Many decades had passed since the last living person passed through the bridge, leaving it as a secluded location where only the undead remained. But that peace had been destroyed now, as a Demon Lord rushed through, leaving a glowing crimson trail while sowing destruction through the ancient ruins.

Crim used the bridge struts and old buildings as footholds to jump around, utilizing all three dimensions to cut down the zombies, producing weapons that easily tore apart their cold bodies.

She had turned into a tornado of red and black that shredded anything it came into contact with. In a way, that proved Crim’s words were right. Violence was the solution for everything.

Comment: She’s crazy…

Comment: She’s unburdened from the shackles of sanity…

Comment: Is she attacking enemies by reflex now?

Comment: By now she’s a mindless killing machine…

Even the viewers were astonished. The only one who felt truly uneasy was Setsuna, the memory of her fight with Crim the previous day still fresh in her mind.

“…Did I really try fighting that?”
“Yup… Usually, she’s not this aggressive though.”

As they followed after Crim, Setsuna threw an incendiary paper tag at a spectre that tried flanking them, while Frey flung fireballs at a group of Zombies that were trying to sneak up on Crim.

“By the way! I think these zombies are acting a bit different now!”
“I know. Their formations are more cohesive now. Maybe they have some sort of commander nearby?”

The two began to wonder about that.

“Hinagiku, prez, you two are faster than us, so go support Crim!”
“Right away!”
“Okay Frey, we’ll go!”
“Freya, Lycoris, use your most economic anti-undead magic and bullets to shoot down whatever enemy gets in our way so we can follow them too! Setsuna, you’ll watch our rear!”

Following Frey’s command, the two faster ones sped up, Hinagiku clad in her special blue fire that cleansed the undead, and Kasumi relying on brute force to demolish the enemies trying to wrap around Crim.

Crim had continued running forward, laughing uncontrollably while going on a frenzy, pushing further into the undead army where new types of enemies, like ghosts, had begun to appear.

But obviously enough, being so deep in enemy territory meant that she would be fully surrounded by them soon. That was why Frey had sent Kasumi and Hinagiku to run ahead to help her, even if they had to fight their way in as well.

That left their formation resembling a triangle of sorts, with Crim in tip, and the rest dragged behind covering a larger area.

Time turned into a blur as they ran through the long bridge.

After hundreds, even thousands of enemy encounters and piles upon piles of rubble and destruction, they finally reached a more open area, with the citadel just a bit further on.

“Foolish beings… Leave while you can, this is a resting place for the dead…”
“Then shut up and sleep foreverrr!!”
“Wait, wha..?!”

That was clearly a miniboss, an enormous skeleton clad in an elaborate magician’s robe, wielding a staff adorned with large gemstones. In short, a lich. It stood imposingly before Crim, attempting to speak in a haughty voice.

But Crim had no intention of listening. She charged forward without hesitation, leapt into the air, spun, and launched a powerful kick straight into the boss’ face.

“Ghuh..?! Don’t talk over people when they’re trying to say something!!”
“…Hm?”

Considering Crim’s weight, speed, and spinning momentum, that kick was powerful enough to make the lich stagger and take a few steps back.

He tried to shout at Crim in protest, but she just looked at him with stone cold eyes, almost like she was staring down at a cockroach scurrying along the kitchen. Then her scythe began to glow in an ominous way.

Comment: She’s already going all out lmao

Comment: The fight hasn’t even started and she’s using her ultimate lol

Comment: why is it so funny when she’s so merciless lol

Comment: A ultimate can actually fix anything huh

The viewers were also going wild. The lich seemed confused, not sure what was happening as the scythe’s appearance seemed to scream danger. And Crim spoke with a gelid voice.

“But why…you don’t even count as people.”

Around ten minutes later, a notification was sent out reading [Area Boss Undead Spellmaster Alberich has been defeated], as well as an announcement that four months after the game’s release date, the Garland Citadel area had finally become accessible.

◇◇◇

“I almost feel bad…”

Seeing the lich fall down before he could finish talking, Frey felt like he had a revelation about the fleeting nature of all things in life, and he looked up to the clear sky and muttered that.

Comment: oh look, now he’s acting like he wasn’t the one who caused this to happen

Comment: it’s all your fault!

Comment: You forced Crim to come here against her wishes

Comment: That’s why he’s the four eyed brute…

Frey ignored the viewers, who had started insulting him to no end, and he joined the rest, stepping forth into the square of sorts in front of Garland Citadel’s northern gate.

That place was clear of enemies and rubble, looking almost comforting after the endless hordes of undead they had faced.

“This is the first checkpoint…I guess?”

There was a Transport Plaza in the open area ahead, which if activated would allow them to take a break and then come back where they left, something really handy considering how long it took to get there.

“Hey Crim, you did most of the heavy lifting getting here, so do the honors.”

Frey turned around, trying to get Crim to activate it, but…

“Waaaahhhh it was so scaryyyy!!!”
“There there, you’re safe now. You can stop worrying, okay?”

…Crim had finally regained consciousness, snapping out of the berserk frenzy from before. And instead of rejoicing for being the first players in that new area, she had shrunk in size and was clinging to Freya while bawling her eyes out.

Frey watched the pair from a distance, and after a moment of thinking, he muttered something.

“…It’d be fun to organize a haunted house for the school festival.”

Comment: Give her a break already!

Comment: Do you even have a soul lol

Comment: Goddammit four-eyed brute!

…Overall, the viewers were as talkative as always…

Afterword:

A moment of silence for the boss… Also, taking over the whole citadel in one go doesn’t feel quite right, so this is it for now.
