry for the throne, though.

“So, what does the sixth prince want with me?”
“Is it wrong for me to meet with the woman who might become my wife3?”
“So that’s what this is about.”
“Yes. But I don’t intend to make you my wife right now4.”
“Oh, my, is that so?”

(I don’t want to marry either. Besides, how did marriage come up?)

Although he said he didn’t want to marry me, this was not something that he could decide for himself.

I expected they might try to use me by aligning me with some noble, but I hadn’t imagined that they would send someone this troublesome. Come what may, the marriage was unlikely to happen unless I proved myself, and I could also decline from the outset. However, it could also be useful to be regarded as Viridis royalty. It could be useful for border crossings and diplomatic relations, but the responsibilities that would come with it were hardly appealing.

It just seemed like a position that would bring about a ton of problems.
