「What do you want to do during this vacation, Mia?」
「It depends on your plans, milady. I would love to be there wherever you two plan to go, however…」
「But going to somewhere far, including Central, would be difficult, right?」
「That’s right. I will only be a burden, after all. You two alone would be able to travel around faster, correct?」
Returning to our room, Ciel asked Mia about her break plans, and she gave an answer I partially expected.
In this world where no cars, trains, or planes exist, our travel speed is well out of the ordinary. Being able to ignore any and every obstacle by running in the sky already cuts travel time by a lot, but while I don’t know our exact speed, we’re also capable of moving faster than a speeding carriage.
Though I said we’re able to ignore every and any obstacle, there are still monsters in the sky, so it’s not completely safe; but since Cie is already mid-dance in this situation, we can easily deal with any approaching monsters without stopping.
I suspect the reason why there’s no flight sorcery―or at least none in common knowledge―is probably because battling with monsters in the sky would be too risky.
「In that case, I suppose it’s alright for us to not return.」
「Well, it might be better if you do. No, it would be preferable if you do. Mistress Fiiyanamia must be worried, after all.」
Ciel casually muttered to herself, to which Mia answered in a rush.
Her hurried response had Ciel dumbfounded, and she tilted her head in confusion.
「Fii probably wouldn’t be that concerned. Right, Ain?」
『For Mother Fii, three years in the academy would just be like a blink of an eye, so I don’t think she’ll be especially worried.』
As I answered, Ciel then repeated, 「Right?」 with a cheer, resulting in Mia responding, 「That’s right,」 with a defeated tone.
「That certainly might be the case for Mistress Fiiyanamia, but it likely won’t be the case for Mohsa and Saueluna, you see.」
「That does sound possible. In that case, shall we return home? What do you think, Ain?」
I pondered Ciel’s question. If we only consider efficient use of time, then it should be fine to stay at Ausente instead of returning. It’s not like we’ll remain here forever, and it might be nice to visit different places within Ausente during our academic stay. However, that’s the mindset of someone without a place to call home, and Ciel has probably yet to internalize that she has somewhere we can return to. So even if it takes up our time, I think it’s best to return to Central to make her recognize it as a place to return to―a place we’d want to return to.
Besides, Mia might get flack from Mohsa and Luna if we don’t go home. Luna adores Ciel, after all, and if it’s not conceit clouding my judgment, Mohsa likes me as well.
Also, us simply being at the manor is probably very stimulating to the manor servants. I guess we should stay even for just a few days. It’s not like we have any major reason to remain here, either.
『Let’s find the time to return home.』
「Let’s. Alright, then we’ll be returning to the manor sometime.」
「Understood.」
Mia gracefully bowed, but she had a visible expression of relief.
◇
『Come to think of it, why did Mia bring up Fii’s name first?』
『She likely didn’t want our decision to be influenced by Mohsa and Luna. After all, they’re servants and we’re their ladies.』
『So troublesome.』
『Agreed.』
「Seeing you two chat in silence is always so intriguing.」
「You can tell when we’re talking?」
「Vaguely. I can probably do the same thing, but there’s no point doing so.」
「You’re everyone, after all.」
While the long vacation has started, we’re not going back to Central immediately. After all, we still have the promise with Palra, so we’ll return after finishing that at least.
We could do hunter work to pass time, but we decided to do something we can only do in Ausente and visited Munyechka.
I wondered where she’d be during the vacation period, but she was at the Puppet Sorcery classroom as usual, so it was an easy find. How do I say it? When I realized that she was in the Puppet Sorcery classroom just as I imagined she’d be, I couldn’t help but chuckle. Ciel was a bit confused about my reaction, though.
「So you want an indestructible doll, yes?」
「I would just be convenient to have one.」
「A normal doll would be damaged when hit hard, after all. You should already know that this low durability is why puppet sorcery is not given much attention. Even when made with sturdy materials, a golem formed from the same materials would have better durability. Having a human-like form, dolls inevitably have more delicate weak points than golems. Golems are relatively easy to repair when damaged, but that’s not the case for dolls.
In the first place, I don’t even know if there’s anything indestructible in this world.」
「Being indestructible is the ideal, but being sturdy enough to endure a low-ranked hunter’s attacks would be enough.」
「Again, that’ll depend on the materials.」
After she gave a logically obvious response, I retrieved an assortment of materials from the magic pouch only used for storage.
As various presumed S-rank monster materials spilled out, Munyechka didn’t show even a glimpse of surprise.
「Just as expected.」
「If you use these materials, you can make a durable doll, right?」
「I can. Or rather, I already have. I was experimenting with how durable a doll I could make using the materials you gave me the other day, you see.」
「Then how durable were you able to make it?」
「As long as the joints aren’t targeted, it can take around A-rank. If targeted, even C-rank attacks can destroy it.」
「That’s durable enough.」
Even with abundant use of S-rank material, the joints ended up being fragile compared to the other parts. Perhaps it’s just the universal characteristic of Puppet Sorcery regardless of material used.
And that ends this update! Mia is out there doing her best to look out for her senior maids, lol. Fiiyanamia was the worst choice of example for ‘folks at home getting worried,’ the lady has all the time in the world.
We also had the appearance of Munyechka, working on her passion projects as usual. It is cute that Ain chuckled because her first impression of Munyechka being the type to live in her laboratory or club room ended up being correct, which was a long time ago, lol. Also, Munyechka is already desensitized with our girls’ just having random high-rank monster materials, lol.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
