“Thank you so much for inviting me today, Demon Lord Crim.”
“Hah, the audacity to speak thus, when ’twas thy very idea thrust into mine hands.”
The clear sarcasm in Sorleon’s voice ticked off Crim, who turned to glare at him.
It was time again for their weekly meeting as Demon Lords. Usually they would gather in Castle Norvadis, the headquarters of Nord Glacier. But Sorleon had insisted on doing it in Castle Seyfert instead, as Lua Cheia had recently obtained it, and everyone else agreed with the idea.
Why do I feel like all I’ve been doing lately is host tea parties…
Crim began to feel that way as Rouge prepared a fragrant herbal tea, following Adonis’ instructions, but then Crim’s thoughts were interrupted as the final guest arrived.
“Oh man, this place really has changed. I almost didn’t recognize it from how pretty the garden is.”
“I know. I have a really good gardener.”
Hearing that comment from the Blue Demon Lord Shao, Crim replied full of pride. Then again, she had every right to feel that way, as said gardener was a specialist amongst specialists, a druid.
She was extremely knowledgeable with plants and trees, had a great sense of floral aesthetics, making her a highly specced NPC for someone that came bundled with the castle.
“I see you’re here already, Sorleon. It’s been some time, and sorry I kept you all waiting.
“You really did. Just what were you doing all that time?”
“I mean, hear me out. Unlike you two, I’m actually on the forefront of my guild actively managing things. I had to make sure everything was in order before I could come here.”
He shrugged as he talked back with an air of irony, but Crim and Sorleon swallowed their words and could not talk back, since Crim had just been leisurely passing time in her castle, while Sorleon had barely been online, spending most of his time busy with various engagements in real life.
Both guilds, Lua Cheia and Nord Glacier had been absent from exploring the dungeon. Most players seemed to appreciate that, as that meant they had a better chance at finding superior loot instead of having to pick from the leftovers of bigger guilds. But it also increased the load on the guilds that wanted to continue exploring forward, like Lan Canglong.
Shao’s slightly accusatory voice created some turbulence amongst them, but there were other guests there.
“Ah, you must be Rouge!”
“Huh? Ah…y-yes…”
Mei, Shao’s younger sister, quickly went to greet Rouge with a kind smile, which quickly changed the tone of the meeting.
“I’m Mei! I also helped when fighting to rescue you, but I hope we can get along!”
“Ah… Nice…nice to meet you…”
Rouge nervously shook Mei’s hand, not used to social interaction, but Mei did not show any concern about that, continuing to find random things to talk about, and soon, Rouge’s apprehension was gone and she also started smiling.
Crim watched that in astonishment, surprised by how quickly Mei had gained Rouge’s trust.
“…Thy sister is most remarkable.”
“Well, she’s always been a social butterfly, somehow she always finds a way to get along with anyone.”
Shao shrugged and shook his head a bit, sighing, and Crim grimaced a little seeing how he did not seem to like praising his sister.
Crim felt like she was starting to understand that Demon Lord a bit better through the people around him, even though at first sight he seemed to be a scheming devil. While he had a mischievous nature, he was surprisingly fond of his friends and a good person. He just liked to sow chaos from time to time.
Or maybe his usual attitude of doing his own thing unless bound by an agreement was more of an outwardly act, something he felt necessary to be a good leader for his guild, which always had its doors open to new members, unlike Lua Cheia which was a small guild of friends who played for fun, or Nord Glacier that was composed of a small number of elite players.
“…Why are you staring at me like that?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
Crim had been looking at him while thinking of all that, which seemed to bother Shao as he glared back at her.
◇◇◇
With that, their meeting started officially.
“…I still cannot fathom why all of ye dost insist on bringing thy own servers to these gatherings…”
Sorleon had come with his personal maid that everyone had met before, Lety, her silver hair with purple accents neatly trimmed above her shoulders.
She was wearing a classical maid uniform with a long skirt, which she donned to perfection as she meticulously took care of all of Sorleon’s needs, which impressed even Adonis, whose main job was being a maid.
The maid uniforms used on Lua Cheia’s side were also similar in design, focusing on looking neat and refined, except that they had added frills and lace so they would look cuter. Especially the one worn by Rouge.
Then Lan Canglong’s Shao had brought his sister Mei, who wore a completely different type of clothes, which looked more like those worn by palace attendants in ancient China, including a colorful shawl.
Seeing all of them gathered highlighted those differences, like the signature of each guild. Crim thought about all of that absentmindedly for a while.
“…Ahem…”
“Hey, anyone home up there, Scarlet?”
Shao grunted in annoyance, and then Sorleon also called to her, making her quickly snap back to reality and pay attention to the meeting.
“Again, we’re talking about the event dungeon. We’re planning on properly tackling the next floor the day after tomorrow. After you rallied everyone together, a large group has remained that wants to stick together and reach the end together.”
“I see… In that case I’ll pull my guild together as soon as possible and join the rest of you guys.”
“I’ll have to consult the availability of the rest of my members, but we’ll attempt to help as well.”
The three agreed to that, and then moved on to discuss smaller topics, and their meeting came to a close.
