Because Kana fell ill, Eru’s birthday banquet was postponed.
However, as the successor of the Chitanda family by default, Eru have received special treatment. Numerous elders of the Chitanda family had agreed to rent a new banquet location. It is just that the location has been moved from Nagoya to Tokyo. This grandiose celebration can’t be missed by Kana, who then behaved. She also approved the celebration very much.
Actually, if you consider it from various points of view, this birthday banquet was merely a pretext.
Tokyo Sakura Hotel has been rented by Eru and Kana’s uncle, Chitanda Tanisuke. Famous figures from the political and business sphere have gathered here to attend the birthday party. With a glass of wine in hand, they formed many small 2-3 persons groups amongst themselves, discussing things related to their own interest, and celebrating Eru’s birthday as a side activity. Her birthday party was like a pearl necklace. What’s important is the pearl, not the string that tie them together.
Kana obviously dislike the crowds, so she carried a glass of juice and hid in a corner, meekly spectating. Meanwhile, her uncle wore a swallow-tailed coat, carrying wine, bringing a female companion with him. He was enjoying himself, talking and laughing amidst the crowd elegantly.
A Chinese proverb once said, “Wealth don’t last beyond three generations. It can only be preserved through constant effort.”
According to Kana’s understanding, Chitanda family’s windfall was during the Korean War. In order to supply their soldiers in the Korea Peninsula, America made Japan their transport hub. Kana’s great grandfather was a rice merchant, and he took this opportunity to get rich. He then used the money to buy quite an amount of land in Kamiyama City. When the era turned and land price rose sharply, the Chitanda family naturally became a local strong family.
Since Kana’s great grandfather’s generation, Chitanda Yukihiko was then the third generation’s head of the family. The family had retained its wealth by three generations.
The woman beside uncle Tanisuke, who seemingly noticed Kana who was sitting alone, jabbed at the man’s arm and whispered a few words into his ears. The man glanced at Kana’s direction, toasted with his group, said something, and then trotted to Kana’s side.
“Kana, why don’t you go greet everyone else?” Tanisuke sat beside her, smiling.
Kana’s lip twitched. If she could deal with this big of a crowd, then she wouldn’t have to lock herself in the house for seventeen years.
“Uncle, last time you visited us, this auntie wasn’t here,” Kana glanced at the woman beside him.
Kana saw embarrassment popped up on her face abruptly.
Her father and Tanisuke were brothers from the same father, but from different mothers. However, unlike the work-oriented Yukihiko, Tanisuke was a loafer who changed girlfriend more often than he change his underwear. Tanisuke was managing a horse racing track and wasn’t concerned about the business. Despite his racing track were in the red for a whole year, the only reason he opened a race track was to look attractive to girls.
Even in the face of Kana’s bluntness, his expression remain unchanging. He smiled and introduced the woman, “Matsushima-san isn’t my girlfriend. She is Chitanda’s business regional director for the Kanto region. One of your father’s best subordinate. If she wished to be my girlfriend, I would be honored.”
Kana looked astonished. She can’t help but starting to measure up Matsushima-san. She adorned lucid and elegant style, and she looked to be just a little older than 20 years old. If none the wiser, no one would doubt it if she introduced herself as a student. In Japan, for her being able to get become a regional manager at such a young age in a company where seniority take precedence is definitely not an easy matter.
“I’m Matsushita Yoshie. You can call me Yoshie. Can I call you Kana-chan?”
Yoshie-san extended her hand to Kana, smiling sweetly. That smile would make anyone fall for her, but it got nothing on Kana, a mentally ill patient.
Kana not only ignored the hand offered, but pulled both of her hands back, resting them on the sofa.
There’s an awkward silence.
“Kana, why are you here?” Yukihiko appearance brought relief to the people in middle of the awkward silence, “Where’s your little sister?”
“Wearing makeup,” Kana curtly answered.
Being the star of the banquet, her makeup also has be up for the occasion. A girl making up is a tremendous undertaking. It will be an hour soon, but unexpectedly, she still hasn’t come out of the backroom.
“Go tell her to hurry up. Grandfather and the others have been waiting,” Yukihiko told her.
Kana suddenly narrow her eyes, sending unclear message to him, making him endlessly nervous. In the end, Kana didn’t say anything, got off the sofa and headed towards the makeup room.
Yukihiko sighed a breath of relief, and said to his brother and Yoshie first thing, “Why were you two with her? What have you talked about?” he said unsatisfactory.
Tanisuke said, “We were only greeting her, there’s nothing wrong with it. Anyway, Matsushita-san have wanted to meet your daughters sooner or later.”
Yoshie giggled gently, giving a seat to Yukihiko.
After hearing his little brother’s excuse, Yukihiko painfully smiled and said, “Then must have you looked for Kana? You must not have known that it is much harder to get along with the girl compared to Eru.”
Tanisuke shrugged, “We just found out.”
“It’s okay. I’m confident that we have gone along well with Kana-chan,” Yoshie said very confidently.
Yukihiko waved his hands, “No, that’s not what I’m saying…”
Kana had written Ako a detailed project book for inner Kamigaito Mountain Range development. After he had taken a look at the plan, he unexpectedly felt a sense of inferiority. In the book, Kana has detailed operational directions, land planning, funding source channels, and more. All facets of the project have been thought through. This plan couldn’t have been made by a layman, but he also couldn’t figure out where Kana has gained the experience. He could only say that, they were likely in the presence of a prodigy.
“Eru, why haven’t you come out?”
“Aah… I’m coming.”
Kana hollered while walking into the room. There was only Eru in the room. Kana stared wide open at Eru in a heartbeat. Eru was wearing a violet strapless dress. Gorgeous, yet doesn’t feint maturity. Snow-white skin were exposed from the chest up, unexpectedly attracting people.
“Sis, don’t stare at me too much,” Eru embarrassingly cover her pit of the stomach, and her skin also turned red.
“Eru, you are beautiful, I want to kiss you,” Kana immediately hugged her, their faces came very close.
Eru was red up to her ear and pushed her, “what were you about to do!”
Kana glupped her saliva, “Collarbone.”
“No!,” Eru firmly refused to service this perverted request.
Kana hang down her head from the dejection, “Eru hates me now.”
“I can’t hate you.”
“Everyone is hailing Eru, and now even Eru hate me.1”
“Sis…”
“If everyone hates me, someone like me may be better off not exist anymore…”
Kana looked melancholy, tears glistening in her eyes, and it started streaming down.
“Okay, okay!” Eru as if giving up as usual, “Then just, just a little…”
