Having activated the Transport Plaza in Galardia Bridge, Crim and the rest returned to their home in Castle Seyfert.
It was already late at night in-game, but in the real world, it was slightly past sunset. Everyone began to log out, and only Crim stayed in the castle for a while longer, after telling Lycoris and Freya not to worry about her.
“Hahh…this has to be one of the worst days in my life.”
The fatigue from running through kilometers of undead dens, coupled with all her shouting to undo the two misunderstandings during the stream, was making itself evident, weighing her down.
But at least there were fun moments too, and reminding herself of that, she went to sit down on a couch in the castle’s living room, trying to relax for a bit.
…Why do I feel so oddly exhausted?
The feeling was familiar, somehow reminding her of the time right after Belial kidnapped Rouge the first time they met in R’lyeh. But she could not really put her finger on what it was.
“Welcome back, Sister. Umm…”
Shortly after, she heard the door being open, followed by Rouge’s timid voice.
That prompted Crim to open her eyes and look that way, seeing Rouge in a small maid outfit, her unsteady hands placing a cup of tea as carefully as possible on the table.
“Did you prepare that, Rouge?”
“Mhm, Adonis had to walk me through everything though.”
Rouge replied while nervously watching Crim reach out to the cup.
Her bumbling nature was always a sight to behold, but Crim did not let that distract her as she took a sip from the tea. It was slightly sweet with a nice amount of acidity, likely from some lemon Rouge had added, wanting to ease Crim’s exhaustion, and Crim really appreciated that sentiment.
“Mm… ’tis good. I already feel somewhat more alive. Thou didst well, my thanks to thee.”
Crim thanked her, making Rouge break into a smile, which only lasted a few seconds before it clouded over.
“Are you really tired, Sister?”
“Aye, Rouge, to a certain extent… but the moment I beheld thy face, it all vanished like the wind.”
“Really?!”
This time, Rouge’s smile remained for much longer, and Crim really did feel like she was reinvigorated, so she tapped the spot next to her on the couch, inviting Rouge to sit as well.
Rouge was more than happy to go sit there, leaning her body against Crim, something that also made Crim feel better. They spent a while like that in silence, with Crim continuing to sip her tea, until more visitors entered the living room.
“Oh my, I’m almost envious of what I’m seeing, heheh.”
“Welcome home, Master.”
This time it was Lulu, with Cluh riding on her head, and Da’at Seyfert who arrived.
Both of them were carrying some thick books, likely textbooks, so it was easy to guess that they had finished teaching the children and had been studying together for a while after that.
“Greetings, Da’at. I arrived but a short while ago. ’Tis been some time since last I laid eyes upon Lulu and Cluh as well. How fare things? Art thou enjoying thy freedom?”
“Yes, I feel like the last few days have been quite rewarding for me.”
Lulu replied with a firm nod and a smile that seemed to say she was enjoying every second of her life now.
“…Sometimes I feel like I’m dreaming, my life is so wonderful now… I really can’t thank you and the Gamers enough for rescuing me that time.”
Saying that, Lulu clasped her hands together like she was praying. Meanwhile, Cluh looked too embarrassed to show he felt the same way, instead crossing his arms(?) and turning his face away in a pout.
The children also seemed to have taken a liking to that strange octopus thing, as Crim had sometimes watched from the window how he together with Rouge and the two Doppelgangers would play with the town’s children. He was surprisingly lenient with children, for an evil god.
“That’s good to hear.”
In the end, all of the NPCs Crim had come along were saved in their own way, proving that her decisions had been the right ones, and giving her some respite.
…That summer that felt longer than most, was finally coming to an end in two days.
Crim did not detest school by any means, but once the second school term started, she would not be able to come visit her friends here as often, making her feel slightly desolate, and she continued sipping her tea, wanting to enjoy it for as long as possible…
