- In Front of the Training Area – 17:27
“Ha, ha, ha! Won’t it be hard to keep them all safe? Huh? What are you going to do? All these kids are about to die! See? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!”
Doug laughed as he waved his right hand, as if giving a signal.
Susie stepped forward with a sharp motion. “Bibi, Irvine, please wait a bit. I’ll treat you soon.” As she spoke, Susie helped Irvine to his feet and walked past Beatrice, who had been supporting him. Argernon chuckled as he watched from next to Beatrice.
“Su?” Beatrice stared wide-eyed at Susie’s back.
“What’s wrong, Bibi?” Despite the intense pain in his arm, Irvine asked Beatrice, noticing that she had suddenly stopped moving.
“She’s pissed.”
All of the shadow dogs that had latched onto the front three children began running toward Susie, except for one.
The last of the shadow dogs, as if following some kind of command, bared its fangs without hesitation and lunged at Helena’s neck while she lay motionless on the ground.
“Agh!”
“No! That mutt! Stop it! Damn it!”
Helena moaned uncontrollably from the sharp pain piercing her neck. Dana tried to run after the shadow dog that had attacked Helena, but the wound on her calf stopped her. She collapsed to her knees, unable to move forward.
With Helena’s neck still in its jaws, the shadow dog began to run, joining the tail end of the others ahead of it. At that moment, Susie narrowed her eyes and glanced over at the shadow dog, whose mouth was curved upward in a smile.
“Look at that. It’s trying to use a hostage.”
Susie tilted her head slightly, shot a cold look at the shadow dog, lifted her chin, and stepped forward. In a moment, her body shook. Susie’s skirt fluttered in the air. Then, the very next moment, a sword suddenly appeared before the mouth of the shadow dog carrying Helena.
A white-silver sword blade extended from the left side of the shadow dog’s face.
On the opposite side, Susie’s left hand gripped the hilt of her sword. With a sweeping motion of her arm, Susie sliced through the shadow dog as if cutting a piece of candy. The creature’s upper jaw and head were cleanly severed from its body. The remainder of the shadow dog, now missing half of its head, collapsed slowly to the ground. Susie caught Helena’s body gently with her right hand to keep her from falling and carefully pulled her away from the shadow dog’s remains.
“Big Sis Susie?”
“Helena… You did great. You’re amazing.”
“B-Big sis, I-I…”
“I know. It’s fine. I’ll heal you right up.”
The five shadow dogs that had been running toward Susie suddenly lost track of her. They began sniffing the ground, searching for her scent. Moments later, they realized that their target was standing behind them and once again charged toward Susie.

“Big sis…. What is this?”
Helena felt warmth spreading from the depths of her body. Slowly, her wounds began to close, and her strength returned. She checked her body in disbelief.
Around her, the other children also recovered and began rising to their feet. Dana, Lombard, Carl, Irvine, Corin, Mia, and Mary. Alan, Belknap, and Stephan. Even the children were standing in the ruins of the training area. Only Fiorina and William, who had been drained of blood, remained motionless.
“Huh? What? I can move my arm!”
“I-Irvine? That’s amazing!”
Beatrice stared in surprise. Irvine’s arm, which had been gnawed down to the bone by the shadow dog’s repeated bites, had healed completely.
“What? It doesn’t hurt! Why?”
“Mia?! I can’t believe this…. Thank goodness, Mia! Oh! U-Um, Mia. I think you should cover using this.”
The black spear that had attacked Mia had slashed cleanly along her side, exposing bare skin beneath her torn clothing. Her ample chest was nearly spilling out through the shredded fabric. Blushing, Willie quickly removed his cape and gently draped it over Mia’s shoulders, trying to hide the redness in his cheeks.
“My leg! Amazing! Look at how well it’s moving!”
“I agree! It seems we got our strength back!”
Dana jumped in place, spun her spear, and slammed it into the nose of a nearby shadow dog. In the meantime, strength returned to Lombard, and he strengthened his grip on the tower shield.
“I can stand? I can walk! You’re amazing, Su! E-Everyone is okay!”
At Corin’s call, the twins, Clark and Ashton, who were being treated near the training area, along with Charles, Tomas, Leila, and Virgil, all raised their voices, confirming they were safe.
Outside the training area, Carl stood up and checked the places where he’d been wounded. Mary wiped the dried blood from her forehead. Though it had stopped bleeding, she was shocked to see the injuries were completely gone.
Beyond the stone wall, others also began to stir.
“What happened? Huh? Fiorina? Whoa! Even Will’s here! Hey, Belknap! Can you move?”
“I can! What about you, Alan?”
“I’m as fit as a fiddle! Stephan! Can you move?!”
“I sure can!”
“Good! I don’t know what’s going on, but it looks like the enemy is just standing around! Everyone! Belknap and I will go pull out Will! Stephan, you take care of Fiorina! We’re getting out of here!”
Belknap and Stephan nodded, then dragged Fiorina and William, both still unconscious, away from the scene.
“Let me just cast this, too.”
Susie then drew the two swords hanging at her waist and lifted her hands high above her head. Holding the swords overhead, she lowered her gaze and began to sway her body in a steady rhythm. And then, from her lips, came a soft sound…
“A song? Big Sis Susie, what are you…?”
Helena’s eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Susie. At that moment, the running shadow dogs leapt toward her. By the time Helena realized what was happening, their fangs were already inches from Susie. But in that very instant, the shadow dogs’ fangs sliced through empty air, and their bodies passed by without ever touching her. All five shadow dogs landed cleanly, not even grazing Susie.
Neither the shadow dogs nor Helena, who had been watching from up close, could comprehend what had just occurred. The shadow dogs lunged again. Yet, once more, none of them could lay a single fang on Susie.
Susie, seemingly unbothered by the situation, continued singing as she twirled and danced gracefully across the place. Then, the children began to hear something, sounds that weren’t just coming from Susie.
“Huh? Is this a guitar?”
“I can hear drums, too!”
“Isn’t that an organ?”
“There’s a flute too!”
“Isn’t that a harp?”
“A spirit band?”
Helena couldn’t help but say the words aloud, her eyes fixed on Susie once again.
Susie’s fiery red hair shimmered in the light of the setting sun, dancing with each movement as the golden rays bathed the horizon. A silvery-white sword cut cleanly through the glowing light. Bathed in the sun’s warm glow, Susie swayed, dancing softly, gracefully. The expression on her face, illuminated by the sunset, was so gentle, so serene, that Helena, seeing her up close, couldn’t help but think she looked like a goddess. Helena’s heart swelled with a burning emotion.
At the same time, she could feel her own body surging with power. Her senses sharpened beyond anything she had ever known. And in that moment, she saw a shadow dog kick off the ground, preparing to strike again. Without hesitation, Helena gripped a dagger in each hand and slid her body in a straight line between the shadow dog and Susie.
“Don’t you dare disturb big sis, you damn mutt!”
